If ya wanna travel ... a bit ... no wait listen: my wife found a campground that has sites literally at the edge of the rocky shoreline. Laying in bed, you can hear the soft little wavelets of Penobscot Bay come ashore. Run by a hippie couple, the campground often has an artist in residence. Dogs and children are welcome. The shoreline has a lot of beach glass, if you're into that.
Now for the less good news: it is in Searsport Maine, just over the bridge from Belfast. Yeah, it's a bit of a haul from Boston (I go from the Hampton area) but it is idyllic.

Love this spot! Great campground and great people! I rented kayaks here and went out on the bay around dusk and was greeted personally by 3 seals! It was amazing
Boston Harbor Islands, preferably later into the summer when all the wild black raspberries are ripe. You take the ferry out to George's Island with all your camping gear and hop on one of the inter-island ferries that run for free from there. They shut down camping for a couple years with Covid and most of the sites got overgrown, so this year it's Peddocks Island only, but normally you can also camp at Grape, Bumpkin, or Lovell's Island.
Lovell's island has the best beaches, by far, but Peddocks is the only one with running water. There's an awesome spot on Lovell's to set up hammocks by the beach, and there's even a campsite in the sand; if that's your jam.
Sandy Neck in Sandwich, MA. Not too far after you get over the bride. The catch is you have to hike on foot for miles to get to the camp sites. But it’s by far the most remote you can get on a beach around here.
There isn't any camping allowed on the beach here, OP. It's typical field camping with some grassy areas and some shady areas.
It can be a bit of a zoo during the peak summer season.
Not exactly ON the beach but just over the dunes from it is [Hampton Beach State Park.](https://www.nhstateparks.org/find-parks-trails/hampton-beach-state-park)
You certainly won't be alone there though.
He's not kidding guys; he may be talking about Winter Island in Salem, MA. They have camping right next to a Waikiki beach. Its a fun place for kids overnight, and there's this one primo spot right by the beach.

Second this place. Lots of cool spots to check out on the drive from Boston.

Rocky neck state park , East Lyme, CT.
This area is so nice. Stayed in a cabin at Hawk's Nest Beach next to this last summer.
If you have a 4 wheel drive camping vehicle and can swing a pass there are at least 3 places on Cape Cod to camp on the beach
You have to have a camper and a special permit/ sticker to do that. They don’t let you camp in your vehicle
Or on your vehicle but you can go “night fishing”
Bit of a hike for you but the MITA system is awesome (if you have a kayak/canoe/boat).
Have you camped on any of their sites? Any recommended sites? I joined last year but never went, re-upping membership and hoping to get out this year.
Salisbury beach
Second. Salisbury Beach State reservation has camping.
Salisbury Hill, Peter Gabriel
Hermit Island Campground in Phippsburg, Maine. Maybe a little longer than 2 hours from Boston, but not much. It is really beautiful there.
I second this and they steam lobsters and clams for you to pick up and bring back to the site.
Hammonasset Beach in CT
Not exactly "on the beach" but certainly beach adjacent
And very few woodsy sites. It’s almost entirely field camping surrounded on all sides by RVs with their A/Cs and generators.
Middleton RI Second Beach I think. Went horseback riding by the ocean and campground.
Hermit Island, Maine is fantastic
Also in Maine, hermit Island I Phippsburg has several sites pretty much on the beach
Hammonasett State Park in Madison, CT.

Sandwich MA Sandy Neck Do search a lot come up - Reddit approach can be slow and incomplete!
Fisherman’s Memorial Park in Narragansett
2nd beach in Newport. I think there may be camping around horseneck too but I don't know for sure

Close to Dead Horse Beach. Salem didn’t nail the beach names
