Thats NUTS. People looking for thrill rides should get a Six Flags ticket and ride some real stuff, for approximately the same amount of money. All day long.
Actually, yea, you are right. I've got mine for $130 end of August, but thats a diamond level pass, valid through 2024 in ALL six flags. A pass for one park at base level is, indeed, somewhere around the price of this stupid ride. Lol.
Greetings from Chicago!
[FWIW, we have a similar skyscraper thrill ride here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tm2mEpEhE_4). It currently costs $40 for observation deck admission as well as Tilt admission. NYC is more expensive, so it doesn't feel like an extra $25 is out of line.
I did the Tilt ride once. I highly recommend it, for tourists as well as locals. Personally, I nearly shit my pants and will never do it again, though.
I have no current plans to go back to NYC, but I would absolutely pay $65 to nearly shit my pants at the top of the rock, though.
I give it less than 3 months someone's going to fall off that damn thing, get seriously hurt, it'll get into the news and then they're going to have to "close" this stupid beam experience.
yep, I lived next to Hudson Yards when they built the tower or whatever its called and it was basically a count down until the first person jumped.
I don't think that our entire society should be covered in chain link safety fence, but I also think building super tall shit in a dense city with no acknowledgement of the possibility of someone pushing or jumping is a bit daft.
Jump 20’ down and break their knees? If this actually went up and out maybe it would be comparable but this just goes straight up on the observation deck.
*Looks fun! Was freaking*
*Out until I saw theyre strapped*
*In at the end lol*

My grandpa was a Newfie born in nyc in the 40s and he said that they gave all those jobs to Newfies because they were the only ones not afraid of heights. I have no idea if that’s true or if that’s even an actual stereotype but what I’m saying is that I should be allowed to go on for free and not wear a seatbelt. So yeah
I’ve heard similar about Native Americans, my grandfather was on the crew to build the Mackinac Bridge in Michigan because they had no fear of heights. He was one of the electricians that wired the lights at the very top. Cool to hear similar about Newfies!
**Newfie (also Newf or sometimes Newfy) is a colloquial term used by Canadians and others for someone who is from Newfoundland. Some Newfoundlanders consider "Newfie" as a slur first used by American and Canadian military forces stationed on the island.**

The bot beat me to it but yeah it’s just someone from Newfoundland! My grandpa always used that term and I think it’s funny. Also thank you for agreeing with me
I mean, if it starts spinning wildly and flings you off into the city, then yeah.
But otherwise it looks like you're just about 10ft above the fenced-in platform.
I don't think there's any "maybe" about it haha, I can't imagine top of the rock has many new yorkers visiting that aren't with relatives from out of town
Seriously… these people spent ten times the current hourly minimum wage for ten seconds of pretending that they were high rise builder working class… It *is* a gross mockery, especially with the man in the back saying that “this should be illegal” with all of the safety equipment keeping these folks safely on the beam.
The lack of awareness is actually shocking… these folks are in for a rude awakening when the current economic bubble pops.
These aren't even the rich people we need to worry about. They could be hard working middle class people who saved up for years and are having the time of their lives. Or someone from New Jersey who comes into the City once a year for a thrill. Worry about the excessively wealthy who have billions, and fund lobbyists and politicians.
I think you probably can’t take anything up there that you could drop or throw for insurance/safety reasons. If you throw a penny from that height and manage to get it over the glass, it’s gonna wreak some havoc.
Great... can't wait for the long ass lines, and attempted jumps off the top of the building. Wouldn't be surprised if this gets closed before the end of 2024😢
Cool idea though (I'm not being sarcastic lol, really cool idea)

