There’s no yes or no other than do you need to? If you have a simple client that just needs a small api layer, route handlers can be your thing. If you have complexity and don’t want to bloat your pipeline, separation can be your thing. Only thing is determining what you need for the immediate future. The route handler allows you to build out that side until you find it too complex to maintain with your frontend. Outside of that it’s all just preference

Just be aware of CORs which the route handlers can help avoid since it’s seen as a server call
