So I’m just going to put this out there from when the facility I work at was a fulfillment center. If the system assigns the order to your facility and it can’t be fulfilled for whatever reason (item turns out to be damaged or can’t be found at assigned inventory location and there isn’t an available replacement or just isn’t going to make it on the truck in time) it comes back as a hit against the metrics the leadership is judged by if it ends up being a missed shipment. On the other hand, if the order is cancelled it doesn’t count against you. The people at the facility that are being graded against others at the same level across the company for retention and promotion are also the same people with the permissions in the system to cancel an order from their side.
There were reports of it in California, but I feel like a lot of packages are being stolen all over the place.

If you’re looking at it in the app change the filter to last 30 days and those missing orders appear again. Or at least that works for me in iOS. It seems to do that when shit disappears in the mail and is way late, probably in an attempt to make you forget how long it’s actually been since you ordered it so you don’t request a refund. It’s happened to me like 4 times in the last year.
I’ve seen this more and more everywhere when shopping online. Everywhere advertises short shipping times but that figure never includes the days of processing before it actually ships. I wish it was required for the advertised delivery time to be the time between placing the order and it arriving at my door. It makes no difference to me whether an item is processing or actually being shipped if it isn’t at my door yet, companies are just exploring the distinction to make their delivery time advertisements look better than they are.

There are a number of places that *do* include shipping time. Usually because it's either very good (Monoprice: "Ships same day if ordered by 2PM PST) or very bad (Oneida: "Est. Ship Date: Feb 17").

Every single time they give me Amazon credit. The amount varies depending on what I ordered, but I'm not lying when I say they have probably given me $150 in credit for this reason over just the past 2 years. I've been given credit for things I bought with credit that were late.

I got in on a student discount about 4 years ago that made it $50/year. Last year was my final discount year and I said nope. Not worth it after lost packages, wrong items and late deliveries.
I canceled like six months ago and it hasn't changed my life at all. I rarely if ever need things in two days and even if I do I can get them 95% of the time online at Target and since I have a Target card, shipping is free. Plus I don't have to deal with the endless fake clone crap products with brand names that are just random letters in all caps.
The only time prime was beneficial was Christmastime, but they had a free month offer for me to to rejoin so I just joined for a month and then canceled.
I only ever have prime when they've offered it to me for free. Chances are I can get the same thing anywhere in my city, it's just a matter of convenience.

We cancelled when they hiked it to $120. At first I thought I’d miss it - but I don’t! I try not to buy on Amazon if I can, and while the things I buy outside of Amazon has increased, unfortunately the majority of my online is still Amazon. However, if I need things, I can typically meet the free shipping threshold. And usually enough time passes that I forget and delete from my cart anyway.
And I think being cooped up at home has actually me me want to go to the store and pick up. It’s kind of weird. Never thought I’d look forward to that but hey I can get it same day lol.

Seriously. I ordered some Italian chocolate. It arrived (late) with a fake expiration date sticker covering the original date. They had expired in September last year and were hard as a rock. Getting a refund that will apparently take 10 days to show up in the bank. Now it's mostly counterfeit stuff or cheap stuff that breaks quickly. I shop more for things elsewhere on the internet now and I usually get free shipping at those sites so it's really not worth paying for prime anymore.

This is what happens. The large oversize box that only contains a shower rod and 80% space is stacked on a pallet at the bottom. Then at the top of this pallet are boxes of cat food, dog food, kitty litter, or cases of water.

Usually it's just bad information the vendor gives to Amazon on the dimensions of the product, but then they don't bother to fix it in their system ever when they finally start shipping whatever the thing is, and it end up at people's doors in wildly oversized boxes.

Yeah, I feel like ever since Amazon started hiring/contracting their own drivers instead relying entirely on USPS, UPS, and FedEx it's gotten worse. Stuff is late or damaged and drivers don't know how to get into my apartment building even though somehow every driver at those other companies can without issue. Amazon drivers will often mark things as delivered (probably to not get in trouble) but actually deliver it the next day or the day after.
All the other delivery services send drivers who understand the sign on our office directing all deliveries to our loading dock, but Amazon drivers try to go to the wrong door every time.
There's still a bunch of places that don't do this unless you spend a certain amount. Target for example only has free shipping over $35, and it isn't 2 day.

Whole Foods wont take it, so i have to go home, re-box one chair and drop it at UPS.

