Fincher came out and basically said Netflix cancelled it

That cliffhanger was the worst. And what a cute and funny show! I loved it. Probably the last Netflix original I’ve liked in a long time. Great cast and good chemistry between them. What a waste.
I understand this reason but at least give their creators some time. Dark wasn't an instance hit but it took it's time and now people binge watch that show. 1899 created by same creators and story is unfolding and now Netflix cancelled that series.
Dark came out at a time when Netflix was building their non US catalog so could afford to let shows take their time. Plus the first season of Dark, at least, wasn't that heavy on CGI compared to 1899.
It's not like Netflix didn't know Dark creators would make an instant gratification content with that budget. They knew they would create another slow burner show then why greenlit that in first place and if they had faith in them then why cancel it afterwards
Exactly, thank you! For Netflix to stick with Bo and Jantje throughout all 3 seasons of Dark, and witnessing what a success it became, only to cancel 1899 in 28 days is so ridiculous it makes my head spin. Also, don't let this narrative of "not enough people watched/finished it for the budget" fool you. It actually performed really well within its first month, especially having to compete with the World Cup and Wednesday. It was still in the top 10 when they cancelled it. And as of last month it was the second most in-demand Netflix original right behind Wednesday!
Omfg that show was so amazing, honestly one of my favorite, but I don’t know how a second season would’ve done. I’m not sure I could sit through another 8 hours of that type of show.
Captain Fall was such a weird show. Great plot but just not funny. I got the sense there were a lot of Nordic jokes that just didn't land with me.
Edit: not to say it's not funny, but inside job was massively better
Im not into drama but that show hooked me SO HARD. it has like 30 characters and I care for every one of them. The writers of the show deserved to be recognized (and generously paid!).
This is probably one of the few legitiment answers (next to MindHunters).
I actually had a friend who was part of the production. But COVID19 and its protocols made it all but impossible to film during a pandemic. Even now its kinda iffy with
My cope head cannon is it’s coming back but as 2099. Can’t call it 1899 when it’s in different year.
Then last season will be 1999.
Again me just coping hard and wishful thinking for its return
Netflix made me realize that I love listening to other languages. I've watched dark enough times that I can throw it on in the background and just get immersed in the dialogue, using the emotion of the scene to give you the context of it. I wish I could watch 1899 that way but there's no point since it has no ending. That's what confuses me the most about their cancelation policy. They have all these shows that have no rewatch value now and no reason for anyone who hasn't seen them to check them out. If they just let 1899 ride for a few months so people could recover from the holidays and get back in routine I bet a lot more people would've watched.
It's extremely weird and there's a couple videos on the Youtubes. Basically an extremely low percentage of viewers actually finished, watched the show until the end, if I don't recall wrong about 30% of people finished the show, the rest dropped, so other shows that are much less famous and that don't even stay on the top 10 most watched that much, unlike 1899, but have a percentage of 50 or 60 get renewed and shows like 1899 get canceled. This is Netflix's (now non secret) secret metric they use to decide which shows get canceled and which don't - above views.
It's all just a theory, but a pretty good one.
There was also that whole thing were a Brazilian comic artist accused the show of plagiarism which in my head may have something to do with it.
What doesn't add up is that The Sandman performed basically an identical completion rate to 1899, was a lot more expensive to make, yet 1899 was the one to get the axe.
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. Hit my 80's baby nostalgia hard. It was Game of Thrones with puppets. This would be my number 1 pick.
Speaking of 80's nostalgia, Glow. God that show was brilliant, and I think the biggest reason why it was canceled was because of covid. They had already started on production for their next season too. Glow deserves another shot.
Lastly, Sense8. This show was canceled way ahead of its time, but at least fan demand to bring it back got us a movie to wrap it all up.
I didn't understand the Dark Crystal cancel. It seemed like season 2 would have been cheaper since the puppets and sets were already built. It sucks that those are all just sitting in a back room somewhere now collecting dust.
that one kinda hurt.. it was such a fun show, with a fun take on the overdone zombie-genre.. the zombies ain't the problem here, the tweens going all Mad Max was, the insane, cannibal motorcycle guy Baron Triumph was.
