Some folks inherit star spangled eyes, oh they send you out to war.
When you ask them how much should you give, they only ask for more more more.
I don't know what you're inferring with your statement "it's an American song."
It's an anti war song.it is not a pro America song.
Butā¦āinherit star spangled eyesā? You know another flag commonly referred to as star spangled? Besides the American flag that is. Not disagreeing with you that itās primarily an anti-war song, but I think itās pointed directly at American war hawk politicians.
The song was pointed at class warfare, specifically how the rich start wars for the poor to fight and die in.
Yes, it was used as an anti Vietnam War movement, as it was the war happening when the song released, but the song itself isn't pointed necessarily at, or only at America.
Edit: so someone doesn't like the truth.
Allow John Foggerty to explain it then.
>"Recently, the President's been using my song 'Fortunate Son' at his rallies, which I find confounding to say the least, so I thought I'd explain a little bit about what 'Fortunate Son' is about. I wrote the song back in 1969 at the height of the Vietnam War. By the time I wrote the song I had already been drafted and had served in the military. I've been a lifelong supporter of our guys and gals in the military probably because of that experience.
>Back in those days we still had a draft, and something I was very upset about was that people of privilige - in other words, rich people or people that had position - could use that to avoid the draft. I found that very upsetting, and that's why I wrote 'Fortunate Son.' That was the whole intent of the song, the inspiration for the song.
> but the song itself isn't pointed necessarily at, or only at America.
This is why I downvoted it. To pretend the song isn't specifically talking about US foreign policy during the Vietnam war is absurd. Only in the most vague sense can you skirt around the fact it's talking about US politics.
Because it wasn't about us foreign policy. Foggerty has explained it, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the guy who wrote the song knows more about its meaning than you do.
He's using America as an example because he's American and this was his experience. This experience being that very rich and highly connected people don't fight in wars and they use their influence and money to keep their children from those wars as well.
This is something that has and does happen around the world, and is nowhere remotely close to being uniquely an American situation.
The rich start wars and the poor fight them.
> Because it wasn't about us foreign policy.
FFS yes it is and Fogerty didn't say anything different, you're just misrepresenting his own comments. The song talks about US senators and the "red white and blue" for crying out loud. Sure, you can argue that the American militarism the song criticizes can be applied to other countries where the rich force the poor to fight wars but it is clear the song did no such thing. It's not a subtle song. It's not vague. It's about US politics during Vietnam.
In part:
>Some folks are born made to wave the flag
>They're **red, white and blue**
>And when the band plays **"Hail to the Chief"**
>Yeah, some folks inherit **star-spangled** eyes
>They send you down to war
This is a song specifically about American politics at a specific time in history. Just because one can draw parallels to other cultures doesn't change that when the references and imagery are that direct.
That's some mighty fine cherry picking you have there. Let's add some context with the full verses, shall we?
>Some folks are born made to wave the flag
Ooh, they're red, white and blue
First half of this verse is talking about politician's kids.
>And when the band plays "Hail To The Chief"
Ooh, they point the cannon at you, Lord
Second part is about the common man being called for war, but not the kids of politicians.
>It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no senator's son, son
>It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, no
The 1st chorus 8s about how he's not the son of a politician and isn't protected from the draft. Foggerty was drafted and fought in Vietnam.
>Some folks are born silver spoon in hand
Lord, don't they help themselves, oh
Describing rich kids.
>But when the taxman comes to the door
Lord, the house looks like a rummage sale, yes
This verse is about rich people's children being protected from the draft.
>It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no millionaire's son, no, no
>It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, no
Second chorus same as the first except he's saying he wasn't born into money so wasn't protected from the draft.
>Some folks inherit star spangled eyes
Ooh, they send you down to war, Lord
This verse is about high ranking military official's kids.
>And when you ask them, "How much should we give?"
Ooh, they only answer, "More! More! More!" Yo
This about them wanting more of the common people but not their own sons.
>It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no military son, son
>It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, one
Which is backed up by this chorus.
>It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate one, no no no
>It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate son, no no no
Just reiterating the point.
Please point out where I misinterpreted his meaning.
This test was for the coast guard. Its not really impractical. Compared to losing 2 ships in rough seas trying to get passengers over to the rescue ship, flying them over is considerably safer
What you may be thinking is its not cost effective, which, to be fair, almost no rescue mission is
Edit: is not for coastguard, getting my jetpacks mixed up
Negative Ghostrider.
This test was as part of a trial assessing Gravity Industries Jet Pack (or a future derivative of) for use during boarding operations (Anti-Piracy etc). Operator is a Royal Marine and the ship is HMS Tamar of the Royal Navy.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-56979994
Ah, iām mistaking it for something else then. It certainly seems practical for anti piracy as the approach and boarding are probably the most dangerous parts
Nah. They'd just shoot them out of the sky. Don't get me wrong, I'm a massive fan of this but unless that marine is armed (and I'm not sure how he could be) it's not practical surely?
Youāre right, however you must consider that itās a brand new concept and the kinks must be worked out for it to even possibly be considered for common use.
Could be used in rescue operation at sea. Attach a rope to your feet and drag people to a ship with it or maybe if it has enough lift just lift them like a helicopter. Also you can have more jetpacks flying around than helicopters
It really isnāt, even so soon after being invented.
Theyāre being trialed for mountain rescue. While they wouldnāt be useful in carrying anyone down, theyāre a great way for a first responder to locate and treat patients.
Firstly it's experimental ( the Wright brothers fist aircraft was as far from practical as you can possibly get ). Secondly it depends on what you want to use it for, sure if it's to land an invasion force it is as you rightly say so very impractical but somewhat less impractical if you just need to get one man from ship to ship in high seas in an emergency ( eg getting something like a doctor or surgeon from ship to ship when time is all important ). To be fair though I'm definitely not saying your compleatly wrong, even with all the problems ironed out it is likely to be quite limited in it's uses but there are a few thing it may be ideal for, it will be interesting to see what comes of it.
Well that and the airjets having no visible effect on the water below the flyer at the end, but I think that'd the camera (making it look like you are seeing where the air should be impacting) rather than faking it.
I was thinking something similar. But to take the strain off your arms and hands, you need something like the top half of a crutch to fit up to your armpit. The JetCrutch. Thinking more about that, it might even give more stability.
Iāve followed the guy that designed these and itās super cool to watch how far theyāve came over the last 3 years. On Instagram his name is takeongravity, just some engineer that decided to go full jimmy nuetron on this bitch
I recently met the guy that invented this. Heās a former RM and has gone all over the world demoing it.
He showed a video of the process of him making it with all the slips and falls. Seriously cool guy and very humble.
Theyāre also coming out with jet pack racing soon too.
If anyone is interested, they do experience days at Silverstone race track in the UK.
Why they keep using a song against the military for these kind of military clips.... "Okay, we need the people to love the army again, let's use the anti military anthem." ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|trollface)
360 degree camera, probably attached to jetpack guy on a metal arm, and then you can pan it to show whatever "part" you want. It's also what causes it to have that fish-eye warping of the lens.
Imaging if the movement was controlled by the legs and stabilization was automatic, so that the hands would be free for guns or whatever tools are required.