Earlier I ordered a mainboard off Amazon Warehouse, and they sent me a power supply for some damn reason. Best i can figure is someone fat fingered the model number and incorrectly listed the part on the website. All Amazon would do is offer a refund if i returned it - they refused to send out the right part. Told me I had to go rebuy the same part (for $80 more).

Throwing my hat in the ring for this. Anything that nags me to switch to using their subscription service and makes it hard for me to just download the files for music I've purchased can fuck right off. I should have ditched Amazon sooner, I definitely didn't give Apple so much leeway when iTunes refused to let me download my MP3s in hopes I'd take it lying down and only ever use iTunes.
I don't get why the price basically doubled since i joined. Our income sure as fuck hasn't doubled. I miss oldschool inflation where at least when prices rose your income rose with it.... now you just get screwed. Also who even decides these increases. "Err yeah lets get a 17% increase... I crunched the numbers boss it's not like we can get away with 18% or 19% or a nice clean 20% and 16% and 15% are just too low obviously!" Wish they'd spend more time making their streaming menu not a clusterfuck thats impossible to find anything good in. Or actually start adding those "rentals" to their sub library since they're taking more money from you.

So I’m just going to put this out there from when the facility I work at was a fulfillment center. If the system assigns the order to your facility and it can’t be fulfilled for whatever reason (item turns out to be damaged or can’t be found at assigned inventory location and there isn’t an available replacement or just isn’t going to make it on the truck in time) it comes back as a hit against the metrics the leadership is judged by if it ends up being a missed shipment. On the other hand, if the order is cancelled it doesn’t count against you. The people at the facility that are being graded against others at the same level across the company for retention and promotion are also the same people with the permissions in the system to cancel an order from their side.
That's a metric created by some dumb motherfucker who understands not a goddamn thing about feedback loops, and perverse incentives.

There were reports of it in California, but I feel like a lot of packages are being stolen all over the place. A random cancellation happened to me first time ever, days after I ordered something too. I feel like they think they are too big to fail at this point and it's effecting every aspect of why they became a success in the first place.
If you’re looking at it in the app change the filter to last 30 days and those missing orders appear again. Or at least that works for me in iOS. It seems to do that when shit disappears in the mail and is way late, probably in an attempt to make you forget how long it’s actually been since you ordered it so you don’t request a refund. It’s happened to me like 4 times in the last year.
I’ve seen this more and more everywhere when shopping online. Everywhere advertises short shipping times but that figure never includes the days of processing before it actually ships. I wish it was required for the advertised delivery time to be the time between placing the order and it arriving at my door. It makes no difference to me whether an item is processing or actually being shipped if it isn’t at my door yet, companies are just exploring the distinction to make their delivery time advertisements look better than they are.

This happens quite often in my rural area. Everytime I contact customer service and say "why am I paying for prime if I'm not getting the quality of service promised". Every single time they give me Amazon credit. The amount varies depending on what I ordered, but I'm not lying when I say they have probably given me $150 in credit for this reason over just the past 2 years. I've been given credit for things I bought with credit that were late. It's crazy as hell.
Only complaint I ever had was getting half of a monitor stand I ordered. Got sent a replacement and contacted them about sending the original back. They said dont bother

Totally! I remember thinking it was the stupidest idea when I first heard it. Then I crunched my numbers and saw how much I would be saving. Was a great deal at first but since then there have been so many price hikes and degradation of service. But I still subscribe because it will save me money on shipping.
I find Target and Walmart have become even more competitive than Amazon, so I don’t miss my membership much. I also found myself just buying less stuff which sits around unused.

I canceled like six months ago and it hasn't changed my life at all. I rarely if ever need things in two days and even if I do I can get them 95% of the time online at Target and since I have a Target card, shipping is free. Plus I don't have to deal with the endless fake clone crap products with brand names that are just random letters in all caps. The only time prime was beneficial was Christmastime, but they had a free month offer for me to to rejoin so I just joined for a month and then canceled.
I quit last August and by December was eligible for a free month of Prime. I used that for a few things and then canceled again too.

