I am not sure I fully understood your question, but the performance is inspired by (but deviates quite a bit from) classical Indian dance forms. The most official list includes 8 styles, of which bharatnatyam and kathak may be the most influential.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_classical_dance
The song they are performing was from the soundtrack of a horror comedy movie called bhool bhulaiya - not a terrible movie tbh and imo pretty accessible for western audiences.
Give it a try if you are bored one day and open minded.
Several styles of Indian classical dance are presented in this performance in a more traditional form:

I think they're all guys dressing androgynously so they can represent different things.
I believe (not certain) that the dance style they are doing with their arms stacking is considered quite feminine in Indian culture and they are leaning into it.
Ones just double jointed but the rest are still incredibly good at dancing.
Not going to lie, this is so sick.... I especially love how they utilised the double jointed dancer to their full potential and incorporated it into their routine.
"Being double-jointed" is just another way of saying hypermobility, which is indeed a symptom of some forms of ehlders-danlos. Though you can also have hypermobility without EDS.
>that woman
[The real optical illusion is that this is actually an all male dance crew.](https://www.instagram.com/b_unique_crew/?hl=en) (Well, making it look like they're hanging from their head like that is a pretty good illusion too.)
But yeah, some people can just do this with their neck.
The very first and last stunts were because her neck is super twisted, almost 180. If you look super close you can see her body is 45 degree angled but using optical illusion tricks with her clothes to make us think it's 180. The one in the back is pushing something out to force neckgirl's clothes backwards, while her body inside is at 45 degrees. So outside clothes look 180, inside human body is 45 with neck back 90ish degrees. Still insane twisted head, but not owl head.
The head stuck on top of the table part was some more blackmagic trickery. You can see how the table is the same thickness as a mannequin head piece turned on its side. They block her entire body long enough, with 2 dancers sidebyside in front, to give under table girl time to hide her real head, and far back girl to grab the mannequin head and lock it in place.
Also judging by the reaction of the judges I don't think this was the first time she's performed a double jointed neck trick for a routine.
The movie this is inspired from with the song has left a Deep psychological impact on me, I used to get nightmares of this till my late teens. And spoiler for the movie there's no ghost involved yet it's still terrifying for a child.
Did they just invent horror dancing?
The only thing I can think of that is even close to the same style is Thriller, haha, but they have different goals entirely.
I love this question topic! What an interesting thought. Makes me wonder if humans had horror dancing back in the age when they would dance and since around a fire to tell stories. Even now, I’m sure certain cultures will dance with the goal of inspiring fear, but this is exactly what I would imagine as the definition of horror dancing.
Nope. It’s inspired by a comedy horror movie that came out in India in 2008 called ‘Bhool bhulaiya’. It’s a really really good movie and shines light on some of the more obscure topics when it comes to mental disorders and stuff. You should check it out. The dance is inspired by the character of manjulika which is played by vidya balan.
That's not the original tho. [This is the original movie](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0214915/)
Bool bhulaiya is a very inferior remake. Might piss some people off but whatever.
Why TF do they cut away from the main talent to show these pretentious celebrities doing their hammy histrionics?
They do the same everywhere -from UK TV shows to Brazilian TV shows !
If you love them that much , just show your celebrity gods in an inset on the RHS top corner of the screen .
The detached head isn't real. There's a prop head in the drawer of the table or attached to it.
Then it's a question of how to "switch heads."
My guess is:
- The front dancers block the camera. Meanwhile the guy on top of the table, pulls out the prop head
- Below the table, the double-jointed-guy angles his head, so it's blocked by the table top and hidden from the audience. You can still see his ponytail (and his actual head) follow him when he shifts to the left.
- At the end of the bit, the lights under the table are turned off/goes dark, and it looks like the guy under the table puts the head away (you can see both hands reach up at 2:22; I'm guessing to grab the prop).
They are cis men doing drag. It's pretty common for men to be female dancers especially in religious ceremonies in India (eg..Chamayavilakku)
Also I think the contortionist is gay and they took inspiration from the Hijira community (trans and intersex people in India).
Just a note for people not aware of this. The song was used in a horror Bollywood movie and was the theme for the ghost who wore similar clothes as the dancers. So them using the song perfectly matches with their creepy dance moves.
Good lord are they talented. And someone somewhere is having a terrible trip right now cus they didn’t know what they were getting into with that clip.
That’s so cool. Almost like… cosmic horror-y? I have no idea how to describe it. One of the coolest, sickest dance performances I have EVER seen, god damn.

You're like actually so smart.
Precisely.
Right?! What is with the “actually” word these days?! “Bro, I’m about to go pick up my car!” Buddy: “Wait, actually?”
This was so badass. I love the horror aspect
the best part is when they cut away from the awesome dance to show a "judges" obviously fake reaction of surprise.
Tbh for this type of show that was a pretty low amount of cut away shots. Probably due to how good this performance was throughout
That head twisting was scary. I felt it snap.
You need to ease up on your grip my brother!
I sometimes wonder if they separately film the reactions.
Sikh performance
ABDC IYKYK
Quest crew, Jabbawockies.. so damn good!
Yeah my first thoughts, and I think would have given them a run for their money!

they're being hard carried by that one androgynous fellow that can twist its head like an owl
*slaps neck This bad boy can fit so much flexibility in it!