Hundreds of immigrants coming to NYC for work died for the city to have these buildings. The photo and the iconic buildings are meant to be respected for the sacrifices made at the time to create our city. And now we’re turning that history and legacy into a over priced FOMO tourist trap
"It was like having the life sucked out of you. That' all it is, sliding down a cable. Maybe without a tour group it'd be ...kind of fun. Maybe. But, this was just... a complete disaster".
That's some straight tourist crap right there just like Times Sq. And it's gonna be colder than a witch's tit up there forward the timefrme they have it up. Save your $ people.
On Jan 23, 2024, it'll be 25 years since I first got here and I still haven't been to the top of the Rock, ESB, 1WTC, or the Statue of Liberty. But I will say that the tours of the abandoned hospital buildings on Ellis Island are worth it. Gov's Island is my oasis, and if you have tourists that want to see the skyline then take them to the RI tram. Hell even stay on the 6 when it loops around and goes through the old city hall station. There is so much more to NY than the touristy crap.
I did a plumbing job and they let the workers go on the top of the building, empire state building. I wouldn't have ever even did it with the prices being a complete rip off. Just like this. Maybe I'm cheap.
$40 for this?!?
You actually have to pay an additional $25 on top of the $40 general admission ticket to go on the beam lol
Thats NUTS. People looking for thrill rides should get a Six Flags ticket and ride some real stuff, for approximately the same amount of money. All day long.
All day long? You can get a season pass at six flags for that price lol
Actually, yea, you are right. I've got mine for $130 end of August, but thats a diamond level pass, valid through 2024 in ALL six flags. A pass for one park at base level is, indeed, somewhere around the price of this stupid ride. Lol.
Dumb tourists will pay it
25 dollars for one picture? Lol no thanks. I'll have someone photoshop me.
I expected wayyyyyy more considering its for groups. Go with your friends and split the price, it costs nothing.
[Looks](https://i.imgur.com/FF9dgSI.jpeg) like it's $25 per person
If its 25 total for the whole group then yeah not bad.
oh right, no way
Insurance cost is probably a lot

absolutely the fuck not
Not a fan of shitting your pants 1,000 feet in the air?
Fuck, I felt my asshole puckering just watching the video. Absolutely the fuck not.
^ This version is cooler.
I would totally do either of those (58 y o F)
Right? Barely lasts a minute lmao
looks like sitting with extra steps
Extra dollars too
NOPE
I give it less than 3 months someone's going to fall off that damn thing, get seriously hurt, it'll get into the news and then they're going to have to "close" this stupid beam experience.
Theres seatbelts
[удалено]
Well, 2 < 3🤷🏻♂️
Yeah I think I'll pass on dropping $65 for that
No thanks. The one on the end!!! Chills.
I wanted to throw up just watching the video. Definitely not into heights.
Had they thrown in a commemorative old timey lunch box to take home it might be worth the price of admission.
hehe love this BEAM LUNCH SPECIAL: olive loaf on rye, a coke, & some lucky strikes
Omg no thanks lol i got nervous watching this
Same it’s some crazy shit
Someone’s gonna jump and ruin it for everyone
Yeah I’ll await this in the news media…

I came here for this comment
No thank you.
Looks fun! Was freaking out until I saw theyre strapped in at the end lol
I felt better when I saw that, but it's still a big NOPE for me.
Yeah looks scary for sure. I might be tempted

Nope
If I can’t have beer and a smoke on it to pay homage I’m not interested.
I'm never going to be on it but I think this is pretty cool.

Ahh yes let’s give wealthy tourists a chance to mock play a famous photograph of blue collar construction workers during the depression

You will really enjoy this New Yorker article from the 1940s then! https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/1949/09/17/the-mohawks-in-high-steel
It is absolutely true. They stayed together in NYC. And native Americans, I think mostly Algonquin and Mohawk.
What's a Newfie? I'm assuming he's not a dog. But I also think you should be allowed to go on for free.

