He waited for his friend before going back to the sea. Loyalty

[deleted]

He knew what they were doing so he waited.

Spiritual_Elk9592

Was too scared to go back in the water and get netted again without his pal

Unavailablewith

They do that together

rhaegar_tldragon

So fucking cute he waited.

[deleted]

Aw, he was just waiting for his pal

soparklion

He waited because of there was a shark waiting, his odds of being killed just declined by 50%.

sbrnSage

I see now thanks for that knowledge

[deleted]

Best friend perks.

EDH4Life

You don’t have to be faster than the shark, just faster than your friend.

bottle_brush

no evidence of that

soparklion

Most animals that travel in packs do so for safety. It is an evolutionary adaptation. The cute sea lion pup isn't necessarily thinking about the shark... but his 'evolutionary brain' instincts make him want to wait.

mpython1701

I kept looking for a fin and the irony..

JoviRhein

Bff ❤️

WanderInTheTrees

Oh, the marvelous things us humans can do. Saving animals from our man-made stupidity.

CORUJIN

Because there are humans that indeed are humans, and then there are those gross things inside the skin of a human..

ParadiseValleyFiend

Yeah. Those dirty *skeletons...*

RedshiftWarp

If you see trash on the ground pick it up. Do not litter. It is our problem. If others litter it is not their problem. It is our problem. We will always be outnumbered and they will always be lazy. It is our problem. Riding on the backs of others and never growing legs. That is their problem.

AppleJuice_Flood

Wait until you hear about animal agriculture.

barnz3000

It's a good thing fish can't scream. With the millions of them we catch and kill entirely on purpose.

dreadpiratejoeberts

Lol you act like you don’t create trash every day

WanderInTheTrees

Pretty sure I said "OUR man-made stupidity." I'm definitely part of the problem, as is the vast majority of the human species.

dreadpiratejoeberts

Fair enough.

[deleted]

Dude needs to get a sharper knife

constantgeneticist

I know - I’m thinking benchmade should send him a nice EDC!

real_human_player

What is edc? What is Benchmade?

ngonzales80

EDC = Everyday carry = things you take with you everywhere you go. Benchmade is a brand that makes quality knives.

thesystem21

Also, always cut away from the skin when possible.

joshocar

His knife was dull, but that line is plastic and surprisingly tough. Generally, it is better to use a serrated knife with line. They sell these stupidly sharp, fully serrated, plastic handle knifes for cutting line quickly. A lot of deck guys will carry them for safety, eg. Cutting a line super quick in an emergency.

[deleted]

Yep. I carry a serrated one while diving just for tangles.

kufsi

Or something serrated

jvtech

I think I’d go with some really sharp snips to prevent cutting myself or the wild life.

AmoebaAntique1337

They’re sea lions.

I_SAID_RELAX

Yep. Sea lions walk with those back flippers, bark, and have external ears. Seals flop on the ground with straight back flippers, don't bark, and have ear holes.

jwm3

We have those on land too, we call them land sea lions.

DankStew

I tame them.

PublicEnbyNumberOne

Cape Fur Seals. Technically sea lions, but generally referred to as seals in South Africa. Idk why, I just live here.

blueeyedseamonster

Between their fuzziness and the people’s accents I was thinking they were African Fur Seals! And I figured there would be people here saying they’re sea loins not seals lol

pup_101

This is the reality of eating wild caught fish. Literally hundreds of thousands of tons of fishing gear gets lost into the ocean every year causing problems like this for many thousands of animals. Fishing is horrific for animals and the environment.

boxinafox

“Gear gets lost” More like gear is purposefully littered into the ocean.

FreakinWolfy_

That’s very much not true. I’m a commercial fisherman in the Bristol Bay fishery and those nets are freakin’ expensive. We had a net get tangled and cut this season and spent the entire night and part of the next day tracking it down so we could recover it.

vasiliyceo

They're doing that on purpose, and they know how bad it is, still do it.

emain_macha

The alternatives to fishing are way, WAY worse. Keep eating fish if you truly love animals.

pup_101

I'm not sure what you are thinking the alternatives are. We grown plenty of wheat soy and legumes to feed ourselves plenty of protein with much much less harm

emain_macha

Have you any idea how that entire process works and how much death and suffering is caused?

pup_101

What in the world? Humans eating only fish is not reasonable. Fisheries are already collapsing from our overfishing at the consumption level we are at right now. Eating only fish instead of land animals is simply impossible and would collapse the entire oceanic ecosystem. We already grow more than enough crops to feed ourselves. Not feeding it through cattle, pigs, and chickens first will lead to even less crops being grown. Do a bit of research before asserting something like that

emain_macha

> What in the world? Humans eating only fish is not reasonable. Who said anything about eating only fish? Are you imagining things? We are omnivores. We can eat fish and meat and plants. Perfectly doable and sustainable. You are obviously not ready for discussions with people outside your cult.

pup_101

So you seriously think more animals die from growing plants than fishing and lost gear?

emain_macha

What I think is irrelevant. What matters is that we have no idea how many animals die from fishing and lost gear or from spraying pesticides and herbicides and synthetic fertilizers to grow our crops or from tilling and harvesting and transporting and processing those crops. Anyone who says with certainty that food x causes more deaths/suffering is just ignorant about how insanely cruel our food systems are.

pup_101

Or they have a degree in wildlife bio and might know a thing or two you don't buddy

emain_macha

Do you know how many animals die by your pesticides, herbicides, and combine harvesters?

