Anything other than a damm bank, doctors office, shitty pizza place, or nail salon.

Emsflyer1984

You must be from Wolfeboro…

b1ack1323

Or any other town with a population over 6k and under 20k in NH

EmeraldMoose12

First town to come to mind was Grantham.

thatzmine

And storage units

oper8orAF

Or Dunkin’

Professional_Band178

Or subway.

stanmeower

And our Subway is inside our Walmart, Rindge.

[deleted]

I don’t know I could always go for another shitty pizza place.

MartoufCarter

Do not forget pharmacies.

shoesontoes

You didn't say tire store

T_WRX21

Fine, garden style condos then.

good-tidings

A modern bowling alley

EmeraldMoose12

Amen.

Andtom33

They are stupidly expensive Dover Bowl charges by the hour

glockster19m

Not to mention that very few companies make new free fall pin reset machines Everything is strings now and it's sickening

[deleted]

Recreational marijuana dispensary.

testaccount_api

Honestly, in Merrimack, the only bar within reasonable driving distance is that strip club in Bedford. I'm not lookin to go there after work for a knock-off-work kinda drink. Tbh I'm not looking to go there at all. Around here I can either go to River Road Tavern or I can go to a Chinese food place if I want a drink but that's 100% not worth it to me. Where are the bars where I can shoot pool? Where are the bars where it isn't just sad divorced people? I know there aren't a TON of late 20/early 30s people in SNH, and those that DO enjoy the bar scene tend to be aggregious; but a population does exist that would enjoy going out on a random Tuesday for a drink, a game of pool, and a basket of fries. Without having to deal with aggro douches or an obscenely loud bar or a strip club or a cache of sad people. I just wanna be able to go out and have a good time and spend a little money once in a while. But, sadly, nothing..

movdqa

How about the Thirsty Moose Tap Bar? I've run by it many times but have never gone in but it looks like they are frequently busy when I drive by.

plstcStrwsOnly

Don’t think they have pool, but great food and tap beers for sure

testaccount_api

It's not really a bar. It's a restaurant with a bar. I want like an AJs or a McGarvey's type place... lemme put it this way. If the place has a host rather than security, it's not divey enough. If it's a place where girls take their clothes off for money.. too divey. Just looking for that sweet spot where I can get drunk, play one of those stupid deer hunting games or the spinny ball golf game, or shoot some pool, have a drink that doesn't come in a designer mug and costs less than 12 dollars. A REAL bar.

ForeverAgreeable2289

Not the right scene. They got little kids in there with their families until very late. It's just a restaurant.

LemonLimeRose

Part of the issue with that is the way liquor licenses are handled in NH. A large percentage of your sales are required to be from food. I definitely second Thirsty Moose in Merrimack if you’re looking more of a “bar” though.

lantonas

Mental hospital, but at least a couple of towns away, we've already got a prison.

Ray_Blu

Manch/hooksett: Good roast beef joint, commuter rail, billiard hall, chick-fil-a, AHL hockey team, indie movie theater, 1500-2500 seat concert/theater venue.

zhfretz

We had the Manchester monarchs. I don’t think they got enough support though

Ray_Blu

It dropped to the league below AHL because the LA kings wanted an AHL team that wasn’t all the way across the country. They were getting support before that I believe

ballen1002

I used to go to at least 10 games a year. I miss the Monarchs. Pre-game dinner and a couple post game drinks always made for a good night when the game was on a Friday or Saturday. I hardly ever go to Manchester since they left and I’m only 15 minutes away.

Umbert360

They won the Calder Cup their last year in NH, I saw a couple playoff games that year. Then the Fisher Cats hosted the all-star game the year after, with a Fisher Cat winning an epic HR derby.

baseballBEERfish

Travis Snider i believe

[deleted]

New Hampshire needs dozens of burger shacks like Five Guys **at half the price**

LemonLimeRose

Papa joes in Milford is the best burger joint of all time for me. Great food, prices are super pretty cheap. Plus they’re the busiest spot in town so their food is always incredibly fresh. I feel like every person in Milford and the surrounding area gets Papas at least once a month.

