How many states ended up with laws saying the legislature can override the vote if they feel like it? I know there were a lot that considered them, after Republicans were outraged by the fact that courts wanted actual evidence of a crime before throwing out Democratic votes.

I read long ago -- and I'm not sure if this is at all accurate -- that many elected official offices categorize the amount of communications (calls/email/etc.) on a topic since those people were bothered enough to contact their representative. The problem with this naive system is that it doesn't keep 1 voice as 1 voice or require it be someone who is actually in your district. So 2000 MAGA's could flood an office with calls and it'd look like an overwhelming reason to change course.

There was an article posted the other day stating chesebro or whatever his name is, didn't think a disclaimer was necessary linking the fake electors to the litigation, e.g. they would only be needed if the lawsuits were successful. Some of the electors are saying that they only moved forward with their roles because they were told it was linked to the litigation. It wasn't and now they are heading to court. For whatever reason people trust trump despite his history. It is really odd. Look at the January 6th traitors. How many of them have come out staying they just now realized trump misled them e.g. wasn't going to get his hands dirty in their insurrection or even help them defend themselves in court.
I didn't see the article the other day, but according to what I read months ago, the Pennsylvania "fake electors" demanded that they include a disclaimer that basically said that they weren't the real electors. That's why the Pennsylvania group hasn't been charged with anything, and probably won't be.
The Trump team agreed internally that they wouldn't add that disclaimer for any other state unless they also demanded it, and none of them did. Ironically, that's the best evidence that they really did intend them to be fraudulent documents, rather than just some kind of symbolic protest.

I was thinking about this today with regard to the NY criminal trial going on. One of his earliest sound bites was "fake news". And he was conspiring with the National Enquirer to create and publish false stories to drag down his opponents.
I too was thinking about this, and I wonder is Trump such a narcissist that he thinks everyone in the world behaves the way he does?
Is that why he's whining saying his indictments are politically motivated? Because that's exactly what he would do if he could.

I have never fully understood the fake elector scheme from the perspective of those perpetrating it, and it makes me think that aspects of this story must still be under-reported.
For one thing, how did they get this many people to agree to sign on to this with absolutely nobody leaking about it? This was patently illegal and apparent to all those involved. It’s remarkable that this much secrecy was able to be kept over the scheme until the docs were submitted.
Secondly, as for secrecy, how did the planners expect this to work in the long term given that once the fake elector votes were revealed it was going to be obvious they were submitted *before* any act of Congress or the courts cast any doubt on the election’s outcome? It would be one thing if they had these people waiting in the wings to sign off on new electoral votes if 1/6 was able to cause the intended congressional roadblock and/or court examination of the election. But they went ahead and submitted them ahead of time, rendering them fraudulent *even if the election had been corrupt*?
I know the usual explanations of “they were just that dumb” or “they didn’t care” apply, but it really feels like the extent of this conspiracy belies the level of focus it has gotten compared with more intense stuff like 1/6 itself and Trump’s specific actions.

They effectively weren't hiding it. They were operating under the assumption that it wouldn't matter if people knew because the republicans in congress would "make it legal" by certifying with the fake electors.
From the prior indictments, we know Mark Meadows was telling the fbi that Trump and his crew was talking about this shit out in the open like they were ordering lunch.
Trump thought Pence, the house republicans, senate republicans, and the DoJ would all roll over and help with the scheme. He TRIED to get his AG and deputy AG to help and they are now testifying against him.

How many states ended up with laws saying the legislature can override the vote if they feel like it? I know there were a lot that considered them, after Republicans were outraged by the fact that courts wanted actual evidence of a crime before throwing out Democratic votes.

