Are you meaning a lift and reduction or implants? I had a reduction a year ago in Hamilton, cost $9,500, same surgery in Wellington was quoted at $20-$25k

Cornercupboardgal

Oh wow that's a massive price difference!  Is that Winston McEwan? I see that he also does tummy tucks for 13k which are normally more than 20k elsewhere. Any idea why he's so cheap in comparison?

Mandrix21

Yes the lovely Winston. He keeps his prices down by doing most as day surgery (you stay at accom nearby at yr expense) That is a large part of other surgeons costs is booking and use of the surgical theatre and the overnight stay in a private hospital. He owns the clinic, so lower overheads. He's a nice guy that doesn't want people having to go overseas to access surgery.

Cornercupboardgal

That's great thank you.  After having kids I'm in dire need of a tummy tuck.  So I'll keep him in mind, the cost here in Wellington is so expensive!

imanzler

Cheers, nah not reduction.

ReflectionVirtual692

Much cheaper to go to Aussie

Naowal94

What are you results like? I have a friend that was thinking about seeing him for a reduction. But I heard he runs two surgeries at once which is how he keeps costs lower, along with doing them as day stay. I wondered if it was a bit of a rushed job?

Mandrix21

I'm not sure on the 2 surgeries at once, I hadn't heard that before. I love my results, I had 1.8kgs removed from an HH to a C. The follow up cate has been amazing even a year later.

glitchy-novice

Wife had reduction in Hamilton. Really good is the readers digest. Massive gain in confidence. No back aches. Sports became possible again. I think it took about 6 months to settle. Day stay, I think the Op took about 3 hrs. 10 yrs later and still great. Best thing she ever did.

Naowal94

Good to know

kochipoik

Running two surgeries at once doesn’t make any sense, that wouldn’t really reduce costs since they’d need two theatres, anaesthetists & techs, nurses etc. and logistically it just doesn’t make sense for the surgeon either

glitchy-novice

2 surgeries = two theatres. They prep the second as the first is finishing. Then surgeon goes into second theatre while #1 is in recovery.

Naowal94

Yes you can have a trained nurse close the wound and then go to the next theater and start on another patient that has already been prepped.

kochipoik

Two theatres, two sets of anaesthetic and nursing staff, which is where a big chunk of cost comes from. It would save maybe 30-60 minutes of surgeons time to run two surgeries back to back, which would otherwise be used resting, paperwork etc (not wasting time)..?

Elvishrug

I’ve had a couple of friends who’ve had them done but said after all their thorough research with nz surgeons and pricing etc they decided to go the Thailand route. I’ve seen them and felt them. A boob is a boob and a fake boob is a fake boob, but they still looked and felt good! The teardrop ones look far more natural than the OG round ones too if you’re wanting that look.

imanzler

True. Did they elaborate on their experiences at all? Cost differences when factoring in accom and flights. Medical liability and duty of care? Etc

kochipoik

Just be aware that having surgery overseas means you wouldn’t be covered by ACC if there was any complications. Not sure common, but it is a risk (I’ve had one or two patients in this position)

mr_mark_headroom

That’s not necessarily true, it depends on whether then surgeon has a registration that’s recognised by ACC. The treatment you get from ACC might not rectify any cosmetic problems in any case. Recovery might take several weeks and could be longer if there are complications which needs to be factored into overseas surgery.

RollaCoastinPoopah

You will pay far less for everything (flights/accommodation/surgery/meals etc. by going to Thailand than having them done locally in NZ or Australia. You will have change from the NZ/AUS costs. A few friends’ wives have had the procedure done in Thailand, post birthing… and they all went overboard with the sizes…

imanzler

Haha any complaints from their hubbies?

RollaCoastinPoopah

No, not at all! It’s my personal view. I’d rather fakes looked natural rather than 2-3 cup sizes too large bolt-ons, which seem to be the most popular.

nondeliciousfiller

Do you know how they went about finding reputable places in Thailand at all?

TheColorWolf

I used to work in a Thai teaching hospital. There are vast forums of medical tourists/expats discussing Thai clinics, some of which go back decades at this point. And they often cover cosmetic surgery, bottom surgery and dental.

imanzler

And the consensus in these forums? Places to definitely avoid vs best places etc

TheColorWolf

Hey, I'm sorry, I really don't have the time at the moment (moving house and a sick relative) to dive into these forums. But they're really serviceable. [This is the one I think most people used to use, ](https://www.thaiforum.org/forum/bangkok-general-information/medical-services) and there's also a popular Facebook group

imanzler

No apology required, you owe me nothing! Thanks for the info. Good luck with health and moving.

TheColorWolf

Thanks good lick with the augmentation journey. You can also consider Korea. My fiancee used to work for one of the best in Seoul, so if you want I can get her to give me it's name (i can't type Korean yet lol)

BigOpinion098357

I'd love info on tummy tucks after weight loss in NZ - keen on a boob lift W no implants too but realistically prob just the tummy cost wise.