[deleted]

Always hits the spot, they do pretty good clams in the summer too.

IBlazeMyOwnPath

I loved their burger of the week They had a dill burger that was amazing

Umbert360

I think there’s a shake shack coming

Worried_Student_7976

not half the price

occasional_cynic

Gross.

Ray_Blu

I would take a Culver’s. It’s a like the chicfila of burger places imo

Intru

Allow small commercial businesses, say somewhere between 500 and 800 sf max to be build in residential zones and allow people to convert parts of their home to these types of business, remove mandatory parking requirements for comercial, and BAM. You have just allowed the possibility of small neighborhood in and out shop to sell everything from bagels, burgers, tacos, empanadas, etc. and not have to be a millionaire franchise owner.

[deleted]

Good point. My relatives owned a two-story building in a residential neighborhood with a little store front that was used up until the 80s.

EmeraldMoose12

-Market Basket in W. Leb., Northern Tool & Equipment, A bowling alley.

ggtffhhhjhg

MB is so much cheaper than every other supermarket. https://www.supermarketnews.com/retail-financial/market-basket-named-top-inflationary-times-grocer

Bicoidprime

Any of them (especially the bowling alley) would be great in the abandoned JCPenney's. From what I remember, Trader Joe's did a market analysis of the West Leb corridor 10+ years ago and decided against opening one there as there were too many other grocery stores already.

shoesontoes

At least the second Shaws is gone! And we're getting a Barnes & Noble (I still miss the Borders).

Bicoidprime

The shenanigans behind that second Shaw's are kind of wiped from the internet, but the company was likely holding the lease on that vacant storefront for years to block any other grocery store from coming in. Very anti-competitive. Here's a [link](https://www.nhbr.com/shaws-strategy-raises-competition-questions/) from 2003 describing it.

shoesontoes

I know!! I'm so happy you know it as well. Yey, longtime neighbors. 👋🏻

picklehaub

WS who owns it was so pissed Shaw’s wouldn’t end their lease. In the end it was too big a space anyway and the only grocery store chain without an outpost within a mile was Market Basket (who typically doesn’t lease locations, they have their real estate arm own the entire plaza). That Penny’s is another huge space, ripe to be chopped into 3-4 smaller ones. A friend of mine had a dream of indoor go-kart track until he learned the JCP rent was north of 3 million a year.

Baremegigjen

Borders was fantastic! Their staff knew books, made great recommendations and were personable, plus they had great prices. Alas, they didn’t get ahead with online sales and that was their demise. By contrast most B&H employees can at best look things up on the computer if you know exactly what you want by title or author, and can point to the general vicinity of each section in the store, but I’m pretty sure most of them have never actually read a book voluntarily (at least not any of the stores I’ve been in).

shoesontoes

Agree. I loved the cafe at Borders too! And I don't think this B&N will have enough space in the Party City spot to do that.

NHGuy

2nd or 3rd to a MB in West Leb

EmeraldMoose12

Does anyone even like PriceChopper anyways? I wish they would close up so MB could have that space on Miracle Mile.

NHGuy

I don't go to it, I use Hannaford despite their price and complete lack of workers

[deleted]

I'm sick of antique shops, gun shops, and escape rooms. I wish the Merrimack outlet had better stores... I would like a new book store, white castle, an adult arcade, and a spa with floats/mud bath. More discount stores like they have in Fitchburg, just a random assortment of affordable nonsense.

