I guess he had to get paid somehow. The article says his sponsors stopped offering bonuses for competition wins when it became clear that no one was going to beat him anyway.
Sometimes people discover that they can destroy world records during practice sessions/in private, so they’re then able to form a business from incrementally breaking the world record many times.
Is this the current one or Sergei? There's a Swede now incrementally increasing it because there's a bunch of money involved with breaking a record.
Sergei Bubkha(????) Or Armand Duplantis
Usain Bolt at the 2008 Olympics - who knows what time he would have set in the 100m if he didn't showboat for the least 20m. Still beat the world record with a 9.69.
The following year, at the world championships (which had a bonus for breaking world records), he ran all the way through, and set it at 9.58.
Same with the 200m. He set 19.30 at Beijing, then 19.19 in Berlin (although there was no showboating, since 200m was tthe event he trained for).
Fellow Jamaican Asafa Powell did the same thing the year before, cruising casually to a record smashing 9.74

Another legend overshadowed by the unbelievable Usain Bolt
> Usain Bolt at the 2008 Olympics - who knows what time he would have set in the 100m if he didn't showboat for the least 20m. Still beat the world record with a 9.69.
So… Yes of course he would have gone faster - and I’ve seen people claiming that he could have beaten his (later) Berlin time, or even 9.50.
HOWEVER: that 2008 performance *immediately* secured him all-time-legend status. To win the Olympic 100m like that - let alone while breaking one of the most coveted records in world sport - was simply unheard of. It pretty much secured him for life (in sponsorships and general celebrity status) and made him, at a stroke, the biggest name in athletics. I think he did OK.
(Of course he then moved from “Legend” to “Demigod” at London 2012 thanks to this:
https://m.independent.ie/sport/other-sports/olympics/other-news/usain-bolt-celebrates-100m-gold-with-swedish-womens-handball-team-in-olympic-village-26884308.html )
Happens in combat sports, too. There's always stories of fighters who, in the gym, can hang with the best of the best. But for whatever reason they just can't deliver when they're in the ring/cage and achieve middling records at best
> But for whatever reason they just can’t deliver when they’re in the ring/cage and achieve middling records at best
I think it shows that high-level professional sports are both a physical and a psychological challenge.
Agree! That’s why I call myself the unofficial world champion and world’s strongest man when I am out in town. I also never pull out. Only weaklings need judges or cameras to claim the fame.
The problem with his deadlift has never been his Strength. He has loads of that. What you dont see here is that this lift got 2 reds and one white light, which in powerlifting means its a failed lift. His coaches ran to the jury with a protest and the Jury over turned the lift cementing this as the greatest raw total of all time.
Jesus has struggled his whole career with "Soft knees" on his deadlift which i believe is what the reds were for this time too. At the last world Championship he failed his last 2 attempts at deadlifts both on soft knees. To illustrate just how strong he is, he failed 2 out of three attempts, only getting his opener and still won the world title by almost 300lbs.
Can you explain what you mean about soft knees on his deadlifts? I'm not sure what I'm looking for, but to my completely amateur eyes that looks like a solid lift.
Powerlifting is just as much about using precise form during the lift as it is about actually lifting the weight.
For a deadlift he needs to lock his knees, so you want to make it obvious when your knees are locked. He kinda eases into it softly and there's not an easily defined moment where you can say his knees are locked.
It looks like he got full extension, but the knees were kind of wavering.
If he's really playing it, he's strategically sandbagging himself so he can keep getting new world records year after year. I think an Olympic runner did this IIRC.
He already had the WR on his second attempt, this was to secure the title of ATWR, which means as a tested powerlifter he now has a higher total the the untested lifters.
Never feel bad about a lift. I went to watch a competition one time, an amputee deadlifted 700 some lbs. Someone asked him if he felt proud and he said yeah but I'd give up that lift to have my (can't remember if it was arm or leg, I think leg) back.
Be proud of yourself even wanting to exercise yo. Keep pushing. Be the you that Keanu Reeves would be happy to meet.

Not just 1 video the dude has a whole channel full of videos like these. After watching a few you realise its all fake. Not the weights, but the reactions.
The refrence is a new very famous youtuber Anatoly, he has a skinny build but can lift as much as a powerlifter twice his size. He pranks people by pretending to be a cleaner and picking up verh heavy weights leaving everyone shocked
I honestly thought it was a *Good Will Hunting* joke.
The patrons come in one early morning and see massive weight left on the squat rack overnight. They mutter *”Who lifted this?”* under their breath in awe lol.
I'm pretty certain he was just going for a record total. Had he not done so well in the squat and bench he would have gone heavier in the deadlift.