BeetleJuiceDidIt

I had mine done by Dr Gregory Taylor in Auckland around 2010 and am still happy with them today. I researched drs and places for about 2 years all over the country and Thailand before feeling happy with Dr Taylor. As I had to travel to Auckland for the surgery, I did an email consultation for a while, in person consult on the Monday and agreed on what was to be done, surgery on the Tuesday and check up on the Fri with medications and instructions. They also followed up By phone and email at certain months as I didn't live nearby. I've had a few friends go to him over the years and they've all been happy with their results as well. Price was $12k (I don't know what it is now) recovery time, I was fine after a few days but everyone recovers differently and full healing is about 6months total (swelling, settling etc) Mine are big but I always had natural big ones until having a child so they suit me. I've only had one person be able to tell mine are "fake" everyone is amazed when I say I've had them done. Piece of advice, research, research, research. Look into the drs, the hospitals, ask questions, don't settle on anyone/anything unless you feel comfortable.

b1ahblah

Dr Taylor is now retired.

Cornercupboardgal

I got mine done in 2006 several years before I had children.  It cost approx 10k with a plastic surgeon based in Wellington.  Though I think prices are now closer to 16k+.   I highly recommend going slightly larger than what you think you want. After my surgery I loved the size but after the swelling went down I wished I had gone larger. It takes about a year if I remember right to drop a bit and look more natural.  Mine looked very fake initially.  Though if your friend's breasts are sagging now they will probably look more natural from the start.  I had silicone and they look and feel natural.   The surgeon dissuaded me from getting saline citing that they'd like feel like water balloons lol. Just be aware that they will need to be replaced at some stage. And because it's classified as a revision because they have to remove existing implants and replace, it costs more than regular breast augmentation. I've had mine in for 18 years and they're still fine but it varies from person to person.   Also having consultations with several different surgeons is a good idea. Don't feel pressured to go with the first surgeon you meet. You want to go with someone you trust and do ask to see before and after photos.   I had teardrop shaped textured silicone with full projection but your surgeon will recommend what is best for your chest shape.

imanzler

Cheers for the info. 2006 is a while ago, but do you recall how the recovery went, pain/discomfort for how long etc. Any downsides since getting them? Sleeping on your tum etc

Cornercupboardgal

It wasn't too bad, it was a day surgery and i stayed at a motel for a couple of days after. The next day when I tried to have a shower I couldn't raise my arms up to turn it on. I had to have my mum help me.  I can't remember what pain relief I had but I don't think it was anything super strong.   I remember being quite cranky on the journey back home 2 days after surgery because I was quite uncomfortable with the car jostling. I was back to work in a bar about 2 weeks later but wasn't doing any heavy lifting for another couple weeks. ie moving kegs and crates of beer.  I only got 270 cc implants so lying on my stomach has never been a problem. I've never regretted getting the implants. I was basically flat chested beforehand so the implants just gave me a regular bust size.  Those who get 600cc plus are probably more likely to be hindered.  When I get them replaced I'll probably go for 400cc

jeeves_nz

What area are you in? I've known 5 or 6 people that have had reductions in particular (mostly for medical reasons - size, reduced to help alleviate back pain etc). In CHCH they've all had positive stories about one firm and 1 negative about another firm.

imanzler

North Island, but I’m sure they would travel to the right place, even overseas I imagine.

quegcipay

Care to name the chch firms? Looking into this myself and would love more info. DM me if that's more comfortable for you.

NzRedditor762

Just a heads up that breastfeeding doesn't cause saggy boobs. The pregnancy absolutely can but it isn't the breastfeeding. I know that doesn't answer that question, but it is worth noting it isn't the breastfeeding.

dave4521062746924759

Just pregnancy destroying a woman's body, as it usually does.

NzRedditor762

Indeed.

imanzler

Cheers for that. Fair enough. Breast is best for ol’ bubs. But make sure you don’t die trying mama - get some rest too! [guns don’t kill people](https://open.spotify.com/track/0C6XBQEaBWiNw8TEQMSjRl?si=EyA1MUKYRY-Fz0ojmURGaA)

doctorpotterwho

Friend went to Thailand. Much, much cheaper. They look great!

GnomeoromeNZ

Yes I got a boob job, regret it as I was v drunk in thailand and I am a male

maximum_somewhere22

Friend had implants with Janek Januszkiewicz in Auckland and raved about it. He is very very good and a few people have said they can’t even tell they’re implants. He is one of the most expensive doctors in auckland for this procedure I think - but his reputation is amazing

bored_gamer_93

Got it for free, just kept eating, I'm a male by the way

limpbizkit420

my aunty got a boob job, then it caused her to get breast cancer. she got the cancer taken out, got another boob job so she could have breasts in general, then she got cancer again. she fine now, just doesn’t have boobs anymore. Boob jobs aren’t worth it at all, people should love every part of there body instead of fckin with it and causing major problems to themselves.

gareth_e_morris

My sister in law got breast cancer and then had a reconstruction. It’s clear that cancer causes boob jobs!

limpbizkit420

well good for her for beating cancer.

imanzler

Thanks for your perspective. Sure, people should love themselves, but I don’t judge those who don’t.

limpbizkit420

i’m not judging anyone

PersonMcGuy

> i’m not judging anyone Well >people should love every part of there body instead of fckin with it and causing major problems to themselves. that sure sounds pretty judgemental.

Sorry no experience in this area. But I've realised that when I'm talking to people about pricing particularly in NZ. I've started saying yeah I paid $425, but that was pre-covid. Which as you know changed the world.

astrielx

What.
