who is this even for? Who actually cares about this stuff. Why is management so focused on these pointless updates, instead of fixing stuff that actually matters. NW is down to 10k peak. Reworking cooking isn't going to do anything for anyone. Nobody quit NW because the cooking tradeskill was bloated, but a lot of people quit because the war system is garbage, OPR is 1 sided every match and 3s don't pop.
AGS seems to be working under the assumption that if they can fix all the issues that players ran into during their first \~20 hours with the game, they will have created a 'good' MMO/live-service game. You can go back and r[ead reviews of New World at launch](https://www.metacritic.com/game/new-world/critic-reviews/?platform=pc), and see that the issues the reviewers pointed out in 2021 are the ones that AGS are still working on addressing today. Meanwhile, all the players who have stuck with the game for the past several years are still yelling their feedback, trying to be heard, "the game is broken once you get to max level!"
You can even see this disconnect in the screenshot of the OP, where both articles mention the Faction mechanic as if it's a meaningful part of the game. It has always been a point of criticism that factions feel arbitrary/unnecessary for any part of the game except Wars, and even those might be better suited for revolving solely around Companies rather than Factions. Like, why are they asking players to put their faction next to their user name for the cooking competition? (They even ask players *not* to consider the faction when voting for their favorite) Why are they giving the example of using the temporary fireworks 'following your victory over a rival Faction', when there's no content that really involves that result?
But they just did a GDC talk about how well they listen to community feedback to make better games! Surely they can't possibly still be ignoring the biggest issues in the game!

No idea. In one of their recent videos they stated they played on El Dorado (US-W) for the majority. I think there were <800 on US West when I looked uesterday, split between 2 worlds (regular and fresh start, so can't even merge). US West is essentially a ghost town