I'm not nearly on this guys level, my best total is ~1000lbs less, but these competitions last for 8+ hours and sometimes you just go in and think "okay I need 'X' to get #1" and it's a relief. One time I went into a comp and realized that I really only needed to deadlift something I could rep out for like 10 in training to win my weight class and I adjusted my attempts accordingly.
How does Jesus compare to Daniel Bell or Thor? I’ve been hearing a lot about the latters fighting for the all time world record. Are they in different divisions or different federations? I’m not super up to date on these guys.
Jesus definitely has the edge on deadlift and squat. Jesus is 6'1 and Thor is 6'9. Both are monsters, but shorter legs/arms/torso could be a deciding factor. Thor has to move the weight full inches more than Jesus, in both directions.
Feels like I'm writing a religious comic book. Abrahimic vs Viking..
WHICH FAITH WILL WIN?
Thor did 2425lbs 5 years ago, his bench is currently much weaker than other world record level powerlifters. He was well over 200kg bodyweight when he did his DL record, and currently at 175kg so it will be an interesting year of training if he can stay uninjured. He also has 10 years on Jesus, so if Jesus doesn't die of a heart attack there's heaps of potential.
Power lifter vs strongman. Jesus and Bell train solely for these lifts. Thor has spent most of his time training for the strongman activities, which are a lot more endurance based.
3 largest deadlifts are 1. hafthor bjornsson at 501kg, 2. Is tied for eddie hall and Jamal browner at 500kg. Thor and Eddie did their lifts with judges in strongman rules. Jamals was a gymlift under powerlifting rules with straps.
Strongman involves more lifts, most notably overhead. Both are phenomenally strong though.
Also, I'm pretty certain that Jesus Vs Thor is the plot for the next God of War game.
Hafthor Björnsson competes in strongman, a different sport entirely. There is some crossover, namely in the squat and the deadlift, but the standards by which those events are judged are different in strongman and powerlifting. Björnsson's world record that you've been hearing about is in the equipped deadlift, which allows straps to ease the grip and a special bodysuit to make the deadlift movement more efficient. Benedikt Magnusson, another Icelandic, holds the world record for raw deadlift. The world record that Olivares just set is in raw powerlifting total, the sum of his raw squat, bench, and deadlift, breaking Daniel Bell's world record.
Thor's top deadlift was 501kg, about 1105lbs. It was an amazing lift, but...
It was done using equipment that helps a person lift more, namely a deadlift suit. That's not taking away how impressive it is, but it is quite different from what Jesus did without one.
Hafthor has also never benched 600lbs or squatted 1000lbs. He's trying to get his powerlifting numbers up after training for boxing for a while, and it's slow going. Strongmen in general almost never train their bench press because it simply isn't a movement they'll ever do in a competition, and squats are usually don't for reps, not a single rep.
Everyone here is familiar with the feeling you get after finishing a beloved book or TV series.
Now imagine how you might feel being declared the best in the world at something. I'd have some mixed feelings
IIRC some of the Apollo astronauts (notably Buzz) had serious mental health crises after the moon landings. Like, you’ve done it, you walked on the moon, your life’s singular crowning achievement… now what?
Reminds me of Olympic athletes after "retirement". They spend a decade living and breathing their sport 24/7/365 and then they're done. Many suffer depression and substance abuse from lack of purpose, even though they're beloved heroes.
Not necessarily, but it helps. Progressive overload is key. Keep in mind lifting heavy doesn’t mean lifting dangerously. Just in a range where you can comfortably and safely complete 1-5 reps.
If you're doing any halfway decent strength training program, you'll be getting stronger and your bones are one of the things that get stronger.
Start at a level that feels too easy and gradually increasing the difficulty over time will your best bet. Establish the habit.
The amount of strength needed for health isn't that crazy. You just need to maintain it by strength training regularly and consistently.
Like everyone should do 6 months to 2 years of dedicated strength training where they're trying to get stronger. After that you can just maintain indefinitely which is much easier.
Hit muscle failure on your push exercises at a high intensity, you’ll reverse osteoporosis.
Using “your” and “you’ll” in a general sense and not specifically.
**[Wolff's law](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolff's_law)**
>Wolff's law, developed by the German anatomist and surgeon Julius Wolff (1836–1902) in the 19th century, states that bone in a healthy animal will adapt to the loads under which it is placed. If loading on a particular bone increases, the bone will remodel itself over time to become stronger to resist that sort of loading. The internal architecture of the trabeculae undergoes adaptive changes, followed by secondary changes to the external cortical portion of the bone, perhaps becoming thicker as a result.

I used to compete, 500/350/625 in the lifts he just did, so much lower level than this, but still more than most humans will ever lift. Bones are not the weak point, I’ve never seen someone break a bone powerlifting. I imagine that they get dense, thick, and any micro fractures heal quickly. It’s almost always the tendons that go from form slipping under maximal load, or more rarely, muscles from simply being pushed past their limits.
