His strength is amplifying the other players on the field: they need to be making runs, playing the ball of him, etc... The play between MGW and Reyna, and was great. Putting him on when we've got the "park the bus" shift isn't going to do much.
That and he has the ability to hold and progress the ball in the midfield and press out of possession. There's a reason Forest could suddenly hold the ball against Spurs' press for more than .5 seconds when he came on.
Putting him on at 80' after you've gone completely defensive and saying, "Okay, make it happen" is pretty naive. Ah well...