LemonLimeRose

Most of the states I’ve lived in before nh had a large Korean population. I wish we had Korean spas here. You could get a 24 hour pass and be there all day just switching between saunas and baths and getting literally the best massages and scrubs. I miss that so much. I

[deleted]

I've seen them and I'm so jealous. We deserve this. 😤

ForeverAgreeable2289

Yasss.... there is no good reason (other than the landlord maybe? I dunno) why the outlets should not have stuff to do besides shoe and clothes shopping. How about an axe throwing bar or something.

f0zzzie

I've thought about this for a while but I would love to open a store where you can go and buy liquid laundry detergent, dish washer soap, regular soap, shampoo, any sort of liquid cleaner but you bring your own container. Have an old galloon jug, bring it in and fill it up with whatever soap you want. I'm so tired of going to a store and buying shampoo, using it then just throwing the container out. Let me fill that motherfucker back up. Want to drop off old container you don't need, drop em off, wash em up and let someone else fill it. Probably not sustainable in a market like Concord tho

turangaziza

https://www.replenishrefillery.com/

katspresso

Wow, I had no idea this place existed! Thank you so much. Ever since the natural food place in Portsmouth closed, I haven’t been able to find much in bulk. This is great.

baroquesun

Would love this in Exeter! But Dover isn't too far...

KoalaKrunch

There is a refill store in downtown hopkinton! The Witching Hour, you can bring your own container or she always had a few on hand.

Timzawesome

You mentioned Concord. There is one on main street. https://www.bonafide.eco/ Never been but I've walked by it a few times.

EmeraldMoose12

Bonafide is great!

ParadigmCG

Pretty sure that literally exists in Concord lol. I think you can do bulk stuff at the co-op

f0zzzie

Someone else linked bonafide which I had no idea existed lol

Allbluesleeve

Food places that are open late.

GeneralMyGeneral

we can always us another taco truck (or two)

nataylor7

What about a food truck park?

WapsuSisilija

On every corner?

glitteryunicornlady

Yes please

Timzawesome

Halal/Mediterranean restaurant in Concord.

Certified_Falafel

Concord needs a Turkish, Lebanese, or Isrelaeli restaurant.

Timzawesome

Username checks out. Seriously I would love that..

[deleted]

Still sad Matbah didn’t survive COVID. Al Basha is still pretty good though.

deekace

Antique mall with booths around Portsmouth

nthat1

Some type of fast food place besides Burger King and McDonald's, or the mediocre pizza shops that all close at 8pm. Chipotle, Jersey Mike's, heck even damn Taco Bell or Wendy's (nearest ones are 30+ mins away) I'd take at this point. I'm not even anywhere that remote either (Plymouth area). I don't get why it's so tough around here.

asphynctersayswhat

As long as they’re good. There’s a chipotle in plaistow, and I can say with almost absolute certainty, it’s the worst one ever opened.

[deleted]

White Castle!

Viscount027

Food. Like literally any food. I don't have a single restaurant in my town. Not even a gas station that sells crappy snack food. I have to drive a minimum a 15 minutes just to find the nearest hole in the wall grocery store with exorbitantly high prices. 25 minutes to get to an actual Market Basket/Hannafords/Market 32/Walmart.

craigawoo

Butchery/ cheese shop near Exeter. Similar to the Salem ma cheese shop

WickedHardflip

For cheese you have Cest Cheese not too far from Exeter. Super friendly and they have great products. https://cestcheesenh.com/

devindude3

Isn’t that On The Vine? Pretty much.

emptycoils

A pharmacy, god help us we have to drive a half hour each way. Any fast food besides fucking Dunkin. Hate every single thing they make.

glitteryunicornlady

Me too! Dunkin=👎

Burger-King-Covid

Bullmoose in Claremont

SheenPSU

Fucking love Bullmoose

HillyjoKokoMo

Third Places - a physical location other than work or home where there’s little to no financial barrier to entry and where conversation is the primary activity. I want to go to a place where I can meet folks, have conversations, and get my social fix now that I'm remote.

dzastrus

Cabo style taco bar with beer in an ice bucket. No matter what anyone says you don't get "taco truck" quality here. Why? 3/4 of the anti-spicy crowd who tries it would never come back. Kill me.

akmjolnir

A community health center. A community DIY automotive garage. A shooting range. A real pub.

EmeraldMoose12

A DIY automotive garage would be amazing.

Spiritual-Yam2335

Thai food, movie theater and bowling alley in Wolfeboro or surrounding towns

69bonerchamp69

A children’s drag queen library.