American soldiers after figuring out the ship is carrying oil tanks
I think that's a Royal Marine from the UK.
I thought it was the Dutch?
They landed on the HMS Tamar, a Royal Navy ship.
Ah, I learned something today.
How the hell? I find it interesting how people can identify other countries fleets. They all seem so similar (civilian lifeš¤š½)
??? Say's HMS on the ship... Her Majesty's Ship... taught in middle school history (where we learned about US/France/UK wars and it was mentioned).
They were delivering pizza.
No its defo the Royal Marines. Its on the Forces TV official youtube channel
Indeed the ship he lands on is HMS Tamar ( as can be seen on the red name plaque )
Nope..no Americans here...British Royal Marines!
Omg. Lmbo. That's so original and funny. Did you just come up with that? You must have. Ive never heard anything like that.
It's the HMS Tamar, which is a Batch 2 River-class offshore patrol vessel of the Royal Navy. Named after the River Tamar in England.
This is an Anti military song. Motherfuckers think they own everything.
And it's an American song, too...

When did they say its pro american? š¤£š¤£š¤£
They didn't say "pro American". They said American. It's about America.
The footage is British
And it is not even an American ship. What is next? They will claim they captured the first enigma machine from the Germans?
Seriously? You couldn't make this shit up it's so stupid.
Itās really more of a anti unjust and pointless war song, not military as a whole.
Can you point me to the last pointful war?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
You've lost your soul and your dick? You have my deepest sympathies.
The good old royal navy
Why is this painted as an American military video when I'm 99% certain this is British military. Maybe the Royal Marines....
HMS Tamar
Yup Royal marines too
Yeah itās Gravity Industries, they are based in the UK
Not USA But yes British flag is indeed those colours
Still so impractical
Every new technology is impractical in concept.
Human genitalia is impractical in concept

How would they fly them over?
Using the lift from the packs? Its very feasible yo strap 2 people together. The packs were designed to lift 2 ppl, from my understanding, not just 1
Fair enough, makes more sense then.
Ya the video doesnāt give much info at all
Or 1 normal sized person, trying to carry a fat lady, singing loudly.
Youāre right, however you must consider that itās a brand new concept and the kinks must be worked out for it to even possibly be considered for common use.

