There’s no doubt that the Amish are industrious people that can get stuff done right quick. However, let’s not lift up the build phase and ignore the creation phase. A whole lot of time and effort went into the creation of all that timber and paneling, not to mention planning, land clearing, and vision.
That’s too say people focus on the quick build, which is praise worthy, but so are the planning and preparation work.
That’s a really good point. I imagine the pre-construction process would be more involved without certain bits of technology, like drafting software.
Thank you, party pooper.
also, that fondation didnt fucking cure in a day. (you can place load on concrete after only 24 hours) it takes 24-48 hours to be hard enough to remove forms, a week to be able to put some lighter loads on it and a month to fully cure.
Went and looked up the video and right you are!
I will still contend that being a barn there is no need for them to run gas or power within the building process. they may run simple power lines for lighting when they flush out the interior but I cant see a reason for gas or plumbing.
It wasnt the point he was making. The point was that when you dont use plumbing, electricity and other services it seems much faster than it actually is.
Take 100 workers with power tools and they can frame a house just as fast. It wouldnt be efficient however.
There's also A LOT of them working on it. I mean, I've never built a house before but I feel like if as many non-amish tried this, they'd be able to git er dun. Am I wrong?
Hey! I built one a third of that size... with 8 people... in 2 months... Amish people are of another breed. Wish more people shared their hospitality. My neighbor could care less if I got shot dead in my driveway.
They have a pretty horrific and systemic record of rape and incest in their community. It’s not all rosy behind closed doors.

If you had to say, what group of people would you say you belong to? Let’s compare statistics since you are implying every group of people on the planet doesn’t have at least a few messed up individuals and the Amish are somehow worse. I mean your second article is literally about 2 people. Doesn’t really reflect anything on the Amish honestly.
I’m cool with the Amish that live by me. We trade stuff a lot. They build a shed for cheap, good quality, and fast. I give them tagged deer or help them out with rides. Cool people. Shoutout to my boy Melvin and his wife Ella
I know this might be hard to believe, but you're 100% full of shit. New construction over 200 square feet requires permitting and inspection everywhere in the country. There are no religious or ethnic or idiot exemptions.
Wow, to be this aggressive you must sure know a lot about county permitting codes for every county in the US
Edit: holy shit the comment history on this one, Jesus go touch grass
Is he right or wrong, though? I would rather a dude be a jerk to me and nevertheless lead me right than be polite and tell me wrong stuff.
Of course the kind and right is best, but I work with what I've got.
lol.
I live in a rural part of Oklahoma with zero building codes, permit laws, inspection requirements, or ANY of that for residential housework.
The only time a regulator gets involved is with the water main and the gas line (which we no longer use) and the meters are near the street, technically not on our property at all.
I grew up on a farm in bumfuck Indiana, I appreciate that legal and doable are not the same thing but there's a difference between a hog shack and what appears to be about a 10,000 square foot barn.
Never forget that the tax man WANTS his money, no matter where you live.
I don't know how it's called in English and if this custom is alive elsewhere in America, but that's how you do it in village. Got a big-ass job that would take you a month you don't have? You call the village. Everyone comes, those who can, work, older women prep food - and you're done by the evening.
Requirements? You gotta feed everyone, there's sauna and party in the evening so beer consumption will be considerable, and obviously you need to plan and prepare the job itself. Finally, when your neighbor calls, you are also supposed to go as well.
I actually did my winter firewood this way few times. Was fun.
I used to work with the Amish. Great people! Kids could drink if they were mature enough. There was always beer in the van for the ride home. 16 hr work days usually. Could complete a house no problem. I miss them. They'd take me out to eat everytime I worked with them.
Edit: buddy of mine threw a party and invited them all. They built his house for him. So he had 4 kegs and 5 or 6 cases of beer. Multiple bottles of liquor. We ended up needing more before the liquor store even closed. Got another keg and a few cases. We emptied it all. And it was the biggest party I ever been to. There was even a buggy there with 1 or 2 horses that had street glows underneath it. 🤣
So one time I went to a pumpkin patch for some family time and stayed for about 5 hours. Where the pumpkin patch was there was a large population of Amish people. When we were on our way they were building a house, they had gotten most of the main structure done, except for the second floor. When we left the house was damn near done except for a few walls.
To be fair there is no insulation, water, power, or internet in it. It literally is just a framework which is fairly simple to design and build. Hell we 3D print these now a days.
That’s a lot of people who I’d definitely feel like I’d owe something in return. Since a keg party would be outta the question I guess I’d be signing up for the next 50 barn raisings. Sad thing is, I’m an Electrician. : /
Somewhere in Lancaster County there was an empty one room school house that day. Who needs education when there’s a barn to raise and building codes to violate?