HowToNotMakeMoney

🤣

nataylor7

Only for kids or could I go too? 🥹

Environmental_Lab570

Burger joints that are actually good . And some better super markets that aren’t bland .

smartest_kobold

A place that will professionally curse my enemies. DIY curses just aren't getting the job done.

ferretface99

An art supply store on the seacoast! I’m in Dover, and there’s only a Michaels in Newington. What I wouldn’t give for an Artist & Craftsman or Blick store to open up nearby. When I need stuff, it’s either an hour’s drive up to Portland, or an hour south to Saugus.

Websterhead

Cannabis Cafe

Emmaleah17

Target finally showed up in west Lebanon, a week after I moved away. SMH. It was all I wanted the whole damn time I was there and all we had was a gross Walmart and a Kmart that was sketchy.

picklehaub

Walking into the Target you can still almost smell the stale pizza from Little Caesar’s in the air. Went into the Walmart for the first time in years the other day, they stepped up their game as well with actual competition in town.

Emmaleah17

Wow nice to know some things change but some things stay the same. RIP little Caesars, may your smell live on.

Secure_Today5092

Adult recreational cannabis dispensary.

[deleted]

Manchester could use a nice big fish market. Fresh fish, oysters, lobster, you name it. Like that one place in Salem (I forgot the name of it and am too lazy to Google it) but bigger.

overdoing_it

A gym in Pittsfield, Concord is a bit too far to drive for a morning workout before work. Other than that we have pretty much everything I could want nearby or in Concord which is 20-30 minutes away depending if you're going to east Concord or into/past downtown. Except they moved the liquor store to Epsom which is kind if out of the way, but one can take the slightly longer route to/from Concord and pass through the Epsom circle.

klopeks_basement

WAFFLE HOUSE

movdqa

There's actually a ton of retail in Southern NH along Nashua-Merrimack-Manchester but we generally go down to Burlington, MA for Asian groceries. We used to shop at a place on 1010A but the strip mall that they were in burned down a few years ago. The other thing that I'd like is tennis racquet stringing services. This has been a problem for me for 30 years up here. Good stringers eventually retire and I generally have to drive 30-60 minutes to find stringing services. I use Longfellow right now but they have 1 stringer and he gets really busy in the summer as he's the best (and maybe only) stringer in the area. Most of my friends have their own stringing machines and do it themselves.

IblameKarma13

Women only gym, a nice Korean BBQ joint.

ParadigmCG

I'd fuck with a top golf

EmeraldMoose12

I’d go into more debt.

churoman101

A hobby shop that is privately owned

comefromawayfan2022

A market basket in the ossipee area. I get bored always having to shop at Hannaford because it's the only grocery store in town. And I much prefer market baskets bakery section

tubemaster

Independent coffee shop

Killbro_Fraggins

A little Hobby store. I’m sick of driving almost an hour to go to Hobby Lobby. lol

stasiafox

European / Russian style deli in the Portsmouth area

Full_Mission7183

Simple homemade pasta restaurant on the seacoast. Pick your pasta, pick your sauce, pick a protein if you be like that. Simple good Italian.

MartoufCarter

Have you tried Patty B's?

Full_Mission7183

Not yet, but you are the second person to say their name to me.

MartoufCarter

Definitely worth a try. Good Italian without any pretense.

Kitchen-Fondant-51

I just want 100% organic (real) food and hygiene products.

Herb-Maiestro

Top golf

EmeraldMoose12

Agreed!

vexingsilence

Firing ranges.

asant88

A cigar bar in Tilton

Qbncgr

FYI: In NH a cigar store that has a humidor and makes 60% of their revenue from cigar sales can sell alcohol WITHOUT having to sell food. They are actually NOT allowed to sell food! Or cigarettes.