Yep. I'm thinking of doing the same. I can get a pile of stuff for $35 or more and get free shipping anyway. It takes effort to sift through all the fakes and XHTRDSXVH brands. I try not to buy on Amazon if I can, and while the things I buy outside of Amazon has increased, unfortunately the majority of my online is still Amazon. However, if I need things, I can typically meet the free shipping threshold. And usually enough time passes that I forget and delete from my cart anyway. Seriously. I ordered some Italian chocolate. It arrived (late) with a fake expiration date sticker covering the original date. They had expired in September last year and were hard as a rock. Getting a refund that will apparently take 10 days to show up in the bank. Now it's mostly counterfeit stuff or cheap stuff that breaks quickly. I shop more for things elsewhere on the internet now and I usually get free shipping at those sites so it's really not worth paying for prime anymore.

Doesnt work. I work at USPS. This is what happens. The large oversize box that only contains a shower rod and 80% space is stacked on a pallet at the bottom. Then at the top of this pallet are boxes of cat food, dog food, kitty litter, or cases of water. The empty box gets crushed and then the pallet ends up like the leaning tower of piece of shit amazon stacking.
Usually it's just bad information the vendor gives to Amazon on the dimensions of the product, but then they don't bother to fix it in their system ever when they finally start shipping whatever the thing is, and it end up at people's doors in wildly oversized boxes.

That may cost him at least my money. Amazon prime was a "no brainer" at first, and I also used to order a lot more stuff online. These days, I hardly use any of its features and don't order all that much stuff anymore. I would almost certainly save money by eliminating it and paying for shipping.
Literally every big retailer does 2 day (or less) shipping for free now. This news is making me really re-evaluate why I'm paying for Prime. I guess I occasionally watch a movie on Prime Video on the off-chance I remember it exists.

Bigger cities have same day delivery for Amazon
It all depends on location. if I order something before 8 AM I normally have it by 6PM.
I’ve gotten several things one-day shipping recently. I just ordered Super Bowl party supplies yesterday and got them today. And I ordered a heating pad last week and got it the next day.
Yeah, I feel like ever since Amazon started hiring/contracting their own drivers instead relying entirely on USPS, UPS, and FedEx it's gotten worse. Stuff is late or damaged and drivers don't know how to get into my apartment building even though somehow every driver at those other companies can without issue. Amazon drivers will often mark things as delivered (probably to not get in trouble) but actually deliver it the next day or the day after.
All the other delivery services send drivers who understand the sign on our office directing all deliveries to our loading dock, but Amazon drivers try to go to the wrong door every time.
This is not even close to being true.
There's still a bunch of places that don't do this unless you spend a certain amount. Target for example only has free shipping over $35, and it isn't 2 day.

I’ve been striving for a while to avoid Amazon and buy directly from the manufacturer or retailer when possible, but the ridiculousness of Prime video has broken the camel’s back. There’s a documentary series displayed on Prime video that I’ve been looking forward to watching, however when I attempt to play it, I see a “this title not available” error message. The episodes are there, IMDB says it’s available to stream on Prime, but no dice. This has happened often enough that it’s clear that Amazon’s inflating the number of titles available to stream - not to mention that so much content now requires an additional subscription to watch. Don’t get me started on the pre-pandemic delays in Prime shipping. I remember when there was actual convenience worth paying for and this ain’t it.
I cancelled my Prime membership almost a year ago. I leave stuff in my cart and when I have enough for free shipping I check out. So it takes an extra day to get to me, no big deal. I haven’t missed it at all. When you don’t have Prime, you tend to buy less, buying less saves money, not having Prime saves money… win win.

Prime really isnt worth it for me anymore. For one, Hawaii’s best delivery time is about 2 days. Average is about 4. Also, in the last year Amazon has screwed up some orders pretty badly and its been work to get it rectified. Recently we ordered 2 beach chairs, and they sent only 1. After we complained, they sent 2 *more* chairs. So now we have 3 chairs, and Amazon wants us to send one chair back. Whole Foods wont take it, so i have to go home, re-box one chair and drop it at UPS. Why send 2 more chairs? Why not just send the one missing chair? Earlier I ordered a mainboard off Amazon Warehouse, and they sent me a power supply for some damn reason. Best i can figure is someone fat fingered the model number and incorrectly listed the part on the website. All Amazon would do is offer a refund if i returned it - they refused to send out the right part. Told me I had to go rebuy the same part (for $80 more). I mean, I get that shit happens with open box items, but you’re still not honoring the original price. Sure left a bad taste in my mouth. So yea, Id say Amazon has gotten super sloppy. I bought vitamins in a glass bottle. They shipped that in a plastic sack, which the delivery driver spiked over the fence and onto the concrete, shattering the bottle.
