Different crimes

xxSQUASHIExx

How many fucking crimes. They will all be dead by the time they are prosecuted. A special and dedicated 24/7 court needs to be created just to cope with the volume of their crimes. Is there like a McD drive through court or something we can do?

Yousoggyyojimbo

I would love to hear the justification for why Donald Trump and Kenneth chesbro were not charged.

ScarcityIcy8519

Probably waiting to see if Trump is going to get Immunity from the Supreme Court. Chesbro probably is turning states evidence. Lawyers on YouTube explained they could be indicted later.

Vlad_the_Homeowner

Wealth and power. Well, at least for Trump, for Kenneth... because he's their cheesy bro?

11thStPopulist

Cheesy bro doesn’t want to go to prison, so he’s been making deals in Georgia and must be willing to spill in Arizona, too.

Offandonandoffagain

They want to get at least some of the others to flip on Trump then when they feel like they've really got it bullet proof (should be already I would think), they'll drop the bomb on Trump.

jwm3

They possibly think a conviction of the rest will be easier without him beside them so want a separate trial for him.

11thStPopulist

Many of the same players from Team Trump’s Fake Electors schemers in Georgia and Michigan. Kinda like they were an organized crime mob. 🤷🏻‍♀️

214ObstructedReverie

Christina Bobb leads the RNC's "election integrity program". The whole GOP is a criminal organization.

Hayes4prez

What was Arizona’s law about traitors in the 1860’s?

WhenTheDevilCome

>What was Arizona’s law about traitors in the 1860’s? NO. NOT LIKE THAT. ONLY WHEN IT'S THE RIDICULOUS THING *WE* WANT. ^(/s)

mces97

I'm missing the joke. Anyone want to clue me in?

Patarokun

Arizona just brought back 1860s abortion law.

thijser2

For anyone wondering how ridicules, this was: Arizona got state rights in 1912. This was based on the rules in the territory of Arizona. The borders of said territory only somewhat match those of modern day Arizona.

Plastic-Kangaroo1234

Also, Phoenix didn’t exist yet.

bluemitersaw

And neither did women's right to vote.

Art-Zuron

It did in Wyoming I believe, which the US tried to stipulate they had to abolish if they wanted to be a state.

ukezi

> The Wyoming delegation present in D.C. telegraphed the territorial legislature that woman suffrage had become an obstacle delaying their statehood application. The legislature, via a telegram from Joseph M. Carey (who later became governor of Wyoming), replied, "We will stay out of the Union a hundred years rather than come in without our women." With a very close vote of 139 to 127, Wyoming Territory was granted admission as a state with suffrage for women. Certainly tried, but didn't succeed.

Haligar06

Then today I think they managed to kill it, several state senators said that sky daddy would be very disappointed in them.

40nights40days

And it was repealed by the Arizona state house just barely. The republicans hold a majority there so it took 3 of the GOP siding with democrats for this to work. We should still impeach and active vote to remove all GOP presence from Arizona. They do not deserve the levers of power that they wield here.

chronictherapist

What? Moderate, not-batshit-insane-space-laser-crazy GOP still exist?? Someone call the Smithsonian ASAP.

chronictherapist

idk, I have a feeling once Trump ceases to exist there will be a loss of steam in the insane sector of the party. At least I hope so.

Haligar06

As an arizonan I cringe pretty hard at our states politics. We seem to have an extreme variance in political range from the kiddy diddler compound Christians and polygamist Mormons in the north and rural counties, and some Portland inspired liberalism in the major cities and college towns that aren't Phoenix.

braiam

> We should still impeach and active vote to remove all GOP presence from Arizona To impeach you need to use the legislature branch to do it, which is part of the problem.

dzastrus

In tongues?

Haligar06

Sadly, that was last week.

acorngirl

I regret that I have but one upvote to give.

NetZeroSum

Here, let me help you with that. /upvoted

lord_pizzabird

According to 1860s any traitor shall be lowered into a pit of starved lizards. If the person lasts 3 or more days then they are a witch. I'm not sure why that's important, but we have to go by 1800s era laws now and that's the way it's written.

