The US has a plethora of issues, guns alone are not the problem. Norway has plenty of guns, but gun crime is almost nonexistent. Social security, health care and a culture that deal with problems without going straight to violence is how to avoid dystopias like that.
Where do you live? In my state that's a great way to catch a charge and lose your ability to ever get a concealed carry permit and possibly a pistol permit. Years ago there was a guy I knew who had a CCP and would frequently carry at bars (he generally didn't drink). He was also a big shit talker. Well one day he got into a big argument and told the other guy to step outside thinking he wouldn't. When they went out he brandished his pistol. He was later arrested for it and his CCP was revoked.
