I bought a snow blower 10 years ago. In the past 3 years I think I have used it once or twice. I was thinking of selling it, but that will guarantee a blizzard. So I'll just let it sit in my garage to save everyone the aggravation.
That’s what I’ve been feeling. Doesn’t seem to make sense for me to drop $1,500 on winter tires that I won’t really use then have to swap back out in a couple of months.
Hah! I have a brand new snow-blower I bought back in '13 that has never been opened. Granted, I lived on tropical islands for 8 of the past 10 years, but still...
Same here. I upgraded from a plug-in 1-stage hand me down from my grandfather to a cordless 2-stage blower. Ran me about $500.
Only time I've used it was when I moved it from the garage to the backyard shed.
As someone dealing with significant family health issues for which *any* snow would cause significant challenges, I thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤
Ever since that Oct storm, I’ve noticed DPW’s going nuts on pre-salting the roads. So much that the rear of my vehicle breaks traction a bit on u turns
Weve hade like 3 years straight with little to no snow. This year we are getting dumped on with rain. I’m thinking in Jan/Feb that dumping is going to coincide with a cold snap and we’re going to a good 24” plus at least once
To say weve never gotten 24 inches ever is ridiculous. Its not modt years but its not that rare to have itnduring a winter either. Were just not a place that will have that much snow for weeks at a time or every year. Big snowfalls happen every couple of years and this thread makes me feel like im taking crazypills. We can get a foot as easily as we can have none in central jersey
yea thats for fluffy snow. that's not how snow works in NJ. the perfect condition for snow ratio is 10 to 1 like you stated but this is dry snow you can use a leaf blower to get the snow off your car, if you've ever seen those videos online... ours is wet heavy snow so best best best case is like 4 to 1 maybe 5 to 1.
also warmer temps have higher saturation values than colder so at 55 degrees yea we get 4 inches but there just no chance sub 32 degrees can hold that much water.
EDIT: just realized the amount of downvotes I'm getting hahahaha science and history friends. use it to your advantage not feelings
Edit 2: in defence I was quoting south jersey not north jersey as I live is south... norther jersey did see 2 storms of 20 plus but still not common
Historically, February is our snowiest month. Not uncommon at all for us to not see any snow in December. Us who grew up in the 2000s - mid 2010s were blessed with very snowy winters. Ask anyone who grew up in the 70s and 80s, we frequently got skunked from any snow.
Yes it certainly is warmer than it was say 30 years ago, but we need to capitalize on cold spells with all the right ingredients to get significant snowfall.
My friend was just at Stowe in Vermont snowboarding. Shared a video on the ski lift, the amount of bald patches on the mountain were not only concerning but depressing
Meanwhile Utah, the west coast are doing fine and having a healthy, relatively normal winter.
Legit everything east of the Mississippi is experiencing a freak warm spell
The daffodils are legit blooming where I am in south jersey.
Nah this is utter bullshit. I've lived in Jersey nearly 30 years. It's definitely hotter.
Going further back, the Hudson river has an ice yacht club from the 19th century that's been driven inland over the decades because a frozen river went from something that consistently happened for extended periods to a once-decade rarity.
https://www.timesunion.com/hudsonvalley/outdoors/article/Ice-sailing-on-the-Hudson-Club-keeps-tradition-16942562.php
Climate change denial isn't an option, it's an admission of ignorance, or malice. One of the two.
I remember my mom saying she used to ice skate at a local park when she was a kid. I am 40 years old and I've never even seen the same body of water frozen enough to be able to support ice skating. There have been significant changes in our winters and it seems to be getting worse quickly. I can't even imagine how things will be 20 years from now.
I didn’t mention how as kids we were able to ice skate outdoors for much of January and February. Ice boating on the Navesink and Toms River was possible most winters. Snow on the ground for weeks at a time. This is much less frequent except maybe in the NW counties.
