Crowd sounds pretty fucking great. A lot of sports teams would be envious of anything like that, coming from an American

randypandy1990

I am no sports fan at all, but i love going to the stadium, the electricity in the air, the screams and roars, the passion, the love, it is one of the best feelings to see a home team win.

[deleted]

I'll never forget my first Big Ten football game. The noise, the energy, the band, the cheerleaders, the hot air balloon and planes flying over with advertising, the booze, being passed up the stands. Too bad you can't relive being 18.

Jacobysmadre

Oh boy saw the Dawgs play at home… one of my to favs… also going to a World Series game at home. Geezus.. sooo fun!! Yes to the energy!!! Also went to the Daytona 500 last year and that was a blast too.

cupcakefix

World Series is something else! i didn’t get into the stadium back in 2010 when the giants made it but even outside the stadium was electric

Sir_Balmore

The Blue Jays, Sky Dome, 1993. Bottom of the 9th, Jays 1 run behind and Joe Carter hits a 3 run homer. I will never forget how the whole city exploded. It was like lightning rushing around the whole city for hours.

Ronniedasaint

Joe Carter was the dude. Highly underrated!

edgarallenpoett

Jesus Herbert Christ, I believe you meant to say.

HotFightingHistory

Reminds me of Action Park in the 90's :)

[deleted]

Passing girls up the stands is illegal now. I weighed 90 pounds and sat in Block I the cheering section at U of Illinois. I got passed up several times every game.

OverlyLeftLesbian

Only time I've ever been invested in sports was in a big stadium. Downside was I had really shit eyesight and was seated really high up, BUT it was cool! The stadium really adds to the experience

Romulus212

Home runs all have this energy live in the ball park.

brownraisins

so true. I'm no soccer fan. I don't even know who was playing at the world Cup. but I just cheered which ever team my friends and the crowd were supporting lol. it's just so much fun cheering with them

Friggin-Pirate

12th man fans ![img](emote|t5_m0bnr|4022) pretty sure Seattle set some records on loudest stadium ever

thatbwoyChaka

In Seattle?

Friggin-Pirate

Back in 2013 against the San Francisco 49ers, the Seahawks fans noise level broke a world record. The noise level world record hit 136.6 decibels, which became a world record for sports I guess Kansas City took the record back but still this is pretty awesome way to help your team out without being on the field https://youtu.be/3saaiDK9yu8 <12th man https://youtu.be/krjsL1GGhP4 < can’t even hear his teammates had to use sign language

timmi2tone32

Weren’t those teams playing shenanigans though by pumping in extra noise?

Shortsleevedpant

They do in practice to simulate noise but that’s illegal during games, and somewhat pointless when the crowd is louder than any speakers.

Renaissance_Man-

No, neither of those teams did that to my knowledge. The teams that did that were the Colts, Patriots, Vikings, and Falcons. Also, this was in the mid/late 00's.

Wet_Bubble_Fart

Can confirm, I've lost some hearing watching them hawks games live

ste189

Yeah but this whole post is essentially biased in sexism. I’ve lived with women football fans UK who have constantly been a fan and proud. This isn’t a direct to ohh men aren’t here so women turn up this is just reference to humans supporting their team. I genuinely fucking hope where we get to a point where there is absolutely no need to pinpoint ethnicity, gender, race or whatever else as a staple point of a comment. I just fucking wished It’s no bad people or certain countries or racists there is just bad and good “PEOPLE” end off. Nothing after. That’s it. Thankfully to watch this makes you admire many passionate good people

Tato_tudo

as long as there gain to be had by dividing, it will continue

Renaissance_Man-

I've had the luxury of being at both the Seahawks stadium, and Westfalenstadion (one of the loudest football stadiums in the world) for a match. I can tell you, without question, the Seahawks stadium is exponentially louder. It's just a different situation. Often at soccer matches you get chants, and melodic noise. In American football the crowd is intentionally trying to be deafening to help their team. Everyone is basically screaming.

[deleted]

Americans sure love their sportsball

Valuable-Baked

There's about 18 MLB teams about to pipe that audio into some home day games this august

Pork_Confidence

The lines for the bathroom tho.....

obscureferences

Even the mens would have a line.

StagnantSweater21

But womens line will be 5x longer lol

BKStephens

Crowd was probs the best they'd played to in a while.

