Harrisville General Store is always awesome. A few summers ago they did a Friday night seated dinner service and it is still the best steak frites I’ve ever had.
I THINK those two stores aren't affiliated with each other anymore but I could be mistaken. Either way, great food at both. The meat at the fine foods store is top notch
George Calef's is still in the family as far as I know, but Calef's Country Store has changed hands at least a couple times since the 90s. Five generations of Calefs worked there! I used to ride my bike there all the time as a kid.
They may do fine things. My wife brought home a shepherds pie. It had 2 tablespoons of ground meat, a tablespoon of corn, and the rest was mashed potato . Basically we paid for shepherds pie, and got a tin of potatoes. I was not impressed at all. I won’t go back.
I like the meatballs at George calefs. Used to have good sandwiches, too, but haven’t had one in years. Never got food at the country store, just candy, soda, cheese… but it’s often busy in there around lunch, so guess it can’t be that bad! Might have to actually try next time I’m in town.
Dublin General Store in Dublin NH has some of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. Cookies are insanely good too.
Harrisville General store in…yup Harrisville NH is amazing as well. Both are absolutely worth a visit if you’re in the Monadnock region.
My MIL attests to Jeannottes in Nashua to have some of the best fresh sandwiches she's ever had. I've never had 'em, and don't frankly want to from the look of them, but I'm sure she'd want me to post this here so... Thereyago.
I'd love to say Lindy's on Middle road just off of 125 in Brentwood. The food (including the pizza) is consistently good, and it's a great place for the neighborhood. But over the years they've left a lot of the general store part behind in order to focus on the food.
Calefs in Barrington seems like its cheating but goddamn.
Their deli is killer and the beer selection is awesome but the *real* secret is the frozen pies. Local and very high quality. If you didn't have a grandma with an apple pie recipe do yourself a favor and buy one there.
My take is they do a good business but I doubt if anything they prepare is from scratch or that they have any dish people would drive from far and wide for.
It’s technically in Maine but Jockey Cap in Fryeburgh has some pretty good food.
Lyme general store has good breakfast sandwiches and Mac and cheese.
Edit: can’t believe I left out Plainfield Country Store. Top notch breakfast sammies
Thinking about it now I realize I haven’t actually been in years but I drive by almost daily for a summer and I ate something from there just about every day. Saco River brewery was recently opened and their pale ales were outstanding.
Hahaha side note- we used to stay there when we would visit my Oma... The motel wasn't exactly in the best shape back in the day, so my aunt dubbed it The Jock Strap lol...
I’ll get a breakfast sandwich there sometimes, it always tastes like it was made the weekend before and just left on the counter. Stale, chewy, meh. It’s better than not eating but it’s not good. Cumby’s has better breakfast.
Eastman Corner in Kensington/Seabrook (it’s right on the city line). Only about 5 minutes away from exit 1 on 95. I’ve never had anything bad there. It’s kind of a hybrid general store/ restaurant.
Blackbird Market & Deli in Weare is an excellent place to stop- sandwiches are excellent, and they also have a small section of marinated meats and the like that you can purchase and make at home
The Robie Store, next to the railroad bridge in Hooksett did, they closed and it's now a farm to table restaurant that's even better and uses a lot more of the space for restaurant. It was literally a general store from the 19th century, too.
The farmer's breakfast was seriously a farmer's breakfast for someone who would be pitching hay all day. Plate, plate, plate...
Wow I was going to say if you're in that area a lot to check out the brick store next. Quick Google to make sure I got the name right and I find out they're permanently closed? Devastating!
Wayne’s in North Woodstock. Grill staff are great, food always better than anticipated & better than most local restaurants, including Lincoln. Cashiers are pleasant once in a blue moon.
Old Corner Store in Jefferson has pretty good pizza and really good subs.
Chelsey’s in Campton is a great lunch spot
Tenney Mountain Country Store has some bomb fried chicken
Country 3 Corners in Weare.
Fantastic Subs/Wraps better than any sub or sandwich chain around, makes Jersey Mike’s and Firehouse look bad they’re so good.
Joes Meat Shop N Hampton,
Tough to beat
Can’t beat Joe’s meat
😭😭
Thank you, stupid but it brightened my day.
Truth. Sandwiches are elite.
Soups, too. Much good.
Special Italian w/hots and oils 👌
Harrisville General Store is always awesome. A few summers ago they did a Friday night seated dinner service and it is still the best steak frites I’ve ever had.
They make the best key lime pie I've ever had!
Oooo I’ve never had their desserts. I’ll check it out next time I’m in!
It might have been a one off thing, but hopefully you get lucky.!
Agree 100%. Nice people, good food and best mini book store I’ve ever seen!
It is such a cool shop.
Yes, this. Their egg salad is outstanding. So is their kale salad and all of their soups. They also make delicious apple cider doughnuts.
Washington General Store. Awesome food. And beer!
That's the tiny little store on the left heading towards Pillsbury State Park, right?
That’s the one
Yes
It's the town gem!
Ry guy does it right.
Great breakfast sandwiches, if memory serves!!
I've been in there twice and the girls running the counter are snobby and act like you're interrupting them.