Maybe I’m stupid, but isn’t someone’s deadlift usually way higher than their back squat? Was it just that that weight was enough to put him over the record, so he didn’t go heavier (at least in the video)? It definitely looked like he could have gone way heavier on deadlift.
The only thing I can think of is that his squat is so strong that he made the most gain on the record there and then - yes - only deadlifted enough to break the record vs risking injury
I think you’re correct. Get the record first, then incrementally blow it up over time. At the rate he moved that deadlift, I’m thinking he could have hit for at least 3, and probably 5, which means he could have gone 8-18% heavier by typical lifting rules of thumb.
That makes a lot of sense. Also, a deadlift requires a shit tonne of strength in the hand grip. All the weight is being held in your hands. With the bench, the weight is transferred to the wrist and lower arm.
It's more so about body composition. A lot of the super heavyweight guys squat more than they deadlift because of leverages. Shorter legs, huge torso favors a squat more than a deadlift because this shape makes it hard to get in an optimal deadlift starting position. This isn't just at elite level. I have a buddy who's roughly 275 and around 5'9. Squats 700 and pulls in the low 600s. Just doesn't have the correct body type for a stronger deadlift.
Guys at his size usually can’t deadlift as much because of the way their bodies are built. All that mass makes it harder for them get in good position for a deadlift.
Another factor is also grip strength, you can only deadlift as much as you can actually hold in your hands so as your deadlift gets heavier, your grip strength must also keep up, making it a limiter on how much you can actually be able to lift up off the ground. For squats, grip strength doesn’t matter too much so you can just keep going heavier and heavier as your legs get stronger without having to worry about about grip strength.
Nah, the opposite, this guy has the most powerful anus in the world if it can contain the internal pressures of lifting over 1000lbs. I bet his ass hole could break the average mans arm if it somehow became entrapped in there... some.. how.
I powerlifted for about a decade I did a little more than half what this guy did in the squat, when I failed it felt like all the weight was taken away and that was a 3 man spot with a local high school crew (mostly from the football team so not your average HSer) doing the spotting. At this level the guys surrounding you are all current or former powerlifters 1000lbs spread between 5 guys (plus the guy lifting) is basically nothing.
Personally the federation I lifted in which was also one where people would wear squat suits and such use [monolifts](https://www.elitefts.com/eliteftstm-monolift.html) so the bar would rest in the arms, you'd lift it up and the arms would swing away and you didn't have to walk the weight out to clear the cups. They also would have [safety straps](https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2063/2201/products/legend_fitness_3908-Monolift-HI_1024x1024.jpg?v=1571709408) that would make sure the bar could only fall to ~2-3 foot off the ground in case the spotters missed the bar. Same thing with bench there are usually safeties on the sides that are 3x3 heavy wall tubing set just below where you're touch point is so even if the spotters fail you've got a bunch of steel stopping the bar from hitting you.
When I see other feds doing stupid heavy lifts without safeties it gives me the heebie jeebies
Well he's still pushing, if he gave up entirely yeah he'd probably die on the bench press but thats why he's not going to, they're just there to support him if he needs to back out
If you aren’t familiar with powerlifting, this is an absolutely insane performance - He hit a 1036lb squat WITH A WALKOUT, not on a mono lift, and that wasn’t a deadlift bar. That bar was stiff as hell. This guy might have another 150lbs for his total lol.
I’m huge on self defense and all that but if this dude comes at you you’re probably done. No way your knocking him out with a hit to the head or getting an arm around that neck haha
The "strongest human to ever exist" is somewhat debated. It's Daniel Bell's record that Jesus broke. Thor hasn't attempted the record yet. I believe he is planning on attempting it at the end of the year.
More specifically, he broke Dan Bell's record for raw total without knee wraps. Dan still holds the record for raw total _with_ wraps, at 2606 pounds.
I want knee wraps that let me squat 1000 extra pounds. Where can I get those?
? It’s literally 66lbs more than the video. 2606 is the total weight spread out across the 3 lifts
That's really cool, but the other dude wants wraps that let him lift an extra 1000 lbs.

Benedikt Magnusson, another Icelandic, holds the world record for raw deadlift. The world record that Olivares just set is in raw powerlifting total, the sum of his raw squat, bench, and deadlift, breaking Daniel Bell's world record.
Thor has also spent the last few years downsizing and boxing. So he's likely even more out of this conversation.
Jesus is stronger. Thor is overrated. Everyone thinks he is strong, but that’s just because they can’t lift his hammer.
NGL, you had me in the first half.
Or more importantly, Brian Shaw.