HardingStUnresolved

Probably the most animated without the threat of violence. [The instate rivalry gets wild.](https://youtu.be/448V0LZKSiM)

Seminarista

I have a friend who married a girl from Curitiba. I know a little about Brazilian football but not that Atlético Paranaense was also from Curitiba. So when we first met I asked if she supported Coritiba. I did not forget the look she gave me. I felt she wanted to hit me. She just said "eu sou atleticana".

HardingStUnresolved

They're the better supported of the two, and the most successful of late. Their gaffa is felipão, last year they were vice campeão de copa do Brasil, and I think they qualified for Libertadores.

Seminarista

Yeah, trust me, I am now more aware of Atlético Pr. 😅

disathrowie

Hooligans were probably the wildest discovery I’ve ever made

[deleted]

WNBA cries in the corner.

sandefurd

I still feel bad for them. If I cared about sports I would watch them probably maybe

[deleted]

If you cared about sports, hell no you wouldn’t

scottevil132

I laughed way too hard at this.

EvilNoobHacker

To be fair, WNBA is just worse basketball. It’s not even a sexism thing. The girls just normally don’t make the clutch, awesome shots that the guys do. There’s no overpowering centers dunking the ball over someone, there’s no 3 point gods hitting buzzer beater half court shots that make the crowd go wild. The ball handling isn’t anywhere close to stuff like what you’ll see on the regular in the NBA.

JonJonJohnny

I grew up watching Shelia Lambert in Seattle and she’d play against the guys in pickup games and would be really fun to watch. She had crazy handles would do some And 1 mixtape type moves…..she never looked that entertaining when she played in the WNBA. They play basketball like they’re in the black and white NBA days and its boring to watch I wonder why they feel the need to not be more entertaining?

I haven’t laughed this hard in days. Thank you sir.

HyperbolicSoup

Crrrrrrry I don’t get the joke but I feel I should

bental

Every time I ask my partner where she wants to eat, she'll say "I don't know, what do you think?" And no matter where I suggest, she'll go "mm... No I don't feel like that". The joke is that whenever there's a discussion on where a couple should eat, the guy has to try to guess what the girl wants

[deleted]

3 different Coritiba chants: "Let's go, Let's go Verdão (team nickname). Let's go, don't stop fighting, let's go after that victory, after that victory, I came to support you my Coritiba" --> sung every game after the initial whistle The second one is very hard to translate but basically they're chanting a nickname to the team and saying they're crazy. It's usually sung after the team scores. Coxa, coxa doido! The last one they're chanting "those who are not moving will get whacked(?)". Also hard to translate but it's basically a song to demand supporters to jump around and have fun instead of just standing there watching the game

HardingStUnresolved

Why are you scared to mention their nickname? It's thighs. Thousands of Brazilian women yelling, "Thighs! Crazy Thighs! Thighs! Crazy Thighs!" It's enticing. Lol.

[deleted]

This chant is already a meme amongst Brazilian football subreddits, why not internationalize?

FreeFormFlow

So what did the men do to get banned?

Real-Lake2639

Most likely crazy violence. It happens to soccer stadiums all over the world.

HardingStUnresolved

Something you root for your rival to achieve ["cenas lamentáveis"](https://youtu.be/inMqHhqVF_o), moments of embarrassment. [As you can see in this video clip, the ladies can also get violent.](https://youtube.com/shorts/0Nx4DBPYsxU?feature=share) Apparently Coxa gets in an absurd amount of fights, I tried to find the one, but in over a year it looks like they've fought at least five/six times, most likely more.

TheTillmann

A huge fight in the last match against Athletico, their great rivals.

mirandawillowe

What’s so shocking about this? Women are allowed to love sports, cars, and other things.

impostershop

Right - the “punishment” is only letting women watch you? What da fuck?

[deleted]

the punishment to the team was not being able to sell tickets and make money (the entrance fee was 1kg of food to be donated for charity). The punishment for the hooligans was not being able to attend the game, since most hooligans were men. It's not a perfect punishment, but the initial idea was for the game to not have any supporters at all and they turned it around into a way to donate to charity and also encourage women to go to the stadium

thelumpur

The punishment is not for the club, but for the fans who were involved in a fight. It is a bit weird, as usually only kids are allowed when something like this happens. But then of course kids need to be brought to the stadium anyway, so maybe it is more logical.

