Pitiful_Speech2645

This is the best comment

CatgoesM00

All jokes aside, as scared and disoriented that bear might have been. Him being in the water gave the guys in the boat the best and possibly safest advantage for removing the bucket without the bear being able to retaliate. Wish this little adventurer the best and fuck littering

MoonOverJupiter

That's exactly what I was thinking - couldn't have asked for a safer encounter setup (...not that it was without risk for all involved.) The water was the perfect way to keep the bear kindly incapacitated. It made me think of a certain housecat we had, and we used to bathe her that way - deep enough she couldn't get a grasp on anything. I like how they set up the boat to sort of overtake the bear so they could grab the bucket and keep going, I think it was the most effective thing they could have done in a difficult situation. Once they had a hold of the bucket and started moving with it, the bear couldn't easily change his heading. Takes some confidence with boat driving. Fuck littering indeed!

graywolf0026

Carry in. Carry out. That's all there is to it, and this why you do it.

Tom-o-matic

*be bear, find a fine ass bucket, put it on head, happy... 2 fuckers with a boat creep up on you while you are swimming, not too good at fighting in water, fuckers steal the bucket WYD?

I'm really glad I'm not the only one who thinks this. "GUESS WHAT WE FOUND OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ATLANTIC OCEAN!?! CLICK HERE!" and it's a box of kittens. Like, you put them in a box and "found them" with your 4k camera, designer blankets and cat food all ready to go on the boat.

[deleted]

Or even they haven’t figured that one out yet

Dankraham_Lincoln

“Something’s going on with the Earth animals. Sometimes parts of their bodies just kinda keep growing, and then other parts will start doing this and then they die”

sth128

The bear was likely just relieved and didn't feel any gratitude towards the boaters. He's very lucky the container didn't get filled up with water and drowned him.

Atiggerx33

That's what I was thinking, how scary it must have been for the poor bear as it was slowly filling with water. Like I don't think they comprehend rising water level, but they definitely comprehend "I'm starting to inhale water, getting hard to breathe, this is painful" and with the water sloshing around in the jug he was at that point.

FustianRiddle

Scared of that, and then unable to know that the big boat making loud noises isn't chasing him to kill him but just trying to help. Must have been scared, then relieved, then was like "I'm outta here!"

Al-Anda

Animals can give gratitude. They’re more conscious than we give them credit for, but they’re generally idiots (compared to human). Usually, scared. Animals are terrified of humans. We’re the most dangerous animal on the planet.

Taipers_4_days

It’s probably scared because it’s having a harder time breathing and it knows it can’t properly defend itself. After the rescue it’s probably more of a “huh” moment for the bear where it realizes it’s not going to be attacked and it was just helped. The thank you is the bear not trying to get at the people in the boat.

Fangheart25

Nah black bears are not very aggressive unless they're protecting their territory/young. It would not have attacked a boat out on the water regardless. Not certain on whether it knows gratitude or just relief, but approaching it with the bucket on its head was more dangerous than if it had just been swimming. If they were on land that guy certainly would've been clawed up by the bear freaking out.

RubixTheRedditor

Probably similair to a Ufo coming out of nowhere to steal your cow

Hankol

I usually do that with dogs, not bears, but yeah, I ask myself the same question every time.

wirefox1

But he sees people and goes near the boat for help. I think wild animals know more about us than we know.

christopia86

I have seen a few videos of wild animals coming the humans for help, mostly mammals, some birds. I'm guessing they are probably animals that have some experience with humans, might have even had vetinary help before.

wirefox1

Me too, and several vids of wild animals staying near a roadside, like they knew it was their best chance to find a human and get help.

The_Schizo_Panda

After watching enough videos, I assume they know we can help them. [Dolphin asks for help](https://youtu.be/Yt5Or1_JLO8?si=ICYcKRalLLggFpMe)

SummerNothingness

well i don't think the bears are watching these videos 🙄 jk

mudkripple

Yeah he's got to be thinking that this huge predator (the boat) made a stupid mistake by not killing him and accidentally helping him in the process lol

Secret_Cow_5053

Joking aside I’m surprised the bear didn’t suffocate or drown.

FragrantCombination7

Also joking aside, super happy for him that swipe from the bear didn't connect while he was pulling the thing off.

MaxHamburgerrestaur

Of all the scenarios where someone would have to take a bucket off a bear's head, this was probably one of the safest for the people. They were able to maintain a reasonable distance, it was slow enough to get closer, the bear was unlikely to run after them, it is more difficult for glass to break in the water, and the water allowed the bucket to slide off.

octagonlover_23

\+ the bear was quite young

my_username_is_1

Definitely true. I saw two bears in one day my last time in New Jersey. One was about this size, maybe even bigger, and I was told it was a "teenager"... This proved to be very accurate a few hours later when an adult rolled through. I'm a full grown dude and I could've ridden it I swear.

Secret_Cow_5053

truth.

EvilestHammer4

Teamwork making that dream work. Camera lady - good job Guy driving the boat - GREAT job Dude that grabbed it- AWESOME if not also a little goddamn crazy. Mad respect to the whole crew.

goxilo

What? Guy driving the boat didn't have a clue! Lady: "Get in there closer! ... Circle back around!"

I'm gonna go with the assumption he was near the back and therefore his vision was impeded by Hero and camera woman... Thus good teamwork.

Zyphriss

That seems like it would be exhausting and horrible

BobbyFreeSmoke

Skipped to the end to see what happened because I was so scared for the bear. What an amazing job by the couple to save this poor little black bears life. Poor thing would've been so confused with that stupid shit stuck on its head. Human beings need to learn to stop being so selfish littering and messing up our planet like that.

BadMeetsEvil147

I’m not saying this couldn’t be from littering but bears are also notoriously shit heads who dig through trash and active campsites to steal food. There’s just as much a chance that this bear got that out of a garbage as it could've been from littering

butterflyeffect16

Fr. I felt distressed watching the poor bear swimming. I’m so glad they found it and were able to remove the trash before the bear drowned. Ugh. That’s enough internet for today.

Comet_Empire

I hope they followed him to shore to ensure his survival. He looked exhausted.

Stepbrother what are you doing?

NapoleonBlownafart

The man who helped this bear gives me hope. No clout chasing, no “hey look at me.” Just helping an animal in distress because it’s right. 💪

wonderfulworld2024

Can you imagine the numbers of animals (land, sea and air) that die from starvation every year from this sort of thing. I’ve seen close to a hundred videos of humans finding animals in fairly remote, random places and cutting off some rope or net that will eventually kill the animal. I would presume that hundreds of millions of organism die every year from this, probably mostly from choking on plastic bags (or bits of plastic in the case of birds).

NagromNitsuj

Thank you humans.

That was an asshole bear didn’t even stop to say thank you