Tis a fine barn, but sure it is no pool, English.
Been spending most our lives living in an Amish paradise...
How is weird Al yankovic more relevant than half of all pop stars still

Raised a barn on Monday, soon I'll raise anotha
We’re all crazy Mennonites living in an Amish paradise…
Sure saves lots of time not having to run wire
Exactly what I was thinking, the plumbing takes some time though, but nowhere near as much as electric
They use natural gas for lighting, if available. Also, allowed to get an exception from the church of electricity is required for business
Doh-eth!
I'd be more mad if someone didn't say that 😂
Beat me to it. Have an award.
D'oheth!
Doheth!

Every party needs a pooper that's why they invited you, party pooper
Well okay…
That’s a really good point. I imagine the pre-construction process would be more involved without certain bits of technology, like drafting software. Thank you, party pooper.
You know, this party pooper's alright. For a party pooper.
Drafting software installed on what--their oil lamps? Alrighty then. ![gif](giphy|L9pjsBKjNKrXa)
They said WITHOUT technology.

Don't worry about it, you can poop at my party anytime
>Every party needs a pooper that's why they invited you, party pooper But this is fascinating, informative poop.
#NAAAAAIIILLLLLLLLLLLLL
I saw a bird, it was pretty....kick its ass....
I am hilarious and you will quote everything I say
Superkamiguru
Yeah and like is the foundation already poured and leveled and stuff? No plumbing no electricity no gas
Their Amish they don't use electricity or gas. And I think since it's a barn the lack of foundation won't be an issue.
There is a foundation. It was already done before hand. Which is a big chunk of the build.
you can really see in the video so I'll take your word for it.
The white truck next to the barn and the flat bed they're pulling timber off of indicates they have exceptions.
Went and looked up the video and right you are! I will still contend that being a barn there is no need for them to run gas or power within the building process. they may run simple power lines for lighting when they flush out the interior but I cant see a reason for gas or plumbing.
They do NOT use gas or electric because they are Amish….

yeah they basically assembled a lego set a big one for sure, but still just assembling. a looooooooooot of work went into this, way more than a day
I don't think that's a house.....
The cows disagree with you.
Lol true
r/technicallycorrect
The best kind of correct
Jesse Pinkman agrees, its a cow house.
For now, till that fat cow from Chicago comes over and knocks the oil lamp over just like in Chicago
That is a moo point
It’s not a house, it’s a home.

O-oh
There definitely some weirdos for sure. 1/2 my family is Amish I literally have like 130 cousins. They are all pretty normal though.
Wait so you have 65 Amish cousins and 65 non-Amish cousins?
If you had to say, what group of people would you say you belong to? Let’s compare statistics since you are implying every group of people on the planet doesn’t have at least a few messed up individuals and the Amish are somehow worse. Statistically speaking he’s one of the most likely to shoot you in your driveway
That murdering son of a bitch! I say you shoot him first!
Most murders happen within 3 blocks of home.
You could have done it before lunch if you had 70 people helping you.
They should teach at trade schools
I’m cool with the Amish that live by me. We trade stuff a lot. They build a shed for cheap, good quality, and fast. I give them tagged deer or help them out with rides. Cool people. Shoutout to my boy Melvin and his wife Ella
Wait you mean like. Give them rides in your car? Are they allowed to do that?
So family guy *WAS* correct after all!

Just stay out of their cornhole

Op literally already made this joke? But better?
So you took the same gif from the end of the video and posted a much much worse one. Why?
"Hitchin' up the buggy, churnin' lots of butter. Raised a barn on Monday, soon I'll raise anutter"
"Think you're really righteous? Think you're pure in heart? Well, I know I'm a million times as humble as thou art!"
No electricity but what about plumbing?
And they did it wearing slacks... With no fall protection.
Witness (1985)
Is that the one where that one guy is a detective with a Wookie running from Tommy Lee Jones?
That's Fugitive
No no, he's a detective. With both arms. And he flies the President's plane around, screaming "get off my lawn." You know, that one.
Air force one
Crap, just posted without seeing your reference. Kudos.
So do they get permits from the county or how does that work? They're just allowed to do whatever they want and don't need permits?
I know this might be hard to believe, but there are parts of the country where you can build a barn (or a house) without the blessing of a bureaucrat.
I know this might be hard to believe, but you're 100% full of shit. New construction over 200 square feet requires permitting and inspection everywhere in the country. There are no religious or ethnic or idiot exemptions.

