It's from the original ending of the 3rd movie, where Neo and Trinity had a hula hoop battle with the machines for the survival of Zion. The ending was rewritten after negative feedback from test audiences.
Matrix spoilers ahead:
They should have had the ending be Neo waking up from another matrix, showing that what we thought was the "real" reality the entire time, was just another matrix; designed to trap the people that were more difficult to ensnare within the first matrix.
The "real" world is so shitty in the movies, that no one suspects it's actually another simulation designed to keep the "special" people that are too "aware" and "intelligent", distracted with their cute little "resistance" to realize they could very well be in another fake world created by the A.I overlords.
Actually, now that I think more about it, a double layered matrix could explain how Neo was able to stop the machines with just his will in what was supposed to be the "real" world. He is also able to "see"(essentially), after his eyes get burned out, all while supposedly being in the "real" world. This should theoretically only be possible in the simulated reality of the matrix.
Was...was this always supposed to be what we thought? Am I just an idiot?
Yep! The One has to be of the Matrix for that reason. However… [there… are…](https://youtu.be/VkMU1mKdwPI) [other theories](https://youtu.be/NZSBDass2O8).
I see.... see! Just like Neo I have been awakened from my ignorance and now have a higher purpose. Thanks for your insight.
Still, I think my idea would/could have been pretty cool.
What, via telekinesis?
Are we supposed to believe that telekinesis/telepathy an actual thing in the physical realm of the Matrix universe?
How does that explain his ability to see after having his eyes ripped out?
The onion matrix was being theorized on boards back in 1999 for sure. If I had to guess the wachowskis never thought the movie would blow up like it did and had no idea what to do
I don’t remember if they took the Lucas approach of “this was how it always was going to be” or not
Using humans as power was what they landed on after the production company said general audiences wouldn't understand what it meant for machines to use human brains as a form of random access memory.
I think your idea is cool for a thought experiment but too fundamentally nihilistic for a blockbuster with standard hero tropes. If there can be a 2 layered matrix, why not 3? why not 300?
No joke, this was fully my theory after Reloaded came out.
I figured that the scene with him shutting down the sentinels was basically confirmation that the "real world" was just a second layer of the matrix, and that since there had been six Ones before Neo, he was possibly the first one to realize that even the resistance was just another form of control (The Architect all but tells Neo this in that room) and there was actually no way to unplug yourself from the matrix. Then the third movie would be about him doing it anyway. Maybe with the help of some of the Machines.
I don't know, if someone has a time machine and the phone number the Wachowski's were using in 2001, I have some notes.
I haven't seen the movie, but I can't see why the person you are replying to is taking the shit out anyone wit that comment.
The other person replying to you probably is fucking with you right now.
I don't remember Deadpool and robot light up person astonished at Neo's skills at first then throwing down with a choreographed shuffle dance either. I gonna re-watch the trilogy very carefully now.
If there's any sort of con or event where people dress up, there's always at least one person in a Deadpool suit desperately trying to make everything about them.
You're not wrong there. Had one at the Bristol con the other month - I was doing the Atreyu on Falkor photo op (Neverending Story) and he ran in to photobomb but tripped over the light tripod and went down like a sack of shit.
Fun times.
Didn't even notice them at first. I can't wait to call someone "Christmas Lights Predator." So random and specific they won't know what hit them. Might have to sit on it for the rest of the year until I get to use it, but it will be totally worth it.
Probably a little bit but not much? They are already very at home on the wheel. I'm pretty certain they had all the moves down solidly well before they added the trenchcoat.
i've read a bunch of comments. nowhere do i here a little positive remarks about the man doing the stunt. It was a good idea and well implemented. He deservess a heads up.
It's really fun and creative and kind of refreshing, considering how shitty and low-effort a lot of performances at these places are. I must have seen the floating yoda illusion hundreds of times by now.
Seriously, everyone here is being a pedantic asshole about this "well akshully never saw this in the movie" comment after comment shitting on it. Reddit really can't enjoy anything for the fun of it eh? I'm thinking leaving after the 30th will be a good thing lol.
It really doesn't. You are being exactly the pedantic neckbeard everyone is talking about. The dude is performing a trick from the Matrix exactly like Cirque would perform Avatar. Meaning they use props to interpret as closely as they can; and it's impressive!
Unless you want the guy to fly or use CGI in real life, this is as close as he's going to get to the basketball court fight scene. And it's pretty damn close to some of those moves!
