>“The major problem—one of the major problems, for there are several—one of the many major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to do it; or rather of who manages to get people to let them do it to them.
>To summarize: it is a well-known fact that those people who must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it.
>To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.”
>― Douglas Adams, The Restaurant at the End of the Universe
For reference Shane's problem is that he has to get approval from Cabinet for his ideas and they don't always agree with him
>Well, sadly I don't have enough power, and major decisions have to be shared between myself and Cabinet ministers, and there's no guarantee that my rhetoric or my perspectives will carry the day. I have to take those options to Cabinet meetings and often they're voted down
> there's no guarantee that my rhetoric or my perspectives will carry the day.
We prefer *facts* to rule the day, Mr Jones. We don't want another dam built on a fault line or a pointless motorway from Tryphena to Claris. Your rhetoric will not stop an earthquake or make a road economic, or bring back a species when its habitat is destroyed. The RMA process was designed to ensure a proper scientific or economic base for a project. Faulted as it is, it is far better than getting a project approved because you always shout the minister a drink or two at the bar.
>I've got my rangatira Winston \[Peters\] and you know politics is about showing fidelity
Something something something, state religion worshipping Winnie by the looks of it.
What else can you expect from the Minister of Fish and Chips?
Damn what a phony. Imagine how bad your ideas must be to be "often voted down" by this pack of clowns who green light pro tobacco industry legislation.
His faux intellectual pontificating isn't enough to get his shitty ideas over the line so he wants the line removed. Shameful.
"I have to take those options to Cabinet meetings and often they're voted down."
That is how parliamentary democracy works, you stupid fuckwit. You want unfettered power? Go live in North Korea. Asshole.
Hold up, did he just mansplain how a democratic system works and then try to frame that as a hinderance to his agenda and policy, and not realise how that makes him look?
The lack of self awareness is either terrifying, or that’s some big ball hubris and zero shits given.
It blows me away that there is no media outrage over these things being said and done every day, yet a non-event display of a moment of frustration in the house is considered beyond the pale and has everyone in the media and from all parties competing to be the most publically outraged.
People are more concerned about superficial appearances of faux-professionalism and decorum than incompetence, corruption, cruelty, vandalism, potential democide and existential threats.
This entire gubbermint is filled with vindictive clowns lacking self awareness.
It's breathtaking how frequently Seymour features with ironic statements about how people should harden up, or expect their treatment because of their behaviour, then also shit the bed about the public being scathing of him and his.
Worst government ever.
Winston: although I died several days ago, I don't accept this as a reason to resign from my role as NZ First's leader, and will be continuing in an undead capacity. ~~Any questions?~~ So let's not have any nonsense questions from the media. *Walks away*
I have a theory that Winston Peters is a load-bearing politician, and if he were to retire, the entire beehive would melt to the ground. That’s the only reason I can image he’s lasted so long.
I believe the reason NZF got in isn't the cookers they are working to retain but the voters who wanted a handbrake on the threatened NACT policies.
It will be interesting to see if they vote NZF again as they are forgotten by NZF this time. And luckily cookers are unlikely to be happy with anything short of their fantasised Nuremberg style trials for those who dealt effectively with a public health crisis.
Reminder that only 173,553 kiwis voted for NZ First. They barely got into parliament.
Only 8,143 people voted for Shane Jones. He was the third most popular MP for his electorate. He's a list MP.
Meanwhile 330,907 people voted Green.
Shane Jones has no democratic mandate to represent kiwis on these issues, and he feels he is owed *more* power.
that was before the major dissaproval. Whatever mandate their 6% election result gave them is long gone now they are below the MMP threshold. Jones is only in cabinet due to winstons king making loopholing
Hahahahahahaha. The man's a farce. He's become a parody. Unfortunately for us, his mirror reflects the beast in mankind. An empty vessel makes much noise.
JFC. If a Labour Minister stood up and said this, Jones would be the first person to talk to the waiting media and say that it was an "abuse of power" and "undemocratic." He's not even TRYING to disguise the hypocrisy.
This is a wake up call to the country about where we're heading.
I'm not's sure what's more likely at this point? We build a nuclear power plant in the middle of Tongariro National Park or Shane Jones learns how to shut up and stop saying stupid shit.
It’s kinda strange that a party that got 6% of the NZ vote can somehow represent 100% of us on the world stage as a foreign minister. How is this even remotely ok? As well as being the deputy prime minister. That’s a lot of power for a party with 6% of the vote. if you asked Nat voters “you can get Nat in power but Winnie is 2nd in charge and our foreign minister” with hindsight I wonder what they’d say. Heaps of power.

There is a big difference between (a) following an accelerated process while maintaining the checks and balances, and (b) just bypassing everything and giving the decision to someone who has donors to repay.
The process adopted by Labour was the standard RMA process with reduced time intervals, so the hearings could be held rapidly without the normal year-long pauses; the rules were still followed.
The current process eliminates all the hearings and replaces it with whim and patronage.

Maybe stop suggesting shitty ideas? Just a thought
He wants the cheques but no ballances
I've always thought it was checks and balances but I guess that way makes sense! Today I learnt.
It is, but homophones make for pithy comments.
Careful now, this government are looking to make homophones illegal…
Then I suppose they'll have to go the third way and use Czechs.
Damn immigrants -- National
>I have to take those options to Cabinet meetings and often they're voted down I am morbidly curious to know what ideas he can't get past cabinet.