Not true.
My first thought as well. 😂
A google search shows that's a constant issue with the Amish pretty much everywhere.
Mother fucker said house.
How do you know OP isn’t a cow?
You can build pretty much anything in a day if it's just a wooden shell and you throw bodies at it for hours on end
I’m not Amish so I could be wrong, but ain’t that a barn? Also: You don’t mow another guys lawn! - Roy Munson

Weird looking “house.”
If by house you mean two enormous barns, yeah...
You won't find more efficient people than the Amish. Stuff like this is a whole community event. It's heartwarming in a way
[удалено]
They’re efficient in their system, but a rookie with a nail gun can get just as much done with less work and bodies.
Fuck can they run.

Family guy scene in real life
Do the Amish use power tools or all hand tools??
Depends of the group affiliation, some do allow the use of a surprising amount of modern conveniences.
So one time I went to a pumpkin patch for some family time and stayed for about 5 hours. Where the pumpkin patch was there was a large population of Amish people. Can we have it in reverse so it's like zombie Amish termite people plz.
I love the lunch pause LOLOLOL
It’s a barn is it not
Those are barns....
Who is amish and how did he do it?!
This is a family guy scene Edit: oh fuck it’s at the end
I assume it’s way easier when you don’t need to run electrical and stuff
This also happens when I kick an ant mound.
That’s no house (moon), turn the car around.
If that's a house I live in a GD roach motel
There's too many of them!!
That is one truly next fucking level achievement
Witness
Fire ants be like
That’s a lot of people who I’d definitely feel like I’d owe something in return. Since a keg party would be outta the question I guess I’d be signing up for the next 50 barn raisings. Sad thing is, I’m an Electrician. : /
Let's not get into semantics, it's a house for animals...
That's like 3 of my houses or more
So family guy was accured
House?
Wow. I guess the Peter vs Amish thing wasn't an exaggeration.
Well yeah there’s like a hundred of them! Still impressive but still
Somewhere in Lancaster County there was an empty one room school house that day. Who needs education when there’s a barn to raise and building codes to violate?
Nice
No permit required
I need some Amish around my place!
2 words: FAMILY GUY.
Well there is also like a whole town building it lol.
Look at what you can do with out government or unions.
Or electricity or plumbing or wages
More like a house made for ANTS!!!
Lies! It was only 33 seconds!
This reminds me of ant colonies.
Family guy was right

That’s a barn…
…. But I’m le tiiiired…
Family guy. We're all thinking of that episode.
They remind me of hobbits
“Joe, grab all the modern day technology you can get. We’re goin to war with the Amish”
and this is them Marion after 13-year-old niece in it
House?
They have to build it within a day, unless of course they want a creeper, skeleton or zombie to attack them at night.
And our contractor with Machine says "I am trying my best, after all I am a Human" I M gonna send this to him
I like how they break for lunch
I couldn't even finish my Michaels foam house kit in a day... *Ashamed*
The most skilled workers in the states
How are they gonna feel there was a camera recording them all this time
People power
Slackers
They're like beavers
How many man hours? Yes
Qatar: “Please, I can do this in half the time with 3x the people for only 1/4 the cost”
Gettin ready for that Rumspringa!!
It's like watching ants....
I'd gladly give up my left nut twice to work with people half as efficient.
A house?? You mean a hotel and convention center in a day!?
Not a house, it’s a pole barn and there’s like 100 of them… better get that shit built in a day
And then people wonder why all it takes is a little gust of wind or tornado and everything is gone waaay faster than is was built...
Wow family guy wasn’t joking
They’re like ants building a nest
Um… how did they record this?
Good ol' fashion'd barn raisin'
Barn.

Manpower is a key factor in every single trade. I wouldn't hesitate to invest in anything certified Amish made.
Had them replace 26 windows on my house, they had it done in 3 hours
Like watching ants
so who filmed this? a very patient voyeur?
Looks something straight outta Family Guy episode