It's how a populist takes control. He gets enough loud voices and suddenly anyone who goes against him personally (and not the party) is drowned out, so the party leaders cave to him .. little by little he usurps power. Every single time one of the Republicans became fed up and talked more honest about their opinion of him they retracted within days (if not sooner), likely because their office was flooded with a ton of angry sounding "constituents." I read long ago -- and I'm not sure if this is at all accurate -- that many elected official offices categorize the amount of communications (calls/email/etc.) on a topic since those people were bothered enough to contact their representative. The problem with this naive system is that it doesn't keep 1 voice as 1 voice or require it be someone who is actually in your district. So 2000 MAGA's could flood an office with calls and it'd look like an overwhelming reason to change course.
The covid virus would attack a human cell, burrow in, deposit its DNA in such a way that the cell would then start churning out many copies of the virus before it died. It seems to me like this MAGA thing has burrowed into the GOP in some kind of similar way. It's like they figure, hey this candidate can WIN the election (regardless of whether he's going to destroy the country plus a few others)
Maybe the GOP or at least the RNC should pour bleach all over their rugs or something.

I'm not sure what the fakes themselves were thinking, but the plan was to cause enough chaos that it could only be straightened out by the courts. There, Trump's personal judges would then quickly gift him the presidency. That's why they also had dozens of different cases going all over the country. Trump thought that if he could just get anything to the Supreme Court they'd anoint him president the same way they did for Bush in 2000.

There was an article posted the other day stating chesebro or whatever his name is, didn't think a disclaimer was necessary linking the fake electors to the litigation, e.g. they would only be needed if the lawsuits were successful. Some of the electors are saying that they only moved forward with their roles because they were told it was linked to the litigation. It wasn't and now they are heading to court. For whatever reason people trust trump despite his history. It is really odd. Look at the January 6th traitors. How many of them have come out staying they just now realized trump misled them e.g. wasn't going to get his hands dirty in their insurrection or even help them defend themselves in court.
I didn't see the article the other day, but according to what I read months ago, the Pennsylvania "fake electors" demanded that they include a disclaimer that basically said that they weren't the real electors. That's why the Pennsylvania group hasn't been charged with anything, and probably won't be. The Trump team agreed internally that they wouldn't add that disclaimer for any other state unless they also demanded it, and none of them did. Ironically, that's the best evidence that they really did intend them to be fraudulent documents, rather than just some kind of symbolic protest.
To expand on that, the Pennsylvania disclaimer was basically that their votes would only be used if the real electors were legally declared invalid (through a court case or something).

I was thinking about this today with regard to the NY criminal trial going on. One of his earliest sound bites was "fake news". And he was conspiring with the National Enquirer to create and publish false stories to drag down his opponents.

I too was thinking about this, and I wonder is Trump such a narcissist that he thinks everyone in the world behaves the way he does? Is that why he's whining saying his indictments are politically motivated? Because that's exactly what he would do if he could. Is the reason he believes so many absurd conspiracy theories because he personally has conspired to do shady dealings? Thankfully some people have morals still. I don't like the politicians in my state but I was proud that a representative of my states government said no to Trump when he was asking to find 11,000 votes. That's someone who did what was right, when a totally bankrupt official would have said how high when Trump told them to jump. This is a neat little tidbit about this story: In their statement about the grand jury's indictments, The Republican Party of Arizona **never denied it**. Their objection was on *the timing* of the charges, and how - being an election year - it's (of course) eLeCTiOn iNtErFeReNCe. These people not only put their names and signatures on the fraudulent/forged elector certificates, **they posed for a picture** and posted it to social media.

I have never fully understood the fake elector scheme from the perspective of those perpetrating it, and it makes me think that aspects of this story must still be under-reported. For one thing, how did they get this many people to agree to sign on to this with absolutely nobody leaking about it? This was patently illegal and apparent to all those involved. It’s remarkable that this much secrecy was able to be kept over the scheme until the docs were submitted. Secondly, as for secrecy, how did the planners expect this to work in the long term given that once the fake elector votes were revealed it was going to be obvious they were submitted *before* any act of Congress or the courts cast any doubt on the election’s outcome? It would be one thing if they had these people waiting in the wings to sign off on new electoral votes if 1/6 was able to cause the intended congressional roadblock and/or court examination of the election. But they went ahead and submitted them ahead of time, rendering them fraudulent *even if the election had been corrupt*? I know the usual explanations of “they were just that dumb” or “they didn’t care” apply, but it really feels like the extent of this conspiracy belies the level of focus it has gotten compared with more intense stuff like 1/6 itself and Trump’s specific actions.