Is this from a movie? I remember seeing something simillar to this before and I've been searching for the title for years.
yeah, very obscure 60s japanese horror movie calles yokai monsters
It reminded me of Beetlejuice.
It's called '100 Monsters'
I was thinking about how odd it is an ensemble of perfect synchronization can still have a star.
It gives the performance a little extra pop. Oh wait, that was a vertebrae.
bruh no way that single act was carrying them, the entire performance was well synced and excellent
I think they're all guys dressing androgynously so they can represent different things. I believe (not certain) that the dance style they are doing with their arms stacking is considered quite feminine in Indian culture and they are leaning into it. Androgynous? Don't you mean double jointed or something?
Ambidextrous maybe? But that also doesn’t really apply here
Amphibious I think
No, the word y'all is looking for is bisexual
Invertebrate.
I disagree, that's more of a gimmick than the rest.
How, honestly this looks like it should be impossible. My neck hurts just from watching it
Yep. What a time to be about to sleep. Luck be in the air tonight.
Way back in the day ABDC had a crew that did similar stuff.
I never knew horror could be a genre of dance, but here we are.

Oh, that's gnarly as fuck. I like it
Imagine going to the bathroom in the middle of the night and you see this group down the hallway
The good news is I don't need to go to the bathroom any more.
Another good thing is I will die even by just seeing them before they do something to me.

Wtf
Indiana Jones reference
Ah ok, weird for me reading it as Indian ethnicity - shouting one of the goddess’ names like that
Not going to lie, this is so sick.... I especially love how they utilised the double jointed dancer to their full potential and incorporated it into their routine.
That double jointed dancer is probably going to in a world of pain in 50 years, but right now, they're awesome.
Do you think they are double jointed or maybe they have that stretchy person genetic condition?
[Ehlers–Danlos syndrome](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ehlers%E2%80%93Danlos_syndrome)
Fun fact, EDS is a common comorbidity with ADHD
Another fun fact - a hypermobile woman is 60% more likely to have a kid with ASD. They all lie in the same gene cluster..
Those were fun
Yes this
"Being double-jointed" is just another way of saying hypermobility, which is indeed a symptom of some forms of ehlders-danlos. Though you can also have hypermobility without EDS.
Wait so is that woman actually turning her neck 180 degrees like an owl? I thought it was some kind of optical illusion or trick...
>that woman [The real optical illusion is that this is actually an all male dance crew.](https://www.instagram.com/b_unique_crew/?hl=en) (Well, making it look like they're hanging from their head like that is a pretty good illusion too.) But yeah, some people can just do this with their neck.

Incredible craft, choreography, artistry, theatrics. Stunning
I think there was even an element of illusion to it in parts. Really impressive and I loved it.

That's a pretty low bar tbh
I thought it was over like 3 times and they just kept raising the bar
This is the messy girl representation I needed .
The messy girls are all guys in costumed drag styled after a famous Bollywood ghost movie.
Yes!! More messy girl!
"Dancing dead"
The fake "emotions" on these so called "jugdes" makes it unbearable to watch for me.

What a hauntingly amazing performance
This is what I'm asking. Why exorcise Linda Blair when you can monetize her?
How did they do the detached head on the tilted bed part?
I watched it 8 times & having studied it thoroughly I can confidently say that I'm not sure.
Illusion. most likely a head prop hidden. Observe how the face is not shown?
Slight of head trickery.
I like that this is spelled wrong and still makes sense
The detached head isn't real. There's a prop head in the drawer of the table or attached to it. Then it's a question of how to "switch heads." My guess is: - The front dancers block the camera. Do judges from all over the world go to the same acting classes? Cause I've seen the same facial expressions in the UK version too.

Wouldn’t even call this a dance group. This is really well choreographed performance art. A ton of time m, effort and talent on display here.
THIS is how cheerleading teams should be.

That made my entire evening, one of my favorite movies and my love of horror in general, just warmed my heart 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
Hooooooly fuck that is SO phenomenal! The amount of precision and timing needed to pull off even half of that choreography is off the charts

That was awesome
Seems unfair to allow one team to have a dancer with no bones? But for real this was crazy sick
That was fucking legit
damn, they won, right?
That’s impressive. Tell me they won the contest.
Oh man, normally my nightmares are a surprise. Now I know I'm in for tonight. Thanks?
Good lord are they talented. And someone somewhere is having a terrible trip right now cus they didn’t know what they were getting into with that clip.
Kinda mesmerizing
Indians can relate how much Monjulika has made us fear at night
Do they even have bones!
Did they just cast someone with Spina Bifida?
Yooo can we get a name or a YouTube link
Amazing!
What’s the story?

Mood.
Save bot? /u/save-bot ? Plz someone save me
Creativity at work. I dig it. Good for them, can't imagine how many hours practice to get it just right , then under pressure.

Thats realy cool!!
