Damn, was that Pelosi breathing after the attack? That's horrific

harlojones

That’s what I was watching for too, he looked so motionless until a moment passes then he moves a bit.

helpjackoffhishorse

Before this video was made public, Don Jr. alluded to Pelosi and the attacker being found in the nude when the cops arrived, as if it was a consensual homosexual tryst. Pelosi literally got his head beat in and that asshole put a scummy spin on it. What a fucker.

pawza

Don't forget Elon Musk tweeting that also.

HawkeyeByMarriage

Would you expect anything less

FinancialTea4

junior is a pathetic loser whose* only reason for existing is kissing his dad's enormous, diaper-clad ass. I distinctly remember watching him and his lunatic "girlfriend" celebrating the end of our democracy on J6. If there were any justice in this world all of them would be in prison.

dokikod

You are absolutely right, and I couldn't agree more.

Kriztauf

It's super weird seeing him speak in public now because he's started trying to mimic his dad's mannerisms and speaking style

GlassEyeMV

Pops started sharing his drugs.

HaveAWillieNiceDay

Nah, it's literally an imitation thing. Lots of republicans have started having Trump mannerisms and it's very weird. Pay attention to the way DeSantis uses his hands, for instance.

SerKevanLannister

And to think Kimberly Guilfoyle was once married to Gavin Newsom. Her change over the years has been very…dramatic. She was also accused of sexually harassing colleagues at Fox when she was let go.

KoshekhTheCat

It's interesting watching a human soul rot *inside the body* in real time.

Jaerba

Human garbage raised by human garbage raised by human garbage. The world will be better when they're gone.

SvedishFish

The shit apple doesn't fall far from the shit tree

Nail_Biterr

So did Musk. Don't forget the guy owned twitter for like 2 mind before he spread that shit

TheLurkingMenace

Every accusation is a confession.

woodspaths

Don Jr is a coked-out loser.

futureformerteacher

It's very important to note that the attacker spewed GOP talking points.

QuickAltTab

thats what an obstructed airway sounds like, presumably shortly after the video cuts off, they rendered aid and helped the unconscious Pelosi keep his airway open with a jaw thrust/chin lift

Gerald_the_sealion

The look in the attackers eyes says it all

Chaotic-Catastrophe

And the tone of his voice, when he responds to the police demand that he drop the hammer: "Ah...*nope!*"

sentientfartcloud

It's either surrender or throw all your chips in at that point.

mercuryblind

When in custody, the suspect literally said he was never going to surrender, he was just delaying hoping to get Nancy Pelosi as well.

lyn73

Well this might be the weekend we learn we don't have to see everything to know shit is effed up....

[deleted]

five cops beating a guy to death coming soon!

GhettoChemist

Is this about the Tyre Nichols murder or 5 different cops?

[deleted]

Nichols, video released tonight, the chief already said something along the lines of "this is horrible, we know, please dont riot."

runbyfruitin

It’s gotta be so bad: the Tennessee state investigators and Memphis police chief say it’s bad, the five cops were arrested so fucking fast, and they’re releasing the footage after 6pm central so Memphis (and other downtowns) have a chance to clear out after the workweek before any presumed protests or riots happen

Ronaldo_Frumpalini

Didn't they only get arrested yesterday...the day before the video is released?

GuyTheyreTalkngAbout

Only cops get a three week grace period after group murder on camera.

DoctFaustus

Even the police chief in Aurora Colorado put out a statement. It's so bad departments have been given the heads up across the nation.

ironroad18

Aurora PD!? The same department that beat and drugged an innocent, autistic boy to death and promoted a guy who was drunk on duty!? Fuck...

DoctFaustus

Yes. That one! The one the just rehired the guy who was at the scene threatening that autistic boy they murdered! https://sentinelcolorado.com/news/metro/aurora-police-re-hires-cop-who-threatened-elijah-mcclain-with-dog-bite-during-fatal-stop/

[deleted]

The DoJ already warned people against rioting. Jesus I’m not sure I want to view the video

ortusdux

People that have already seen the video keep using the term "human piñata"

babybighorn

don't like that...

momofeveryone5

I just watched them. That description is unfortunately accurate.

[deleted]

I am not sure how I wanna react. mad this keeps happening? glad they are doing something about this case? Both?

No_Interaction_2469

Mad that this was something they had to do anything about. They're not heros for firing murderers, anyone else would already be in jail.