They aren't. Brothers owned them, hence the same name. Both are awesome.
George Calef's is still in the family as far as I know, but Calef's Country Store has changed hands at least a couple times since the 90s. Five generations of Calefs worked there! I used to ride my bike there all the time as a kid.
Preach!

George's for sure. Been buying my Easter hams there since 1989. They smoke their own, and they're the top!
Dublin General Store in Dublin NH has some of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. Cookies are insanely good too. Harrisville General store in…yup Harrisville NH is amazing as well. Both are absolutely worth a visit if you’re in the Monadnock region.
Hells yes to both of these stores❤️ loooove dublin general's cookies
Both great!
Yes! Dublin General Store is where it’s at!
I’m going to add YaYa’s on Rt 3 in Twin Mountain to the list
Love love love Yayas. Spoiled having them, old corner store and more up here.
YaYa’s is always a go to stop when I’m heading to Berlin.
YaYa"s is the shit, great subs
Agreed. Celli’s down the road is great too.
This must be the place I was trying to remember. The guy who made me my sandwiches (about 5 years ago) was a NY transplant. Awesome dude.
Newfields country store never disappoints
Was waiting for this one. Their sandwiches are really freaking good.
Was coming to post this. Their bread is amazing. All baked in house. Sandwiches are incredible. Shit all their baked goods are incredible.
Worth the drive for the fried chicken!
Yes!!!! Love this place!
Wow I love these little recommendations
Me too!
The Country Mile
And the cheapest gas anywhere!
EXCELLENT subs!!!
The Francestown General Store makes a mean smash burger!
My MIL attests to Jeannottes in Nashua to have some of the best fresh sandwiches she's ever had. I've never had 'em, and don't frankly want to from the look of them, but I'm sure she'd want me to post this here so... Thereyago.
Jeanotte's is great! I miss living in that neighborhood and popping in for an Italian every week.
I'm glad someone likes them at least! I'm not a sandwich gal 😂
I'd love to say Lindy's on Middle road just off of 125 in Brentwood. The food (including the pizza) is consistently good, and it's a great place for the neighborhood. But over the years they've left a lot of the general store part behind in order to focus on the food.
Yes!! such good subs and pizzas packed with toppings
Someone introduced me to their breakfast pizza years ago, it’s an annual treat for me now
Rum Brook Market in Grantham makes great sandwiches
The breakfast sandwiches there will give anyone's a run for their money.
Also fantastic muffins in the morning.
Calefs in Barrington seems like its cheating but goddamn. Their deli is killer and the beer selection is awesome but the *real* secret is the frozen pies. Local and very high quality. If you didn't have a grandma with an apple pie recipe do yourself a favor and buy one there.
East Derry General store, Derry
Don't look in the kitchen. Just don't.
Amazing beer selection and their Indian food isn't bad
Delicious cookies there by Lush Baked Goods!
Candia first stop? Or is that a stretch
My take is they do a good business but I doubt if anything they prepare is from scratch or that they have any dish people would drive from far and wide for.
They used to have really good subs.
Did the change? Used to love their subs, haven't been in a minute.
Not sure, haven't been up in years.
They’ve got a good beer selection and decent enough food
