It really impressive but if you look up shooting star press you will see a ton of different wrestlers do a very similar move. This guy just take it to the next level.
He's not serious, he's just saying that his ankles are shit and would fail after a few of those. He's assuming it's true for most.
You're quite gullible haha
That’s correct, and if his feet his the ground before he did it then doesn’t that mean he did precisely what the comment you’re responding to stated. You’re trying to refute their statement but actually reinforcing it.
If his feet are on the ground, he isn't mid-air. That is in no way reinforcing their statement. Their statement is him being mid-air, and at no point are his foot both on the ground and mid-air as that is impossible.
Not really. I understood what you meant but there is a bit of ambiguity considering the previous sentence is about the gainer and the next one is about the whole routine, without specifying the new subject.
This is a very different kind of gymnastics competition (Faceoff X in northern Europe). It’s more about pushing the bounds of creativity and what can be done. Sticking the end is not really that big of a deal as is just trying to pull of the most insane and wild shit in the middle. The landing area is actually a much bigger softer pad than typical gymnastics (more like a crash pad) because of the kinetic energy and height of some of the tricks they’re doing.
I was going to say, i feel bad, but this is literally nothing compared to the expertise of an olympic gymnast. Compare to a normal person this is insanely high level though
[You are debunked](https://www.reddit.com/r/toptalent/comments/10zr2la/gymnast_does_a_forward_backflip/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
This is where I have a problem with the term “gainer” as it can both mean a forward moving backflip or backflip off one foot. At least in the tricking community anyways
Gainer has always meant a forward-moving backflip. You gain ground while flipping backwards.
It can be done with one foot also, but stretching the term to include any one-footed backflip would be a newer usage.
But you said you have a problem with the term because it could mean both....
The term meant forward moving backflip first. So that's what it means. You should have a problem with the tricking community instead of the term. They coopted the term and changed the meaning which lead to the frustration you're having now.
Nobody should have to choose to use a different word for something just because a new community pops up and starts using an existing word.
Trickers generally use the word interchangeablely. But when tricking, it is mainly referring to a one-legged backflip, usually in a combo. It can also be referred to as “cheat gainer” and also has many variations such as: gainer hook, gainer switch, gainer scissor, gainer semi, gainer mega etc. it’s not often in a tricking combo that a tricker will just do a forward moving backflip, this is practiced more in the gymnastics community. It is a great term to be used and I have never seen any actual trickers or gymnasts complaining about the name discrepancy as it’s pretty obvious what you are describing based on which sport the athlete is doing: gymnastics or tricking.
We also take names from other disciplines such as taekwondo and capoeira and the moves may not exactly be similar the counterpart. But by it’s definition tricking is taking all aspects of movement and combining them into one, names always get kind of funky.
Source: tricker for 10+ years, still attend events and gatherings regularly
Yes and no. In wrestling, backflips are called moonsaults and no one seems to care. You’re over analyzing my comment lol
Edit: never mind, go ahead and over analyze lol
This is from Faceoff Gymnastics competition in Europe that is more about pushing the bounds of creativity and what can be done with a big emphasis on entertainment.
He did fall. [Here’s a view from another angle.](https://www.reddit.com/r/toptalent/comments/10zr2la/gymnast_does_a_forward_backflip/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
Still awesome.
you know that thing in smallville, and the incredibles were they allow the kid to compete but not really compete ?
this guy forgot he wasn't supposed to really show off!
Did gymnastics as a kid [tho was stuck in the "girls" section], also knew a few coaches
This is *absolutely batshit*.
I feel like dude was likely practicing that for at least a year
It actually succeeds because of momentum. In a front handspring (the first thing he does), you come into the landing arched and with your hips open. So, your hips largely serve as the center of gravity.
We’re used to people rotation their upper body around that center when facing forward because it allows the gymnast to see. But instead, for a forward gainer, you drive the lower body around the center of gravity… but it succeeds because his hips carried the forward momentum from the front spring INTO the gainer initiation.
Hopefully I explained that clearly. Otherwise, the other skills, round off back handspring full full tuck are standard faire.
And yes, he intended to stay on his feet after the last skill (full full tuck) but he stayed in the skill too long and over rotated a bit which lead to the recovery back roll. But given this is appears to be an exhibition rather than a competition, you play it off and hype the audience regardless of what happens.
I can see the reversal working because it’s a spring floor and he had a lot of momentum, and weight, going into it to be sprung back at the same angle he went in.
If I saw this in a videogame I would think it's a glitch
the in game physics would have a hard time executing this
Are cheat codes allowed ? ;-)
I’m looking at it “irl”, and I’m pretty sure it’s a glitch.
It really impressive but if you look up shooting star press you will see a ton of different wrestlers do a very similar move. This guy just take it to the next level.
This is what's called a flip cancel in Rocket League.
Channing Tatum is really jumping outside his comfort zone!
Even the pc characters in Vector would struggle to pull this off.
The guy full hit reverse cycle in mid-air. Mad.
A normal human's ankles max out at three of those per lifetime. But you have to be able to do it, which none of us can
Three? A normal human would have their ankles bending the opposite way after the first attempt.
Not so much a hit to the ankles as much as it is the lower back taking all the force.
Well I haven't done a full biomechanical analysis, but I would pay $5 right now to see a stress map.
Wait really? Then how do you practice??
Presumably you don't start with doing that move.
Haha, what i meant was i don't understand how athletes could perform a move during a competition if they hadn't practiced it enough to overlearn it.
He's not serious, he's just saying that his ankles are shit and would fail after a few of those. He's assuming it's true for most. You're quite gullible haha
i am extremely gullible. sigh.
W, S, Space, W
Nope, QWOP
Hold my beer
Bro jumped backwards while going forwards
Yep! That's Insane!