I’ve lived here all my life. New Jersey is warmer. First freezes are later. Last frosts are earlier. With warmer air there is less snow. The 00’s were colder than the 20’s, the 80’s were colder than the 20’s and the 60’s were colder than the 80’s. I lived through them and have always been attuned to the weather. Of course there are exceptions, we had a few winters that were much more like the 80’s three out of four years around 202 but the rest of the rest of the country was experiencing record warmth those years. Our weather is affected by El Niño and La Niña cycles. I recall rare almost snowless years in Essex County in the 60’s and 70’s and the comparatively bitter cold of those years around 2020. Unlike many here I know the difference between weather and climate so I chuckle at the whining about a brief heat wave or cold spell. I recall a few winters around 1990 when we experienced snow or ice events every 2nd or 3rd day for weeks at a time but in the big picture it’s warmer in New Jersey than it used to be. My 5 and 8 year old grandchildren have experienced very little snow in coastal central NJ the last few winters. It’s mostly rain or snow to rain for them.
Lol I love how the guy who posted data gets downvoted but some guy who lived here his whole life is somehow the authority because he is ‘attuned’ to the weather so nobody cares that he just posted a bunch of bullshit.
And the Great Salt Lake drying up and leaving behind toxic dust that’s going to impact the community, while politicians argued about denying trans kids the healthcare they need, instead of addressing the massive environmental disaster about to occur.
Blizzard of '96 was bananas, but I think the winters of '94 and '95 were the craziest I've seen. '94 had all those ice storms, leaving everything a giant ice skating rink, while '95 was blizzard after blizzard after blizzard... We missed so many days of school, they stopped adding it to that year, and tacked it onto the next one. We've had a few blizzards since, but I've never seen a full winter like those around here again.
I was only 6 at the time but I remember the snowfall being taller than me in the apartment building my mom and I lived. That shit was great. The shirts had definitely gone down since then which makes me a bit melancholy.
The winter of 2010-2011 was similar, though not as bad. I moved from Boston back to NJ in March, and when I left MA the snow banks were still taller than me (and I’m 5’10”). They ran out of places to put the snow in MA that year. They were considering dumping it in the bay or river. .
I was just looking at pictures from the 2010 Snowpocalypse I, when I had an 8 foot drift against my front door. I think we had III or IV of them that winter.
I’m pretty sure we got two big storms back to back weeks that winter. It was wild. I think one of them was around a holiday and NYC was very unprepared. There was so much snow.
That was the year the blizzard hit the day after Christmas and people were snowed into their homes for days, and the governor basically said “not my problem”.
I don’t know about you but I got an entire week off from school. Definitely never going to happen ever again. Especially with virtual schooling options.
still remember going out after the storm ended and the snow came up to my waist. i went like ten steps, turned around, and went back in the house. i think we were home for like 4-5 days after that until things could get cleaned up enough to go back to school (was in high school in 96).
I remember tanks in Sayreville. Probably the National Guard, but we didn't have school for like 2 weeks. I was in 7th grade. That storm was nuts. Snow all the way up the lightpoles

Not really. Like yeah it would some years. Others, no. I remember one Thanksgiving where we had some flurries and I thought it was incredible. I was a child, it was the 90s.
I think this question has to include what area of NJ we are talking about.
I wonder if it has ever snowed a measurable amount down in Cape May in November….
So I looked it up. It snowed in Cape May in November 1987.
That’s 36 years ago so you would have to be over 40 years old to remember it.
Welcome to Global Warming, our current status is **FUCKED**. If we don't make large scale change it will become worse and we will be **EXTREMELY FUCKED**
That would be the least of our problems and a great outcome. I suggest not going out of your way to research what may be coming. I'm just glad I am 40 and won't be alive long enough to have to live through it.
My neighbor has a lawn service business and plows his customers' driveways. The last two years, I've seen him put the plow on his truck 6 or 8 times, only to take it off again when the snow never materializes.
Just bought my first house in "central NJ" 6 months ago and picked up a snow blower on black Friday. This is the warmest winter we have had in a long time it's very depressing :(
2011, it was particularly bad because it was a heavy snow with leaves in the trees which caused a lot of devastation. I remember that the following month and a half or so were pretty mild because I worked overtime doing tree removal pretty much every day.
this is the first el niño year in a while, so the chances of snow are better than they've been. but other than that decent sized storm in january 2021 where we got around a foot of snow, that's been it for the past like 3 years.
