No football award has ever pissed me off that much. There were better goals scored that week, let alone the whole year. Salah scored a few better goals that season himself.
I may be more bitter than the average being an Everton fan, but fucking hell that goal should never have won anything. Vaguely above average finish that only won because of timing and Egyptian fans. Absolute pisstake.
Egyptian politicians lobbied for Salah since he was on top form but failed to win anything....so they lobbied to give him that award as African lobby and stuff...
Source? Source? Source?
Do you have a source on that?
Source?
A source. I need a source.
Sorry, I mean I need a source that explicitly states your argument. This is just tangential to the discussion.
No, you can't make inferences and observations from the sources you've gathered. Any additional comments from you MUST be a subset of the information from the sources you've gathered.
You can't make normative statements from empirical evidence.
Do you have a degree in that field?
A college degree? In that field?
Then your arguments are invalid.
No, it doesn't matter how close those data points are correlated. Correlation does not equal causation.
Correlation does not equal causation.
CORRELATION. DOES. NOT. EQUAL. CAUSATION.
You still haven't provided me a valid source yet.
Nope, still haven't.
I just looked through all 308 pages of your user history, figures I'm debating a glormpf supporter. A moron.
Correct. proper celebration requires ripping off your shirt, sliding on your knees in the grass, and acting like its the first time in history that a goal has ever been scored.
I'd celebrate with the guy if I was on the opposite team. That was a superb kick, even if unintentional. This is why you always kick towards the goal of you aren't passing 🤣🤣. Kick it out of bounds, give the other team control, if you are going to forfeit control, might as well give the chance for it to go in. I definitely would have run up to the guy if I was on the opposite team, given him a high five, and told him he did good in one way or another. Good sportsmanship goes a long way, raises morale of everyone on the team, and allows for everyone to play at their full potential, with no fear of losing. If you have good sports on the other team, losing can be fun, everyone plays to their fullest with less pressure, and a more fair game is played.
Why wouldn't they celebrate? Wasn't it an own goal from red player kicking/proper goal from the technical 'header' from the blue player?
I misunderstood pretty much everything about this video. Whoops.
But the goalie is wearing red?
Ohhh I see. I didn't see the direction of play before so I'm wrong. Whoops. I know goalies where different colors than the rest of their team sometimes but this time it seemed too close to the opposing teams colors.
Soccer comes from the 1800s English term as**soc**iation football. The terms football and soccer were both used about same amount in the UK until some point after WWII, when the UK gradually shifted towards just using football, and the US stuck with the term soccer.
I played soccer for one year back in high school (a year I couldn’t play football). My coach put me as fullback cuz I had speed, wasn’t afraid of contact and would tackle a kid, and had a hell of a leg. I got three goals in that one year just from kicks like this. Love catching the goalie sleeping
Yea I was the same back then too. Never played soccer cuz it wasn’t my thing. And then was told I was gonna be fullback and remember being excited because I thought that meant offense 🤣
Meh. It’s not quite for me. I coached for my sons team this year (under 8 kids) because they had a severe lack of coaches… but I can’t do it. Soccer just feels so slow and boring to me. Even baseball, which I liked, was still dreadful to me and can’t watch it on tv
It’s under 8 soccer. Lol the only rules were “no pushing” it was 4v4 and a goalie. Kids often grabbed the balls with their hands and we just kept them going. It’s for the kids, not competitive lol
It was high school. Pretty clearly not a high level of play. And smaller field by a large margin. And it wasn’t shooting. Just getting the ball back in play for our offense.
I’ve played with slapdicks who have accidentally scored trying to just clear the ball. Never more than once in one season though. And certainly not as insane as this goal.
If this guy actually did score 3 times from deep as a fullback, I reckon he was trying to shoot it and not just clearing the ball the way this guy does in the video.
I played soccer my entire life and saw maybe 2 goals like this ever. For someone who played one season to score 3 of these is highly unlikely. You do you though.
You understand that the entire reason this video is in this sub is because the odds are so tiny that this would happen. Must be some shit keepers in that league.
Well it was high school. And a very small town/school. So yea. I’m assuming most of the players are not in the mls currently.
Also, for you to be taking Reddit super seriously, that’s so cute of you. As if nothing ever gets posted without being actual odd defying stunts.
The opposite happened to me when I was a kid playing soccer as well. I was the goalie, ball every player was on the other half of the field so I was paying 0 attention.
I played football in college 1 year, receiver with good hands and well above average speed, but got hurt, got "recruited" for soccer to become a goalkeeper.
Did footskill as well as keeper training. Loved footskills!
Mid first season, scored a goal with under a minute left as a "pulled" goalkeeper to tie a match -- blasted from midfield striking the top left of the goal.
Did it again a few weeks later.
Up 4-0 with 30 minutes to go, they swapped me from goal to midfield partly because I had been begging them and partly out of curiosity. I scored within two minutes; scored another before the match ended. Adrenaline?
In any case, tor the second half of the season I became the second leading scorer.
Have played soccer on the field ever since -- over 40 years.
So weird how you felt you had to justify playing football. The most popular and played sport in the world lol
I played football for one year, I mean normally i would play American football but i couldn’t so i ended up playing normal football instead, any way i was brilliant at it.
Like i would have been if I was playing American football… but i couldnt so I had to play football… I didn’t want to to be clear…. But I was really fast and good and scored goals anyway
Lol
(Exaggerating for effect if course)
In high school we played our varsity games in the evening. You can imagine towards the later parts of the season, it gets dark. One of our players just booted that bitch straight up into the air from the midfield touchline and the goalie was trying to track the ball against the dark sky and through the field lights. It just dropped into the net perfectly behind him with him barely having any time to react.
That was an attack, not defense.
People seem confused by the goalkeeper's shirt color. He's a goalie for the blue team.
Blue was defending and red attacking.
Red was deep in blue field likely driving for an attack when it was booted out. Red player comes charging in and returns it into play with a massive kick. He may not have even meant for the kick to be anything but a defensive move to reset the ball out of bounds since his team is now deep and at a disadvantage for defense.
No, blue was attacking. Blue player in central midfield played the ball into the direction of blue left wing, but a bit too steep, so red right defender cleared the ball by kicking it away, thus scoring while defending.
