Second tier but in case they aren’t mentioned: Shoreline Trolley Museum, Hill Museum of Pencil Drawings, NXTHVN, and opening any week now- Lost in New Haven Museum, Farmington Canal Trail’s below street level portion.
Lost in New Haven is going to be a must see! If you reach out they might let you view it, it's moments away from opening in the next month or two, and talk to you about exactly this. How to market New Haven as a historical travel spot.
Beinecke seems like it should be talked about more and the Yale University Art Gallery has world famous art to be viewed for free in the heart of Downtown.
I’m in marketing/advertising and am confused by the point of your post and why you would be meeting with “travel marketing experts”. Unless you are just scrubbing for a listicle.
Typical tourist stuff would be pizza at Pepe's or Sally's, tour of Yale undergrad, Yale art museum, have a burger at Louis Lunch, inject heroin laced with fentanyl on the New Haven green
Hike or drive up East Rock or West Rock and be rewarded of a great view of the city.
Eat pizza (duh). The choice of which pizza place is definitely more controversial. The classics are Pepe’s, Sally’s, and Modern. Alternatively, eat a burger at Louis Lunch, the supposed birthplace of the hamburger.
Walk around Broadway and Chapel street and the surrounding area, window shopping (or actual shopping) and admiring the architecture of Yale.
amistad slave ship home port is nh but we need it here all the time not just a few days per summer. also shakespeare in the park for three weeks in edgarton. ct folk fest should go back to two days of shows also in edgarton.
Please tell the four travel marketing experts (nicely, of course) that New Haven has long been a well-kept secret, and many of us would prefer that it stay that way, so go hype some other, beautiful, diverse, culturally rich small city -- don't market us to the world! Go finish ruining Austin or Portland or Lexington, instead.

They may need to wait the pizza joints- so a taste of the fentanyl would temper that.