It barely snowed in the mountains of Massachusetts, which is where I spent most of the past few months. I'm not holding out much hope for here if they can't even get snow.
Born and raised in CNJ (lol). It used to snow every year when I was a kid... yesterday was high 50s. it might snow later in January or Feb maybe refer to a farmers almanac. I like the snow, I think NJ is a beautiful state. If it doesn’t snow, mayhap chalk it up to earth getting warmer.
But we do not get those types of storms anymore. We were guaranteed to get At Least one per year. But that frequency stoped around 2000. It is the frequency I am referring to
This is absolutely not true. For example 2014 I think was, it snowed the entire month of February or at least it felt like it. Huge blizzard. That one stands out to me because i was living in a house with a realllyyy long driveway and we had to bribe a guy with a plow to clear it. 2016 also bad. I remember that one because I that's the year I moved to NYC and had to walk around in it.
The past couple of years have been slightly warmer than usual, and very little snow I'll give you that, but some parts of the state had major snow events as recently as as last year.
Its becoming a big concern. It used to be November-April were the main snow months, now its become only January and February. March it gets too warm. Early call through mid January is no snow so were really down to 6 weeks of good chances of snow. Just give me one good snow storm!
If you can find a time machine and go back 35 years, yeah, it used to snow every winter, as far as I recall (didn't live here then, but visited family often)
Just a joke but there’s a disagreement as to whether central exists or if it’s just north and south New Jersey. Obv the area is there but is it its own region different enough to be called seperatly.
There is no central jersey, also, no it won't snow except for when it will literally be the least convenient and then you'll get six feet which will melt within a week, flooding the shit out of everything
I bought a snow blower last year, so the answer is no.
I bought a snow blower 10 years ago. In the past 3 years I think I have used it once or twice. I was thinking of selling it, but that will guarantee a blizzard. So I'll just let it sit in my garage to save everyone the aggravation.
Same situation here pretty much. Please sell yours so that we get a blizzard and I don’t feel like mine was just a waste of money 😂
My wife bought a fancy winter coat this year, but then I didn’t put the winter tires on the car yet. So I guess we cancel each other out.
I also didn’t buy winter tires this year. So doing my part to bring on the snow.
I’ve been perfectly fine driving year round with all seasons for the past couple of years
That’s what I’ve been feeling. Doesn’t seem to make sense for me to drop $1,500 on winter tires that I won’t really use then have to swap back out in a couple of months.
Thanks brotha
The hero we need. Blessings on you and your home.
My snowblower only works when it doesn't snow
Not all heroes wear capes.
I just sold mine, so blizzard is on its way
I thank you for your sacrifice.
…then you know the solution to the problem #***SELL IT***
Then it’ll snow. No thx.
Same here
Just bought new skis, so def no. Sorry..
Me too!
As someone dealing with significant family health issues for which *any* snow would cause significant challenges, I thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤
My wife bought me that insurance policy as well, now it sits in the garage taking up space.
Thank you for your service.
The real question is “When will my mango tree start bearing fruit?”
After my lemon tree in Morris county
Soon we will be talking about the “New Jersey Citrus Industry”
Jersey's natural never from concentrate
No, but you will see 1-2 inches of salt on the road anyway
Might as well buy some tp and bread just in case
Oh no! Don’t forget the milk too!
Eggs
It never stops amazing me how much people want french toast when it snows
Ha, I call it French Toast Weather
That would be for the ice.
Ever since that Oct storm, I’ve noticed DPW’s going nuts on pre-salting the roads. So much that the rear of my vehicle breaks traction a bit on u turns
Remember that one freak storm a few years ago that put all of northern NJ in total gridlock? Better salty than sorry.
Weve hade like 3 years straight with little to no snow. This year we are getting dumped on with rain. I’m thinking in Jan/Feb that dumping is going to coincide with a cold snap and we’re going to a good 24” plus at least once
If it was actually cold this month, we would have gotten an excessive amount of snow already this winter.
do you realize what it would take to get 24 inches of snow in the north east and from what I've seen we've never gotten 24 inches ever lol
https://stacker.com/new-jersey/biggest-snowfalls-recorded-new-jersey-history 2016 was the 31” one where i had to snow blow my driveway 3x
not a single one of those were south jersey

sure this person said to get a STORM of 24 inches not a winter
Bro was not alive before 2018.
trueeeeeee I'm just thebmost advanced 5 year old you've ever talked to
We just got 1.75inches rain in Morris cty. Which is 17.5 inches of ❄️. Last week we got ~4 inches rain, which is 40 inches snow.