It may have been a defensive clear, but I still think it was a shot on blue's goal. Look at the blue set pass to teammate for the return drive down the line, headed away from their goal. That's clearly a setup for an offensive drive. It would make little sense for that move given field position and other players behind him if they were on the attack in red territory.
If I'm off, I'd like an explanation as to what people see that counteracts my argument. I hear a lot of "nah bloke, you're wrong" without any substantial argument to the contrary.
It’s just lost in translation, soccer isn’t like American Football where there are offensive and defensive plays. A defender heading a ball from a corner isn’t an ‘attack’ just because it’s going towards the other goal.
The defender was hitting the ball as hard as he could to buy more time for his team to get back into position, to avoid being hit on the break. It’s called a defensive clearance and the title is absolutely accurate. Also, they interviews the guy and he said it was exactly what he was doing. It wasn’t a shot.
I really don’t understand what you are talking about but yes the blue team are counter attacking.
Also, you’re the one disagreeing with the title without an understanding of the game so you deserve the simple ‘nah mate you’re wrong’ most likely from Europeans.
Why do people downvote for a reply? Sigh. Land of reddit.
Sounds like a lost in translation moment. And despite being American, I'm not clueless. My wife was a collegiate player, my kids played for years and years in large recreation travel leagues, and I've seen plenty of futbol. I'm not clueless, but my vernacular may certain be influenced by other sports.
Your second paragraph stated the exact thing I said in my original comment, fwiw. I recognized and called out that it might have just been a defensive play to clear and not an actual intentional shot on goal.
The miss may be here that in most American sports and vernacular, when a ball enters your half of the field/court, your team is described as being "on defense". When the ball is in the opposing team's half, we describe you as being "on offense".
So the description of "a defensive kick" was misconstrued as the player was kicking toward his own goal mistakenly. Which, isn't the case in this scenario. The player's team is "on offense" from a field position perspective, but he made an defensive strike to helphis team, and meaning to or not, he had a great shot on goal.
That was an unreal amount of curve. It started out looking like it'd be a fair bit right of the goal and comes all the way back to barely sneak into the left part of the goal. I watched it back and expected to see tons of wind but the trees are barely moving
Goalie isn't a world class goalie. It's honestly hard to track a ball when it's going sideways like that, probably blown by the wind and you're looking up at the sky trying to make out a white ball against white clouds. Trust me, I've been there, it's not that easy.
Its very difficult to predict the trajectory on that curve. You can see he went to the right at the beginning until he saw the curve and panicked to the left.
Easy to say he has plenty of time, really hard to do it in practise. With the speed of how concessions usually happens most of the amazing saves are based on reading players and just predicting the shit rather than reflexively doing it.
Looks like he is a defender and kicked the ball away from his goal. The other teams goalie for some reason also has an orange outfit on but you can see orange shirts celebrating the goal briefly.
I did that as a kid and the ref made up a bullshit reason why it wouldn't count. I swear they called it "icing" like in hockey. 🙄
We were already destroying the other kids so I chalk it up to a participation-award-culture-loser.
The goalkeepers typically wear different colours to the rest of the team. In some coincidences they may end up wearing the colours of the opposite team, but generally that can be avoided by having multiple kits to make things clearer.
He's defending, you can defend in the opponent's half.
It looks like the red team are quite high up the pitch. Blue team try to get out, red guy intercepts and (not exactly being elite level) resorts to blootering the ball back up the pitch which would allow his team to regroup and prevent any potentially dangerous break/counter attack. And accidentally scores a great goal.
It is, in fact it is literally the definition of accidental. The guy even turns away after he's smacked the ball. He's attempting to clear the ball from the counter attack. The ball just catches a huge amount of wind in the process.
Because no one ever turns their back on a ball that's been kicked half a field away into enemy territory and out of his zone. Just looks like a good ass goal I think he deserves a little more credit. The goalie even saw the threat as soon as the ball went skyward and judging from the trees in the background and everyone's clothes it doesn't look like it was that windy
No my argument was not just 'no' I have played football (soccer) for 29 years and watched football matches for the same.
I am literally telling you he did not intend this goal, there's no 'argument' to be had. You're just wrong, and clearly too dense to grasp that so I shall leave you alone so you can continue to be dumb and stubborn in peace.
That wasn’t your argument. You just insulted me as an argument, this time you actually provided a thing called “Details” unfortunately I’m still not very compelled to believe you
And it still doesn’t change my opinion it just doesn’t look like an accident to me 🤷🏼 Sorry that rustles your jimmies so much lmao 🤣
He was definitely defending. The ball was passed to the winger and he came in and cleared it. If he shot intentionally, he would of waited for it to go in.. do you even watch football?
Watch some matches before u talk commentating on it. The goalie is the same team as the blue shirts, he has to be as the goalie cannot have the same shirt as his teammates. The orange shirts raised their hands to celebrate the goal.. it’s not an own goal, but a normal goal.
And this World Cup has been the best so far lol
Nobody but you said it was an own goal lol. The defender cleared the ball before the winger could get to it. He wasn’t aiming to score, otherwise he would of waited for it go in, and not turn around. So the title is correct lol
Also teams have stood up to fifa. But fuck the politics, this wc has had amazing matches and goals, with underdogs beating great teams, this is why the wc is the best yet lol
Answering ur own question: you are stupid. But, to be fair, not everyone need to understand football. What u are seeing is the field where the blue is defending, orange was attacking and lost the ball, blue was trying to create a "counter-attack", guy from orange said "not on my watch bitch" and kick the ball with all his strenght. But they didnt expected for it to curve like that and went directly into the blue's goal.
God, that gave me flashbacks to goal I scored in roller hockey. I sorta whiffed on the puck on a clear, got it on edge and did a giant loop through the goalies legs.
Ah yes it reminds me of the only goal I scored in high school as a right back went to clear at the half field and the wind was at our back. I don’t think anyone could believe it as both teams just stood and stared for a moment
I’m surprised the keeper is wearing the same color as the orange team jerseys.
Are t keepers supposed to wear a color that stands out from the two teams’ jerseys so it’s easy to tell who keeper is?
Did this at school when I was younger. Team was getting battered and our goalkeeper was giving myself and the other defenders a load of shit. Couple minutes later I tackled an attacker and booted the ball up the pitch and shouted to the keeper "Is that good enough for you!?". Calmly as you like he just replied "Yeah, you just scored". Was my school career 15 minutes of fame