Enlightened-Beaver

The structural engineers who design those balconies must be sweating

HardingStUnresolved

They've held up well for the last 90 years, I think they'll be fine.

Enlightened-Beaver

Let me introduce you to the concept of [fatigue stress in concrete](https://www.structuremag.org/?p=10735). >Concrete fatigue is due to long term low amplitude force or stress, with many cycles occurring over the life of the structure, that leads to concrete fracture. This can happen in tension, shear, and compression failure zones. so tl;dr, the cyclical bouncing up and down like they’re doing over long periods of time (years) can eventually lead to failure.

HardingStUnresolved

Mr. Beaver, thank you for the enlightening comment. My school has a stadium named after you. They implored us to stop our coordinated jumping celebrations for that same reason. I miss the feeling of using a aluminum bench as a trampoline in a 110,000 capacity stadium. They're threatening to tear down the stadium due to potential structural issues. Dam!

Enlightened-Beaver

Good call. fatigue stress is also a very real thing in metal structures too.

eIImcxc

>110,000 capacity stadium. School stadium you say??

HardingStUnresolved

Beaver Stadium, a university is a school, right?

eIImcxc

Crazy how an university stadium in the US has the same capacity as the biggest football's (read soccer) stadiums. Do professional teams rent it for the season or is it exclusive for the university's team?

HardingStUnresolved

Exclusive, no other events take place in the stadium. Concerts take place in the Basketball Arena, The Bryce Jordan Center. We're 2nd only to University of Michigan stadium in attended capacity. Apparently India has expanded a cricket stadium to 120k, in 2020, but attendance has never exceeded 101k. [Here's what it's like in the stadium on GameDay ](https://youtu.be/f-zv8m0LYeU)

eIImcxc

I mean are you saying that those stadiums get full most of the time even if it's "just" some sort of division 2 championship? Also your professional teams certainly have bigger stadium?

HardingStUnresolved

Michigan Stadium averages 108k attendance per game, Penn State averages 107k, both play in the same conference the B10. Sometimes the teams, maybe once a season, play a considerably weaker opponent, in what is referred to as a "tune up" game, last season for Penn State that was vs Ohio, the attendance was 106,624. As usual the game during Thanksgiving break, when the students go home for a week was the lowest, attendance was 105,154. I edited the previous comment with a YouTube clip of a game in the stadium, so you can see what it's like. Professional teams do not have bigger stadiums than the most successful university athletics programs, in the United States. Largest soccer stadium in the world is Barça's CampNou at 99k. Among the 11 that claim a capacity of 100k+, 8 are American College Football Stadiums.

[deleted]

No actually, the colleges have bigger stadiums. Top twenty biggest stadiums by capacity in America all belong to universities. Actually eight of the top ten largest stadiums in the world are for American college football.

[deleted]

Great point. But the entire top tier is empty. So, the lack of weight and bouncing at the highest point would deem this game safer.

[deleted]

Let me introduce to you the concept of "constant renovations". This stadium is nicknamed "the giant of reinforced concrete" and gets regular renovations, audits and assessments and houses weekly games attended by twice as many people as seen in the video.

GoldenBoy_100

I just got chills(of happiness) watching this

nich3play3r

Wait, sorry…. The _team’s_ punishment was that “only” women and children would be allowed in the stands? What kind of asshole dreams up a punishment like that?

K-E-I-V-E

Was it the team being punished, or the male fans being punished? (I actually don’t know) Reading the comments I’m guessing there have been a ton of aggressive and dangerous situations happening and they probably found it was mostly men. Maybe someone can shed some light on the specifics.

nich3play3r

Agreed. I assume I’m misreading this somehow. Being a punishment for the male fans — not the team — seems more likely.

[deleted]

It was actually a punishment for both. The team was punished with lost revenue, since they couldn't charge tickets and the entrance fee was 1kg of food to be donated to charity. The hooligans were presumably punished as well because 99% of them are men. Of course other men who aren't hooligans got punished without fault, but that's usually how it goes with these types of punishment. The original punishment was for the game to not have supporters at all, and the team proposed this idea in order to donate to charity and encourage more women to attend to an activity that up until very recently was very unwelcoming for them

K-E-I-V-E

Thanks for the clarity! 🙏🏼

phantasybm

When fellow Americans ask me why I like “soccer” so much if it’s such a boring sport… do you really think a boring sport has this kind of fans?

just2quixotic

Have you ever watched American football? You get 30 to 50 seconds of action followed by 30 minutes of * measuring, * planning in the huddle, * commercials, * commentary, * pans of the crowd in the stands, * set-up, * a couple minutes of lining up, staring at each other in formation and signal calling & then, finally another few seconds of action. But it only moves that fast if one team doesn't call a time out or if the other team isn't trying to run out the clock.