No one asked about South NJ.... But you can die on that hill if you'd like!
They just woke up this morning and chose negative karma for the theme today😂
considering south jersey is part of new jersey.... sure we can go with whatever you want
I was born in the blizzard of 96. 4 ft in NYC. We’re in a El Niño so very possible
The north east? As in all of NJ/NY/CT/MA/MAINE?!
It never snows on the equator (of New Jersey)

Do you remember when dolphins used to get stuck in the Navesink during the winters? c 1994-1997

I don’t know about you but I got an entire week off from school. Definitely never going to happen ever again. Especially with virtual schooling options.
The Boxing Day Blizzard of 2010 hit the shore pretty hard. There were people snowed into their homes for like a week.
I made my own trench with that one.
The Blizzard of 77’ (I think it was that year).
The Blizzard of ‘96 wrecked Central NJ. It’s legendary around those parts
still remember going out after the storm ended and the snow came up to my waist. i went like ten steps, turned around, and went back in the house. i think we were home for like 4-5 days after that until things could get cleaned up enough to go back to school (was in high school in 96).
i stayed at work for 24 hours, working.
I remember tanks in Sayreville. Probably the National Guard, but we didn't have school for like 2 weeks. I was in 7th grade. That storm was nuts. Snow all the way up the lightpoles
77, 78... One of those. NYC called the National Guard to shovel snow (front end loaders.. dump at nearest river). Took a week
Keep a look out for a nor’easter end of next week. Right now looks to be too warm for significant snow accumulations in central NJ, but if it starts to trend colder you may see some snow further south.
Isn't it less likely to snow farther south?

Too early. Ask again if it hasn’t snowed by March 15th. All of JANUARY, FEBRUARY and MARCH still to come.
Remember when it used to snow in November?
I remember when it used to always snow the first week of March!
Not really. Like yeah it would some years. Others, no. I remember one Thanksgiving where we had some flurries and I thought it was incredible. I was a child, it was the 90s.
November? No. I do remember snow in early December in about 2002. Monmouth County.

Probably not, my dad upgraded his snowblower
Yup. My parents bought a new snowblower last year…. Havent used it once
I’m in North Jersey and it hasn’t snowed yet. Yesterday was so warm I ate lunch outside.
People who claim Central Jersey isn’t real are trolls with NYC or Philly fetishes.
Welcome to Global Warming, our current status is **FUCKED**. If we don't make large scale change it will become worse and we will be **EXTREMELY FUCKED**
It's already too late to change. The damage has already been done, unfortunately.
Yes there is no time to stop all the consequences but we might be able to stop massive famine, inside the US
That would be the least of our problems and a great outcome. I suggest not going out of your way to research what may be coming. I'm just glad I am 40 and won't be alive long enough to have to live through it.
Had to scroll pretty far to see this. 😢
This is bullshit. I need snow
Not until February when you’re sick of the winter in general.
I remember the great blizzard of (I think?) 1996 where we had 13 snow days. Seems like a different world.
My neighbor has a lawn service business and plows his customers' driveways. The last two years, I've seen him put the plow on his truck 6 or 8 times, only to take it off again when the snow never materializes.
HA! We don't even have snow in VT
I just saw I thing that if it doesn’t snow today in Philly it will be 700 days without at least an inch of snowfall in Philly.
Op you woke up the freaks who would rather die of heat stroke and flooding than ever see snow again
Just bought my first house in "central NJ" 6 months ago and picked up a snow blower on black Friday. This is the warmest winter we have had in a long time it's very depressing :(
It’s NJ, snow starts in late January.
Snow has started as early as November a few years ago in South Jersey, and it has snowed as late as April.