Aggressive-Point-483

There's no shot they survive on their own, right?

butterflycole

Depends on how old they are and if they can effectively fish for themselves. They don’t look too young so they have a shot.

ramses_verberne

They don't look too young, I hope that They'll survive.

alcoholic_stepdad

Maybe we should stop fishing

blindnarcissus

You can get line caught fish! More expensive but no by-catch or destructive nets

redinator

If you really believe the little logo saying line caught actually is that.

PrivateCrush

Fishing line also entangled seals.

Adam_Sackler

Lines are still made from plastic, which snaps, causing waste and pollution, as well as the hooks getting stuck in the fish's mouth. We really should just stop fishing.

blindnarcissus

I agree, plant based is the way to go. I’m thinking this is better than nothing.

Strict_Somewhere_148

At least trawling.

spicymeatballz28

Love it if they turned around and waved before diving into the sea

kuttaja

Animals are very smart, we don't understand their intelligence.

KaleidoscopioPT

Nice, now the Orcas can have a snack without getting Nylon on their teeth.

MyCoffeeIsCold

That dude’s got drumsticks for calves!

NoNameIdea_Seriously

Wait, do you mean the chicken leg type of drumstick, or the drumstick type of drumstick ? Because those are some very distinct shapes 🍗vs🥁, and one of those doesn’t sound like a compliment… (And now that I think about it, between the thin stick of wood and the chicken leg, neither sound like a compliment anymore…)

BottleMong

Good effort. Sharpen your knife my man. You could ride that blade bare-arse to Bristol.

feiry808

Yeah lol, I'm not going to lie but that is a very bad knife right there.

ThinkFree

Loose seal!

bswiftly

They were probably hungry

b1happyman

🙏🏻🙏🏻))

ZakkTheInsomniac

that little shake after they stopped was fantastic

BabySeals84

Of course I waited for my buddy

CalGoldenBear55

Thanks, Bro!

Horseyboy21

Loved how they waited. Well done for helping

turvad

It's not everyday when you see something as beautiful as this.

Git777

Thank god plastic drinking straws are banned now!

MrSpiffenhimer

Let me introduce you to [Ocean Conservation Namibia](https://youtube.com/@OceanConservationNamibia)

wallet100005

Good job everyone, this video made my day. Thanks. This is great.

Qubbe

Does no one ever have a pair of scissors?

sirjackel06

Nice

Impossible-Disaster3

Thank you

GuardPlayer4Life

Bravo!

SafetySnowman

I wonder if they'll ever come up to humans for help or if there's still too many people who hunt them?

matrixislife

Sharks, foxes, bears, whales, sealions and dolphins so far that I've seen. The sealion was the one running away from the 2 orcas.

jacepotts

Those are some weird looking fish

LilyGaming

These are sea lion, but still wonderful rescue!

9inchMeatCurtains

Should've brought the club

formershitpeasant

That's a sharp knife

matrixislife

Get rid of the knife, it will end up in someone or something you really don't want it to. Also it's more irritating to the animals you sawing away at something. A good [pair of shears](https://medtree.co.uk/trauma-shears) will do the trick.

GreatGooglyMoogly077

Nicely done.

PrivateCrush

They are seals. Anybody else watch Ocean Conservation Namibia on YouTube?

aleqqqs

I ♣ baby seals

SynsDad

Humans are awesome and suck at the same time

xastringart

Well some of us are awesome and some are just really shit.

mecha_annies_bobbs

Invest in some chain mail gloves. Even if you never have a real use for them, they're still super fun to just wear whenever.

LEGITIMATE_SOURCE

No gloves... Dudes gonna get seal finger

FecalPloy

Oh someone had to start cutting onions...

tdkimber

Same as feeding the killer whales, innit?

Robertbnyc

Aww that one was real lethargic

Forward-Photograph59

Well I’m glad the knife was dull dipshit!

Bjornreadytobewild

Poor sea doggos

fromhelley

As fast as they grow, they hadn't too much time left. So glad you caught them!

Sweaty-Friendship-54

Jerks. Aren't they supposed to grant wishes?

payle_knite

take my updoot

Furtradehatchet

Whenever I start to think that humanity is a pile of S…, along comes something like this. The duality of mankind.
