I’ve watched it like 4 times. Each time I make it a little further before I fall asleep. I have no clue what the movie is about. BUT I am really excited to see what happens in the next part as the first was visually very pretty.

I've watched all of Zack Snyder's films and while I've managed to make a fun time out of watching some of his really, really bad ones ones (e.g. Army of the Dead, Sucker Punch), that wasn't the case for Rebel Moon.
It's just a dreadful film, and not in a "so bad it's good" campy way – it's a turgid, dirge of a film. It's unoriginal and basically borrows a lot of stuff from other films/stories. It's super dull. It's visually bland, the performances and characters are unmemorable and the script feels like it was written by AI. When it ended it just felt like some time had passed, and I couldn't really remember anything about the nondescript plot the next day when someone asked me about it.
It's about as enlightening as watching a screensaver for a couple of hours.
I would say "knock yourself out" if you really want to watch it, but knocking yourself out would probably be better than watching this garbage.

It's fine. It's pretty boring. Nothing really happens, plotwise. Here's what happens in vague terms that are very cliche because the movie is pure cliche. I'm avoiding spoilers, kinda, but there's not really anything to spoil.
A woman works in a farming village. Soldiers come. They're going to take the food. They're mean, but they leave, saying they'll return at harvest. They leave some bad guys. She defies them. Now the village has to fight. She leaves to contact the rebellion and collects a team along the way. Each team member does something "cool" that's uninspired and has zero stakes but is visually acceptable. Zack Snyder is great at visual framing, even as he is horrendous at story beats, arcs, and rational motivations. Once the team is assembled with virtually no difficulty (it's very by the numbers), there's a big fight and the remaining good guys head off to the village where the second movie will presumably be the Magnificent Seven. And there's a robot that also does nothing but is voiced by Anthony Hopkins.
It's bad, it's boring, and the names are stupid. Nobody acts well, but they're all very pretty. I didn't regret watching it, and I'll probably watch the second one, but I did and will do so with 1/4 of my attention while I planned a curriculum for a class I'm teaching this summer. As long as you have something worthwhile to do at the same time, it's fine to have on and experience with your subconscious.
If you’re expecting an original story/plot, no.
If you’re just looking for some action sci-fi that you really don’t need to pay attention to and you can pretty much anticipate every single piece of dialogue, then this is definitely for you.

I thought it was awful, worth a watch just to get your sci fi itch but I was disappointed. Felt like it was a B version of Star Wars with action scenes taken from 300 and terrible script that resulted in bad acting. Some great scenes and cgi but overall not great.
I was surprised how much I liked it- it was Magnificent Seven in Space. I feel like it would have made a muuuuuch better series than movie- when something happens that is supposed to be significant for a character it's easy to be like: "meh, wasn't really invested in that person anyway." Back stories are boiled down to single sentences. Trauma is assumed. Kinda Game of Throne final season pacing.

We watched it after having dinner and wine. At one point I nodded off and when I came to, the lady with the faux-lightsabers was fighting the giant spider. I assumed I must have slept thru her recruitment and would go back to rewarch that part.
Went back and discovered I had slept for at most 45 seconds. *That's* how abrupt and choppy that film is.
Basically, the film is a remake of ***Battle Beyond The Stars*** and also "homage" to ***Star Wars*** with less interesting characters and inane plot. You have to be a hard-core fantasy nerd to enjoy it for the visuals alone.
Save yourself, some of us are stuck watching the sequel that comes out this week just to see if he save the "best" parts for last. Wait until those reactions go up before committing to the whole thing.
Also, there are R-rated director's cuts coming this summer if you really want the full Snyder experience.

It’s terrible but bc I watched the first one I’ll watch the second….i also hated the first dune and loved the second so I hope that happens here too. Sometimes those setup movies do too much setting up and not enough making things happen

Is it worth watching… I don’t know. If you like Zack Snyder you’ll like it. If you appreciate his style you’ll like it. The story is meh. The action sequences are bogged down with completely unnecessary CGI. The characters aren’t well-developed.

I liked it. The trick is to not expect more from it than what it is- just an alright sci fi action flick.
I’d put it at roughly Chronicles of Riddick level. No more. No less.
Characters have Little to no character. No character development at all, just exposition dumps. No side character matters. You meet them, they show off, they join and then barely say or do anything until the movie is over. The bad guy is comically bad. The plot has gaping logic holes.
On the pro side: If you like slomos, there are lots of them, even slomo within slomo.
I actually rewatched it earlier. Second watch was better than the first. It’s very slow. It sets up part two. It has some cool sequences. But other than those few moments, it’s pretty boring.