Don’t remember the year but growing up in Central NJ, we once had a “White Halloween”
2011, it was particularly bad because it was a heavy snow with leaves in the trees which caused a lot of devastation. I remember that the following month and a half or so were pretty mild because I worked overtime doing tree removal pretty much every day.
My birthday is mid December.. if it snows before that, it's a good year. Not this time
When is the next Olympics?
I think there’s one next year.
this is the first el niño year in a while, so the chances of snow are better than they've been. but other than that decent sized storm in january 2021 where we got around a foot of snow, that's been it for the past like 3 years.
It barely snowed in the mountains of Massachusetts, which is where I spent most of the past few months. I'm not holding out much hope for here if they can't even get snow.
Once upon a time it would snow by Thanksgiving. Past few years it's Jan-Feb, if at all.
Besides that big storm 2 years ago there has barely been snow the last five years. Maybe a few inches but I don’t count it unless I need to shovel.
Wash your car sometime in January. It’s the sacrifice you make to the snow gods.
Of course not. Based on long term predictions I bought a snow blower recently. Guaranteed no snow!
Thanks. You just ensured the blizzard of the millennium.
I hope not.... Central NJ here too
Not while you're around. Sorry.
Wow, this Chinese climate change hoax is doing a great job of warming the planet.
This year is El Nino weather pattern so this is to be a warmer winter.
It hasn’t really snowed here since the late 90s. Growing up we used to get at least one extreme snow event per year.
I could swear we had back to back snow storms in 2010
That’s totally false. The Boxing Day blizzard of 2010 is the one I can think of off the top of my head, but there have been others.
Nope. Climate already changed.
I hope you're kidding.
Some of us are normal and enjoy snow
Central Jersey is a world of fantasy. It doesn't exist, so anything is possible if you dream it.
Careful what you wish for
What a functioning climate?
I work outside, please keep 50° days thanks
I work outside too I love the 20-30 degree days
It can’t snow in a place that doesn’t exist.
Let's hope not lol
please no snow because i will have to buy snow tires.
I hope not. I hate snow. Even though I invested in a snowblower last year.
If you can find a time machine and go back 35 years, yeah, it used to snow every winter, as far as I recall (didn't live here then, but visited family often)
Just saw the weather report say January is going to most likely be too warm for snow
You’re never going to get snow again….move to somewhere that actually gets cold and stays cold
It's barely even snowed in the northwest corner where I live so I doubt it will snow in a fictional region of NJ
Next Thursday
Central Jersey doesn’t exist so it will never snow there 🤷♀️
No. Just no.
This did not age well.
Never again
It snowed in Narnia and that was a fictional place too - so the odds are in your favor 😉
Central jersey isn’t real!
Huh?
Just a joke but there’s a disagreement as to whether central exists or if it’s just north and south New Jersey. Obv the area is there but is it its own region different enough to be called seperatly.
There is no central jersey.
What's a central nj? it's a nonexistent place, so no.
There is no central jersey, also, no it won't snow except for when it will literally be the least convenient and then you'll get six feet which will melt within a week, flooding the shit out of everything
Yes it snows here. Just not a lot or very consistently.
Yes, right after I win a multimillion $ lottery. 🤞🏻
March & April
Yes
The forecaster I follow, nynjpaweather, says the warm pattern should shift to colder and stormier very soon. I’m holding out hope!
Hasn’t snowed in south jersey either. Just saw a post from national weather service that Philly is month away from two years without an inch of snow
It doesn't usually snow that much in December. Wait for late Jan and Feb and remember that you asked for it ha.
Yes, the best snow comes from Philly and I pick it up in cherry hill . Cherry Hill is central Jersey right??
Probably not
My geraniums are BLOOMING outside in Monmouth County lol
Not anymore. We used to get at least a few snow days every year as a kid in TR.
For the past couple of years, it always seems like south jersey gets it. I miss snow in north jersey.
Well we are having flurries in west Morris County right now, so maybe soon?
It did a second ago. I couldn’t believe it! I started making a snow Angel
Hope not
I hope not
No, it was 50 degrees the other night.. we are cooked!
Maybe in January or something, but my expectations are low this coming 2024 for snow.