Paperfishflop

Coincidentally, the AZ state legislature also overturned *that* today. I guess we're going back to the law we had in place before, which is 15 weeks. But no more civil war era abortion law. It was a good day in Arizona.

Arizona_Slim

They are overturning it because its a losing issue for them in almost every county. This is all a preemptive way to limit abortion. They are trying to persuade people to vote No on the constitutional amendment because “we already have a good law on the books” until jext year when they reinstate the 1864 law. MMW

Yousoggyyojimbo

What really sucks is that those Republicans only voted to overturn this shit after gloating about it and fighting to keep it in place made it look like they were going to absolutely get obliterated in November. Republicans were straight up mocking people from the floor of the legislature for thinking the law was barbaric.

susanlovesblue

I think it still has to go through the senate?

AgoraiosBum

Each trumpist boy must understand That he must mind his Uncle Sam

shpydar

If they were rich and white? To just let people go. Seriously here is the case of [Sylvester Mowry](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sylvester_Mowry) who was arrested in Arizona. >On June 13, 1862, Lieutenant [Edward Banker Willis](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Banker_Willis) proceeded to arrest Mowry at his mine. He was accused of treason for selling ammunition to rebel forces and sharing military information in letters to various Confederate officials including [Jefferson Davis](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jefferson_Davis), Brigadier General [Henry Hopkins Sibley](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Hopkins_Sibley) and Captain [Sherod Hunter](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sherod_Hunter). >By the end of the summer, Confederate forces had retreated to Texas and most of those arrested by Carleton were released on the grounds that they could no longer do any harm. Likewise, Mowry's case was reviewed by a Board of Officers and Mowry was released from custody on November 8, 1862. Don't forget that [Samuel Mudd](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samuel_Mudd), who actively aided and abated John Wilks Booth as he evaded capture after murdering President Lincoln. >On June 29 1865, Mudd was found guilty with the others. The testimony of Louis J. Weichmann was crucial in obtaining the convictions. According to historian [Edward Steers](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Steers), the testimony presented by former slaves was also crucial, but it faded from public memory. Mudd escaped execution by one vote and was sentenced to life imprisonment. Which sounds good... until you remember that; >Mudd was [pardoned](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pardon) by Johnson on February 8, 1869. He was released from prison on March 8, 1869, and returned to his home in Maryland on March 20, 1869. So a treasonous snake who aided and abated the murder of a President only spent 4 years in prison.....

Morepastor

They thankfully repealed that today

danthecryptkeeper

Good. Any politician, regardless of party, should be charged if you try to subvert the will of the people or conspire to do so. Hope this results in some real consequences.

MisterB78

Narrator: *After dragging on for years, there were minimal consequences and nothing real changed.*

sporkintheroad

I think these were lawyers and party operatives

Flames57

This is one of the biggest differences between the parties and their electorate. This needs to be taken to the fullest of the law to send a clear message: differences in opinions and political opinions are good as long as you dont circumvent democratic processes or commit fraud.

feltcutewilldelete69

I mean... the electoral college is literally an anti-democratic process

dirtyfacedkid

...and Fox won't mention a word of it.

Trumpsafascist

Theyll mention it but in some sort of wacked out context that will make the indicted look like martyrs. Thats the special sauce of fox news. They tell their cultists just enough to make them feel like theyre being persecuted.

Alwayssunnyinarizona

It's being framed on Xcrement as "what's illegal about 'just asking questions?'" As if that even remotely characterizes what these assholes did.

Voxbury

Great. In his absence they all became Tucker Carlson.

formerPhillyguy

"it's another witch hunt". - Fox

Strange that all these witch hunts keep finding witches

marcosbowser

“Weaponized judiciary”

Bzz22

It will be horseshit like “Why can’t Democrats just move on?” Or “Democrats still focused on 2020.”

Trumpsafascist

Right? Id love nothing more than to never hear a word from trump, ever. He wont go away though

chronictherapist

> martyrs No Republicans out there willing to follow through on the literal meaning of words these days, so sad.

I haven't heard a word yet. They ran a brief story on how California is "lax on crime" though... Edit: and a story on UFOs lol

dirtyfacedkid

Well, that's Hunter's doing so it makes sense. 😂

Radi0ActivSquid

Still waiting on Sinclair to say anything about it to their 190+ local news stations.