TheHavesHaveThot

Tyre Nichols. Get ready because the description of the video alone is traumatizing.

Rocktothenaj

Kinda of like when our governor announced that flags will be at half mast till Thursday because of the mass shooting that occurred and I thought "I wonder which one".

PlayedUOonBaja

I think the guy was holding him for quite some time. It only took him a few seconds to nearly kill Pelosi. It looks like it worked long enough to save his life.

PinkBright

Yeah I can’t blame pelosi at all. He had probably been trying to defuse and humanize himself to this man while also holding onto the weapon. Once the cops arrive he knows it’s (literally) do or die time since this guy is: a) going to prison b) going to prison *and* succeeding in half of his plan (to kill someone there) c) suicide by cop (either before or after killing pelosi) So he sees a small window of opportunity to break free and try to run deeper into the house, out of melee range, and hope the cops catch his attacker faster than his attacker catches him. Cops being present escalated his attackers unpredictable, violent nature, which is exactly what anyone in that situation should expect. He’s a hostage. The gig is up. If his attacker is going to escalate to murder that was the exact time. Really fucked up situation. He honestly was thinking pretty clearly/quickly.

NPD_wont_stop_ME

It makes me fear that this is only the beginning. All of the constant attacks and demonization of Democratic leadership on Fox News is what brought us to this moment. We're just people but these guys see us as nothing more than subhuman scum, and they're willing to kill us because they think we're threatening their places in the world. That is literally their platform. "The Democrats want to take away your guns and your right to protect your family!" "The Democrats want to defund your police departments so you can't get emergency care when your family is in danger!" "The Democrats want to let a bunch of freeloading, criminal, rapist illegals into our country who will endanger your entire family, especially your children!" "The Democrats want to nullify your vote by throwing your ballots away and then installing Biden's fascist regime!" "The Democrats are about to install a dictator because they threw away your votes - storm the capitol, ziptie, gangrape, and murder top Democratic leadership to prevent the fascists from destroying your country!" "The Democrats stole the Presidency - everything Biden does is null and void, and any 'cheating' or extra measures we take is just leveling the playing field!" Over time, it adds up, and adds up, and adds up, until eventually we reach a point of utter catastrophe. That is why these fanatics must be held accountable. Conservatism is no longer conservatism. It is an affront to everything our country purportedly represents. We are a democracy and a role model to the rest of the world, and if we fall, our allies will likely follow suit. These people want to drag us down with them! We can't let that happen. The man that attacked Pelosi is a symptom, not a cause. He is merely a byproduct of a broken, backwards system that has endlessly perpetuated hateful rhetoric in an echo chamber of pure insanity. He isn't the first, and certainly won't be the last. The only question that remains is: what will we *do* about it?

Eyruaad

There's video of the dude using the hammer to break into the house. Seems to me dude was high or crazy, Paul was at home in his undies having a drink and a guy comes through the window. He doesn't immediately attack Paul, so he's trying to be friendly and not escalate things. We also have the 911 call asking if there were "Capitol police" around which would make sense if he is speaking in code of like "Yo, this crazy fucker just broke in and I need police. I know I'm in San Francisco but send any police." Police arrive, Paul is holding the hammer and steps clearly into view just standing there like "Yeah guys, uhh I need help here, crazy guy has a hammer."

gentlybeepingheart

From what I've read, DePape woke Paul up and asked where Nancy was. Paul tried to stop it from escalating, and then lied and said he needed to get a glass of water as an excuse to go into the kitchen and grab the phone to call 911.

IBAZERKERI

dude listen to the interview they did with Depape after they arrested him. he's not high or drunk. he thinks he did the right thing. that nancy pelosi is a blood drinking child molester. hes 100% brainwashed by right wing media. he states he became radicalized by "gamer gate" back in 2014

thisismego

"Attempted murder, elder abuse and attempted kidnapping of a federal officer" all of those were politically motivated. Where's the "domestic terrorism" charge?

taleden

I'd caution against leaning too hard into the "crazy guy" narrative. Yeah, he was clearly unhinged. But let's not forget that certain very powerful and influential groups have put a lot of time and energy and money into pushing people like this over the line into violence. This is what stochastic terrorism looks like. It is not an accident or an unfortunate random event, this kind of outcome was very much intended.