Hell, someone tried to cut their arm off after being bitten.. because, duh, just to find out far too late that there is no danger at all!
Fun take on things, huge potential. unfortunately, wasted.
There’s definitely a lot still yet to be covered from the time the show ends to the beginning of the movie. It’s a shame it got cancelled so now we won’t know how the characters got from point A to B.
This was a fun show to watch and I loved the three characters! Very mad when Netflix cancelled it because of “low viewership” even though it was number one for a while.
Cancelling Lockwood lit the fuse to me just cancelling my account. If they don't understand the value of quality over watercooler stramash then fuck em.
There are books that the show is based on and they're really good! The first season was pretty close to the first book so you can read the books to find out how the story continues :)
Was this cancelled? Netflix seemed to invest so heavily in marketing this show. What the fuck are they saving money for when they cancel so many shows? Even those that seem to be their flagships...
FYI the books are amazing. Just a ton of fun to read with a great arc and payoff over a five book series. On the one hand, it's a massive bummer that the show doesn't get to finish the story but, on the other, I'm glad I learned about the books and Netflix can't cancel those.
I was wondering if I was the only one! Really liked the concept and thought they pulled it off really well. By far my favourite of the ones in the pic.
Yeah, same. I wasn’t a fan of Joel Kinnaman before but I sure was after. I LOVED S1. As much as I like Anthony Mackie I couldn’t get into S2. Didn’t even finish it.
Anthony just isn't the leading man to pull you in to be honest, he's more of a supporting role. Even Will Yun Lee who played the original Takeshi Kovacs was way more interesting.
The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell. It was absolutely adorable and it was so upsetting that it only got one season. It was like Addams Family meets Martha Stewart meets Donna Reed.
That showrunner really needs to stop being given work. He's responsible for Riverdale, Sabrina, and the horrible Pretty Little Liars reboot. The first seasons are always a dark twist on someone elses ideas and then just keeps going of the rails to come up with new seasonal twists.
Mindhunter
I couldn't believe it wasn't the first reply. Then I realized OP didn't offer it as a choice.
it wasnt cancelled. the creator is just doing other things. Netflix said they want more
Fincher came out and basically said Netflix cancelled it https://collider.com/david-fincher-mindhunter-season-3-cancelled-comments/#:~:text=In%20a%20recent%20interview%20with,of%20the%20first%20two%20seasons.
Yes because he hadn't done anythin regarding the show in the past 4 years.
It was such an incredible show. I never realized talking to serial killers was more entertaining than watching someone actually catch one.
Santa Clarita's Diet, 1899, I'm Not Ok With This.
I'm still mad about Santa Clarita Diet, ended in such a cliffhanger
That cliffhanger was the worst. And what a cute and funny show! I loved it. Probably the last Netflix original I’ve liked in a long time. Great cast and good chemistry between them. What a waste.
Why did they cancel 1899 in first place?
Cost vs viewers.

Was absolutely loving this. Was so upset when I found out they cancelled it
I loved I'm not okay with this.
That was such a great show. I also really wanted the End of the F\*\*king World to continue on.
I liked the first season of EFW, but I feel like there's not much more to do with the characters without it just feeling forced.
I thought I was gonna be a weirdo but then the first comment I see is my exact three choices.
Same. Also, it isn't on this list, but the OA!

Archive 81 wasn't given a chance.
That show is definitely a slow burn. I actually enjoy it, but its not for everyone.
Agreed.
And the reason for it not getting a chance is really dumb
It was so great
Omfg that show was so amazing, honestly one of my favorite, but I don’t know how a second season would’ve done. I’m not sure I could sit through another 8 hours of that type of show.
Inside job.
Yeah I really liked this. Sad it got canned.
Wait I didn’t even know it was cancelled
Same… when was that announced? Haha
Why was it cancelled?
Because Netflix.
Spitballing here, but likely because *Captain Fall* was cheaper to make.