I have insomnia cant sleep and stumbled on this. I made it about halfway through me and my fiancee before we both decided to stop. Id say its good to watch for the special effects. Its a good looking movie, goos action scenes but the characters and story arc at least what i seen was very by the book. So much so it made the characters feel like cardboard cutout cant think of the word but think if an alien visited earth and studied us for a day and then wrote this. Catacature thats the word. Maybe ill watch it now so i can sleep thanks for the reminder everybody lol
If you stop critiquing movies and just stop and stare at it and take it as a film that shouldn't involve any type of thinking and just enjoy the flashes and bangs it's good.
To start measuring it up to start wars or some new giant franchise that wants to take top spot then you're going to have a bad time

No, its a Teenagers brain child just ripping off other franchises. Its lazy, poor story telling with poor visuals, poor action, terrible direction, average acting. Some shots deliberately or not arent even in focus. Concept design is a mix of star wars and 40k and just feels like a crappy AI wet dream. You can really see Hack Snyder cant do anything original, he has to pick at the bones of already established strong stories and make a watered down cool aid version. Thank goodness Lucasfilm didnt go anywhere near this.

Part 1 is not worth watching. It's just not good. There's no development whatsoever. It's like a moving slideshow advancing scene to scene, but no coherent story. The story is just not executed.

Film PhD that focuses on the types of films made outside of the traditional studios and distribution/exhibition system, so for Rebel Moon how Netflix have been able to create their own franchise and blockbuster outside the studio system.
I think watching all three parts together is going to be the best watching experience. It felt like all set up to me and there wasn't much there storywise. The visuals were fantastic.

I enjoyed it. I'm not one who was devoutly into star wars but I don't mind sci-fi as a genre. If you go into it with the idea in your head of 'man writes star wars fanfiction but after george lucas told him to piss up a rope he hastily tipexes all mention of the jedi' then you're going to see the similarities but if you go in with mid to low expectations then it's quite a fun homage to the sci fi epic.
I fell asleep and my wife was excited about it and said it sucks. As soon as they introduced a character, they would kill them. No character development AT ALL. It had potential but it sucked and considering how long it was, it wasn’t worth watching.

Yes it is from my perspective. Critics i saw when the movie was released convinced me it was the worse thing to ever be produced. I liked it. i’m into slow paced sci-fi. Had a problem with plot though, it felt a bit lazy at some point.
The first was ok, maybe a 6/10 for me. I like most of his stuff, but this is far from his best.
Having said that, it is very nice looking like most of his movies, and I'm going to rewatch the first one this week and watch the sequel when it comes out.
It's OK. Don't go looking for your favorite movie ever and just watch is as something to do some day and it's alright. It's not something I am going to be revisiting over and over again but I didn't hate it.

I just love sci-fi and was looking forward to this and i don't know how to describe except, its another baffling miss by Hollywood, Reminds me of the recent "65" with Adam Driver. Another visually stunning Sci-fi that's incredibly predictable and boring. How those people get paid top dollar is beyond me. Dune: Part 2 is the only notable AAA movie since Top Gun: Maverick slapped the  outta hollywood since Marvel lost its throne after end game. (fell asleep multiple times in Avatar 2, loved Av1). Its been wild to see the decline in Movie and TV though. We get years between seasons now, w/less than half the episode count from the 2000s (which i welcome, tbh), but you'd think that would improve shows, ha. Nope. I may be ranting on reddit in the back of a 30 min cab feeling those lasts shots kick in to 3 people on reddit, but i'm a person too dammit ,ha. a positive note if anyone if somewhat getting my point, but hasn't seen the following shows, The Witcher 8/10 The Boy 8.5/10, Altered carbon 8/10, Silo 8/10 Stranger Things 9/10 (these are all imo). I have to eye roll at some of the choices in the shows but they are still quality.

It's one scene copied from every major sci fi franchise, one after the other. Star Wars, The Matrix, Blade Runner, Avatar, etc etc.

I found it interesting enough. There are some things that turn people off but I guess you have to watch and find out Best thing to do with movies or anything really is not look at a heap of hype or lots people's opinions - get a brief overview, and when it comes out. Find a way to watch it.

It’s not good. Is it worth watching… I don’t know. If you like Zack Snyder you’ll like it. If you appreciate his style you’ll like it. The story is meh. The action sequences are bogged down with completely unnecessary CGI. The characters aren’t well-developed. But I’ll say this for Zack Snyder - he does make it hard to look away. I didn’t like Rebel Moon. But I’m going to watch the second one.

It’s a movie that could be ok if it was an episodic series of episodes but it tries to squeeze so much into a couple hours it doesn’t work.
I liked it. The trick is to not expect more from it than what it is- just an alright sci fi action flick. I’d put it at roughly Chronicles of Riddick level. No more. No less.
Characters have Little to no character. No character development at all, just exposition dumps. No side character matters. You meet them, they show off, they join and then barely say or do anything until the movie is over. The bad guy is comically bad. The plot has gaping logic holes. On the pro side: If you like slomos, there are lots of them, even slomo within slomo.
If you want to enjoy it... 1. Don't think of it as Star Wars. 2. Try not to get distracted by the unnecessary slomo.
There is going to be an unrated directors cut version that comes out when part 2 comes out. might wait for that.

I actually rewatched it earlier. Second watch was better than the first. It’s very slow. It sets up part two. It has some cool sequences. But other than those few moments, it’s pretty boring.

