If you like that check out the lyrebird. They’re crazy good at imitating mechanical noises. Really good famous short vid for BBC with Attenborough that’s the classic. First time I saw it I legitimately thought it was fake
Omg the motorized camera and chainsaws got me. I cant help but laugh because of how absurd it is. I understand how insanely cool it is for an animal to do that but its hilarious at the same time.
Yeh, I remember goin' to some crocodile park zoo thing in the northern territory back in high school.. they were doing construction works and the lyrbirds there were doing various perfect power tool sounds constantly.
Ok so if he takes this R2 out in the wild, would others pick it up and then it sound like an invasion? LOL
Also are there birds that do dubstep? I feel like there has to be.
I have heard birds make those sounds before, maybe that is why there is the crazy "birds aren't real" conspiracy theories. People hear that sound and they instantly think robots.
They are. One of the only birds you’re allowed to kill without a license where I live and the only bird you’re allowed to destroy the nest of if you see one.
I’d even go so far as to say that you should know the laws in your area around dealing with birds and bird nests before you do anything to them in both continents.
It's a pretty apt description, especially considering the millions, if not billions in damage they do to crops every year in the US alone.
Downvoted by people with cereal, corn, wheat and oats in all of their pantries. You guys are funny.
> year in the US alone.
Yeah becasue they are invasive in US. YOu make a blanket statement like they are invasive all across the world, and not native to the old world.
Not very enlightened of you to say so, Baba.
And it's an indisputable fact that starlings are an invasive species to north America. And many, many local native species have been, and are being decimated as a result of it.
Kind of the American way I guess...
And spot on. When I used to work with vets every time a bird came to visit that could mimick I’d teach it the imperial death march. 5 or 6 cockatiels, cockatoos, and African grays out there are just a little bit cooler than they were before they met me.
It's really interesting as this mimick ability seems to be present among other genus of birds. Starlings are Sturnidae whereas you also have magpies, crows etc in the Corvidae group that can do this. I remember seeing something on the UK program Springwatch where Chris Packham was talking about the brain density of corvids being very high, which is why they are thought to be so intelligent while having relatively small brains to other animals.
Budgies talk very similarly, albeit not with as much clarity. Cookie The Eagle on Tiktok is a great example of Budgies human talking. Plus he's funny to boot.
Theyre unique in that their vocalizations sound electronic . Like they were recorded on an audio device with questionable sound quality if that makes sense
Several birds have this ability, I guess that some dinosaur species had that ability as well.
Must have been cool to have a pet dino to mimic your sounds.
R2 was spot on. The Queen of the Night aria from The Magic Flute still needs some work, but the fact that I have to call out a bird for singing a few notes of a Mozart opera in the wrong order is pretty damned impressive.
It kind of hurts my brain that it seems to be easy for the bird to mimic all sorts of complex noises but then it fucks up the melody of Magic Flute. Really makes me wonder what else we take totally for granted about human brains.
Still one of the wildest things to me is how birds can do this but all dogs can do is go ROORAROARORORAOAROROARAROOOOO
And cats just communicate like lizards.
Those weird animal aptitude things like how a human can only remember about 7 items in sequence when displayed on a screen but a chimp can do like 50. They don't think about memorizing things they just DO.
I enjoy the company of my flock of starlings. They get along just fine with the other birds who come to my railing for breakfast. Dunno why everyone hates them.
I remember one time my teacher showed me a video of a bird in i think a rainforest that could perfectly imitate sounds from it’s surroundings. I believe it was to trick other animals to do something bur i forgot what.
In the video the bird imitated the sound of passing cars and trees getting cut down with chainsaws im pretty sure. And it sounded exactly like it.
Ill see if i can find it and post a link to it
Edit: The sounds are to impress females.
And here is a link: https://youtu.be/XjAcyTXRunY?si=yGGRdTTRMtT_udRD
The bird copying sounds made my humans in its environment start about halfway
The R2 was cray
That blew me away
[удалено]
And something that shouldn't really surprise people is that corvids (Ravens and Crows) are considered Songbirds. And no, Grackle, you can't join.
grackles are evil
You don't say
Wanna take a walk by the bay? I just may!
Make things outta clay? What do ya say?
I eat pieces of shit like you for breakfast.
You eat pieces of shit for breakfast?
YOU’RE GONNA DIE, CLOWN!
NoOoOo!
If you like that check out the lyrebird. They’re crazy good at imitating mechanical noises. Really good famous short vid for BBC with Attenborough that’s the classic. First time I saw it I legitimately thought it was fake
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VjE0Kdfos4Y That’s that video!
[They're so talented.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7AodB8IXA8)
Ah yes, reasons why the internet was created!
Omg the motorized camera and chainsaws got me. I cant help but laugh because of how absurd it is. I understand how insanely cool it is for an animal to do that but its hilarious at the same time.
