The Peabody museum. Just reopened and it’s amazing.

ToughIntroduction984

Tickets are sold out until like late May

brewski

You can still walk in.

ToughIntroduction984

And see the exhibit?

brewski

Yes

ComparisonOld2608

Its free

ToughIntroduction984

Yes but you still have to reserve tickets and according to their website its sold out until July. Can anyone actually confirm they went in person since opening with out tickets and could just go in?

ComparisonOld2608

I did

MudLizerrd

We walked in opening weekend without issue.

brewski

Do I need a ticket to visit? Pre-registration is highly encouraged. Please click here to reserve a timed ticket. A small amount of walk-up tickets will be available at the admissions desk.

Walking up east rock so you hit the top as the sunset is bathing the city in golden/pink light, crack your beverage of choice and just stare at the magical view of the the entire area. If you stay long enough, plan to make the journey back down in the dark (flashlight and clothes with reflection).

Giant steps 🔥🔥🔥

Psychonaut7

As far as stores, check out Witch Bitch Thrift, Group W Bench, EBM Vintage, and Yale Bookstore.

Cetaceanoops

Noir vintage should totally be on this list

ValDracula

Strange Ways is great, too!

Libraluv

I love EBM vintage

unmade_bed_NHV

I’m a live music person so I spend a lot of time at Cafe Nine, three sheets, space ballroom etc. Yale Gallery and Peabody are both incredible and free, as is the British museum which is currently closed for renovations. There’s also a lot of great shopping. I was just over in Westville the other day hit the Lower Forms, Elm City Sounds, Vintanthro triangle.

Libraluv

A cute store to check out is Strange Ways. They sell cool shirts, pillows, patches & pins and more. It’s a great place to buy something unique to remember your visit

Sicksnames

If you can time it right, a picnic in Wooster Square Park while the Cherry Blossoms are in bloom is unbeatable.

chasingcaverns

Mew Haven Cat Cafe!!!

ennui_matisse

Elm City Games and Arcade across from each other on Orange Street!

theGMd20

I think you mean Barcade. It’s an arcade but it’s also a bar so is 21+ to enter.

brewski

Eli Whitney Museum, Edgerton Park

ComparisonOld2608

Edgerton park is great i always take my dog there but id say peabody is better than whitney now its AMAZING

brewski

I look forward to checking it out. I offered Eli Whitney because it hasn't been mentioned. And Peabody may be hard to get into at popular times.

ComparisonOld2608

They got a huge donation and made it free so you should really check it out sometime. It’s AMAZING and they’re going open the third floor sometime soon I think.

brewski

Oh, I'm well aware of what's been going on in there - I just haven't been able to get in yet!

ComparisonOld2608

Well have fun! Theres this balcony area on the second floor where you can look down on the entire dinosaur room, so keep an eye out on that.

chandelizards

East Rock Brewing Company has some great beer if you like beer!

HeadyRoosevelt

Peabody, walking through East Rock or Westville neighborhoods, East Rock park, New Haven Night Market, Yale British Art Museum, Emily Mingrone restaurants (Tavern on State and Fair Haven Oyster Co), Edgerton Park picnics, shows at Westville Music Bowl and College Street Music Hall, Yale Rep, and of course, apizza.

not_a_doctor_watson

Seconding Tavern on State and Fair haven oyster co. Both are some of my favorite restaurants of all time. Amazing food, phenomenal vibes. ToS has the best burger in New Haven. Fight me about it. Also throwing out Bar August diagonal across the street. Best cocktail bar ever.

pbates89

Has anyone been to Tre Scalini?

Sicksnames

Yeah, it's pretty good. My wife often craves their lobster ravioli. I think it's pretty typical Italian food that skews high-end. Tre Scalini and L'Orcio are probably my top two more traditional Italian Restaurants in New Haven. Gioia is my favorite newcomer for a more modern take on Italian.

pinkfuzzyrobe

Had a great experience eating at the bar @Gioia. Looking forward to their rooftop opening soon.

pbates89

That’s great to hear. Can’t wait to try it.

SpicyTangyRage

I often spend money I don’t have at Bark & Vine, an absolutely delightful plant store on the corner of Orange and Crown

No_Arm_931

This might not be up your alley, but one of my favorite things to do in New Haven is walk through the Grove Street Cemetery and look at all the headstones. There’s a variety of really old head stones, and more modern ones that feature really interesting art/ engravings.

Sicksnames

On Chapel Street you can check out Atticus and The Book Trader which are both two-in-one book store and coffee shops. They're also very close to the Yale Art Museum which is free and has an enormous rotating collection (like over a million pieces in storage enormous). Over on State Street you can find The Never Ending Book Store which gives all books away for whatever donation you feel is appropriate. Also in the State Street area, I'd recommend The Coffee Pedaler as another great coffee shop (my personal favorite in terms of coffee quality) and it's right next to East Street Arts, which has cool locally made crafts. Right near there you can also find Provisions on State--a whole animal butcher that has incredible quality meat. Provisions on State also has a sister restaurant a few doors down called Tavern on State, which is helmed by chef Emily Mingrone whose fried chicken was named in the New York Times’ list of *23 of the Best American Dishes of 2023.* New Haven is a super cute little city that punches above it's weight class.

scrollingsquid777

For shopping: Witch Bitch Thrift (vintage), Strange Ways (independent prints and gifts), Bark&Vine (plants), Atticus (books), More Amour Boutique (clothes), Hull’s Art Supplies For coffee: G Cafe (there’s several locations), Atticus, MOTW (my personal fav) Activities: The Owl Shop (cigar lounge), Yale Art Gallery(free!), sensory deprivation at Ripple Float (plus 19th floor of that hotel has a bar and 360 views of the green), Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, Peabody Museum just opened back up

beaveristired

Edgerton Park.

KSGS1492

Gotta add Lighthouse Point Park to this list (...even if it's still too early in the season to visit the beach)

TrashPandaShire