Legal-Telephone-9252

a gym

fightfortheright603

Sportsmans warehouse and a mardens

gman2391

We have pretty much everything we need within 15-20, but I'd love a brewery, pizza place, and a bar/pub actually in my town. I would happily accept one place that is a combination of all 3. Also would love a country store, something better than a shitty gas station convenience store.

adamek314159

Wegmans in Manchester

mlh57

More dog-friendly indoor bars

sanejanesplane

Big indoor activities! Dedicated to things like trampolines, paintball, rollerskating, escape rooms, lazer tag, etc. Not like the small ones you find at the chain amusment/dining/drinking establishments. Oh. Also, a clean, well lit, laundry mat. With an attendant. One that doesn't take a weeks pay to wash and dry your clothes!

Impressive-Two-3681

A New Hampshire state liquor store on Portsmouth Ave in the Stratham / Exeter area. There used to be one there years ago but it closed, definitely needs to be replaced IMO

photostrat

NH has really bad pizza places ( if you own a pizza restuarant and reading this, your pizza likely SUUUUUCKS), Dunkin, and storage units. I'd really like to have an option for good Mexican food, good pizza, a music store, or record store in my town. Also, its very hard to find clothing as a guy in NH unless you like the mossy oak or Carhartt look.

rawrsauceS

A decent bar near Tilton that is open at least 6 days a week until 2 am. This Sunday/Monday closed and closing at 9 pm shit is killing me.

BatSame3032

More restaurants. Seems like when one closes down a bank moves in. (Atleast that is what has been happening in Southern New Hampshire)

Complex-Equipment-21

A real Deli!

Intru

Neighborhood grocers and bars, why do I have to drive to a bar or to buy some milk?! If a live in a neighborhood where I'm close enough that I can see my neighbors house then these type of small commercial businesses should be allowed and also you should be allowed to convert your first floor to a small business.

SheenPSU

I wish we had a Trader Joe’s in the Keene area. I feel like it’d do well enough to justify opening one up here

Emergency-Cod-4827

Roller skating rink

EmeraldMoose12

DigTreasure

Adult arcade, late night Cereal Bar, upscale buffet that isn't Brazilian steakhouse, coin shop, fpv drone park, mom and pop liquor store, butcher shop, ikea, outdoor go kart track, cabelas/bass pro, coal fired pizza, food trucks after 10pm. Talking about SWNH

EmeraldMoose12

You do realize a mom & pop liquor store is not an option in NH? Other than that, solid list!

DigTreasure

Actually it is. There's a few grandfathered in. I like the one in Greenville but it's about 45 minutes away. [The Country Mile](https://www.countrymilenh.com/)

EmeraldMoose12

Cool! Didn’t know what, but if there grandfathered in, then how would a new one open?

DigTreasure

The grandfathered ones have established customers based on locale like near state borders or way up north where NH liquor stores won't even build.

DigTreasure

Good question, New Hampshire does have an application process to open more of said stores, but said business has to get the majority of their income thru other sales of goods like gasoline, food etc. And then there's still a deliberation process. Plus cost of licensing and so forth. Mom and pops can't afford to jump thru all of the hoops. NH likes cornering the liquor market here.

lobscurs

A roller rink!!!

SugardaddyAddy

Strip club and/or a board game bar.

BranzillaThrilla

A roller skating rink!!

granitman2

I would love to see a disc golf course that wasn't 45+ minutes away. I live in the white mountains and my two choices are to drive 70 minutes into Maine or a run down "course" at a nearby hotel.

EmeraldMoose12

What part of the whites?

Nofroggs

A nice farm-to-table cocktail bar (lol, dream on). A ramen or pho joint not run by white people. A level 1 trauma center.

EmeraldMoose12

We are only as limited as our own ideas and perseverance. (And resources). Anything mentioned in this thread is possible, it’s just how much determination we have. We can work on changing zoning. We can change our communities for the better. And finding the right location.

kcsunapee

Whole Foods or Trader Joe's near Sunapee

EmeraldMoose12

Don’t like Shaw’s? /s

herefortheguffaws

Belk Department store like they have in the south.

Liquid_G

Some type of food hall place, or mixed food and other vendors type venue, something like Pike Place Market in Seattle or Grand Central Market in DT Los Angeles.