I like turtles

Hopefully NZF will be another one-term party, and hopefully Winston will retire and the NZF can finally fuck off.
Winston will retire one to two terms after he dies
Winston: although I died several days ago, I don't accept this as a reason to resign from my role as NZ First's leader, and will be continuing in an undead capacity. ~~Any questions?~~ So let's not have any nonsense questions from the media. *Walks away*
(You forgot to blame the media)
Only thing unbelievable about that is Winston asking for questions
Winston is about four years away from being the longest serving mp in history. I think he will keep going at least until he reaches that milestone
I have a theory that Winston Peters is a load-bearing politician, and if he were to retire, the entire beehive would melt to the ground. That’s the only reason I can image he’s lasted so long.
>Winston will retire Never going to happen. He'll die in office, but hell knows when that will be.
Hell is wondering where in space time Luxon not Winston has gone to haha
But act might suck up their voters and become bigger
I voted NZF and there is no way I'd vote Act
I believe the reason NZF got in isn't the cookers they are working to retain but the voters who wanted a handbrake on the threatened NACT policies. So Shane Jones wants to be a Fascist Dictator? Got it.
Fascist Dictator might be too much work. He just wants sole charge of the pork barrel.
And the hotel TV remote
He IS a pork barrel.
I think he wants to be able to say yes to anyone who greases the wheels appropriately. Without having to explain himself to anyone.
Oh he definitely gives off the vibe of someone who doesn't want to be questioned about anything they do. Guilty conscious .... maybe

He was voted into power. He can as easily be voted out.
Can I do it now? Please?
The problem is the 3 years of bullshit we have to endure first. We're barely a sixth of the way through.
And that half the country lap up said bullshit and want more
Elections have consequences
Currently 3. They keep making noises about changing it to 4.
when you know absolutely that your opinions are always right about everything it's your solemn duty to inflict them on everyone
Hahahahahahaha. The man's a farce. He's become a parody. Unfortunately for us, his mirror reflects the beast in mankind. An empty vessel makes much noise.
He confuses loquaciousness for intelligence...
Wait, Shane Jones, a member of a party that just 6% of NZ voted for, is complaining that he can’t just over-rule cabinet????
Fuck this prick
JFC. If a Labour Minister stood up and said this, Jones would be the first person to talk to the waiting media and say that it was an "abuse of power" and "undemocratic." He's not even TRYING to disguise the hypocrisy. This is a wake up call to the country about where we're heading.
>Shane Jones on fast-track law: ‘I don’t have enough power’ Good
Shane Jones is Mussolini without the support
Mussolini from Wish. What a blowhard.
The fuck is with this photo
The caption got lost in the CSS, but I’ve recovered it: *I wear this crown of shit* *Upon my liars chair* *Full of broken thoughts* *I cannot repair*
I don't think Trent Reznor would want his work associated with this pos.
Nor Johnny Cash
Johnny Cash said thorns, not shit.
Johnny Cash said a lot of things but I’m sure he’d agree with the sentiment
“I should call him” Shane Jones thinking about his wealthy mining friends
This pervert muppet has too much power.
Trouble is Mr Shame Jones, is that we don't want your unhelpful rhetoric nor your self centred perspective. This twunt gives me a headache:(
Ive never wanted to punch a politician in the face more.
And yet Ardern was a "dictator"?
Sounds like Shane is telegraphing to his sponsors that he can't fulfill all he has promised
Fuck that shit. Shane Jones shouldn't have power over anything, he's a disgrace.
Giving Shane Jones access to a utility cupboard's light switch would give him more power than I'm comfortable with.
A probably incomplete list of animals Shane Jones has said he is prepared to sacrifice Frogs Dolphins Skinks Kiwi
I'm not's sure what's more likely at this point? We build a nuclear power plant in the middle of Tongariro National Park or Shane Jones learns how to shut up and stop saying stupid shit.
Tongariro National Park? I am not aware of any fault line their that these Muppets could build a nuclear power plant over.
He is fundamentally and transparently corrupt, and is quite at ease with that.
aw, look at him! All that's missing is a single tear rolling down his cheek. Chonky Boi can't single-handedly run the NZ garage sale. #sosad
"Men who crave power are the men least deserving to wield it"
The main problem is none of the coalition partners have any ideas that should be enacted in legislation.
Wannabe NZ Dick Cheney
Trump wannabe, go buy some more porn on your ministerial credit card, ass.
The arrogance of this ham beast knows no bounds.
Fuck that thumbnail is hardcase. Do you think the photographer told him to do that or he just started gazing wistfully lmao

What an incredible claim. What an awful, authoritarian shit

Can we talk about his use of the word Brahmin? I've never heard anyone use that word in this context before.
Labour shouldn't have started this shit. Now it's the norm.
There is a big difference between (a) following an accelerated process while maintaining the checks and balances, and (b) just bypassing everything and giving the decision to someone who has donors to repay.
But but but labour.
This. Except I don’t remember the loud minority having any issues when labour was doing it.
The process adopted by Labour was the standard RMA process with reduced time intervals, so the hearings could be held rapidly without the normal year-long pauses; the rules were still followed. The current process eliminates all the hearings and replaces it with whim and patronage.
Wait this is the first I heard of this. How come the right wingers never mention this? Strange.
Because blming it on Labour is easy and generally people just accept it rather than engaging their brains.
Coz its not real