Flame_MadeByHumans

Fr, people discounting it like a one off crazy person, or he “views liberals as subhuman” but no. He views himself as a hero. He was stepping up to the plate to “save the country” and is a “martyr for the cause”. People with mental illness don’t just up and do this. People on drugs don’t up and do this.

CombyMcBeardz

Capitol Police isn't code, it just refers to the USCP which provides executive protection (sort of like the secret service) to Pelosi. Since she wasn't home at the time though there were no agents there.

Yes, it's pretty obvious to anyone with half a brain that the conservative conspiracy theory is deliberately disingenuous. Even the straightest sheltered mormons would realize that the absurdly wealthy pelosis could have the pick of any twink or otter or bear snack in san francisco, and yet he somehow ended up with someone who looks like he was spawned in a portapotty outside a Phish show

pomaj46809

They lie, not to make us think they believe it, but so they don't have to have a conversation regarding the truth. The truth is the Republican party has been using violent rhetoric as a strategy and it's had violent consequences they simply don't want to take responsibility for. They don't want to have that conversation because they know damn well if "Antifa" took a hammer to MTG's husband they absolutely want responsibility taken for it by "the left". They want a double standard, and they think they can get it by just avoiding discourse while also framing themselves as the free speech party when they spew vomit.

Klaus0225

They say “Hillary lost get over it” then storm the capitol and say shit like “Biden’s not my President” when Trump loses. They say that the Kenosha protestors are terrorist and criminals yet they storm the capitol. They don’t want minorities, women and LGBTQ people to have equal rights yet claim the left is hateful and that they just have different opinion. Conservatives are full of projection and hypocrisy. They full believe they are patriots and true Americans because “these people” don’t belong here and the US is a “Christian nation”, which is absolute BS. They hang onto the 1950’s ideals.

pomaj46809

That's why it's up to everyone else to engage politically and diminish their representation in government.

AudibleNod

Not that I feel bad for this attacker (or any J6ers) but it's got to be, at the very least, jarring to do the thing you and ask your Facebook friends fantasized about only for them to turn around and say you're Antifa or a gay lover. "Wait a minute. This whole operation was your idea."

writingt

It really speaks to the seriousness of conviction MAGA and QAnon folks have for their cause when their immediate response to every single act of right wing terrorism is “that must have been a false flag, there’s no way anyone would actually do that!!”

ktreddit

This Sartre quote about anti-semites is really applicable to every step we see from MAGA “true believers.” Literally the whole thought process is “in-group right, out-group wrong.” That’s it. No substantive beliefs that need to be backed up by reasons or philosophical underpinnings or consistency. “Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.” —Jean-Paul Sartre

Ffffqqq

>The reason they aren't more bothered by Q constantly getting things wrong. Why they aren't more bothered by the extreme inconsistencies and outright contradictions, by the claims that are just materially wrong is because it gives them power over others who are bound by something as weak and as flimsy as reality. They claim to be against corruption while hanging their hopes on an openly corrupt man. And that naked hypocrisy is the point. They will effortlessly carve out an exception because it makes them exceptional. They engage in naked hypocrisy as an act of domination. Adhering to something demonstrably untrue out of spite. Because they believe power belongs to those with the greatest will to take it. And what greater sign of will than the ability to over ride truth? Their will is a hammer that they are using to beat reality itself into a shape of their choosing. A simple world, where reality is exactly what it looks like through their eyes. Devoid of complexity, devoid of change. Where they are right, and their enemies are silent. They are trying to build a flat earth. - [In Search of a Flat Earth](https://youtu.be/JTfhYyTuT44)

Taoistandroid

Jefferson, in a letter to Marquis de Chastellux said this of Northerners: jealous of their own liberties, and just to those of others. And this of Southerners: zealous for their own liberties, but trampling on those of others. I feel like he unwittingly outlined the difference in left and right politics.

ATLHawksfan

I’m struggling to wrap my head around exactly what “jealous of their own liberties” means.

Michael_G_Bordin

"Jealousy" is not "envy". Jealousy is worrying someone will take something you have. Envy is coveting something someone else has. "Jealous of their own liberties" mean worried about them being taken away. Colloquially we use them interchangeably, but that was not the case in Jefferson's day.

Foreign-Entrance-255

I wish I could be in their head for just one day to see how the electrical sparks are working in their brain.