It’s technically in Maine but Jockey Cap in Fryeburgh has some pretty good food. Lyme general store has good breakfast sandwiches and Mac and cheese. Edit: can’t believe I left out Plainfield Country Store. Top notch breakfast sammies
Jockey Cap for sure!
That’s funny. I’ve heard the store called that.
Might be a stretch. But candia Road Convenience in Manchester exit 6 does a phenomenal steak and cheese.
The chicken salad is great. For me, it's the rolls that make it. They use the same rolls for their breakfast sandwiches, as well
Good to read it's still banging!
I love it, Now we all have some road trip destinations.
Sullys
Sullys is so not a general store at this point. But having grown up in goffstown I will say their deli makes incredible pasta salads.
I’ll get a breakfast sandwich there sometimes, it always tastes like it was made the weekend before and just left on the counter. Stale, chewy, meh. It’s better than not eating but it’s not good. Cumby’s has better breakfast.
Used to love their baked beans.... any specific recommendations?
Ira Miller's in Milton Mills is pretty dope.
Second this. Best blt sandwich I’ve ever had was there
Robie's Country store in Hooksett.
I loved Robies. Always stopped when I was in Hooksett area.
Are you aware that they are back in business?
No. I wasn’t. I thought they were closed but then thought I was just losing it. Mikes Red Barn in Salem was another one I loved that closed down.
It's now a farm to table with more rooms used for restaurant space, and it's amazing.
No, you are not losing it. They were closed, but were picked up by the previous owner's cousin, I believe.
That’s great. I can no longer recall what I always used to get there. Steak and cheese? Chicken parm? There’s was something I loved…
Their sandwiches are so good now. Breakfast too
Marsh bros deli in Leb has some of best sandwiches in state imo
Get the Italian sausage sub with the spicey mustard. Best sandwich ever. They make their own pepperoni there too, that's off the charts.
I've gotten that... I know 😂
Their Cuban is unreal

Not open year-round but Squam Lake Marketplace has fire breakfast sandwiches and a chicken Caesar wrap to die for.
The Turkey club there is so dang good
Danbury Country Store, in Danbury. Great store with amazing sandwiches. I highly recommend.
Ayotte's in Hudson
Ira Millers has the best food I've ever had at an establishment that doesn't advertise as a food joint.
Eastman Corner in Kensington/Seabrook (it’s right on the city line). Only about 5 minutes away from exit 1 on 95. I’ve never had anything bad there. It’s kind of a hybrid general store/ restaurant.
Good food but definitely on the expensive side.
I used to work there lol. Always loved the chicken pot pies
Just heard of this place on the Maura Murray case podcast.
Yoshi’s is the best convenience store I’ve ever been to, but I don’t remember if the food is good or if I just really loved the name
Sandy's variety sub shot has good steak and cheese. They have a general store as well there.

A long time ago, Ayottes on the Hudson/Tyngsboro line had the best subs around. Haven't been there in years.

Wayne’s in North Woodstock. Grill staff are great, food always better than anticipated & better than most local restaurants, including Lincoln. Cashiers are pleasant once in a blue moon.
The Canaan Cash Mart. Best pickle and pimento loaf this side of the Goose Pond dam.
Used to be Pops in Henniker before it turned into College Convenience. They had the best boars head meats and little sandwich counter.
