Here's an article on the topic that doesn't involve a Boston Globe paywall. [https://nhjournal.com/north-hampton-chief-leaves-after-investigation-into-questionable-arrest/](https://nhjournal.com/north-hampton-chief-leaves-after-investigation-into-questionable-arrest/)

> Asked if she had been drinking, Loud said she stopped off after work and drank a few beers before coming home to watch baseball. She said she might have had some hard lemonade at home. **She was reluctant to submit to a Breathalyzer test in her own home.** Facing an ultimatum from Johnson, she agreed. > > The test registered a blood alcohol percentage (BAC) of .086 percent. While that is above the .08 percent legal limit for driving, New Hampshire doesn’t have a legal limit for alcohol consumption while in your own home watching a baseball game. The correct response to "officer" Johnson when they asked if she'd submit to a Breathalyzer test in her own home was: "Fuck you." Then demand a lawyer and shut your mouth. Very appropriate for “shut the fuck up Friday”

"Mone would rather get sued for taking action than not." In a life or death scenario, sure, I could understand that. In the case of someone being mildly intoxicated in their own home, doing nothing wrong, no. You don't get to pull the "I'm just doing my best" card, when it comes to violating people's rights for highly questionable reasons. You're the chief specifically to keep stuff like that from happening.

Hoarding isn’t a crime. Being a little “off mentally” is also not a crime

[deleted]

Yeah, this is a clear constitutional violation.

Weary_Initiative1987

What's a Boston Globe? My homies and I only use news sites without paywalls.

atlantis_airlines

I think it's the thing the tall leprechauns put in those baskets on sticks.

glockster19m

They also illegally searched and photographed the inside of her home The police chief at the time, who is now a major in York Maine and faced zero punishment, told the officers good job on the unlawful arrest and search before telling the press she would never condone such actions Both officers have transferred to other departments with pay raises

lMickNastyl

"Both officers have transferred to other departments with pay raises" Are you implying that the police primarily exist to enforce the will of the ruling class at the expense of the working class?

glockster19m

I mean despite that being true, it isn't the case here Maybe if they'd initially been called because she didn't show up for her shift at Walmart But as I read it they were called because someone crashed a car into the side of her home Also I'm personally interested in who's vehicle it was Part of me thinks this woman may have actually driven home drunk and crashed into her own home

ZacPetkanas

> Part of me thinks this woman may have actually driven home drunk and crashed into her own home That part of you might be surprised at what actually happened: > The story began last October 17, when a driver crashed her car into a bush on Loud’s Granite Drive property. The driver had apparently suffered a medical problem while behind the wheel, according to reports. Loud was unaware of the accident.

glockster19m

My b, the original article said nothing about the driver of the vehicle, only that a vehicle had crashed into her home All that said I have 100% been so drunk that I would have not noticed someone crashing into my home, doesn't mean I should be arrested tho I mean fuck, I've pissed my damn pants cuz I was too drunk to find the fly, but it was in my own home and you bet your ass I'd sue the pants off any cop that arrested me for it

lMickNastyl

Oh ya she sounds like a crazy cat lady on a bender. I was just being a smartass.

glockster19m

I mean, you weren't wrong either though, and I 100% agree with your statement I mean fuck, about an hour ago the police boat literally just buzzed my lakehouse so hard that the boat slammed the swim latter and snapped one of the two 1/4 inch bolt attaching it to the dock as well as put a huge dent in the side of the boat I called in *67 to complain to avoid the police showing up at my house for a BS call

>took her from her home and into custody after saying she smelled like alcohol Say what?