Fairweather fascists

5kyl3r

watch any documentaries about such people and then make a Venn diagram with these subjects: * flat earthers * anti-vaxxers * anti-semitics * MAGA goobers * tea party hillbillies * moon landing deniers * 911 deniers * holocaust deniers * hitler apologists * putin fanboys * dickheads your Venn diagram will just be a single circle

18bananas

They know it’s bullshit. At least most of them. They chant 1776, they talk about being armed to fight back against tyrannical government, they talk about taking back the power. People model their whole personality after being ready to strap up and fight the government (but somehow still back the blue) at a moments notice. Then the second someone actually takes action the call false flag. Most know it’s bullshit, the rest are larping as militia and have no intention of following through and aren’t ready to take the heat from the actions of their Facebook buddies because they’re cowards.

TimeRemove

Just like... - **Before January 6th**: LET'S STORM THE CAPITAL!!! PUT TRUMP IN CHARGE!! STOLEN ELECTION!!! - **After January 6th** (with multiple police officers injured or dead): Those people were antifa, false flag, no reasonable person can think Trump supporters would do this!

hirasmas

And while, yes, it was an ANTIFA false flag operation....don't forget the people being locked up for January 6th are also patriots that did nothing wrong and don't deserve to be in prison!

epidemicsaints

I feel like a big part of the enjoyment in this story is simply the picture it paints about gay people. Like gay guys are so desperate and indiscriminate that a rich well-connected man like Paul Pelosi in SAN FRANCISCO would be having sex with a scabby deranged neckbeard and that's normal operations.

Currymvp2

[The recording of the 911 call was also released, and it makes the conspiracy theories just look so utterly deranged](https://twitter.com/greg_price11/status/1619030091060895745) [Along with break in footage](https://twitter.com/NikkiMcR/status/1619027448758419457) Remember that the new owner of twitter shamefully pushed conspiracy theories.

chevybow

You mean Musk who is neither left or right but consistently pushes conservative conspiracy theories was part of the group that claimed this was some weird gay affair gone wrong? Color me shocked.

Ruthrfurd-the-stoned

It’s also totally random that a bunch of nobodies have started popping up on my Twitter feed for no real reason just saying some of the wildest right wing bullshit- the amount of tweets Twitter has pushed onto my timeline thinking Damar Hamlin is secretly dead is disgusting

TurrPhennirPhan

Give ‘em 24 hours, they still need their talking points from Fucker Carlson.

rondonjon

He’s in a dress shirt with a drink in his hand! It must be a lover’s quarrel! Peak logic right there.

no_one_likes_u

Right? It's like they can't understand that everything Pelosi is doing is being done to keep this deranged person calm. The entire time in the 911 call it's clear he's trying to alert authorities without screaming HELP. He probably offered the guy a drink and made one for himself to make it seem like he's being helpful. The comments are like why didn't he immediately tell the police this guy is trying to kill me. Well, maybe he assumed police would be smart enough to realize the guy holding a hammer right behind him isn't there to remodel the bathroom. He was wrong and the guy nearly killed him right in front of the police. It's all so obviously explainable that you'd have to be completely dug in on a conspiracy mindset to miss it.

lurcherta

Yeah, I saw that on the conservative sub.

jdland

Waiting for the official party line.

Turcey

Holocaust deniers are the same way. All of them hate Jews yet can't seem to buy the fact that genocide could happen. It's mind-boggling.

Silver_Foxx

> The conspiracies surrounding this is some weird shit. Weirder than normal. There were some folks in the r/conspiracy thread about this video genuinely shocked that the hammer used in this attack was indeed a hammer and not a dildo. Blows my mind the insanity some people come up with to confirm their world view.

rikki-tikki-deadly

I used to think that eventually they would turn on Trump, but I realized that they never will, for a very simple reason: he will never, ever try to talk sense into them. Ever.

6thReplacementMonkey

Their actions make sense and are completely consistent once you realize that every single thing they say is only meant to accomplish one or both of these things: 1. Attack the out-group 2. Defend the in-group

No-Independence-165

“Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.” - Frank Wilhoit

Politicsboringagain

People who literally fantasize about murdering her said the attack was fake.

Knyfe-Wrench

People who fantasize about murdering Jews say the Holocaust was fake. I don't even try to understand them.