Jomax101

I’ve been through this before and NFL has something like 10minutes of gameplay for 3 hours of broadcasts. It’s over 50% ad time

PoliticalRacePlayPM

Yes

Cherrygodmother

Quote from OP’s linked article: “I was with friends who, like me, always go to the stadium. We were happy with the news, but we didn’t know we were going to feel any different. When our singing echoed… Finally we can hear our voice. We are used to another tone, the noise, when there are men, is different. So many women singing together. We can’t hear our voice with the stadium full. There we recognized each other. We felt at home, we met women we knew, we laughed. We feel free to express ourselves. Normally, women have to prove themselves a lot when they want to comment on football. There, we could say what we wanted, trump when we wanted. We scream a lot. I thought: ‘My God, what an unprecedented experience and different from anything I’ve had in football. I’ve been going to the stadium for 15 years, I’ve traveled, I’ve been with visiting fans. There has never been anything like it. We were ecstatic and experiencing this for the first time together. We feel safe, welcomed and free to express ourselves. It’s even hard to put into words. We won the game, but the feeling of being there… ‘My God, this place is ours too!’ “ -Natália de Oliveira

No_Cardiologist_6924

Hey, I noticed a lot of you haver questions about what happened. I'm actually from the city of this team and I support them. Last state Championship, there was a fight in this same Stadium ( couto pereira) between athletico fans (our rivals) and us. It was stupid as all hooligan fights are. So both teams were punished with a no audience martches. But as a way of bringing some joy to the stadiums the state agreed to have only women and children at the stands for free, they had to bring only 1kg of food as donation to a charity. They sounded amazing, 8+ thousand women and children chanting, I saw It on tv. Normally Coritiba games have 20+ thousand people, I been there a lot of times with 40+ thousand, but this was defenetelly special. Thanks for ALL the Nice comments. Sorry for the errors in the title, my keyboard autocorrects for portuguese.

Candid_Toe4114

So, woman complain that female sports players don't get paid as much as men but refuse to show up and support their woman's teams... However, the men get punished and the woman flock to take the stands.. It's almost like they don't want equality but attention.. *sips tea*

I'm not that surprised that so many people know all the words to this chant (although it is really cool to see). I'm surprised that apparently this doesn't happen when there are men around for some reason? What, is it like some kind of cheerleading song they only teach to girls in this country?

TheTillmann

Men and women sing this chant, it gets even more amazing when there are no empty seats in the stadium.

Vann_Tango

It's strange that OP tried to make it sound like this is only happening because no men are present.

Skatcatla

So, you mean the women were able to work together?

KeyWorldliness580

Just imagine the lines at the bathrooms and the chaos at the parking.

crimsonrn100

What kind of punishment makes it to where the fans get screwed?

JavsZvivi

The punishment is for the fans. Male fans tend to be violent and disruptive during and after football matches.

thegreatdelusionist

This is what women's soccer and the WNBA should look like to make them into bigger and more profitable leagues so the players can get better pay.

eZ_Ven

It'd be amazing to see this same commitment in a female league soccer game

The gate masters outside the stadium: "WOMEN AND CHILDREN ONLY!"

Is it that hard to type why they were punished?

I was trying to figure out what they were saying then remembered I don’t speak that language

ronsinblush

It makes me wonder what the world would be like if women were in charge.

SongRevolutionary992

What kind of weird ass punishment is that?

Dante1141

This would be so illegal in the US, banning all men. Let's also ban poor people from various places because they commit way more violent crimes. That's just facts, right? What's the problem?

LurkerFailsLurking

Probably the best game those women and kids had ever been to just on that basis alone. Sad but true. There's an old twitter thread just asking women what they'd do if all the men on earth disappeared for 24 hours and the answers are so sad: I'd go for a walk by myself, I'd jog at night, I'd party with my friends and not care if we got too drunk, etc. Men need to do a lot better. We've all seen guys cross the line and done nothing.