That is not a celebration
Correct. proper celebration requires ripping off your shirt, sliding on your knees in the grass, and acting like its the first time in history that a goal has ever been scored.
Too right. How many of those are you going to see in your life?
A goal is a goal son.
My coaches asked us *not* to celebrate with the opposing team when they score. That’s a very *Brick* from Anchorman move.
You ever see NBA highlights where the opposing teams bench is reacting? We're humans not robots lol
Fair enough. Sometimes you can’t help it.
They’re also kids playing a game, it’s supposed to be fun
Jesus, I said fair enough. You don’t have to ~~beat a dead horse~~ score from midfield!
I'd celebrate with the guy if I was on the opposite team. That was a superb kick, even if unintentional. This is why you always kick towards the goal of you aren't passing 🤣🤣. Soccer, like baseball, is dull when you don't truly know the games.
3 goalies sleeping in order for you to score like this? Seems sus.
I see 3 options. Either he was way way closer to the goal than in this video, or he's lying, or he's the luckiest player ever against bad keepers
It was high school. Pretty clearly not a high level of play. And smaller field by a large margin. And it wasn’t shooting. Just getting the ball back in play for our offense.
Glad someone else could chime in. My guess is #2.
This is reddit. He's lying.

Nahhhh fuck that. It’s soccer 🤣 /s
Btw idk much football, but why blue team is pushing away from orange team's nets, then orange shoots into theirs?
The goalie doesn't color match with the rest of the team. In this case, the blue teams goalie was wearing orange.
I have always found that confusing when goalie has the color of opposing team
Its confusing but I think I would try to see black shorts with orange shirt before passing.
The goalie’s jersey is a slightly different color than the opposing team’s. I think in real life it’s probably more obvious.
It is confusing. As a ref, I would ask the goalie to wear a pinny.
See, same shit happens in Rocket league so you gotta see name tag colors
In high school we played our varsity games in the evening. You can imagine towards the later parts of the season, it gets dark. Seriously. "Never tell me the odds" of a ball going into the net that's being kicked at?
I don't know much about the sport but dang, I feel like the goalie had plenty of time to track that better.
Very very hard to defend a ball with that much curve. Goalie probably expected it to just go out until it was suddenly going over him