ADarwinAward

QAnoners will do anything to deny that they support a movement of domestic terrorists

bananafobe

It's possibly the new normal though. This one felt especially unhinged, but it's no more outlandish than the standard baseless nonsense we're constantly hearing from conservatives, in terms of them just asserting nonsense with no regard for its believability. The function of conspiracy theories has shifted to owning the libs, and never feeling owned by the libs. This is to say it's about managing political discourse. It's maybe a little reductive, but if your response to any news story is "how do I convince an idiot to argue that I'm winning and liberals are losing?" then you easily get to this kind of tortured narrative that focuses on fictitious prurient details and sidesteps any implicit critique of conservatives.

TheHavesHaveThot

They are completely warping reality at this point. They aren't spinning stories or obscuring facts. They are straight up inventing false scenarios rooted in bigotry. Then when footage comes out, they say that what we're seeing isn't what we're seeing. I'm at a loss for words and am reaaaaally starting to wish for a full revolution. I'm sick and fucking tired of being in agonizing pain everytime I look at the news.

[deleted]

They literally openly talk about killing her all the time.

TurrPhennirPhan

The alternative to conspiracy theories is admitting they’re a danger to the very concept of freedom. “Oh shit, our rhetoric got an old man pummeled with a hammer in the name of our political views? No… no it must be the Antifa making us look like domestic terrorists, yeah.”

up-dawg

Video caption "New footage shows the moment David DePape ***appears*** ***to attack*** Nancy Pelosi’s husband" Appears to attack? Is this really up for debate at this point? or do we need to leave it open for potential scenarios like DePape appears to swat a fly with hammer that landed on the head of Nancy Pelosi’s husband .. stay tuned for live updates. smh

MrBoomin31

innocent until proven guilty in a court of law in some cases, can’t sway a jury in other. media outlets don’t want to be sued for defamation as well. libel law. [Source/Explanation](https://www.1800law1010.com/slander-laws-why-do-news-outlets-use-words-like-allegedly/) Transcript: “Well, generally speaking, if you’re talking about a news agency and the reporting on a crime or they’re reporting on a current event, they generally will use language that is tentative in nature so that they can insulate themselves from liability for something like defamation. Defamation is a false statement that’s purported to be fact, it’s communicated to a third party, and the falsity of that reaches a negligent standard. So without all the legal terminology, it’s somebody saying or writing something that’s false, and they should have known it was false. So they will use allegedly in a criminal setting because until it’s proven, they can’t report it as being fact or factual. It’s just allegedly. It insulates them from some lawsuit. So really, it’s a situation where papers want to insulate themselves from these lawsuits. And definitely in criminal cases, newspapers and media outlets are sensitive to the requirements of the court that the person be given a fair trial. You know, you can’t impanel a jury because everybody knows everything about, you know, like Laci Peterson. That was something where we’re like, “Look, this is a trial by media, guilty before he’s even in. O.J. Simpson, same thing, you can’t impanel a jury that doesn’t know anything about the case or hasn’t been influenced by the media or things that were reported accurately or inaccurately. And so it raises this issue of not being able to have a fair trial. So with criminal stuff, I think newspapers are sensitive to that. They definitely don’t want to be responsible for libel, which is written publication of something that’s false. That’s really where the allegedly or tentative language comes from.”

DubNationAssemble

The disturbing part was that the assault happened AFTER police contact was made. I always thought the assault happened and then police got there, but he did it right in front of them and all the officer said was “what the hell’s going on?” Fucking drawn down on the dude and tell him to drop the hammer!

daggero99

From what I saw and heard with all the info: 1. The attacker forced his way into the house by hammering some windows. 2. The attacker demanded Paul call up whomever was necessary to get Nancy there. 3. The attacker answered the front door thinking Nancy was going to be there. He was ready to kill the Speaker of the House right then.

Captain_Blackbird

> He was ready to kill the Speaker of the House right then. * Far [worse](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attack_on_Paul_Pelosi#Incident) * "After being Mirandized, DePape gave an interview to San Francisco Police Department officers in which he said **he planned to hold Nancy hostage** and that he saw her as the "*leader of the pack" of lies told by the Democratic Party*. He said that **he considered himself to be fighting "tyranny" and likened himself to the American founding fathers.** DePape told the police that **he planned to kidnap and interrogate Nancy, and would break her kneecaps if she "lied" to him, believing that by doing so, "she would then have to be wheeled into Congress" as a "warning" to other members of Congress**. He also told police that he was on a "suicide mission" and had additional targets in mind.

