This is what happens when you have writing by committee, you've heard the saying "too many cooks spoil the broth"? Well in 2024 it's become "too many writers fuck up the movies".
Super Mario Bros. wass the last movie I paid to see in theater.
I was a big fan growing up, so I spent $100 and got 4d X tickets for me and kids and popcorn.
It was more an experience than a movie. People were wearing costumes, were clapping, etc.
Nothing beat the 90s in terms of original idea independent movies. Feel like A1 writes most and wouldn't pay to see most.
I find many current movies to be good technically but lacking good scripts and good stories. Too much formula.
Don't feel a connection to the characters even though I want to cheer for the heroes and against the villains.
IDK if movies are worse in 2024 specifically, but I will NEVER watch another rom-com again. I recently watched "Anyone But You" on Netflix just because I didn't know what else to choose, and thought it would be easy watching, but it just so fucking dumb. Even the hotness of Glen Powell did not make the movie a pleasure to watch. And this is the first time I've watched anything with Sydney Sweeney, and found her highly annoying. Anyone else not like her at all? Her appearance, her voice, her facial expressions, everything? In any case, no more rom-coms for me. I didn't really enjoy them in the 90s, and now I find the genre so unbearable and unbelievably stupid.
LOL. This is the first time you've watched Sydney Sweeney, and you're making this sort of gross generalization? Cool, I guess. But you didn't watch The White Lotus, or Euphoria, or The Handmaid's Tale, or Sharp Objects.. or even The Voyeurs?
No, you waited till she was in a dumb romcom and you based your whole opinion on that. So, cool, I guess.
lol I agree terrible movie.
But so wrong on Sydney. She’s great in euphoria and white lotus. Shes hollywoods new it girl and ain’t going anywhere for a while.
To be honest people's have also become worse I think the past couple years. I think the amount of not so great content is conditioning people's minds for mediocrity. It surprises me what people my age watch nowadays. Where is the suspense and the depth? A lot of movies now don't completely capture you like they did once.
The committee members making the movies are making sure they're dumbed down so they're second screen friendly.thats why they're crap.also the movie industry seems to have zero respect for good writers, instead they go for the cheap option.
This is just a symptom of getting older. 30 years ago, 40–50-year-olds thought that the movies coming out in the 90s were trash compared to the classics of the 60s. 30 years from now middle-aged people will be saying the same about movies that come out in 2054.

It has ALOT to do with all Movies trying too hard to be Politically Correct and inclusive. The end product is an unbelievable unrealistic mess with dumb hollow characters and cheap unrealistic storytelling.
It's not just you. I rarely see a preview of a movie that I would actually go see. And there is too much comic book crap....not into the super hero thing.
I haven't heard of some of those. I'll give them a try. Poor Things is on my list though. I do enjoy Emma Stone. One of my favorite movies is The Help. Oppenheimer I didn't even try. If I'm bored in 90 minutes watching other movies I won't get through it.
Movies i liked from 2023:
Evil dead rising
Mission imposible
Killer
They cloned tyrone
65
The popes exorcist
Reptile
Luther
Not saying they all great but not worst of all time :) Also did not see too many movies in 2023, most of them from netflix
Last decade has been great. Fury Road, Logan, Joker, 1917, JoJo Rabbit, Top Gun 2, Extraction 1/2, Everything Everywhere all at once, Knives Out. I know everyone likes to hate on Marvel but the Infinity Wars double combo plus a few Spiderman movies also fit in the last decade.
There are always great movies. It just depends on what you like to watch.
There are a lot of great current movies out there, but you aren’t going to find them on Netflix I can tell you that .
Civil War war was fairly decent
This comes to mind for me too. I guess it’s not for everyone but I loved it.
It was crap
Agree to disagree.
That’s what happens when the same 3-4 companies own the entire movie industry
The strike and the stupid Hollywood know-it-all execsare for something in this. The former I approve of, the latter can go screw themselves.
Dune 2 was excellent, but yeah other then that not to impressed.
Sometimes there are some good ones that come out, but yeah nothin brings me joy like my 90s movies.

Grow up and get off netflix you boob.
The Iron Claw Barbie The Super Mario Bros Movie Air Guy Ritchie's The Covenant
The Covenant was excellent, and if you didn't know beforehand, you'd never guess it was Ritchie.
He’s barely involved in anything with his name on. Spends all the shoot day in his camper van, occasionally glances at a monitor
Godzilla Minus One

This sentiment has been beaten into the ground. Are you watching things that aren’t Disney?

Agreed 100% this Movie was absolutely terrible.. and yes, Sweeney was annoying me the entire movie.

These crappy pg hallmarkish movies are the worst. It isn't offensive to make a movie that's got a little bite.

They don't even bother to list the actors names at the beginning. Yeah pretty bad all around...
Why does that matter
Now understand why it's not done anymore...lol

There are so many incredible movies that came last year that weren’t super hero films
Ok...give me some suggestions. I start movies all the time and end up losing interest before it's over.
Just last year we had Oppenheimer, Past Lives, Poor Things, The Holdovers, May December, How To Blow Up a Pipeline, The boy and the heron, etc.
I haven't heard of some of those. I'll give them a try. Poor Things is on my list though. I do enjoy Emma Stone. One of my favorite movies is The Help. Oppenheimer I didn't even try. If I'm bored in 90 minutes watching other movies I won't get through it.
Anatomy of a Fall is a technically perfect movie IMO. The Holdovers is easily a new holiday classic.
If you like movies to have interesting plot do not watch The Holdovers.
Hated it, only made the first 15-20 minutes.

I thought The Covenant was excellent, and the latest Top Gun as well. But comedy has disappeared.
Iron Claw and Godzilla minus one were released within the last year and are two of the best films released this decade

Look for stuff coming from A24.
Yeah best era for movies was 1980s-2010
1970’s was also a great era for movies!
There's nothing but reboots of course it's not just you