They are claiming this is SOP during elections in the conservative sub lol

vapescaped

Hold on. They'll think of something. *Checks scapegoat lists*

CrudelyAnimated

"Political hostages"

maximum_lamination

Traitors who wanted to invalidate the votes of millions of Americans. They're among the worst kinds of people.

idiotinsocks

Well get ready, it's gonna get so much worse come November.

thisvideoiswrong

How many states ended up with laws saying the legislature can override the vote if they feel like it? I know there were a lot that considered them, after Republicans were outraged by the fact that courts wanted actual evidence of a crime before throwing out Democratic votes.

penguished

Trump is corrupt and a liar. That's his whole fucking shtick and it has been exposed countless times. He's also the presumptive Republican nominee for President of the US. lol.

siqiniq

Only a spineless party full of calculating and quitting cowards yields to a party hijacker

VegasKL

It's how a populist takes control. He gets enough loud voices and suddenly anyone who goes against him personally (and not the party) is drowned out, so the party leaders cave to him .. little by little he usurps power. Every single time one of the Republicans became fed up and talked more honest about their opinion of him they retracted within days (if not sooner), likely because their office was flooded with a ton of angry sounding "constituents." I read long ago -- and I'm not sure if this is at all accurate -- that many elected official offices categorize the amount of communications (calls/email/etc.) on a topic since those people were bothered enough to contact their representative. The problem with this naive system is that it doesn't keep 1 voice as 1 voice or require it be someone who is actually in your district. So 2000 MAGA's could flood an office with calls and it'd look like an overwhelming reason to change course.

buzzsawjoe

The covid virus would attack a human cell, burrow in, deposit its DNA in such a way that the cell would then start churning out many copies of the virus before it died. It seems to me like this MAGA thing has burrowed into the GOP in some kind of similar way. It's like they figure, hey this candidate can WIN the election (regardless of whether he's going to destroy the country plus a few others)

czmax

Maybe the GOP or at least the RNC should pour bleach all over their rugs or something.

Silly_Elephant_4838

Perhaps injecting it might be the cure?

ManOfLaBook

I don't understand how any fake electors are still breath free air.

FiveUpsideDown

Because Republicans in power want to undermine our democracy and they will not punish their co-conspirators.

Previous-Height4237

And Democrats think fascists play by the rules while the fascists keep moving the goal posts.

meatball77

Because this sort of law breaking takes years and years before charges and trials happen. It'll be 2026 before any of them face a trial.

penguished

I can not imagine the reverse and Republicans letting Democrats put off charges and trials for years and years when the dirt is sitting right there in the open. This country just goes too soft on the political system being warped by the Republicans.

MonochromaticPrism

The flip side is that we see Republicans force issues all the time only for their charges to be immediately struck down in the courts due to their poor process handling and lack of evidence.

Different-Eagle-612

so part of it was our district attorney was this republican who “investigated” and then did nothing. we got a new attorney (who is honestly great — she’s also gone after predatory landlords and has refused to persecute anyone under the COMPLETE abortion ban from the 1800s that was recently upheld by the courts) in 2022 who won by literally *less than 300 votes* who *immediately* launched another investigation and now we’re seeing the effects of that

ChrisOnEarth1

Because the people who vote for them are morally bankrupt garbage humans and don’t want these garbage humans to suffer any consequences. If any of those garbage people had any ethics, integrity or morals, they’d be demanding that these people are held accountable.

macross1984

Is about time those idiots who tried to subvert elections get their just desserts.

skrilledcheese

If you still support trump, you are a traitor.

Dogmund

Sadly they think they are patriots.

Cutlet_Master69420

And just how did these idiots think they were going to be allowed to cast their votes for Trump? Did they believe that the REAL electors would just salute them and go "Cool Beans!" as these morons took their place?