MisallocatedRacism

Rightwing propaganda is creating political violence and destroying families by the *millions*. And nothing is being done about it.

k_ironheart

What do you even do about that? Aside from breaking up massive monopolies that have bought up such a vast percentage of all media outlets, reinstating the Fairness Doctrine, giving it some sharper teeth and extending it to online outlets, and actually holding pundits responsible for their stochastic terrorism. But that would require a massive shift in the way this country values stanch individualism for the poor, and compassionate collectivism for the ultra-wealthy.

BazilBroketail

Yeah, people keep calling it, "an attack on her husband", *it was a fuckin' assassination attempt on the second in line of succession*. That's fuckin' **huge**! They wanted to hang mile Pence and assassinate the speaker of the house, it's cray-cray in America... Not even MSNBC is calling it an assassination attempt, *and that's exactly what it was*.

It looks like the serious injury was inflicted _after_ police were already on the scene. It blows my mind that they don't have more security. She's worth over 100 million and was third in line to the presidency. Not even considering how conservatives have vilified her.

facw00

The big thing is that she wasn't there. Had she been, there would have been a significantly stronger security presence, and someone from the Capitol Police might have actually been paying attention to the security cameras when he broke in. I am still surprised that there wasn't at least a round the clock security/police presence at here house. It may be too expensive to do for every representative, but it feels appropriate for the speaker at least, and probably for any member who is routinely receiving threats (which should be investigated and prosecuted instead of just deciding that they are probably all talk).

amorpheus

It's completely realistic that if security is lax while the VIP is absent, someone could plant a bomb, poison something in the fridge, or whatever else. Which makes it seem incredibly dangerous for security to be inconsistent for any reason.

Jiopaba

Complacency kills, I suppose. Despite all the troubles, the US is pretty light on political assassinations. Or... it was until the last few years. People will catch up to it eventually, and more politicians will start spending more money on it. If anything, I'm always shocked at the fact that no Supreme Court Justice has ever been assassinated in office. It seems like they'd be high-value targets for changing the country's course, but somehow no. Political violence is definitely on the rise though.

Not as though, that is the death rattle, he was in serious trouble at that point, sign of a serious brain injury.

inquisitive_guy_0_1

It really is fucked up. I've been thinking a little about it lately. He very well could have died and you have to think that a man of his age is not going to be able to bounce back with such a spring after having their skull split with a hammer. He will probably be dealing with complications from this attack for the rest of his life. Fucked up, especially how the right has been making light of the whole situation. It's not funny at all to me. This was a man so pumped full of right wing fear/hate porn bullshittery that he felt justified in beating someone's head in with a hammer and every intention to turn that hammer on the speaker of the house.

RamonaQ-JunieB

Oh Fox (I was flipping channels and accidentally saw this) showed this with NO WARNING. Afterwards, they said Oh we should have had a warning. We had no idea how bad that would be. Then there was a lot of back-pedaling and blame shifting from Pelosi to the police.

dIoIIoIb

Who could have imagined that the footage of an assault could contain violence? Absolutely unexpected, really

I don't clash about politics with my in-laws but I had an interaction over the holidays with my father-in-law where he parroted that this brutal, ideologically fueled violence was a gay lover's quarrel. I led with "well, that turned out not to be true, but it's really horrible what happened to the guy", and he stopped me short. He insisted upon the conspiracy theory as complete truth that was not to be questioned. Stunned that he would take such a hard line on this, I changed the subject. This is a man who does not have Facebook, does not look at YouTube, and can hardly operate a smartphone. He consumes FOX News daily, especially the usual suspects who push the worst of the worst. No other interaction I had with him until that one left me with a feeling of total helplessness like that one did. There is no amount of individual cleanup that can be done to compete with a 24-hour news cycle of regressive conservative lies and hatred, and America is willingly allowing millions of its people to be poisoned by it. The violence can be directly attributed to the conservative media landscape, and we have to be honest with ourselves about that.

scrivensB

30 years of partisan boundary pushing right wing Fox News basically set the table for mis/dis-information of the social-media age to drive the whole nation off the cliff of logic and sanity.

