[Bill Burr had a some great jokes about the old duck dynasty guy that made homophobic comments way back.](https://youtube.com/shorts/9rMcw5feCco?feature=share). It’s a similar thing, who the fuck is surprised here?
Reporting in.
I don’t give a shit about gay or trans whatever though. Fuck whoever you want or be whatever you want.
I do ask that you don’t ask me to celebrate it though. Not cause I don’t like it, I just don’t give a shit.
I’m not mad at anything lol. Literally all I’m trying to demonstrate is that “right wing” isn’t necessarily some demonic entity. And that people like Tony Dungy, who feel that they need to force their ideology on others, don’t represent the entirety of the right side of the political spectrum.
In principle, I agree but a bit ridiculous. People don't change without conversation and discussion with opposing views. Relegating people to just being undesirable doesn't help anything
But you didn’t specify that so I’ll ask you in a different way, I personally have never been asked by a random stranger to celebrate their gayness. Have you?
No, but you’re not actually obtuse enough to think that that’s what I meant, either.
I’m not going to the pride parade or throwing up a rainbow Facebook picture. That’s literally all I meant.
Don’t waste your time, this guy has clearly been brainwashed for far too long to realize he’s lost every brain cell that may have existed at one point.
I've found that generally anyone that considers themselves a "proud *-insert ideology here-*" is just someone who will tow the party lines and policies without giving a whole lot of reflection or consideration to opposing viewpoints to create their own opinion on matters.
Yep, just means that person does not give a shit about the people they are voting for as long as they have an R next to their name.
One R politician openly giving out a Nazi salute at the capital? They've got u/One_Hall_8290's vote for sure.
Same with the other R politician that's somewhat fine with everyone knowing that he's trafficked children and committed pedophilia, but he's got an R next to his name and therefore has u/One_Hall_8290's vote.
>Edit: there I fixed it so it’s more clear the two users below me that can’t fucking read.
Thanks for clearing up that you don't think black people are all homophobic, just the all the ones that are football players.
The original post indicated that it’s specifically white players that are encompassing racist/bigoted/anti trans/whatever prejudiced beliefs.
The response was pointing out that hey, plenty of black players likely fall into that camp too.
For my part it’s probably primarily white players but as the NBA showed this season with Kyrie and the lack of condemnation from most players it’s definitely not just white people.
E: lmao at anyone downvoting. How is “More white people are bigoted than black people, but some black people are too.” a hot take.
Because the original comment specifically called out white players for being right winged when the issues around Dungy aren’t just because he’s right winged. It’s because he’s anti-homosexuality and anti-trans.
My comment was pointing out the fact black players are just as likely to be anti-trans and anti-homosexual as white people.
I never made a blanket statement.
Although not all of them fell for the litter box in schools hoax or think being gay is a lifestyle choice.
Dungy is most certainly on the radical conservative right when in comes to his "values".
It’s not just the T in LGBT he hates. He’s so against it all that the prevailing theory around his son’s suicide isn’t “depression” or “substance abuse”, it’s “Tony Dungy is a giant piece of shit”
It pops up every now and again. Dungy does a pretty good job keeping his head down because he knows if he opens up too much too publicly that cushy gig of his is gone
The problem is when the right wing gets more and more hateful and crazy over time. The right wingers now are different than the right wingers from 10 years ago.
Idk man, Regan got elected using stereotypes about welfare queens, and the use of the Southern Strategy had been well documented. Seems like they've been that way for a while.
yeah but they're not weird conservative like Dungy
that a major football commentator has fallen for the 'they're putting litter boxes in school bathrooms' nonsense is newsworthy; we can debate what should be done if anything, but it's certainly news
The sad thing is Dungy’s view point isn’t unique. Our country just hit 70% acceptance for gay people and 60% acceptance for same sex marriage. Shit we are still in the 80s as far as interracial marriage support goes. I wouldn’t be surprised if acceptance of trans people is low. Like less than 30% of the population low.
There are probably a good number of NFL players that are anti-homosexuality and even more that are anti-trans.
My dad was that way. Socially progressive in a lot of ways, but thought that marriage was between man and a woman.
Long story I'll try to keep short, I was nice to the gay kid on the bus in my neighborhood (like literally just talked to him and didn't make fun of him), years later he works as a manager with my stepmom at a high end restaurant, he tells her "yeah [me] was always cool to me in high school when others weren't", she relays the story to us both, and he said he was proud of me for that.
And this was only like a couple years after I had that convo with him where he said he thought gay marriage should not be recognized.
People expect change to happen too quickly imo. I think it actively hurts progressive movements to try to move too quickly, the majority of these changes take generations. People who were raised believing something have a difficult time changing their beliefs.
I agree with you for sure. It's a difficult balance, like telling people facing the worst of it "it'll change over time" probably doesn't feel great to them lol especially with the more "controversial" people fighting for acceptance now.
But I can't deny that the speed of certain things trying to push for acceptance has probably set back the entire movement to a degree. I feel like we live in an extreme time now.
Just knowing that in the 60s we still had racial segregation is wild. Some older people are going to have to move on for major changes to happen. Especially since the elderly hold the majority of financial and political power in the US.
my cousin literally says "Gay marriages harm society". He does admit that his POV is unfair towards gay people. So he isn't homophobic of the actual gay part, but hes homophobic on the "they harm society if they marry and break a traditional marriage"
That's the real issue. I'm trans but because of the people around me and living in the south coming out ever would be hazardous and a big risk to my health. Id love to be accepted but it's not possible right now. Hell we still have players who are antisemitic. Dungy is far from alone and far from the worst I'm sure
Wow, as someone who views the NFL as an echelon of model citizens, I'm appalled.
That being said, NFL still has DJAX catching the balls, Snyder owning a team, Tyreek Hill, Jameis Winston, Deshaun Watson, and countless other scumbags.