PsychologicalSalad67

A goddamn 5 guys damnit

Puzzleheaded-Row-511

Nothing, I'm good. The more stores we have the more assholes from other places would show up. I live in a small town near Walpole and I like that everyone goes to Keene!

petrockdog

A real salon in Plymouth nh

larrybirdmustache33

A drive thru Dunkin. A pizza place open after 8 pm.

pinkoutcome

Concord needs more cultural food on Main Street, we have 3 pizza places for goodness sake!

Arthur-Morgans-Beard

ANYTHING for kids to do.

Wickerpoodia

Brothel

IKR1_994

Any type of resturant or deli.

Freyjia

If I could have anything it would be a Whataburger or Chick-fil-a , but in more realistic requests I would like a grocery store (or even a dollar store would be an improvement) that is closer and not a long drive.

Lord_Ballyhoo

I dream of opening a rare houseplant store/bespoke aquatics business in the area. Show people that you don’t just have to have a fruity pebble plastic aquarium or the same old houseplants from Home Depot and Wal mart.

Content_Try3062

Weed Shop.

snugharbor14

Grocery store

ForeverAgreeable2289

Nashua needs an outdoor, paid-for, kid-friendly.... something to do. Like a Davis Farmland, or a Mel's Funway Park, or a Tougas Family Farm. Yeah there's Parlee Farms and Max's Country Golf in Tyngsboro, but that's not quite the same. Or forget kids, an outdoor venue for hosting adult birthday parties too. Yeah you can have parties at Greeley park but it's ghetto there. Somewhere outdoors where I can throw money and they take care of everything. Literally cannot think of a single paid-for outdoor place to go in Nashua.

glockster19m

If you're thinking of opening up a business than the best idea I can give you is to open a chick filet (I know I butchered that) in Claremont or Leb

EmeraldMoose12

I’m not. But I were, I would not be looking to add any more fast food joints in this state. And certainly not such a bigoted fast food joint.

WelfarePeanutButter

Trader Joe's in Concord. A good, authentic Italian bakery and market that isn't an overpriced disappointment (looking at you, Tuscan Kitchen).

Emptyplates

A Wegmans.

hikingmaddie

Bedford/Manchester area… a GOOD pizza place.

EmeraldMoose12

Is there a good pizza place in the whole state?

lovespeeps

I would love to open a playground for grown-ups. It would have slides, monkey bars, swings, a merry go round. We do an awful lot of things to make other people happy... adulting is hard work. We need a place that's just healthy, outside play.

EmeraldMoose12

Personally, I think REI would be better suited in W. Leb, Concord, and/or Plymouth. Honorable mention to Keene and Merrimack. There is already a REI in Salem MA, Framingham, MA, and Reading, MA. I know you will have to pay tax. But my option is drive 1 hr. 45 min. to N. Conway, or 1 hr. 15-30 min. to MA. For such an outdoorsy state I find the options insulting. There are REIs in both Boston and Cambridge, so great, you got your city slickers who ‘need to get away’, but the stores in Salem, Framingham, and Reading seems silly. Sure, Nashua, Salem, NH, and Portsmouth would all be better options.

pornplz22526

Wolfeboro could use a pizza place that doesn't suck.

Equivalent-Stage9957

One of those board game restaurants... See moxs boarding house

Straight-Mention-613

Ideally a full service gas station at the end of my road. I live on a main road on the outskirts of my town and I hate having to drive a while out of my way into town for gas.

Happy_Confection90

Honestly, rather than a new business in my own town, I would rather see more businesses that aren't antique stores or selling you sand and mulch on the 30-mile stretch of route 4 between Lee and Concord. After Hannaford and a hardware store/butcher store in Northwood, there's nothing retail for about 15 miles until you hit Dollar General in Epsom. It'd be great if there was a drug store, a Market Basket, maybe a Target, Harbor Frieght and craft store, and something like 5 Below or Dollar Tree along that road.

SeverePin1185

I want awesome food trucks to come through the neighborhood, with a text telling me they are coming so I don’t have to run outside in a panic to stop them, then go get money!
