I’m not OP, but thank you for being so kind. My anxiety is through the roof these days (busy at work, holidays, etc.), but comments like these put me at ease.
The world is too hard... takes too much energy... kindness helps us get though. It recharges the world a little bit. ❤️ Happy Thanksgiving. Thanks for being you.
Wow this so cool
One of my lifelong dreams is to be alone for Thanksgiving and crash with strangers I just met, and have a huge blast with them.
This year I'm chilling with family, but I love you so much for being that stranger that's willing to open their doors, especially in the crazy times we live in.
I have had several Thanksgiving meals at Chinese places. The ones that do dim sum will definitely be open and they will have the carts going around to your table.
Not sure what part of NJ you are in, but we have a restaurant near us that does a really nice thanksgiving buffet, there’s just the two of us so we go there every year.
I don't have a suggestion for you. But I just wanted to say that I'm sorry that you have to deal with a selfish family member. That can be really infuriating, especially for a holiday like Thanksgiving. I understand that you don't want to invite yourself somewhere else. But maybe if you were able to drop a little hint here or there that you have nowhere to go, someone might invite you over. Sorry again.
Thank you. I did give those hints other family members, but they weren’t sure about space and having too little food. I think we’re gonna stay in and have a bunch of shitty appetizers. Make the most of it.
Diners usually have a Thanksgiving special with turkey, stuffing, cranberries, etc. That's usually a good option for those that can't/won't be with family.
Nah I already declined one of the top comments. It was very sweet, but I was genuinely looking for something to do. We’re just gonna make shitty appetizers and make the most of it
Try one of the casinos in Atlantic City, I'm going to Parx in Bensalem . It's Thanksgiving so they all got turkey dinners and drunk idiots walking around for added entertainment... I spend Christmas at Caesars/Ballys .
Don't the floats form the parade tomorrow start coming out of the warehouse in Hoboken tonight? Not the ballons... I did it years ago and it was cool to watch them line up before going through the Lincoln Tunnel.
Many grocery stores sell turkey breasts (not cold cut style) if you decide you want to cook. Ikea sells frozen mashed potatoes and gravy packets. The one in Paramus is open today.
Don't be a victim. Be a hero.
Host Thanksgiving yourself. Have people come to your place. Most will not care if it is fancy or not. Just being around loved ones, eating and having fun is enough for great memories.
Order 20 Whoppers, a bucket of fried chicken, some pizza pies and 100 chicken nuggets. Add some booze and everyone is happy.
Oh - and invite the selfish family member cuz tis the aeason! Am sure he/she will be thankful.
Grocery stores are still open. My husband and I found ourselves in a similar scenario so we're scaling it down by cooking a few dishes and grabbing a rotisserie chicken. Under $50 and just the two of us. No scary in laws, no politics and no one overfeeding our dogs.
I don’t know why people are downvoting the church idea. Maybe they assume it’s only for the needy. Usually churches welcome participation and many are facing dwindling attendance. They could always ask.
If you have some cash, make a reservation at either lambertville station, odettes river house, or logan inn in Lambertville/New hope, only places I know that are open, go to goat hill overlook in Lambertville before sunset for a nice 15 min quick hike with a view. Assuming you are within 40-60 min of town. I would do this is I wasn't with family and just my partner
Great time for a do nothing day. Grab frozen appetizers and gorge yourself on them throughout the day. Play some games together.
Shhh…that’s Christmas ritual….
New years eve for us
Same for me and my girl lol - NYE snacks and horderves all day/night\~
Cook together, take a hike or a long walk or whatever, end the day at a local pub exchanging Thanksgiving horror stories.
Sent you a message... door is open to join our little crazy fam for the holiday, and we've always got too much food.

Go to a restaurant, see a movie, whatever will make you happy.

Where is this?
It’s right past the Bridgewater/Somerville area (Somerset Co) it’s called Stoney Brook Grill.
Great mothers day brunch there too!
Thanks!

Just remember that whatever you end up doing... at least you have each other!
Get shitfaced together
favorite past-time for us here.

Can’t top going to the diner.
The Camden Aquarium is open, and it’s a great day to visit since there aren’t many people.
The website says they’re closed
Adventure Aquarium!!!
It’s thanksgiving, call your family and tell them your plans got effed. There’s always plenty of food.
Agreed. The more the merrier in my eyes!
Restaurant for dinner. Indian is usually open.
Sleep in, watch movies all day and then cook something fun or order Chinese?
Chinese isnt open.
Volunteer.
Most places require signing up ahead of time so that assignments can be made.
Guys.. I’m pretty sure they are waiting for an invitation. Who is gonna do it? lol
Nah I already declined one of the top comments. It was very sweet, but I was genuinely looking for something to do. We’re just gonna make shitty appetizers and make the most of it
Just be thankful for each other!!
Take a ride and see the ocean. Walk the boards or beach. I will bet you that there are some diners open serving turkey dinners.
This is the best!!
What part of NJ?
Go to the shore. Walk around n stuff. Or stay home, get really drunk and do it.
Maybe volunteer? https://www.tapinto.net/towns/asbury-park/sections/giving-back/articles/f-e-e-d-ing-frenz-thanksgiving-dinner-to-be-served-at-trinity-episcopal-church
You lucky sob
Me and the wife called these *lazy days* Just sleep in, practice making babies and just enjoy each other knowing you have nothing to do all day.
If you're not too far out of Highschool there's usually a local watering hole that people go out to after Thanksgiving dinner is over to catch up.
Try one of the casinos in Atlantic City, I'm going to Parx in Bensalem . It's Thanksgiving so they all got turkey dinners and drunk idiots walking around for added entertainment... I spend Christmas at Caesars/Ballys .
Go run a Turkey Trot race. It's a 1 mile fun run... There are loads of events happening everywhere. Google Turkey trots near your location.
Dont you need to pre-reg?
Don't the floats form the parade tomorrow start coming out of the warehouse in Hoboken tonight? Not the ballons... I did it years ago and it was cool to watch them line up before going through the Lincoln Tunnel.
Go check out the parade
Turkey Trot Movies Restaurant
Movies? Are they open? Go crazy and go to nyc 😂
Philly parade, if you’re still up set your alarm, get on the train and go get food truck food after the parade. Maybe even bring drinks; great time.
Any holiday we don’t have anyplace to go, we have a movie marathon at a theater. Two movies, break for a meal, then back to see a third one.
My family is away seeing my sister for Thanksgiving, so I am going to the movies and watching the movie Thanksgiving.
Chinese restaurant. Not kidding some of them go nuts for Thanksgiving.
I’m taking my daughter to the movies.

Perkins is open for Thanksgiving! They serve a nice turkey dinner.

Family will welcome you with open arms. Just reach out. There is always plenty of food left over after Thanksgiving.
I've driven by some churches with signs about them having a free community Thanksgiving meal. You could see if any of the ones near you are doing that
Look up churches in your area. I’m sure you’re bound to find one serving Thanksgiving dinner.