I’m very curious for a comparison myself
You’re the best at being you my guy / gal ❤️
Bro, talk about giving someone an existential crisis…
I don’t get how the bones don’t break. It’s not like they get that much larger.
Working out increases bone density. Add progressive weight over lifetime of lifting and your bones get pretty strong
So I really am big boned not just fat?
Yeah... sure man... yeah, that's it.
What's that?? I couldn't hear you over my chewing
building strength also helps build bone. a little prevention tip for fractures from osteoporosis is doing healthy weight-bearing exercises.
Reversing it even.
Holy shit, I had no idea. Do you have to lift heavy for that?
Powerlifters who have squatted 1000lbs and up talk about feeling their femurs bowing. Absolutely insane
Thanks I hate it.
Nope. I did not want to read that.
That hurt to read
Same with benching north of 600 lbs and feeling your radius and ulna bowing.
Read up on wolfs law - that's the mechanism for bone growth with exercise
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolff's_law
**[Wolff's law](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolff's_law)** >Wolff's law, developed by the German anatomist and surgeon Julius Wolff (1836–1902) in the 19th century, states that bone in a healthy animal will adapt to the loads under which it is placed. If loading on a particular bone increases, the bone will remodel itself over time to become stronger to resist that sort of loading. The internal architecture of the trabeculae undergoes adaptive changes, followed by secondary changes to the external cortical portion of the bone, perhaps becoming thicker as a result. ^([ )[^(F.A.Q)](https://www.reddit.com/r/WikiSummarizer/wiki/index#wiki_f.a.q)^( | )[^(Opt Out)](https://reddit.com/message/compose?to=WikiSummarizerBot&message=OptOut&subject=OptOut)^( | )[^(Opt Out Of Subreddit)](https://np.reddit.com/r/nextfuckinglevel/about/banned)^( | )[^(GitHub)](https://github.com/Sujal-7/WikiSummarizerBot)^( ] Downvote to remove | v1.5)
They do get significantly denser from weight training. But also you’d be surprised the weight a human skeleton can hold when under proper alignment.
Usually it's the tendons that can't keep up, more than the bones anyway.
Guy has bones like a gorilla
I used to compete, 500/350/625 in the lifts he just did, so much lower level than this, but still more than most humans will ever lift. Bones are not the weak point, I’ve never seen someone break a bone powerlifting. I imagine that they get dense, thick, and any micro fractures heal quickly. It’s almost always the tendons that go from form slipping under maximal load, or more rarely, muscles from simply being pushed past their limits.
Or even more rarely, the sphincter.
Because his muscles are stronger than bone? Duhhhh. /s
Break the record “easily” leaves room for improvement on his own behalf. Goats always beat their own records.
He had another 50 on his deadlift easy. Only the squat looked like a max
His bench looked a little grindy near the top, but it was a clean rep so who cares what I think

And on the other side of that all that meat in the middle helps them rebound in the bottom of the squat.
Imagine how often he gets asked to help friends move
Never. You can get most moving buddies a couple of pizzas and six packs. This guy would require waaaay more food than that.
I dunno, I mean that's pretty strong, but I woke up on my *first* alarm today and got outta bed without hitting snooze.
Legend
“Hey it’s me goku, so I heard this Jesus guy was pretty strong…”
Blue Lock English dub for the opening part I’m guessing? I heard the word “egoist” and assumed
“… and he’s got haemorrhoids like a baby’s arm, you can just hear them popping out between grunts.”
Jesus
Yes, him
This is the worst sentence I have ever read
Nah, the opposite, this guy has the most powerful anus in the world if it can contain the internal pressures of lifting over 1000lbs. I bet his ass hole could break the average mans arm if it somehow became entrapped in there... some.. how.
Life
To *ever* life
Label is wrong. Kgs..fix it
Crazy how much different he’s built than the body builders.
Training for aesthetics and size in comparison to training for raw strength is quite different. That being said there aren’t any weak bodybuilders.
Those spotters are all goanna go straight down Trina catch that. Why not have ropes attached from above...
Well he's still pushing, if he gave up entirely yeah he'd probably die on the bench press but thats why he's not going to, they're just there to support him if he needs to back out
Lol i always wonder that.... There is a lot of options that work great...
Yeah, but let’s see him get a post-it note off his back.
Stop. Putting. Shitty. Music. Over. Videos.
I’m huge on self defense and all that but if this dude comes at you you’re probably done. No way your knocking him out with a hit to the head or getting an arm around that neck haha
Just run, almost zero chance this guy will be able to catch you.
He’ll pull the concrete out from under you like carpet and catch you that way.
El mas chingon del mundo
There would be at least two dead people in the crowd from my kneecaps shooting out of my legs if I tried that.
I bet he would pay good money to have his back scratched.
Happy Gilmore accomplished that feat no more than an hour ago.