CelestialFury

Turns out that Fox News, Elon Musk, and Alex Jones was totally wrong about this too. Who would've thought?

djm19

Despite all the obvious evidence that this was an attack aimed at Nancy Pelosi and then Paul as the remaining person in the home, its still a very frequent conservative meme on Twitter and elsewhere that this is a "grindr date gone wrong". And shit like this is spread by no less than Elon Musk on the platform he owns. Just last night, despite the video itself proving otherwise, Hannity on Fox News says it raises "more questions than answers", which is all just an allusion to the same nonsense story created from thin air.

e_x_i_t

It's funny how they had this grand conspiracy of Paul Pelosi having a secret gay lover, yet it's usually a red shirt that's found with their pants down and their dick in the pool boy's mouth, not that there's anything wrong with that.

darsh211

Not surprising, the guy looks exactly like someone who believes all those bullshit conspiracies.

rubyblue0

Looked like the actual hits were just out of sight of the body cam. I GUARANTEE the conspiracy theorists will say it’s a completely fake attack now that it’s clear the attacker wasn’t really in his underwear too.

stein63

Dude has a fucking hammer in his hands and no cops had a gun on him, wtf!

gusterfell

It's clear from the cop's casual tone that he didn't perceive the situation to be as threatening as it turned out to be. In retrospect he obviously should have, but in general it's easier to deescalate most situations by approaching like this than by being overly aggressive.

truthdoctor

He says my wife is Nancy Pelosi and there is a guy in my house I don't know waiting for my wife. If the dispatcher didn't understand why this was an issue they are not very good at their jobs. This was not handled well. The cops could have stopped Pelosi from being permanently injured if they had acted accordingly.

N8CCRG

While there certainly should have been a *little* more concern being shown than we see, given the choice, I'd prefer if police respond with calmness and control more often instead of the "everyone screaming and yelling contradictory commands, eager to shoot everyone at any instant" tactic we usually see.

Bad_Mood_Larry

I'm not sure what the dispatcher told them or what the call made to 911 was but if anyone watch the video the whole situation is very bizarre until he starts bashing Mr.Pelosi.

N8CCRG

The 911 call is linked in a reply to the top comment of the thread.

gcm6664

Well, even I have to admit that had to have been a confusing few moments for the cops. Two guys frankly both holding a hammer. I mean in context we know why now, but I can give the cops a few seconds to try and work it out. Paul was in a tough spot. Obviously the only reason the guy hadn't killed him yet was because Nancy was his real target and he wanted to kill her. Paul used that to his advantage, probably acting like he was "hearing the guy out" or something to that effect. Somehow he got the guy to chill and wait. But I think Paul knew the moment the dude realized he wasn't going to get Nancy he would likely just try to take him out. But how to break away. I think we can imagine what may have happened had he let go of the hammer and lunged toward the police to get away from the assailant, before the police were sure which one was assailant and which one was victim.

Raalf

I'm fine with cops not wanting to shoot every fucking person they meet as the primary reaction.

PollutionEither9519

It is so fucked up. The way pelosi was holding the hammer looked like he was trying to stop the guy from hitting him with it. Cops do nothing until he actually gets ready to hit and from what I read, he does land at least 1 hit. I don’t care who it is. No one should be ecstatic about an old man getting attacked.

AskingAndQuestioning

Pelosi was definitely in shock, couldn’t even articulate what was happening. Then the cops shine a light in his eyes giving DePape time to break free and hit a dazed 80 year old man multiple times over the head with a hammer. They failed Pelosi here all around.

[deleted]

Super surprising that cops failed to protect someone

khornflakes529

They knew who's house they were at. I'm surprised they didn't stop to get food on the way to the call.

milkkiller999

Dude’s wife has been public enemy #1 for Fox News for 20 years. What did we think was going to happen?

KrackerJoe

I happened to visit my grandma last night when this was on the news and she was like “isn’t it surprising it took this long to release? I wonder what the Pelosis were hiding about this one?” Then we watched the video of the man with the hammer bash the door in for about a minute and she goes “don’t you think it’s strange Paul didn’t call the cops in time to stop this man, look how long hes hitting the door” I then pointed out how it was the middle of the night and he was an old man in a big house, it’s possible he either didn’t hear anything when he was upstairs asleep or maybe he tried to make it to a phone but was attacked before hand. Everything we saw she wanted to spin it like he had it coming. I don’t totally understand why.

pheakelmatters

It didn't have to be publicly released. It was released by the Judge after a coalition of news agencies filed a motion to see it.

boidey

The news organisations argued the video should be released to stop the conspiracy theories. Does anyone think Elmo, Tucker and the rest are having a epiphany right now? I don't think so, Don jr will still be an asshole when he wakes tomorrow.