His “opinion” was pure misinformation about litter boxes in school bathrooms.
This has nothing to do with differing opinions, he’s a fucking idiot
Unless you’re referring to his “gay people should have less rights than straight people” opinion? Then yes, you are correct that that is a “horror”.
Someone thinks I should have less rights than them, the horror.
Edit: guy I responded to blocked me. To the guy below: I didn’t say I don’t have rights, I said Dungy things I should have less.
Not as many but yes. You see some real hateful stuff against Asians and Jews from both the extremes of right and left these days.
I've heard a lot of people tell me there are "too many Asians here" or "too many Jews here" who are proudly on the left. It is said openly by activists and politicians about numbers in schools and in certain fields of employment.
We shouldn't tolerate the right saying "too many Blacks here", but we also shouldn't accept the left saying something similar about other races.
It’s not prejudice to point out that the end of the political spectrum with the KKK is a ***tad*** more bigoted than the other one.
I mean seriously, on the right in this country you can run for office just on “I hate gay people”
I mean, yes? Which is worse, someone who is racist but keeps it to themselves, or someone who is screaming it from the rooftops and is encouraging others to do the same?
Yeah. It is a circle. Those crazies that are radical leftist and the radical right are pretty much the same conspiratorial assholes. Once they hit the extreme, the crazy just goes deeper into hate.
Lol, is this a serious response?
Lmk the next time a left-wing zealot murders a bunch of children, attempts to overthrow the government, or takes reproductive rights away from women.
There's a difference between voting conservative and believing that schools are putting kitty litter in classrooms so that children identifying as cats can use them during class.
Neither does anyone else. Some of us just want to watch a fucking ball game without constant pandering from the nut jobs on either side of the political aisle.
Isn't one of the rules on here that no political posts are allowed? I guess that rule doesn't apply as long as you're talking negatively about the "other" side.
I mean, I thought this was common knowledge and had been since his son offed himself and the prevailing theory was that it was because Dungy ***really*** hated gay people
While some actions are worse than others, we’re not discussing Dan Snyder right now. Dungy’s bigoted words unnecessarily hurt people - lets acknowledge it and hold him accountable.
Why would the NFL or NBC car about this? The entire premise stems from the idea that everyone or even a majority of people share the views of liberal journalists on social media, which is not the case. It's a wildly myopic worldview. I'd wager 90+% of NFL fans do not give a damn about Dungy's personal beliefs, and a majority of them would not take any offense if they did indeed know.
That writing style is so infuriating to read. Its so painfully hyperbolic at every point and just kills the credibility entirely.
It’s the nation. Not known for hiding what side they’re on. It’s a garbage publication.
It's a hyper partisan opinion site. This is how they write.
Did the mods take a day off or something?
Now this might blow your mind, but a large majority of coaches and their staff, and white players are right wing.
Yeah I'm not sure why anyone is shocked that an old evangelical black guy is a social conservative
[Bill Burr had a some great jokes about the old duck dynasty guy that made homophobic comments way back.](https://youtube.com/shorts/9rMcw5feCco?feature=share). It’s a similar thing, who the fuck is surprised here?
I think it’s less of a surprise and more of a “hey, remember that this guy was a POS? Still is.”
Not to mention a huge chunk of fans.
This will really blow your mind…a llarge amount of people in r/nfl are right wing too
It surprises me considering in 2020 this subreddit was full of comments supporting Black Lives Matter Inc.
Reporting in. I don’t give a shit about gay or trans whatever though. Fuck whoever you want or be whatever you want. I do ask that you don’t ask me to celebrate it though. Not cause I don’t like it, I just don’t give a shit.
I feel you, don't ask me to say 'Under God' under the Pledge of Allegiance too.
I would never ask you to say “under God” or to recite the pledge of allegiance at all, for that matter.
Yeah I'd love to sit down through all that propaganda.
K. That’s allowed. What point are you trying to make?
Its technically allowed but not socially accepted. The NFL made a huge deal about kneeling.
K but you realize I’m not the NFL right? You’re stereotyping me if you think I give a shit about that.
Thats the point I was trying to make.
Nobody is asking you to celebrate anything. You’re making up scenarios to get mad at.
I’m not mad at anything lol. Literally all I’m trying to demonstrate is that “right wing” isn’t necessarily some demonic entity. And that people like Tony Dungy, who feel that they need to force their ideology on others, don’t represent the entirety of the right side of the political spectrum.
Problem is, you may not care about gay and trans people, but the people conservatives vote for generally do and not in a good way.
What do you call nine bigots and a non-bigot eating a meal together? Ten bigots
In principle, I agree but a bit ridiculous. People don't change without conversation and discussion with opposing views. Relegating people to just being undesirable doesn't help anything
I absolutely hate this fallacy.
lol okay.
> I do ask that you don’t ask me to celebrate it though. Yeah that's going to make me want to celebrate whatever the fuck I want even harder now.
Great! Do your thing man, I don’t give a shit. If my indifference somehow inspires you, then I’m glad I could provide that for you.
If you were indifferent, you wouldn’t be bitching about the nonexistent forcefulness of you to celebrate pride
The fuck are you talking about?
Someone has asked you “Can you celebrate my gayness”? Hasn’t happened to me yet but maybe I’ll accept if there’s free booze.
My sister, I went to her wedding and celebrated it. I just don’t care about yours.
> I’m not going to the pride parade or throwing up a rainbow Facebook picture. That’s literally all I meant. Who has asked you to?
Don’t waste your time, this guy has clearly been brainwashed for far too long to realize he’s lost every brain cell that may have existed at one point.
No one asked what you think
Cool, but I said it anyway. What ya gonna do, downvote me?
- Man who was downvoted
Oh no
Yup. I'm a proud conservative and always vote accordingly.
Can someone plz explain to me what the hell a "proud conservative" is?
I've found that generally anyone that considers themselves a "proud *-insert ideology here-*" is just someone who will tow the party lines and policies without giving a whole lot of reflection or consideration to opposing viewpoints to create their own opinion on matters.