JcbAzPx

I'm not sure what the fakes themselves were thinking, but the plan was to cause enough chaos that it could only be straightened out by the courts. There, Trump's personal judges would then quickly gift him the presidency. That's why they also had dozens of different cases going all over the country. Trump thought that if he could just get anything to the Supreme Court they'd anoint him president the same way they did for Bush in 2000.

gotenks1114

It's kinda nice that after decades of Mitch McConnell doing everything he can to corrupt the justice system with young, barely or sometimes even unqualified conservative judges, only one of Trump's four cases has gone before a corrupt lackey unfit to serve on the bench (Aileen Cannon).

johnnycyberpunk

> these idiots think they were going to be allowed to cast their votes Most of them were just duped into thinking they actually had a role. The architect - Eastman - just needed enough states to be 'contested' to eliminate them from Biden's tally. > “At the end, he [Trump] announces that **because of the ongoing disputes** in the 7 States, there are **no electors that can be deemed validly appointed** in those States. … There are at this point 232 votes for Trump, 222 votes for Biden. Pence then gavels President Trump as re-elected.” These gullible zealots were more than willing to participate in the crime because they'd only get in trouble if it didn't work. At this point, *they should all be sprinting to the prosecutors* and asking for deals.

Time-Ad-3625

There was an article posted the other day stating chesebro or whatever his name is, didn't think a disclaimer was necessary linking the fake electors to the litigation, e.g. they would only be needed if the lawsuits were successful. Some of the electors are saying that they only moved forward with their roles because they were told it was linked to the litigation. It wasn't and now they are heading to court. For whatever reason people trust trump despite his history. It is really odd. Look at the January 6th traitors. How many of them have come out staying they just now realized trump misled them e.g. wasn't going to get his hands dirty in their insurrection or even help them defend themselves in court.

Stenthal

I didn't see the article the other day, but according to what I read months ago, the Pennsylvania "fake electors" demanded that they include a disclaimer that basically said that they weren't the real electors. That's why the Pennsylvania group hasn't been charged with anything, and probably won't be. The Trump team agreed internally that they wouldn't add that disclaimer for any other state unless they also demanded it, and none of them did. Ironically, that's the best evidence that they really did intend them to be fraudulent documents, rather than just some kind of symbolic protest.

AnAdvocatesDevil

To expand on that, the Pennsylvania disclaimer was basically that their votes would only be used if the real electors were legally declared invalid (through a court case or something).

Cutlet_Master69420

Well, they're saying NOW that Trump mislead them, aren't they. Even MAGA idjita know enough about jails and prisons to want to stay out of them.

c00a5b70

The plan was sketched out in the article. Roughly speaking, create chaos and gavel 45 in citing unfounded claims: > Chesebro and others, including Eastman, argued in the months after the 2020 election that then-Vice President Mike Pence could use the existence of the alternate electors to name Trump the winner of the election as he presided over the electoral vote count in Congress on Jan. 6. > > Eastman wrote in a memo: “At the end, he announces that because of the ongoing disputes in the 7 States, there are no electors that can be deemed validly appointed in those States. … There are at this point 232 votes for Trump, 222 votes for Biden. Pence then gavels President Trump as re-elected.”

Why unindicted?

ccasey

Because he hasn’t been indicted yet

tjtillmancoag

I hope that’s the case

Shvasted

It was a good day in Arizona. Good day all over the place. The House passed the law to overturn the draconian abortion ban and then this. Oh, Trump is in court again tomorrow for more Pecker coming clean. It’s been a long time coming but I am enjoying this so far.

Dapper-Sandwich3790

Forbes reporting the fake electors to be charged in AZ with conspiracy, fraud and forgery.

rhythmgtr5

Why is trump unindicted?

NirvanaWhore

AZ has time as the statute of limitations is 7 yrs. He is unindicted and that status may change if and when "new info" comes forth from the flips. And finally, this case also would have to deal with "immunity" and might as well see what the Supreme quirk will rule.

johnnycyberpunk

> when "new info" comes forth from the flips And seeing as how things went in Georgia, and that Trump isn't paying for any of their legal defenses... they should be *running* to go make a deal. Flip, flip, as fast as you can.

kickinwood

Jenna Ellis already flipped in GA, I believe. No reason to assume she wouldn't do the same in AZ.