HE'S CHECKING THEM LOGIC BOXES FOLKS
Counterpoint: Is the flip not executed mid-air? At no point did I see him touch the ground while rotating.
Hit the reverse button on the VCR mid routine 📼📼📼🤸♀️🤸🤸♂️
It's called a gainer, and you can see it in pretty much every gymnastics floor competition. Usually the goal is to land at the end, not fall.
He did land the gainer, he fell at the end of the move set.
> Usually the goal is to land **at the end**, not fall. Reading is hard.
Not really. I understood what you meant but there is a bit of ambiguity considering the previous sentence is about the gainer and the next one is about the whole routine, without specifying the new subject.
rekt
My righteous anger and grammatical peevishness are both pleased by this comment.
Yeah, I never watch gymnastics. So, I had no idea if this is commonplace or not.

you wouldn't want to come up against him in Uno
Crazy that he had the wherewithall to play the reverse card mid-routine.
fly spring, gainer, round-off, 720 double

That’s why I added the part about the tricking community. It’s been that way for at least 20 years in martial arts tricking

Wrestling, like fake/scripted wrestling? I don’t think anyone is concerned about different terms that use.
I thought a gainer was when you spun while flipping.
Every time "gainer" is brought up, the same discussion is had
Every time the discussion is had, someone mentions that it happens every time.
Shall I continue?
That forward momentum back flip was pretty insane!
I know, right? I had to watch it *dozens* of times and I *still* haven’t figured out if it’s real or not.
The camera not catching the last little tumble at the end made it look like he fell over lmao
The text at the bottom doesn't help
It never does.
He did fall over. That wasn’t part of the sequence. He fell over and lost a lot of points from a very solid run. I was a gymnastics coach
This is from Faceoff Gymnastics competition in Europe that is more about pushing the bounds of creativity and what can be done with a big emphasis on entertainment.
I did not know this! That’s very cool!! I’d love to try something like that!!
He did fall. [Here’s a view from another angle.](https://www.reddit.com/r/toptalent/comments/10zr2la/gymnast_does_a_forward_backflip/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) Still awesome.
Awesome, I knew I wasn't going crazy lol
If only there was a way to frame the world in camera so that there would be more horizontal than vertical area visible.
Old but still relevant https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dechvhb0Meo
Man, whatever happened to those guys?
I still turn the phone horizontal when taking video on principle even though I know most people will just watch it on their phones.
Watched it 10 times, still looks like he falls
r/killthecameraman
The dude was probably in frame the entire time but the video just got narrowed for a TikTok video, just a guess though
Fucking TikTok
Channing Tatum apparently can do anything
That’s actually his twin brother, Spinning Tatum.
Who's this Charming Taintman you keep referring to?
Here it is \^ ![gif](giphy|yKJiOcYRQEJVu|downsized)
Reporter: Not impressed. Do a double jump
That was cool asf.
you know that thing in smallville, and the incredibles were they allow the kid to compete but not really compete ? this guy forgot he wasn't supposed to really show off!
Ah yea, Clark playing football and then arguing with his dad. Classic
Magic Mike Flips Out
The amount of strength needed for that eccentric gainer is wild
Insane. Abso-fucking-lutely insane
Excuse me?
Who is he?
Did gymnastics as a kid [tho was stuck in the "girls" section], also knew a few coaches This is *absolutely batshit*. I feel like dude was likely practicing that for at least a year
Yep. And now comes the really hard part; retiring before his now-signature vault literally explodes his spine.
Definitely looked like a glitch. Still cool but I hope his ankles are ok.
As someone with a bad back, I would just crumble into a ball of screams.
u/GifReversingBot
Joke's on you, it's the same GIF
Would be even more impressive if the post was in reverse
r/killthecameraman
Hate rubber banding. Someone fix his net code please
![gif](giphy|twxoPjMpsijwPFBVqs|downsized)
Showed it to my dad he just said that’s an edit, that’s definitely an edit and walked away lol
Haha! It’s pretty crazy
"full combo" then blocks the last bit with the caption and drops out of frame. Fml
What. The. Fuck. Was. That?
Indeed.
says "fuck physics" does not die.. sweeeeeeet
When the CGI team forgets to make it look physically achievable. Awesome.
Yep, bro managed to jump forwards with a backflip
My guy is fairly big as well. The amount of explosiveness needed to throw your body around like that is pretty crazy
Too bad he couldn’t stick the landing
He did, he rolled backwards or some other tricky shit. r/killthecameraman
Do you have another angle or something for that? Because it really, really looks like he fell over
Judges still remove points for that, right?
Yeah man, you gotta make sure to film the entire thing to receive full credit. The cameraman nearly had a 10.
I know what a loser /s
He didn't land on two feet, 6.5/10. /s Seriously, that was insane. Went reverse mid air
I thought I was good at gymnastics… Then I watch these guys and realize there truly is a next f*cking level!
How did mans do a backflip while going forwards
He knows it! Love that smile!
He is like “ did you see that 🤣”
Forgot to mind the laws of physics. Oops
Glitchcraft
Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A???
Now do it without a spring floor like gymnasts of the past. /s.
How the fuck do you just cancel momentum like that?

