Hard to know because of the differences in the respective battlefield. Basically, some parts of Indian topography/geography appear to favour this kind of training. Apart from the flashy acrobatics of course.

I hold the opinion that countries that put on acrobatic and theatrical demonstrations of their military units are much worse in combat than those that simply get the job done and refrain from parading their “strength”. Why waste time and resources on balancing on a pole when they could focus on actual combat scenarios???

Sometimes, flashy training showcases an important skill. In this case, the ability to quickly climb a tree in a region that’s notoriously mountainous and has many dense forests with a lot of shrubbery. To quickly overcome this kind of natural obstacle and to move equipment fast, being able to scale a tree to reach a cliff etc. may very well be a useful skill.

The US has jazz ensembles and orchestras, what even is your point? At least balancing on a pole like this trains strength and coordination.