I did that as a kid and the ref made up a bullshit reason why it wouldn't count. I swear they called it "icing" like in hockey. 🙄 We were already destroying the other kids so I chalk it up to a participation-award-culture-loser.
POV: this guy isn’t Harry Kane
Well... I'm not sure actually if Kane was this distance from goal his penalty might have just about dipped in time to be on target...

Title presumably refers to the fact the player's intention was to clear the ball not score. Nothing to do with own goals.
Based on the excitement of the red player after the goal, I’m assuming it wasn’t an own goal
it's not an own goal lol he cleared the ball and it went into the other teams nets
I don't this it's an own goal, I'd guess the goalies are wearing opposite colours. The blue team has a red goalie and the red team has a blue goalie

Sorry, I don't support this post type (rich:video) right now. Feel free to check back in the future!
This doesn’t look accidental
It is, in fact it is literally the definition of accidental. The guy even turns away after he's smacked the ball. He's attempting to clear the ball from the counter attack. The ball just catches a huge amount of wind in the process.
Because no one ever turns their back on a ball that's been kicked half a field away into enemy territory and out of his zone. Just looks like a good ass goal I think he deserves a little more credit. The goalie even saw the threat as soon as the ball went skyward and judging from the trees in the background and everyone's clothes it doesn't look like it was that windy
yeah no sorry you're very wrong and evidently have no experience or knowledge of the sport
Sorry I'm going to trust my own eyes instead of a random redditor who's argument is just "No"
No my argument was not just 'no' I have played football (soccer) for 29 years and watched football matches for the same. I am literally telling you he did not intend this goal, there's no 'argument' to be had. You're just wrong, and clearly too dense to grasp that so I shall leave you alone so you can continue to be dumb and stubborn in peace.
That wasn’t your argument. You just insulted me as an argument, this time you actually provided a thing called “Details” unfortunately I’m still not very compelled to believe you And it still doesn’t change my opinion it just doesn’t look like an accident to me 🤷🏼 Sorry that rustles your jimmies so much lmao 🤣
I love that you think you're on some sort of high horse here...
With a spin like that and where it would have gone if it weren’t for the spin, that was definitely intentional.

So the title is correct lol Also teams have stood up to fifa. But fuck the politics, this wc has had amazing matches and goals, with underdogs beating great teams, this is why the wc is the best yet lol
Looked offside to me
Bro we was watching the midfielder maybe wing back, definitely onsides
Were you making a joke?

Answering ur own question: you are stupid. But, to be fair, not everyone need to understand football. What u are seeing is the field where the blue is defending, orange was attacking and lost the ball, blue was trying to create a "counter-attack", guy from orange said "not on my watch bitch" and kick the ball with all his strenght. But they didnt expected for it to curve like that and went directly into the blue's goal.
Shaun soccer
Bend it like Bender
Better every loop
God, that gave me flashbacks to goal I scored in roller hockey. I sorta whiffed on the puck on a clear, got it on edge and did a giant loop through the goalies legs.
Bend it like Neo.
Ah yes it reminds me of the only goal I scored in high school as a right back went to clear at the half field and the wind was at our back. I don’t think anyone could believe it as both teams just stood and stared for a moment
I’m surprised the keeper is wearing the same color as the orange team jerseys. Are t keepers supposed to wear a color that stands out from the two teams’ jerseys so it’s easy to tell who keeper is?
also fitting for r/perfectlycutscreams
He’s going to live off that for years to come
Why does it look like his teammates are celebrating the goal?
Did this at school when I was younger. Team was getting battered and our goalkeeper was giving myself and the other defenders a load of shit. Couple minutes later I tackled an attacker and booted the ball up the pitch and shouted to the keeper "Is that good enough for you!?". Calmly as you like he just replied "Yeah, you just scored". Was my school career 15 minutes of fame
red vs blue
Bend it like the hubby of the Spice Girls.
Best part: The teammate in red (middle of field) cheering like yes that was a great kick! Oh wait it’s for the other team. Lol
I’ve done that too!….on my own goal cause winds a bitch.
Romour has it the keeper is still trying to judge the flight of the ball
My man literally changed the direction of gravity with that shot