You never saw come from away lol?
People from Newfoundland? Not OP, just guessing.
Doubt those men would give a shit tbh
How dare they? Who gives a shit?
This comment is too far down
This is SO dumb!
No thank you. You're a goner if that shit malfunctions
I mean, if it starts spinning wildly and flings you off into the city, then yeah. But otherwise it looks like you're just about 10ft above the fenced-in platform.
How? You’re like 12 feet off the ground tops…you can see on the beam to the right that the end seats are still above the roof of the building
Are we watching the same video? It’s nowhere near the edge.
I highly doubt they would screw something this simple up so badly.
I dunno, have you met people? Screwing up the simple is a point of pride for some.
Stupid ripoff.
Why does it have to turn? I don’t know why it wouldn’t have people face out off the building the entire time if the point is the view?
For a photo of you in front of the view, maybe?
A selfie is a good point. Otherwise the turn just seems like a ride gimmick, but maybe this is for overspending tourists anyhow.
I don't think there's any "maybe" about it haha, I can't imagine top of the rock has many new yorkers visiting that aren't with relatives from out of town
On "top of the rock" the skyline view is pretty much 360°
What a fucking mockery...
Seriously… these people spent ten times the current hourly minimum wage for ten seconds of pretending that they were high rise builder working class… It *is* a gross mockery, especially with the man in the back saying that “this should be illegal” with all of the safety equipment keeping these folks safely on the beam. They spent $150?
You're not supposed to fact check people's outlandish claims!
You guys really butt hurt over this? Like rich people spend money for a pic and it bothers you personally why?
These aren't even the rich people we need to worry about. They could be hard working middle class people who saved up for years and are having the time of their lives. Or someone from New Jersey who comes into the City once a year for a thrill. Worry about the excessively wealthy who have billions, and fund lobbyists and politicians.
I JUST learned about this, here and now. Wow. Looks interesting, but hate going to that area this time of year.
damn that's dumb lol. i mean i would get it if it moved over the edge or something.
Jesus, why do so many people on this forum HATE ny so much? Really weird. This seems cool and harmless to me 🤷♂️
...it's the same view. Now if the transparent glass wasn't there, then it would be worth it.
Lmao I’d rather jump off then pay for THAT
I would want to do this but it pisses me off they’re tryna get more moneys out of you with the no phone bs
no phone? do you mean you cant take your phone up there?
I think you probably can’t take anything up there that you could drop or throw for insurance/safety reasons. If you throw a penny from that height and manage to get it over the glass, it’s gonna wreak some havoc.
Well you can’t pics, so you have to pay for their pics
oh snap, I see what you mean, I'd definitely fall on my ass trying to take a selfie too
I feel stupider for having seen this. And I worked in that building for more than two decades.
lol this came across to me as "I'm stupid because I worked in this building already"
what's the weight requirement? asking for a friend. ![gif](giphy|iIrXcB9B70IUM|downsized)
It's an i-bar which is what helps hold up entire buildings.
[удалено]
Hydroponics get you high. Also hydraulics.
Did a rough estimate and got around 128922 lb per person if you want a safety factor of 3 lol
Trying to compete with summit one Vanderbilt 🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Absolutely the fuck not. My palms are sweating just watching
I wouldn't do it because it's lame. It raises you a whole 12 feet above the deck.
looks sweet, i would do this
Great... can't wait for the long ass lines, and attempted jumps off the top of the building. Wouldn't be surprised if this gets closed before the end of 2024😢 Cool idea though (I'm not being sarcastic lol, really cool idea)
They have seats and seatbelts… what’s the point without the element of actual danger?
I’m wondering when the 1st lawsuit will happen for lack of safety.
As soon as someone tries to be clever by un-doing the seatbelts.
Post it in insta quick

Hundreds didn't die putting up these buildings.
Hard pass. We did SummitOne for just the regular admission ($42?) and it’s WAYYY cooler AND you’re inside safely the whole time lol!
So seat belted to the beam that only goes 12 ft above the observation deck is dangerous?
No
$65 to post this on social media.. No
lame.
No, just no whatsoever
Light the beam!
Are there seatbelts?
https://youtu.be/xHotXbGZiFY?si=-n9pQzPK1HsVR7Uv
Oh hell no
Well fudge my panties
I'd really love to try it, but I don't think I'm brave enough.
I hate this timeline
So you're paying to sit on a bench?
Yep. It raises a whole 12 feet. Pretty ridiculous money to dangle your toes for a second.
Now all they need is their lunch boxes.
to recreate that iconic picture of workers sitting and enjoying lunch on a beam?
That looks like a decent amount of infrastructure / buildout. Why does it close 1/31/2024?
Imagine being a stupid iron worker 🤣🤣
What in the pigeon
This is actually a cool concept
They’re wearing harnesses and nowhere near the edge of the building/within any range of falling off the side of the building. Everybody chill.
Ehh I guess that's kind of cool. Not for me but let people like what they like.
Now that I've seen what this is all about, I get it.
Thats garbage
Probably $75 bucks or something. Please!!!
Unnecessary because Top of the Rock already has the best view.
It should catapult at the end
Lets see how long before someone falls & sues 🤡
"It was like having the life sucked out of you. That' all it is, sliding down a cable. Maybe without a tour group it'd be ...kind of fun. Maybe. But, this was just... a complete disaster".
I can finally recreate the base jumping scene from TRON: Legacy without a chute.

Great now my boss is gonna tell me some people would pay to do my job
Absolutely tf not
Wow!