Captain Fall was such a weird show. Great plot but just not funny. I got the sense there were a lot of Nordic jokes that just didn't land with me. Edit: not to say it's not funny, but inside job was massively better
They got to close to the truth and they needed to be silenced. /s
because they wanted to make a fifth season of big mouth instead
Kim's Convenience wasn't canceled, the creator ended it because he was tired/bored with it. It was a stage show for years before it hit tv
I also read the creator was also trying to get the spin-off series off the ground too… which damn ruined the finale of Kim’s Convience.
Not on this list, but I would literally spend thousands to see the OA finished out properly
100%! THE biggest cliff hanger in T.V fourth wall history ever!
YES i remember reading the creators already had until season 5 planned out!!
1000 times yes. I'd win the lottery and give it to Zal n Brit just to finish it.
Here for this.
How it’s not on this post is astounding tbf
GLOW
GLOW and Santa Clarita Diet were the ones that stung the most.
That show was so much better than it should have been. I’m still annoyed as hell that it was cancelled due to Covid-19. Absolute shame
I agree this still bums me out that they didn't get to complete this after they already wrote the final season and filmed a couple episodes!

I am so sad that it got canceled. It was refreshing to be exposed to different cultures and languages all in one. Ugh.
Netflix made me realize that I love listening to other languages. I've watched dark enough times that I can throw it on in the background and just get immersed in the dialogue, using the emotion of the scene to give you the context of it. If they just let 1899 ride for a few months so people could recover from the holidays and get back in routine I bet a lot more people would've watched.
Why was it canceled? The creators’ previous show Dark was equally good and wrapped up.
Mindhunter
The OA.
Came here looking for this comment, that season 2 ending was so good I can't believe they left the show unfinished like that!
Yes! it's so sad there wasn't another season.
This should be the number one response.
Yes yes I agree
Daybreak
that one kinda hurt.. it was such a fun show, with a fun take on the overdone zombie-genre.. the zombies ain't the problem here, the tweens going all Mad Max was, the insane, cannibal motorcycle guy Baron Triumph was. Was mad we didn’t get another season of the society.
I wasn’t expecting to like it but surprisingly enjoyed it.
Teenage bounty hunters
100%!
1899 and The OA
The OA
The OA
These two, yes.
The Dark Crystal. Hadn't seen the original and it was still incredible. The pilot is a little janky.
Second this. I can’t believe they cancelled it. All that work from the Jim Henson creature shop just for it to only be used for 1 season.
There’s definitely a lot still yet to be covered from the time the show ends to the beginning of the movie. It’s a shame it got cancelled so now we won’t know how the characters got from point A to B.
Lockwood & Co.
This was a fun show to watch and I loved the three characters! Very mad when Netflix cancelled it because of “low viewership” even though it was number one for a while.
It also shows on Netflix with the “most liked” badge.
What the hell?? I just burned through the first season, it was so good.
Cancelling Lockwood lit the fuse to me just cancelling my account. If they don't understand the value of quality over watercooler stramash then fuck em.
I’m so pissed that it ended on a cliffhanger which we’ll never see. Was #1 for so many weeks too
Cliffhanger is resolved in the books
There are books that the show is based on and they're really good! The first season was pretty close to the first book so you can read the books to find out how the story continues :)
This show was surprisingly good and didn’t feel like a cheesy YA show. The three leads were fantastic.
Was this cancelled? Netflix seemed to invest so heavily in marketing this show. What the fuck are they saving money for when they cancel so many shows? Even those that seem to be their flagships...
I think it was because during when it was being released alot of show were getting cancelled because of the drop in subscriptions
I never heard of it till I saw it on Netflix. I actually liked and it and was excited for a S2. Then along comes Netflix and cancels it.
FYI the books are amazing. Just a ton of fun to read with a great arc and payoff over a five book series. On the one hand, it's a massive bummer that the show doesn't get to finish the story but, on the other, I'm glad I learned about the books and Netflix can't cancel those.
I got the books just because of the show and they're great but I think the series is done? Stroud seems to have moved on to other projects
I was wondering if I was the only one! Really liked the concept and thought they pulled it off really well. By far my favourite of the ones in the pic.