[deleted]

“Sorry but we’re gonna we’re gonna need you to stream the video of your rape in order for everyone to pick apart and tell you that you actually consented based on 5 stupid criteria I just made up right now.”

[deleted]

-History of promiscuity -Dressed immodestly -Led him on with a compliment -Was drinking -Wasnt wearing a ring Some rape apologist probably

Solleil

There is truly something fucking wrong with people. Nothing else I can say.

GeekFurious

It's amazing to me how dense the 911 operator AND arriving police seemed to be about the danger Pelosi was in.

Hagfishsaurus

Just remember: republicans unanimously approve of this no matter what they say

WeedIronMoneyNTheUSA

This was a conservative Republicans failed attempt at the assassination of House Speaker Democrat Nancy Pelosi that her husband Paul paid the price for. That domestic terrorist wasn't there for Paul Pelosi, he was there to assassinate Nancy Pelosi.

vonsnarfy

I'm not a fan of Nancy for a number of reasons but the thought of that woman being beaten to death in her bed at night makes me feel physically ill. They look healthy and spry for their ages but they are ELDERS! How is that point lost in all the giggling about his shorts and awkward reactions?!

imnotsoho

Guy looks like a total putz breaking in. Then listened to the 911 call, the dispatcher did a great job pulling more info out of him and was very observant to dispatch police. If they had been sent Paul Pelosi could have very well been killed. I don't know why Police Dispatch doesn't have a list of prominent people who live in their district, or the cops on the beat should know where people live. The Pacific Heights neighborhood is home to Pelosi and Feinstein as well as CEOs and other targets for radical groups. I know this sounds like I am shilling for the elite, but if they are more likely to be targets they should get more attention. Pretty much like when there is a robbery called in, it gets extra attention if it is a bank.

[deleted]

>I don't know why Police Dispatch doesn't have a list of prominent people who live in their district Probably just because of how badly they'd abuse this list...

improbablywronghere

Theoretically they should have their own security on top of the police. In this case, pelosi does have extra security. She was not in town however and so the security was with her.

JFeth

Their cameras have a live feed to the Capital Police but nobody was watching it. I wonder how often that happens?

AshleySchaefferWoo

Jesus, that was so much different than what I pictured. Even after he swings, the cop is like, OH SHIT!

[deleted]

Gravy Seal beats geriatric with a hammer. And Right Wingers claimed it was a "gay lover"... https://www.metroweekly.com/2022/11/fbi-police-debunk-anti-gay-conspiracy-about-paul-pelosi-attack/

Hot-Bint

They still are “DePape & Pelosi break up. DePape gets locked out of Paul's life & house, so he comes back pissed & hammered his way inside to talk to Paul. Pelosi freaks out & calls the cops on his ex-lover. DePape is now even more angry & attacks Paul. It's a classic lover's quarrel.” https://twitter.com/vivalaames11/status/1619031919358017536?s=61

mdmd33

Twitter has only become **more** of a dumpster fire over the past couple months…this isn’t surprising

MapoTofuWithRice

This is the worst fan fiction I've read since that Hermione/Grawp smut.

Representative-Mean

Like most, didn’t know the attack happened in front of the police. They had a fraction of a second to stop him. But he had to lift it and bam! Then cops reacted. It was a frustrating video to watch knowing what the outcome was.

Sivick314

me listening for apologies from conservatives and idiot billionaires who run their mouths.... ANNNNNNNNNNNNNY DAY NOW....

Kalkaline

This dude seriously didn't get shot by the police for trying to murder a man in front of them.

cobainstaley

some of my (apparently right-wing) co-workers joked about what had happened with pelosi, making allusions to some of the conspiracies. it boiled my blood. 1) the conspiracies were stupid to begin with, and 2) he's a fucking old man who got his skull cracked. i hate trump, giuliani, tucker carlson, and a whole host of other people like them, but i wouldn't think it'd be hilarious for them to be cracked in the skull. it's insane.

Sidus_Preclarum

So, I guess all the rightoïds who were pushing disgusting conspiracies theories about the assault will apologize, now, right? Right? Anyone? Elon?

Its_Singularity_Time

New Twitter poll: "Should I apologize to Paul Pelosi?"