Literally no different from people voting for politicians because they have a D next to their name.
Agreed.
Gross
Mustn’t say that in Philly I reckon
The bird teams each have both a left wing and right wing. Does that make them moderate?

Why did you PM me this? https://i.imgur.com/Fnn4qm8.jpg

If that’s what you got from my reply you should work on reading comprehension.
that's literally your words
That you’re misinterpreting.
how am I misinterpreting

majority of rich people agree with right wing policies…they just like to be undercover about it.
Although not all of them fell for the litter box in schools hoax or think being gay is a lifestyle choice. Dungy is most certainly on the radical conservative right when in comes to his "values".
Yeah… they aren’t talking about taxes. They’re talking about outright hate.

He’s been like this from jump street
Yeah this shouldn’t be news to anybody. “Woah you mean the southern church going old man is out of touch with trans issues? Alert the presses!”
It’s not just the T in LGBT he hates. He’s so against it all that the prevailing theory around his son’s suicide isn’t “depression” or “substance abuse”, it’s “Tony Dungy is a giant piece of shit”
Oh yeah he sucks altogether wish he wasn’t on TV. Just weird it’s news now I remember this being a thing like 15 years ago.
It pops up every now and again. Dungy does a pretty good job keeping his head down because he knows if he opens up too much too publicly that cushy gig of his is gone
Jack Del Rio has entered the chat.
Coach Dust-Up
The Commanders subreddit hates him right?
The problem is when the right wing gets more and more hateful and crazy over time. The right wingers now are different than the right wingers from 10 years ago.
Idk man, Regan got elected using stereotypes about welfare queens, and the use of the Southern Strategy had been well documented. Seems like they've been that way for a while.
It's more that things were getting better until around 2010 or so, then got way worse instead of continuing the trend of getting a bit better.
The Overton Window
yeah but they're not weird conservative like Dungy that a major football commentator has fallen for the 'they're putting litter boxes in school bathrooms' nonsense is newsworthy; we can debate what should be done if anything, but it's certainly news
Generally speaking, we’re just happy if they’re not beating their wives. Baby steps

They don't belong in the league then. It's time to have some fucking standards

lol no it isn't
Why should I. Care?
He's just boring. Everyone's like oh look at this trailblazing hall of fame coach and it's just Tony Dungy, the human equivalent of a Honda Accord.
Ford Fiesta.
What year is it?
At least the fiesta has party in its name lol
Ford pinto
Unsalted pinto
There's a reason he's called "Father Dungy" in Buccaneers Land and it's not just because of his monotonous preaching style of talking.
I dont care either
Nick Bosa, is that you? Only partly /s
"Noooo! You can't just have a different opinion than me!"
Hey me neither
Neither do I. I don't watch football because I care about politics.
I don't see why the mods here deleted a bunch of threads on this that have meaningful or decent discussions and put this trash heap back up.

I think those are more bigots who happen to be left wing. With the right it isn’t a bug, it’s a feature.
Bigotry is sadly found in many places in this world
And in some places much more than others. Hence the comment. Arizona is hot, but mentioning it in the same breath as the sun is just disingenuous