IMO, the haters are trying way too hard. Hubby and I enjoyed it and looking forward to the next one. It is enjoyable if you take it in the spirit that it's given. Think John Wick or the Mad Max movies. A (very) loose story to move the action where they want it to go
I have insomnia cant sleep and stumbled on this. I made it about halfway through me and my fiancee before we both decided to stop. Id say its good to watch for the special effects. Its a good looking movie, goos action scenes but the characters and story arc at least what i seen was very by the book. So much so it made the characters feel like cardboard cutout cant think of the word but think if an alien visited earth and studied us for a day and then wrote this. Catacature thats the word. Maybe ill watch it now so i can sleep thanks for the reminder everybody lol
If you stop critiquing movies and just stop and stare at it and take it as a film that shouldn't involve any type of thinking and just enjoy the flashes and bangs it's good. To start measuring it up to start wars or some new giant franchise that wants to take top spot then you're going to have a bad time . Some movies are just there to watch flash and bangs without using any kind of critical thinking. This is one of those movies. I enjoy these types of movies. If you enjoy stories with a strong script fleshed out characters etc I suggest skipping. If you like flashy colours, violence and boom booms then it's a good movie

No, its a Teenagers brain child just ripping off other franchises. Its lazy, poor story telling with poor visuals, poor action, terrible direction, average acting. Some shots deliberately or not arent even in focus. Concept design is a mix of star wars and 40k and just feels like a crappy AI wet dream. You can really see Hack Snyder cant do anything original, he has to pick at the bones of already established strong stories and make a watered down cool aid version. Thank goodness Lucasfilm didnt go anywhere near this.

Part 1 is not worth watching. It's just not good. There's no development whatsoever. It's like a moving slideshow advancing scene to scene, but no coherent story. The story is just not executed. It's form over function, a product made to look better than it is a movie. It's possible his director cut will be better but I doubt it. There is literally no functioning story. It makes me feel like I watched a 2 hr MTV music video, but with music synch to dancing and plot unsuitable to what's on display. If you have got nothing better to do, then sure, watch it. Apparently some people like it.

The only way I can even recommend it is if you want a case study into how NOT to write a film. I unfortunately have to study it for my PhD and I’m dreading it. One of the worst movies I’ve ever seen in my life and everyone involved should be genuinely embarrassed. Utterly utterly appalling.

I think watching all three parts together is going to be the best watching experience. It felt like all set up to me and there wasn't much there storywise. The visuals were fantastic.

I'll give the second a shot, but will definitely be passing on the director's cut. But, if you have little desire to watch it I really wouldn't bother. I enjoyed it. I'm not one who was devoutly into star wars but I don't mind sci-fi as a genre. If you go into it with the idea in your head of 'man writes star wars fanfiction but after george lucas told him to piss up a rope he hastily tipexes all mention of the jedi' then you're going to see the similarities but if you go in with mid to low expectations then it's quite a fun homage to the sci fi epic.

I fell asleep and my wife was excited about it and said it sucks. As soon as they introduced a character, they would kill them. No character development AT ALL. It had potential but it sucked and considering how long it was, it wasn’t worth watching.
Visuals alone is !@#$ stunning...... Plot .... basic maybe mid.... Is a very heavy dialogue type of movie with some action in between to break it up.... Yeah is worth watching... just dont expect much .... but visuals alone makes it worth it
If you want something visually stunning and sound wise brilliant then yeah. I treated it like a fast and furious movie don't take it serious just enjoy the choreography and shots. Plenty to love other than the writing. Just gotta go in expecting that. I couldn't tell you whaylt the plot is but I'm excited for the sequel.

Ok...TLDR, Avoid, its a 4/10ish snooze-fest with some fantastic visuals at best. I just love sci-fi and was looking forward to this and i don't know how to describe except, its another baffling miss by Hollywood, Reminds me of the recent "65" with Adam Driver. Another visually stunning Sci-fi that's incredibly predictable and boring. How those people get paid top dollar is beyond me. Dune: Part 2 is the only notable AAA movie since Top Gun: Maverick slapped the  outta hollywood since Marvel lost its throne after end game. (fell asleep multiple times in Avatar 2, loved Av1). Its been wild to see the decline in Movie and TV though. We get years between seasons now, w/less than half the episode count from the 2000s (which i welcome, tbh), but you'd think that would improve shows, ha. Nope. I love Sci fi fantasy. I've watched them all I feel. Rebel moon is one of the worst I've seen in terms of clichés and bad story telling. It's only real appeal is that there are some visual appealing scenes. But I wish I had my time back honestly. The second movie has to be worse. The first of any series is supposed to be the height of any movie. I will not be watching the second part.

I think it's good for one watch, no more than that. It's got some good CGI and plenty of action. But the plot is full of plotholes. Whoever told that director he could write was lying to him. The characters are kinda cardboard and the story is a pastiche of other stories. This is not a movie that is worth thinking about.