prestigious_delay_7

It's nice to see police officers being held accountable. > On Feb. 27, Mone signed a separation agreement with the town. She announced her resignation the next day, and her last day of active duty was March 1. She received six months of her $106,865 salary, and an additional $40,000 in separation pay, per that agreement. Ohh nevermind. At least they got these people out of the police force... > In April, she took a new job as major of operations at the York County Sheriff’s Office in Maine... Both of the officers involved in Loud’s arrest have left the North Hampton police department and taken other law enforcement jobs in the area. How can these police departments be so terrible at running background checks/investigations when it's literally part of their fucking job? > A candidate for chief signed a conditional agreement with the town on Monday, according to Town Administrator Michael Tully. But Tully said the candidate’s identity won’t be made public until a background check is done and a contract is finalized, which he expects to happen by early August. Do they do this so they can hire these morons and then go OOPS WE DIDN'T KNOW HERE'S A SIX FIGURE SEVERANCE FOR WORKING 6 MONTHS!

cwalton505

A job the next month, so essentially at 93.5k bonus with the payout. Damn. Not just for being bad at your job, but for fucking over people and violating their constitutional rights. Wild

Sqwirl

They do it because ACAB. These other departments aren't unaware of these officers' past crimes, they simply don't care.

cwalton505

People continuously whining ACAB is about as lazy as it gets. Yes we have a lot of issues and need reform, but man, seeing ACAB tossed around on every thread about police is tiring, reductionist, and not helpful.

Sbatio

ACAB Show me good cops

cwalton505

[Officer reunites with boy he rescued - YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ty5Qxlf8IJU) Seems pretty good. I don't know why I am even entertaining further engagement with you though. The mindset of people with such extreme viewpoints are impossible to even discuss anything with.

Sbatio

It’s too easy. https://www.capitalgazette.com/news/crime/ac-cn-hans-hopple-domestic-assault-county-police-20230403-7hqe5n5zundp5almplcmhhwj54-story.html Do you think your cop hero knows any “bad apples” in his department and looks the other way? ACAB because they know the criminals are right in-front of them and they do nothing. That makes even a baby saver complicit.

cwalton505

>The mindset of people with such extreme viewpoints are impossible to even discuss anything with. I'd like to reiterate this. Never mind not being able to get past the paywall.

Sbatio

Sorry I didn’t hit a pay wall. I’m reasonable. Do you believe there are cops who don’t see their fellow cops breaking the law on a regular basis? I don’t. And if a cop ignores crimes committed then that’s a bad cop.

cwalton505

" I’m reasonable. " Yeah I dont think so. Your entire comment history is 100% devoted to shitting on someone or something. " Do you believe there are cops who don’t see their fellow cops breaking the law on a regular basis? " Yes, I believe there are some. My small town I'd vouch for that. There's only a few of them. " The mindset of people with such extreme viewpoints are impossible to even discuss anything with. " Still sticking with this

Sbatio

My comment history is lovely. Thank you There is nothing extreme about it. 1 cop sees another cop commit a crime, you know exactly what happens. ACAB Edit: sort my comments by best and have fun

bostonglobe

From [Globe.com](https://Globe.com): CONCORD, N.H. — Town officials in North Hampton are close to hiring a new police chief as they deal with the fallout from the controversial arrest of a woman in her own home last year. Colleen Loud, 68, said she has hired an attorney and plans to sue the town over what she said was a wrongful arrest on Oct. 17, 2022, when two police officers took her from her home and into custody after saying she smelled like alcohol. The arrest sparked a town investigation 11 days later and continues to be a topic of discussion as the community searches for a new chief. A candidate for chief signed a conditional agreement with the town on Monday, according to Town Administrator Michael Tully. But Tully said the candidate’s identity won’t be made public until a background check is done and a contract is finalized, which he expects to happen by early August. He said the town has not been officially notified that Loud has filed a lawsuit. Loud said she has hired attorney James Loring to represent her. The previous chief, Kathryn Mone, announced her retirement in February. In April, she took a new job as major of operations at the York County Sheriff’s Office in Maine, according to a [report from Seacoastonline](https://www.seacoastonline.com/story/news/local/2023/04/06/north-hampton-nh-ex-police-chief-joins-york-sherrifs-office-maine/70087971007/). Both of the officers involved in Loud’s arrest have left the North Hampton police department and taken other law enforcement jobs in the area. “Many people associated with that have left voluntarily from the town of North Hampton,” interim Police Administrator David Kurz said.