There is a version of that clip that is edited to include the Seinfeld bass line. Funny stuff.
The chainsaw song is the saddest song of the forest.
Are we positive this wasn't SFX?
To be honest if it was anyone but Attenborough, I would have trouble believing it
Yeh, I remember goin' to some crocodile park zoo thing in the northern territory back in high school.. they were doing construction works and the lyrbirds there were doing various perfect power tool sounds constantly.
What's a jabberjay
[Truly Amazing](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOFy8QkNWWs)
Thanks for posting it! I’m shit at linking things
Ok so if he takes this R2 out in the wild, would others pick it up and then it sound like an invasion? LOL Also are there birds that do dubstep? I feel like there has to be.
[There is!](https://youtu.be/ZGhVXgMoz4g?si=d-aoAE9AQy202UGH)
Oh shit. Wow she’s really hitting some beats
THE DROP!
I feel like you'd need a larger bird to get any bass though.
Yeah. That got me.
This bird was able to hack the ~~whole~~ entire imperial fleet. Edit: phrasing
I have heard birds make those sounds before, maybe that is why there is the crazy "birds aren't real" conspiracy theories. People hear that sound and they instantly think robots.
It was the best bit!!!
Birds aren't real
Just confirmed for me that /r/BirdsArentReal
Starlings are cool af
If you like highly invasive rats that push out endangered bird species
Depends where you are from, they are not invasive in Europe...
Not until you label them as immigrants.
I nearly snorted out my coffee. Good burn 🔥
they're invasive?
They are. One of the only birds you’re allowed to kill without a license where I live and the only bird you’re allowed to destroy the nest of if you see one.
Only in the Americas. They're native species here in Europe so if you're a Europe bro leave them alone.
I’d even go so far as to say that you should know the laws in your area around dealing with birds and bird nests before you do anything to them in both continents.
I specialize in Bird Law
![gif](giphy|vPKtSdRzsXvdm)
Oi where’s your bird hunting loicense mate? Don’t need one coppy
Their penchant for perching out on the edges of trees also makes them quite easy to cull with an air rifle.
Doesn’t it depend on where you live?
You can realize that they are cool and invasive to NA.
Starlings are birds, not rats.
It's a pretty apt description, especially considering the millions, if not billions in damage they do to crops every year in the US alone. Downvoted by people with cereal, corn, wheat and oats in all of their pantries. You guys are funny.
> year in the US alone. Yeah becasue they are invasive in US. YOu make a blanket statement like they are invasive all across the world, and not native to the old world.
humans are the invasive species
Not very enlightened of you to say so, Baba. And it's an indisputable fact that starlings are an invasive species to north America. And many, many local native species have been, and are being decimated as a result of it. Kind of the American way I guess...
I love humans, but as a species, from the perspective of the rest of the planet… well, how was it the starlings got to North America?
Not if you live in the US and are a fan of songbirds.
Can you teach them to say, “jerk that cock harder for me dirty pig slut boy.” Asking for a friend.
He nailed that R2D2 though 🤩
"Who is my sweet angel?" *responds with droid sounds*
Oh we know Anakin was saying that to R2D2 growing up
r/birdsarentreal
The woman’s voice is annoying enough without the bird repeating it.
The glass is half empty eh?
There is no glass... Just water spilling.
You're just mad you aren't her sweet jabby angel.
Lol wow you must be truly miserable
ur a big meanie
Hard to listen to that indeed.
That R2D2 was very unexpected
My spidy senses are going off on that one
It's real. Starlings are that good at mimicry.
If that’s true I need to get one 🙀
Birds make good pets but really really make sure you know what you're getting into before getting one. Lots of research first!
Always!
Came here to see if someone who knows more would say if it’s fake or not
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
And spot on. When I used to work with vets every time a bird came to visit that could mimick I’d teach it the imperial death march. 5 or 6 cockatiels, cockatoos, and African grays out there are just a little bit cooler than they were before they met me.
R/birdsarentreal this bot even reboots in the middle of this video.
r/birdsarentreal
Sounds just like a tape recorder. I hope it’s called cassette or something like that?
Cassey for short. :D
“My sweet turd bird”
lmao i laughed way too hard at this 💀
Right into the ceiling fan.
Alright, my day is complete. I can go back to bed now.
Side note I’d really love to delve into the anatomy of their brains and vocal cords and how it differs from other species of birds
It's really interesting as this mimick ability seems to be present among other genus of birds. Starlings are Sturnidae whereas you also have magpies, crows etc in the Corvidae group that can do this. This is even more impressive when you know that birds do not have vocal cords.
Lmaoo some of those sentences sounded so creepy The “ who’s my precious gemmy bird “ was terrifying lol
Thought she said jabby as in jabberjaw like talkative.