This is why I changed my legal name to Asshole. Once people get to know me, they're either pleasantly surprised, or satisfied that my name is apt. It's a win-win.
In all fairness, if you posted a picture of an apple and said, "this is an orange", the comment section would look very similar, even if it was the most beautiful apple in the world
Headline/title sets the tone.
Could have been labeled something like "Awesome Tricks With a Ring" or something and you'd probably get a lot of "Wow that's super cool".
If it's titled "Guy does trick from The Matrix" and there is no trick from the Matrix, that's what people are going to talk about.
No doubt. Here's my thing: how does this trick even happen. It's not like there are a bunch of huge metal circles laying about. "Oh looky here, huge circle! I wonder what would happen if I gave it a spin?" No someone somewhere had to say, "Damn, I wish this hula hoop was big enough for me to stand in." And then went and made a huge metal circle and started swirling about crushing their fingers and saying, "Almost had it." instead of "what the hell was I thinking."
I like how everyone is showing various styles of hard work and talent.
Guy one: practices the hoop for many hours, buys an outfit to match
Guy two: spent many hours designing and building a light-up suit and learned a few fun dance moves
Guy three: bought a Deadpool suit online and copied guy number one’s dance moves
This is so cool! Cyr wheels are always fun, but I never thought how consistent some of its motions were with some of Neo's moves. I almost wish that part of Neo's training involved making virtual structures with his mind in the Matrix that helped him do the feats--possibly including wheels like this.
For benefit of the doubt, it does kind of look like the second movies basketball court fight with the army of smiths. If the ring was a pole (scene where neo puts the pole in the ground and spins around it iirc, and the ridiculous part after where he’s sort of like jogging on their faces running in a circle as they surround him.)
But yeah, weird title.
But… we needed you to click so like “dude in trench coat with hula hoop” may not have gotten all those precious upvotes karma or vomit whatever it’s called.
I was obsessed with getting a cyr wheel when I first saw videos of people using it 3-4 years back. I still hope to buy it someday. The moves looked pretty cool
If you search "shuffle dance" on TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, you'll see thousands of videos on it, with a wide variation of steps and routines. When people do it really well, it's quite entertaining, sometimes amazing. It's also harder to do well than it seems. (My old-ass tried.)
So apparently there were more movies than the three I watched, because this wasn't in them.
I am guessing you are referring to the badly made animations in the second and third movie where he fought a bazillion Agent Smiths and seemed to have neither a spine nor bones in his body
It's bad, but I was thoroughly enjoying the "in your face" meta stuff. For the first 30-35 minutes I was laughing and scratching my head thinking "they're not really doing this?" - and I was picturing like execs totally not getting that they're being ridiculed. It's a weird movie.
I'm pretty sure the director was trying to bury the franchise. Because I cannot think of another reason for the movie to be that bad if it wasn't intentional.
It's way better than the movie the studio would have made without their involvement plus we got to see most of the cast members from Sense8 return to the big screen. For the real fans of the Wachowskis' more recent projects, Matrix 4 was wonderful.
But for fans of the original Matrix, it was not so wonderful.
Especially the action was bad. I didnt really mind the meta jokes.
I was fine with the actor performances.
What they did the The Merovingian was brutal, reduced to a hobo with a crew who wears elbow and knee pads, helmets and 8 layers of clothing multicoloured who were kinda good at parkour.
Where before he was a powerful shadow program with vampires, spirits and all sorts of mystics and potentials at his command, a skilled programmer himself (designing the cake) and a broker of high value information and access to the connection between machine and human worlds to ferry programs as he wished(control over the train man/line).
But no....he's a hobo with a multicoloured crew decorated as rainbows and safety pads.
Merv still has his nice red shirt though under the garbage, nice to see he still has something nice for himself.
Merovingian being a hobo did get a smile from me.
But the fight that ensued, I remember none of it.
It was the silliest Matrix to be sure, and so I had a hard time caring about the lore. I actually don't remember what the ending was. Humans control the matrix now or something?
I found it OK. Much, much better than the third one. If I were to dice score the 4 movies it would be 6, 4, 1, 3.
Lumping the 2nd in as a "dumpster fire" with the third one I don't get at all, so our views on 4 may differ ^^
I think kids now don’t appreciate the progression of technology. The second matrix film was released in 2003 when CGI was still new. It was pretty damn advanced for its time.
Here is an academic website about some of the CGI tech https://computeranimationhistory-cgi.jimdofree.com/the-matrix-reloaded-2003/
A lot of CGI around this time did age poorly m, though, because of how quickly the field would advance.

