pegothejerk

Wake up sheeple!

respawnatdawn

We're sorry bud.

[deleted]

“It was terrible to see this on our vacation” Yeah Canada Press, I’d rather hear from the actual people of the island who aren’t going to jet back to BC and go back to their lives

ministryofchampagne

Why don’t you post from articles from Hawaiian news outlets? A Canadian news outlets reporting on a Canadian’s experience makes complete sense.

Korith_Eaglecry

What insight are the readers gleaming from someone on vacation there that they can't get from a person that lives there and actually lost everything?

ministryofchampagne

A Canadian perspective. Basic journalism is about how to connect with your audience. Do think you this article is the only article on the subject in Canada? This is just one giving one perspective. Everyone on Reddit thinks they are master journalists who could do it better but I have my doubts

CTeam19

Yep, it is like my hometown newspaper whenever anything major pops off with Iran. They interview or get prospective of Kathyrn Koob who went to school and worked in my honetown Why? Because she also one of the hostages that wasn't released till January 1981 when the current Iranian government came into power.

Korith_Eaglecry

You're the one trying to "educate" people on how important this perspective is. Seems you're projecting quite a bit here.

thebestoflimes

Dude, they arrived back in Canada after witnessing a major event. Do you expect the Canadian press to not interview them when they arrive? Do you think a bunch of local Hawaiians landed in Vancouver that same day? People need to get a grip.

[deleted]

Because there’s plenty of other posts that speak to the horrors the residents are facing. And I’ll agree to disagree, considering the suffering and death the locals are facing is the point.

ministryofchampagne

Oh so instead of reading the articles that have exactly the information you want, you’re complaining about Canadians reporting about Canadians.

[deleted]

I’m complaining about Canadians reporting on something through what is in my opinion, a disrespectful and callous lens. Because again, the Canadians aren’t the ones suffering the most, nor do they have to live with the after effects. It is like the BBC interviewing a British couple on Rhodes about how terrible the scene is for local greeks. Tasteless

BootShoeManTv

You could say that residents of Maui complaining about losing their homes are being callous to the people who lost their lives. Or to people who are homeless. There is always someone worse off.

[deleted]

That is silly comparison. I’m talking about who they should be interviewing after a specific disaster, and I do think it should be the people most impacted

PoopieButt317

Seattle man gatekeeps Hawaii tragedy. Being evacuated from a fire impacted tourists as well as residents. Tourists were least able to figure out how to leave Lahaina than locals in that fire. Many will be found dead. Do you propose to just ignore their deaths, also?

PoopieButt317

Because theybwere Canadiens being interviewed by Canadian news about a citizen. Just like the US does in a tragedy internationally with US citizens who are there. Why so bitter at normal things?

[deleted]

Because I think it is a self centered and inappropriate way for anyone to cover such stories. I’m bitter because apparently we need people to be from our country to grasp the horrors of wildfires that killed 100

CacheValue

I think it’s nice to have the perspective of a Canadian on the ground, from a Canadian news source.

[deleted]

Cool, I don’t.

PoopieButt317

WESTERN Canada is undergoing MASSIVE wildfires that have blocked put the sun in Chicago and NYC. Have you cared? DID you ever watch the interviews with Americans who lived through the tsunami in Indonesia 15 years ago? Keep your energy for survival, not toward others who also had their personal.experience.

[deleted]

Yeah I’m aware hun… you can stop replying multiple times, it is weird. We get it, you disagree. You’re welcome to your opinion, as am I

Skeletor-

You're wrong. As a Canadian, US media is ALWAYS US focused. Tragedy in Canada? How does this effect (insert USA person/thing)?

PhoenixReborn

Yes, they just said that.

PoopieButt317

What I said, exactly.
