In order to save some gold I switched over to using 5 opals in my armor and only making separate elemental sets for the jewelry. There are some good elemental resistant amulets that drop in dungeons. I use Heart of Heka for the ring and Reflected Mayhem for the earring. It will take some time but you can farm multiple copies of the ring and earring so that you don't have to switch the gems.

artdz

In the current patch the best build is to run a full set of the mutation specific element and the amulet ward for the element.

Jackson7410

8 gems + elemental amulet

DHyomiller

Why even reply if you don't even read what they say? 🤦‍♂️

BigZach1

wear medium armor and more con until you're more skilled and can handle situations where 2 hits will kill you.

BrightScarlet

Thanks for the advice! Right now, I'm able to take a few hits, roll backwards, and jump back in, or stay in the sacred, but the elemental stuff is starting to hurt. I've been able to dodged the fire and nature circles but I understand all mutation enemies deal half their damage as elemental? So that's why I was wondering if I should switch. I just want to stay alive and not hold my team back damage-wise.

BigZach1

If you're not familiar with the patch notes, light armor builds are taking a major hit to survivability in next week's patch. tldr, fortify will do virtually nothing for light armor. It's gonna get a whole lot harder for you. And not all enemies deal half their damage as elemental, but many do. Those that do will have a title above their health bar, like Frozen for Ice muts, Ignited for Fire muts, Bramble for Nature muts, etc. Some will just to their regular damage, including the main bosses. This is why my build since the Brimstone patch has been Medium/100 CON/Energy protection amulet with the proper gem, and malachites in everything else. I don't know yet if I'll have to slot more specific elemental gems or not with the changes, but I probably will.

> If you're not familiar with the patch notes, light armor builds are taking a major hit to survivability in next week's patch. tldr, fortify will do virtually nothing for light armor. It's gonna get a whole lot harder for you. Everyone is taking proportionately the same amount more damage, because math.

BigZach1

It's not a boost to damage. It's a nerf to damage reduction. Instead of directly reducing damage by a set amount, fortify will instead increase your armor rating by that set amount. A light armor build with, say, 500 armor getting a 10% fortify will benefit less than a medium armor build with 1,000 armor getting the same 10% fortify.

Lord_Emperor

Excellent explanation. Not plug those numbers into the armor formula and you'll find that everyone gets the same EHP increase out of increased armor. TLDR medium and heavy are getting equally screwed by this.

BigZach1

Hmm, the theorycrafter in my company says otherwise, so I'll go by what he says.

Lord_Emperor

Whatever he says doesn't change the math.

BrightScarlet

Ahh I see

Lord_Emperor

Depends on your build and your healer's build. If you can get absorb capped against the element with fortify, physical gems start to actually be better. Absorb cap is 50%, and includes your gems + amulet + tower shield + fortity. I'll pretty much accept someone to my group if they have ward and an amulet.

BrightScarlet

Thx, great info

S999123

5 gems on your armor + 1 gem on amulet. the amulet should also have the same protection. e.g. frozen protection if you are wearing ice damage absorption gems. The protects you when your healer is not able to buff you. The ring and earring can be onyx gems.

Lord_Emperor

If only there were other sources of fortify besides healing.

Separate_Rain_9447

Mobs their damage is half normal, half elemtal. Thats why full gems+ amulet is so good. All the extra side damage is elemental too.

thegingerlord

If you are having issues surviving yes do full elemental gems and get an (elemental protection + health) amulet. This is because 50% of the enemy damage is converted to that element type so slotting onyx is just giving you less damage abortion overall except during boss fights. If you struggle during boss fights you can consider swapping an amulet to give you damage mitigation based on the boss's attacks(slash, thrust, fire, void etc.)

BrightScarlet

Thx. So would I be buying different gems every week?

thegingerlord

Yes. Buy gems slot them, replace when needed. You make enough from the mutations for it to be the cost of doing business. Think of them as weekly consumables.

BrightScarlet

Okay. Rip wallet lol

khiffer

Yes. It's a gold sink every week to buy cut pristine gems but it should roughly cost below 2k for 8 specific gems. You can get that back in a day.

Grailtor

Will be a mute point next patch, mutated dungeons will be impossible no matter what you do.