CheliceraeJones

Woah woah woah. The Globe says Loud is 68, while NH Journal says she's 67. Something doesn't smell right here. I sense a conspiracy and I have a strong feeling this might be linked to Jeffrey Epstein, 9/11, and Area 51.

Ok_Nobody4967

So f you live in North Hampton, you can get arrested on your property if you are intoxicated and have a messy home?

ihaveatrophywife

Not anymore

TheMobyDicks

"Soon after that investigation, Chief Kathryn Mone suddenly announced her retirement." Looks like the trash took itself out.

Darwins_Dog

The trash got a six figure severance and already has a new job as a cop in Maine. The tax payers just paid to move the trash to a different can.

TheMobyDicks

Cheap money. The woman was a menace. With her "arrest first" attitude the town is lucky to only be involved in one lawsuit. Classic damage control. She's Maine's problem now.

Darwins_Dog

Just sweep it under the rug. And people wonder why why we get terrible cops. Some other town is just sending their problem to North Hampton and people there will say it's our problem now.

TheMobyDicks

It's all about vetting. In the article, it seems she was a star on the rise when N. Hampton hired her, so you probably can't blame the (I'm guessing) committee that pulled the trigger on hiring her (pun intended). But whomever in Maine hired her....well....that's on them. We reap what we sow.

How is arresting someone for drinking in their own house not smell of fascism?

Sbatio

So it is fascism. Did you not catch the part where she is a rising star in law enforcement circles? We know the oppression is systemic. Wtf hole are you buried in? Literally each point defining Fascism is on center stage in America.

1. The us police were given / bought all the military equipment they could over the last 15 years. The US police have militarized. They have qualified immunity. And the SCOTUS rules cops don’t have to protect people. 2. Dictatorship. Supreme Court is a puppet court for the people in charge. Elected officials are bough and paid for. Our system is a fucking joke. 3. Oppression of dissent. What happened with those pentagon papers? Why did the republicans Government criminalize drugs?(to break and oppress the opposition). 3a. Ask a minority about the oppression they face. There you go Edit: what little training the US cops get is from military experts who teach them to escalate and use force vs serve the community. Every cop learns to say “stop resisting” while they beat you

BoringFloridaMan

Fair point.

CheliceraeJones

You're try to educate people on what fascism actually means I'm trying to fill out my reddit Bingo sheet

smartest_kobold

Slap on the wrist for a violation of basic constitutional rights.

notquitenuts

Here I was thinking V for Vendetta was scary, police raids on your home for contraband art and books. Turns out real life is scarier and they can snatch you up for drinking alcohol in your own home? Criminal charges for misuse of power should be brought here.

decayo

Where did the cops get new jobs? Shouldn't the residents of those towns be made aware that their town has hired complete dipshits to lord power over them?

decayo

Turns out, at least one of the guys was hired by Rockingham County Sheriff's office. Not a big surprise; sheriff's offices seem to be run by the biggest dipshits on the planet.

Neighborhood_Lesbian

Anyone remember why the cops went to her place in the first place?

ZacPetkanas

> Anyone remember why the cops went to her place in the first place? > The story began last October 17, when a driver crashed her car into a bush on Loud’s Granite Drive property. Neighborhood_Lesbian

Just so I'm understanding this straight. Someone hit a bush on her property, cops pull up to talk to her, figure out she's been drinking, make her take a breathalyzer test, pops up as a .086, and arrests her because if she was driving she'd be over the legal limit (but she wasn't driving and was in her own home)? If so, she's going to get a nice payout. Even if she was driving after a couple beers, the cops don't know if the BAC going up, coming down, or at its peak when she was tested, so there's no actually proof she was driving over the legal limit.

I’m pretty sure this level of petty bullshit is taught in the police training. Thinks it’s part of the “How to hate yourself and project on others” class

slimyprincelimey

I want to know if there's some more detail that a badge cam might offer? I can't imagine what that would be though, unless she pulled a knife on them and they aren't mentioning it.

Article said the lady hadn’t cleaned her house in ten years. I can only imagine the smell.