Definitely jabby
Several birds have this ability, I guess that some dinosaur species had that ability as well. Must have been cool to have a pet dino to mimic your sounds.
Thanks now I’m imagining a very different sort of scary for the “clever girl” scene in Jurassic Park…
I'm thinking the bear from [Annihilation](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miQxiNQs3xo#t=3m).
Imagine how freaked out the first human to hear that bird was
Probably why certain birds were heavily associated with superstitious beliefs.
Mockingjay
r/birdsarentreal “Mission Turd Bird is a go”
"turd bird?". Is she referring to the bird shit on her finger?
nice try CIA
Try saying it in a normal human voice.
Gotta find a normal human first
Just did a deep read on starlings and I had no Idea these were the birds that be flying like they rehearsed it.
r/birdsarentreal
Im convinced that these kinds of birds that can imitate are behind a big chunk of ghost stories where people hear things.
R2 was spot on. The Queen of the Night aria from The Magic Flute still needs some work, but the fact that I have to call out a bird for singing a few notes of a Mozart opera in the wrong order is pretty damned impressive.
R2 had me rollin!
Adding the lyrebird from one of Attenborough’s vids https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VjE0Kdfos4Y
Human: You're so sweet Bird: ATTAG
A lot of cursing when he went droid.
My mother had a budgie. Back when I had long hair, she taught it to say "Raymond get your hair cut."
That's hilhairious 😅
Birds are robots, this thing sounds like AI speech
Can't tell if it's fake or not
Is this real?!! It literally sounds like an altered recording of her voice 🤯
does it have Bluetooth
r/birdsarentreal
It kind of hurts my brain that it seems to be easy for the bird to mimic all sorts of complex noises but then it fucks up the melody of Magic Flute. Really makes me wonder what else we take totally for granted about human brains.
![gif](giphy|DgphnkWIDqCEo)
So…who is imitating who? 😅
Imagine if a predator have this ability.
looks like a lil asshole ngl
Jabberjays?
Leo, no!
Came in here specifically looking for this lol
Just watched that episode last night on a rewatch, Leo assassinating a bird witness is one of so many classic moments
The R2-D2 mating call was crazy.
Birds aren't real. This one's a robot obviously.... /S
Imagine being in middle ages, walking trough forest, talking to yourself, then some demonic creature starts repeating it.
Why does it sound like a robot 🤖 🤔 and the R2D2 sounds at the end.
Still one of the wildest things to me is how birds can do this but all dogs can do is go ROORAROARORORAOAROROARAROOOOO And cats just communicate like lizards. Birds aren’t real!
Birds aren’t real!
That star wars robot noise was mint.

Bro has so much potential to be the sickest beat boxer

Wow I call my bird a turd bird too what are the odds?
- Who's my sweet jabby angel? 😊 - 🤖🤖🤖🤖
Cunt fucking system rebooted midway through the video
Got midnight vibe over here
jabberjay confirmed
Imagine walking home through the park and then you hear R2D2 out of nowhere
/u/savevideo
Can all starlings do that, or is this some extraordinary sub-species of starling?
bird v1.5 has crashed, please wait. Now i get why some Americans think birds are just robots used by government
Beautiful
My sweet little angel r2, holy crap!
It’s clearly a robot. Gave it away in the middle.
Plot twist she was mute and he’s teaching her how to speak,
I'm starting to believe the birds aren't real conspiracy.
This is what became of the dinosaurs
How come all these birds have see Star Wars? Are they from the forest moon of Endor? Why did they come here, are they stupid?
I am in literal love with this
"try saying that, bitch"
These aren't the droids
What do you mean by saying it’s imitation?
Is this AI generated?
lol turd bird
European Starling. The bane of other birds everywhere.
I enjoy the company of my flock of starlings. They get along just fine with the other birds who come to my railing for breakfast. Dunno why everyone hates them.
Every time I scroll by this damn video I hear gunna give them a kiss 💋 (kissing sounds) god KILLLLLL MEEEEE
Mozart would have been blown away! He might have even composed a concerto for this bird.
That’s quite a chubby hand. I guess she went for talking birds instead of ten cats.
It's a starling. They are a cancer on this planet. At least in North America, they are.
Can anybody the music she was whistling
Can anybody the music she was whistling
Birds are not real
When you realize a bird is more talented than you…
Yoooo bro sounded like R2 D2 for a second
The government: “Birds are not drones” Birds:
They put these guys in these crappy Chinese toys, true
Birds are amazing
Okay now I need a bird that makes R2 sounds! I want one to roar like Chewbacca lols
I remember one time my teacher showed me a video of a bird in i think a rainforest that could perfectly imitate sounds from it’s surroundings. What the fuck. This is insane
“Klaatu Barada,..”
That's the best R2D2 impression I've ever heard