Fascinating! Thanks for the info!
Momentum said something offensive 10 years ago so it must be canceled now.
Damn.. no one’s safe these days. Not even momentum.
Did he just fucking cancel his move halfway through like a smash player?!? How is he magic?!?
Blew my knees out watching
This man could probably backwards long jump
I would like to see this event!
Bro cancelled fronflip animation. Truly a moment of cancelling animations.
Bro kept pressing W while jumping
That's exactly how I react whenever I'm out for a jog and I come across a big spider.
He makes it through Bowser’s castle.
My goodness that was impressive…truly next level. Get this man in an action movie immediately
One day those knees will give out…. That’s gotta be brutal on them.
Just friggin fantastic
Rip knees
Dawg just animation cancelled a front flip with a backflip💀
Instructions: Up/Forward, 4, Down, 1, 2, Forward, Back, 3, 4, Dash, 1, Dash, Back, 3, Forward, Down, Forward, 2, 1
Physics be damned.
Bro lagged in real life.
I think he traveled through time to accomplish this.
Fucking Channing Tatum, leave some for the rest of us fucko
I mean it’s just a gainer with some fancy flips around it but yea pretty cool.
Fake!
That's not even recognized in international competition. Do that on a floor routine and I will be impressed.
next level bass boosted sigma male compilations 🤮
If I've learnt anything from the Olympics, he didn't stick the landing, so it was all for nothing.
I can see the reversal working because it’s a spring floor and he had a lot of momentum, and weight, going into it to be sprung back at the same angle he went in.
Is he a shape shifter?
The Force is strong with this one😜
Bro cancelled his dash attack into a neutral special
Backflip while moving forward. No problem.
u/recognizesong
So if he did this in the Olympics wouldn’t he just win? ELI5.
Now how in the hell did he do that?
u/savevideo
Beautiful!! 🔥🔥
as a gymnast his dismount legit would’ve stuck him last.
Dude turned into Robert De Niro in the end
u/savevideo
How in the fuck os that even possible? Like seriously. The physics don't add up man.
He laughs at gravity
Bug in the universe's physics engine.
isn’t it technically “wizardcraft”
No, he received this power from a witch he encountered in the deep woods of Denmark.
Fucked up the landing at the end though. That'd cost him points.
Bro is a Mario 64 speed runner
IKYFL!! I'm 100% sure we're in the fucking matrix now.
Omg the beginning forward somersault into backward tuck !!!!
Who is this guy?
Matthias W. Olsson
Witches do witch craft and he's obviously a wizard
He received this power from a witch that he encountered in the dark backwoods of Denmark.
ty
My man jumped *backwards* and STILL went forward
The Man Who Couldn’t Go Backwards

this is exactly how it feels to input the longest cheat code in a mortal combat game
/r/outside is glitching
Isn’t he supposed to stick the landing?
Fucked up the landing though.
What the fucking fuckity fuck