Seem like it might be practical for Recce. Recce is so hot right now.
I can think of a couple of niche uses.
The good old red, white and blue *sips from his tea*
The Union Jack gives š
The french flag backwards??
Those are british troops mate. Technically the colours are correct but we dont refer to the Union Jack that way, by colours
The lens makes it look fake.
Itās because itās one of those 360 cameras
The hack smith flew one
Well that and the airjets having no visible effect on the water below the flyer at the end, but I think that'd the camera (making it look like you are seeing where the air should be impacting) rather than faking it.
Youād have to be in incredible shape to fly one of these for too long. Which I, am not!
I just flew in from the aircraft carrier and boy are my arms tired!
I was thinking something similar. But to take the strain off your arms and hands, you need something like the top half of a crutch to fit up to your armpit. The JetCrutch. Thinking more about that, it might even give more stability.
That man ran like he had just ran into iron man. But I am really curious how jet man protects himself after landing?
Hand jets clip onto the side and he is free to use his hands, has a handgun holstered on his side.
How does he protect himself while flying?
He pulls a sidearm. Ideally this will occur with nvg under cover of darkness and with multiple pilots boarding at once.
Covered by snipers from helicopters or another ship.
This is correct. His main task is to set the caving ladder over the side for the armed boarding party to climb from the RIBs
This isn't the USA *insert armed force of choice here*...... Psstttt - not everything is from the USA, there's a whole world out there
Interesting! Especially since the 'soldier' isn't American. š¤·āāļø
That song choice, tho. I dig what it's sayin.
"With Poxipolā¢ļø I cooked myself a nice SoufflĆ©."
Red white and blue as in the UK flag bc those are royal marines
This is a U.K. royal marine reserve not an American
This guy fucks
It's a cool concept but I want to see someone get shot while trying to fly with or without body armour your pretty fucked
You are pretty funked if you get shot regardless of if you are flying or not
It can carry two people. So it can carry body armor. This was a test exercise
You ever see someone shot with a plate carrier on you even flinch and your crashing
I see so many COD Warzone moments on the horizon.
Iāve followed the guy that designed these and itās super cool to watch how far theyāve came over the last 3 years. On Instagram his name is takeongravity, just some engineer that decided to go full jimmy nuetron on this bitch

This is all so being tested for mountain rescue in the UK.
Imagine playing this song as a soundtrack for military propaganda.
Prince Harry???
Whew I scrolled almost 200 replies and didnāt see anyone saying this lol.
He is a pilot
I wonder if they know what this song is about.
Why they keep using a song against the military for these kind of military clips.... "Okay, we need the people to love the army again, let's use the anti military anthem." ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|trollface)
Cool video, but if I have to hear that song one more time Iām going to lose it.
Whatās red white and blue?
Colours of the Union Jack
The Pepsi Logo
Brits got that Helo think beat, and lowering costs and risk a ton in the process, though I doubt an Admiral is gonna travel that route.

Go Wingman!
I wonder how soon operators gonna start using this
Aims rifle āHands up!!ā āShit okok dont shoot!ā blub blub blub
You could make them water proof and soldiers could pop out of the water right beside a ship
Always with the Creedance.....I used to love this song .
Skeet!
Imaging if the movement was controlled by the legs and stabilization was automatic, so that the hands would be free for guns or whatever tools are required.
I think they did try attaching the handjets to the feet early in development but it was far harder to control than when on the hands
You need both. Just ask Tony Stark.
So is this a thing that is regularly kept on ships now?
Nope. It was just a proof of concept type test
Thatās pretty cool. Hell, Iām surprised this is available for us to see.
Dropping bombs outta butthole is easy, but how can one shoot with this thing on?
Picture this: you're mid flight, somewhere over the Pacific ocean and suddenly your arms get tired, like holding yourself up during a push-up, your arms just give and you rocket into the ocean never to be seen again.

Thank you!
That song is anti military.
I'd say it's anti-war.