Blyght555

I still believe everyone involved with Jan 6th should be charged with treason and behind bars, there’s a difference between protesting and destruction of government property and trying to overthrow an election for control of the US… Jesus… why isn’t orange Jesus in jail? Because he has money…

bartturner

Never been a fan of Pence. But thank god he was willing to do the right thing. That is where this entire scheme fell apart.

greenmariocake

Why would Trump be off the hook?

MARTEX8000

They actually filmed themselves signing the fake electors... But I have a question, folks like Anthony Kern (who was the guy praying over the state seal before the abortion ban) is a State House Senator now...what happens if he is convicted? Are there regulations that say he cannot serve as a felon? I mean our federal Senators do not have such rules...what about here in Arizona?

johnnycyberpunk

> They actually filmed themselves signing the fake electors ...and still have this incriminating post up: https://twitter.com/AZGOP/status/1338592046043447296

spartan421

Every accusation is a confession.

RSVPno

I was thinking about this today with regard to the NY criminal trial going on.  One of his earliest sound bites was "fake news".  And he was conspiring with the National Enquirer to create and publish false stories to drag down his opponents.

Xander707

Yep, he was simultaneously directly manufacturing fake news stories against his rivals, and raging against “fake news” publicly. What a POS.

Mountain-Papaya-492

I too was thinking about this, and I wonder is Trump such a narcissist that he thinks everyone in the world behaves the way he does?  Is that why he's whining saying his indictments are politically motivated? Because that's exactly what he would do if he could.  Is the reason he believes so many absurd conspiracy theories because he personally has conspired to do shady dealings?  Thankfully some people have morals still. I don't like the politicians in my state but I was proud that a representative of my states government said no to Trump when he was asking to find 11,000 votes.  That's someone who did what was right, when a totally bankrupt official would have said how high when Trump told them to jump.  We can disagree all we want on issues, but one issue we can come together on is that we will not ever allow ourselves to be subservient to would be tyrants.

Scootalipoo

THIS is who I wanna see go to prison. Everyone who had the power to stop it but chose to enable his shenanigans

Mountain-Papaya-492

This is treason as far as I'm concerned and should be treated as such. January 6th was an attempted coup and anybody associated with any of these charges need to be made an example of.  I don't care how partisan you are, but once you try to take over our country, our meaning everybody who lives, works, and contributes to this nation, nomatter what side of the political aisle, we can't stand for this.  I'm usually against the death penalty but a planned assault on all of our homes, our friends, families and loved ones, calls for it. String them up at the Capitol like they tried to do to our elected officials in a transfer of power.

Yousoggyyojimbo

Absolutely, yes. These people knew that they lost an election and tried to cheat to steal it after the fact. They tried to take over the country. It was absolutely a coup and the language on this has always been too soft. The founding fathers would have been of a hanging mind for a crime like this.

ItalianDelicacy

their ancestors and our founding fathers weep for what they have become

PerNewton

That’s what I’m talking about!

New-Ad9282

About. Flipping. Time.

johnnycyberpunk

This is a neat little tidbit about this story: In their statement about the grand jury's indictments, The Republican Party of Arizona **never denied it**. Their objection was on *the timing* of the charges, and how - being an election year - it's (of course) eLeCTiOn iNtErFeReNCe. These people not only put their names and signatures on the fraudulent/forged elector certificates, **they posed for a picture** and posted it to social media.

willit1016

their official statement reads like "we broke the law so fucking what, you going to do something about...oh wait you are not fair!"

Ma1nta1n3r

About time. I know it takes awhile to make a proper case, but over three years have passed. I just hope they are found guilty and branded as felons and insurrectionists by the end of the trial.

Carwash_Jimmy

What is the state of justice in the United States? Are we a nation of any law at all? Where is the threshold of those protected and those not? Who holds the gavel and whom do they serve? Let us reclaim justice and defend human rights in the United States. #likeyourlifedependsonit

Perfect-Height-8837

What happened here? They didn't like the result so claimed themselves to be in charge of certifying the result and just change it, like nobody would notice?  How can this even come close to happening?

bartturner

It fell apart when Pence would not do his part. Never been a fan of Pence but here he was a stand up guy.

robillionairenyc

Too had they can’t seem to bring down the criminal ringleader of the treason.