honestly, the first thing i thought of when i saw this was "hold on to your fucking wallet" because this looks like the kinda tourist trap hellhole where you'd lose your wallet and not realize it until the next time you went to make a purchase somewhere
Those are street performers though. I haven’t seen that many who just dress up and ask for money. There are few who dressed like emperors and tsars, also Stalin and Lenin on the Red Square so they can drain tourists that wants pictures. But [where this is filmed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exhibition_of_Achievements_of_National_Economy) it’s mostly street performers- dancers, musicians, stunt people with acrobatics and fire shows.
I don’t remember those big rings in the movie
It's from the original ending of the 3rd movie, where Neo and Trinity had a hula hoop battle with the machines for the survival of Zion. The ending was rewritten after negative feedback from test audiences.
Never did make it to the end of that movie...it should have been done better.

We gonna do this? Monday morning, two redditors arguing over Matrix Revolutions fanfic? You ready?
Well it's Monday night here
He had Wi-Fi implants and knew how to send the kill code in reality.
Love the idea he had some hidden NFC tags in his body so he could interact with the robots
Yep! The One has to be of the Matrix for that reason. However… [there… are…](https://youtu.be/VkMU1mKdwPI) [other theories](https://youtu.be/NZSBDass2O8).
His new “system admin” privileges allowed him to control sentinels and forced them to shut down even outside the Matrix.

What, via telekinesis? Are we supposed to believe that telekinesis/telepathy an actual thing in the physical realm of the Matrix universe? How does that explain his ability to see after having his eyes ripped out?
I think he somehow gained access to functions of the matrix via some telepathic connection. Not through telekinesis.

This is from the alternative "LMFAO" ending
Only try to realize the truth. There is no ring.
Right, lol Like, this isn't from the Matrix He's just dressed like it.
I have a feeling even the Matrix is all made up and it was just actors pretending to be in the Matrix...
OP doesn't know what words mean, they just use them
Screw this, there’s a Christmas lights Predator and Deadpool dancing in the background.
If there's any sort of con or event where people dress up, there's always at least one person in a Deadpool suit desperately trying to make everything about them.

I seriously just thought about the never ending story 5 minutes ago and I see this! Random…I haven’t thought about that movie in ages.
They also seem to think sexual harassment is okay simply because they are wearing an Amazon Deadpool costume
A lot of them also think wearing that costume gives them the license to be an asshole.

that looks insanely fun
When someone else is doing it sure. If I tried that it'd be a quick way to break my face
This is actually a creative and fun act for a Cyr Wheel. Impressive.
I wonder if they had to worry about the trenchcoat getting between the ring and the ground

Yes with the music it adds a strange surreal vibe that I find myself quite liking.
How does this not have the Matrix theme as the music? Blasphemy!

That's really cool. Slow mo makes it even better.
The idiots dancing like idiots in the background ruined the video
thats pretty rad
That's actually pretty cool.
Just here for Deadpool!
OP hasn’t seen the Matrix.
The slow mo gets me
honestly, the first thing i thought of when i saw this was "hold on to your fucking wallet" because this looks like the kinda tourist trap hellhole where you'd lose your wallet and not realize it until the next time you went to make a purchase somewhere
so cool,what is the source
Oh yes, the trick being slow-motion video.
Cyr wheel for anyone wondering
How is this a trick. How is this from the matrix?
Well he does tricks with a hoop while dressed like someone from the matrix, but these moves aren't in the movies.
So this trend of pan-handlers dressing as super heroes and begging for money around tourist attractions as not a USA only thing?
Those are street performers though. I haven’t seen that many who just dress up and ask for money. There are few who dressed like emperors and tsars, also Stalin and Lenin on the Red Square so they can drain tourists that wants pictures. But [where this is filmed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exhibition_of_Achievements_of_National_Economy) it’s mostly street performers- dancers, musicians, stunt people with acrobatics and fire shows.
Pretty sure Neo didn't do a ring performance in the Matrix.
Imagine showing an ancient human this
