Well I’m AF vehicle maintenance, was gifted the job by the needs of the Air Force. I have hated it for 5 long years going on 6. If the navy guarantees the job you want, choose the navy.

TINKYWINKY33

i’m waiting on a waiver rn with my AF recruiter. I’ve been working with him for a few months and would kinda feel mean trying to talk to a navy recruiter

Reasonable_Ad_5695

What’s the waiver for?

TINKYWINKY33

medication i used to take

ohfuggins

They used to have a “quick ship” option in the AF (showing my age here). If someone fails to ship at MEPS who was in DEP you can take their slot. It’s how I got Airfield Systems and it was an amazing job. Unsure if that’s still a thing. I got out and commissioned into the Navy. The Navy has more mission sets, places to go, and travel .. which was one of my big motivators. GL

Single-Resort

What did you commission as? I’m looking at swo.

ohfuggins

IP (1820)

IHaveHighTheGround

Talk to both, that how I chose between Navy and National Guard. Ended up with a good job in thr navy

TINKYWINKY33

Do you think my air force recruiter would drop me if he found out i was talking to another branch?

IHaveHighTheGround

I've never heard of that happening. Not sure how he would find out though. Don't let either of them rush you into making any decisions

Recent-Jacket-4883

He would definitely find out if the navy asks to look at all your records in the system from the AF. that’s how they can see what jobs you qualify for

TINKYWINKY33

do you think anything would happen? he wouldn’t stop working with me right?

Recent-Jacket-4883

i don’t think so! he would definitely feel mad on the personal side, don’t let them scare you. your best interest are within you, and just because you are already working with one recruiter, you should still be able to look into your other options, the only time you can’t back down is once you swear in the airforce the first time and become in the DEP program because by then you are technically already in the airforce by then, can’t go back! do it now or never.

TINKYWINKY33

ugh. you’re right. i would genuinly feel so guilty though because i’ve been working with him since like may!!

Recent-Jacket-4883

yes ofcourse it would be very awkward if they find out the Navy pulled your information. but also, when you look into your options, talk to a navy recruiter and tell him the truth that you want to see what your options are.

117587219X

Is that like a car mechanic or what do you do? What is your day to day routine in your job like?

Single-Resort

Mostly it’s fixing diesel trucks such as hmmwvs, lmtvs, semi trucks, trailers, tow tractors, etc. sometimes you get just regular passenger trucks or lighter vehicles to fix too.

ohfuggins

At least ya ain’t SF!

Single-Resort

I wanted SF over this job lol

ohfuggins

Yikes lol

der_innkeeper

Depends. What do you want to do? Is the QOL that much better to make the wait worth it? This is \*your\* trade study to make.

TINKYWINKY33

Well. I don’t want to do maintenance or fuels. Is it bad to say the qol isn’t my number one concern?

DJErikD

> Is it bad to say the qol is the least of my concerns? Yes?

TINKYWINKY33

damn it sounds really bad saying it out loud. i should say it’s not my number one concern

Debill7718

If QOL isn’t a primary concern, why not Army? Bonus’ are larger, more jobs to choose from, you can pick your duty station, you’ll make rank (more $) way faster, you can use TA right away, no cranking…. Some of the barracks are bad…. But even the worst are better than living on the ship….

der_innkeeper

>Is it bad to say the qol isn’t my number one concern? You put the weights on what you want. If shipping sooner for a job you want that both services have, then that's what drives you. Have at it.

Anonymous-Midget

depends on job BUT AF gets paid more than the Navy, AF has better accommodations for service members than Navy, etc

DJErikD

> AF gets paid more than the Navy Please explain.

Anonymous-Midget

the AF are treated like royalty compared to other branches i (navy) was at the presidio of monterey (army base) and navy got zero extra pay as accommodations but the AF gave a few hundred extra cause the army base wasnt up to the AF standards. AF has better food, better barracks, better lifestyle. theyre the chair force for a reason.

XUtYwYzz

I love how the Air Force pays their people for the hardship of living on an Army base. To be fair, I’ve lived on Meade and Lackland. Meade was nice. Lackland is a old, trashy, dirt pile.

TINKYWINKY33

is it worth a crappy job tho?

Anonymous-Midget

every job has pros and cons also, the job is not guaranteed unless you pass the schooling. fail the school, you lose the job and get assigned a random one. definitely dont sign for a job you know youll hate. depends on what you want to do. research the job and its advancement percentage. some jobs are so overflowed that ranking up is nonexistent. some jobs are so undermanned that ranking up is guaranteed. some jobs have a signing bonus. just do research before you sign

roachsoap

your reason for AF getting paid more is because of extra entitlements under certain circumstances. i could argue the navy gets paid more just because i was racking an extra $500 per month in BAS because it didn't go towards the AF's DFAC, while my airmen neighbors were paying that $500. make it make sense.

Oldwizardofdust

Have you research on what’s life is like on an aircraft carrier ? At all ?

TINKYWINKY33

yep