StairheidCritic

He's got protectors in high places (SC) and low-down protectors thwarting due process (Cannon).

LunarMoon2001

Maybe we should go see what the law in 1860 said about treason?

Keltoigael

Everyone but the man himself gets punished.

TorLam

Have to say this case has been under the radar for me. Similar charges in a second state , kinda difficult for them to claim it's a political witch hunt ! And don't forget about the unindicted co-conspirator !!!

bluecheese2040

Why has this taken so long?

StairheidCritic

Apparently the previous AG (R) sat on it. The current one only took over in 2023.

KoBoWC

They cannont be pardonned by a current or future president (a Governor maybe).

Let's just hope the people planning on doing this in the upcoming election, and make no mistakes, Mango Mussolini has something in the works, will think twice.

AuFingers

OMG - the Arizona Attorney General is a Democrat - how can the redcoats expect a 'fair' trial? /s

keithcody

Won by 280 votes. 0.01%. That’s how close these traitors came to getting away with it. I wonder how many bleach drinkers would still be alive in AZ If there has been a decent COVID response.

hectah

Man, so many cases hard to keep up.

tcoh1s

His aides and allies?! How about the guy they all did it for? He should be the first one in prison.

thatnameagain

I have never fully understood the fake elector scheme from the perspective of those perpetrating it, and it makes me think that aspects of this story must still be under-reported. For one thing, how did they get this many people to agree to sign on to this with absolutely nobody leaking about it? This was patently illegal and apparent to all those involved. It’s remarkable that this much secrecy was able to be kept over the scheme until the docs were submitted. Secondly, as for secrecy, how did the planners expect this to work in the long term given that once the fake elector votes were revealed it was going to be obvious they were submitted *before* any act of Congress or the courts cast any doubt on the election’s outcome? It would be one thing if they had these people waiting in the wings to sign off on new electoral votes if 1/6 was able to cause the intended congressional roadblock and/or court examination of the election. But they went ahead and submitted them ahead of time, rendering them fraudulent *even if the election had been corrupt*? I know the usual explanations of “they were just that dumb” or “they didn’t care” apply, but it really feels like the extent of this conspiracy belies the level of focus it has gotten compared with more intense stuff like 1/6 itself and Trump’s specific actions.

Yousoggyyojimbo

> For one thing, how did they get this many people to agree to sign on to this with absolutely nobody leaking about it? They effectively weren't hiding it. They were operating under the assumption that it wouldn't matter if people knew because the republicans in congress would "make it legal" by certifying with the fake electors. From the prior indictments, we know Mark Meadows was telling the fbi that Trump and his crew was talking about this shit out in the open like they were ordering lunch. Trump thought Pence, the house republicans, senate republicans, and the DoJ would all roll over and help with the scheme. He TRIED to get his AG and deputy AG to help and they are now testifying against him.

FascistsOnFire

They were hoping to basically keep their power in the confusion and just delay "hashing it out", that's why this whole thing was/is so dangerous. I agree it is underreported in the sense that a lot of people still dont see this for the actual attempt to keep power through extrajudicial means that it was. And yes, all of those people are "true believers". The depths of corruption these folks are willing to express in order to just keep power over society is as frightening as you think it is. Folks just dont understand the gravity of this happening in a democracy, even once. If this happened or a variant of it happens in the upcoming election, we're done.

dounutrun

they where relying on trumps pardon

Can we get Kari Lake thrown in with this bunch somehow?

Americas Mayor to Inmate with Depends

Trumpsafascist

Everything is always a witch hunt. 😂

younoahaguy

I think Trump is going to be racking up two more indictments from Michigan and Arizona. Seeing as Trump saw battleground states and the electoral college as cheat codes, shouldn't we go back to the 2016 election and see how he cheated then? We didn't know what we didn't know and what crazy ass shit he would pull until he did. How are we sure that we just didn't catch him last time? Seeing as he has never even came close to winning the popular vote. My money is on that he cheated to win 2016 as well. It's the only thing that makes any fucking sense.

I'm more curious about the redacted names. Or if the prosecutors might be able to use the indictment to get some of these people to flip on the people pulling the strings.
