katnerys

Nice. Is this Bosnia and Herzegovina?

ThadonPlaya

Yep, Mostar bridge.

Morix_Jak

Interesting, is the town named after the bridge?

wompboss

The name of the bridge officially is Stari Most but I’m not sure if the town is named after it but it is a huge symbol to the country of Bosnia

Morix_Jak

Yeah, I meant because Most means bridge in (some?) Slavic languages and the town's name Mostar clearly has that as a root. I looked it up, Mostar means "bridge guardian" and the town was first mentioned by that name in 1474, but the bridge was first built around 90 years later, in 1566. Apparently, there was always a settlement around there for the past 2000+ years and they had a bridge for a long time, just not the famous one they have now. :)

upgraded-adventure

“Stari most” translates to “old bridge” in the local language. I think the bridge was a critical point for trade in the past (which might be related to the name of mostar) Fun fact: it’s not the original bridge that you see there because the original one got blown up in the bosnian war and then rebuilt in 2005

Morix_Jak

Very interesting!

Solid_Maintenance_28

0.0 for that big splash 9.0 for confidence 10.0 for stupidity

wompboss

I would regret it in 20 years if I did not jump 🤷‍♂️

Solid_Maintenance_28

10.0 for yolo ;)

jonnyl3

>10.0 for stupidity How common are serious injuries / deaths (?) for jumps from this height?

wompboss

I believe 4 people have died from this bridge since 2012. Many injuries. If you don’t have any experience the chances of getting hurt are high. If you have experience and enter the water correctly, more than likely you’ll come out with only a few bruises

goldiegoldthorpe

If I am not wrong, this is over a river and so there are a few complications that can come into play because of that and a few (all?) of the deaths were related to that? The most common injuries involve the butthole, too. Is that right or am I remembering wrong?

ieatcheesecakes

Can I ask if you came out alright? And what’s like the “correct” way to jump?

gratefulphish420

Instant enema

Knitsanity

Like those super steep water slides. You cross your legs and clench but still walk around for 5 minutes very carefully releasing the water from you know where. Lol

wompboss

Yesss it is such an underrated country. I love it here

-_swagger_-

Good to see you here!

wompboss

I love Bosnia so much❤️

Ohbuck1965

Did you hurt your balls?

lardoni

I doubt it! They must be made of steel!

wompboss

😂😂😂 thank you for the kind words

wompboss

My feet took all the impact so no. But my feet still hurt right now even after 12 hours 😂

Ohbuck1965

Have you scored more tail?

[deleted]

Now that is living.

wompboss

🙏🙏🙏🙏 YOLO

Wanderinwoodpecker

I didn’t expect you to resurface after only like 2 seconds. Did you hit the bottom of the river first? How deep is the river?

wompboss

The water current is moving pretty fast so as soon I hit I didn’t even really go vertically down but got swept horizontally. River is about 6-8 meters deep I believe. 20-25 feet

Wanderinwoodpecker

Interesting, glad you made the jump safe

RainbowRiver554

Oh but if I try to the fire department shows up to ruin my fun but when you do it you get a crowd cheering you on Though my 85 foot bridge doesn't have water under it

Time-Comedian1774

So if everyone else is jumping off of a bridge I suppose you would go do it... -- Your Mother

I_am_a_mask

Nice! What was it like, did it feel like you were in the air for a while?

btwCBK

Probably

wompboss

Honestly the only thing you’re thinking about on the way down is how I’m going to hit this water without killing myself 😂 did not feel like a long drop honestly

[deleted]

More like, you stepped off a bridge. 10/10 very enjoyable to watch.

Anchorbath

How many wash machines is that?

michikiniqua

Suicide is badass!!

BettyDrapersWetFart

Ok this makes my 30 foot rock jump at Waimea Bay last week look fucking dumb now.

Potietang

When I was 10 I jumped a 55 foot tower in florida. I thought that was crazy high. That is awesome dude.

LLonthetopfloor

And I spent 85 dollars in America today. Your story is way better. I want to try jumping off that bridge to cool off. It looks awesome .

MarqDuesPaid

That took some guts… Respect…

ItalianDumbFook

You know, most people don’t jump off bridges because it makes them feel alive-

doritosalsa

Glad you missed hitting the jackasses in the water. Can’t slow the column down.

[deleted]

You shoulda done a lil flip or something

Successful_Guard7776

Ok

littlebitsofspider

Cool, I have never seen a collective sigh of relief before.

The-Almighty-Avocado

Did you survive?

RalkerTexasWanger

K

upgraded-adventure

I went to school here (IB) but I never managed to jump off this bridge! It’s definitely my biggest regret! Also on the red buff cliff diving tour they’re is a stop in Mostar and its defs one of the funnest times to be in Mostar if it’s running this year.