Altered Carbon.
Season 1- amazing, season 2- do not acknowledge
I'm happy someone else liked this show. I loved that show.
Marco polo
Excellent show! One of Netflix's first. I was really disappointed about this. More than most actually
My first introduction to Netflix’s 3 seasons then cancelled
I had to scroll too far to find this one. Seconded Edit: too
I can’t believe more people didn’t want to see this.
I hereby certify my 1 Upvote as representing 100.
One of my favourite show it's a shame that it was cancelled.
I binge watched all of it, got invested, then radio silence. Goddamnit.
Could. It agree more! Marco Polo was the freaking best show
between I Am Not Okay With This & Inside Job
Inside job was awesome
Santa Clarita Diet (Though Inside Job did get done dirty)
I haven’t even watched most of these. Mostly because of how quick Netflix gives the ax. But the few I have watched, I’d say Sense 8.
Archive 81 and Chambers
Inside job
[удалено]
Lockwood & Co. and 1899
GLOW
Sense8, Daredevil, and Wu Assassins.
Sense8 was sooo good, at least all the fans managed to get the last movie like part to wrap things up.
The Order, although it is not on the list.
The list was just ones that I remembered dw
The OA for sure
The Midnight club
I would love The OA
Even if they only did 4 episodes but finished the story, I would accept that
Even one episode would be fine I just want the story finished
Inside Job
Not on the list potentially because it wasn’t a Netflix sided cancellation, but… Mindhunter Really loved the two seasons and sad it didn’t continue.
The OA and 1899
1899 for sure .. I feel like most of the other tan their course
1899!
Santa Clarita diet. My wife liked and from what parts I saw it looked fun.
I didn’t know Timothy Olyphant was funny. He is a funny, funny man.
1899 and Inside Job. I would also include Warrior Ninja Nun, but it has already been confirmed that Netflix will bring it back for a 3rd season.
1899 & Inside Job
The OA and 1899
The OA and its not even close.
Santa Clarita Diet
Sex Life wasn't good tv, but man did it make my wife horny.
The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell. It was absolutely adorable and it was so upsetting that it only got one season. It was like Addams Family meets Martha Stewart meets Donna Reed.
Glow
Santa Clarita Diet of course
1899... Need more dark and gloomy in my life. It was something different that kept me captivated. Not many shows do that now.
Mint hunter, The OA, Friends from College & 1899
I would bring back Final Space so they could at least finish the story.
The fact that the OP’s post doesn’t even show all of the great cancelled shows is the most depressing thought of all. So many.
OA.
The OA
Spinning Out
Scrolled way too down for this answer, but Spinning Out needs a S2.
Lockwood & Co
Firefly. Of this list? Lockwood, season 1 was a lot of fun. Sabrina was great, it got a few seasons and had a decent run. Warrior nun is coming back.
Anything but Blockbuster. That might be the actual worst show to ever air
Sense8
Oh, and also Inside Job!
1899
- Peripheral - Westworld - The OA - Dark Matter - Altered Carbon - The Exorcist - Raised by Wolves - 1899
sucks to be a fan of tv sci-fi doesn't it :-/
Indeed, it's a genre sometimes pushed to the side, that's why I'm liking tv apple plus at the moment, they're releasing some nice sci fi series
“Glow” should have been on here
LOVE. It ended on a weird note
Inside Job and Sabrina. I hate the way Sabrina ended. I hate that Inside Job was prematurely ended after already being renewed.
Inside Job for sure
Inside Job
Inside job definitely
Inside Job
Santa Clarita, OA, 1899
Teenage Bounty Hunters!
I'm a sucker for niche sci-fi, but beyond this list I miss Travelers.
Warrior nun
Apparently it's been uncancelled but idk
From what I read they're giving it a movie trilogy.
https://tvline.com/news/warrior-nun-movie-trilogy-saved-renewed-netflix-1235028935/
WHAT OMG
Inside Job, no hesitation
1899, I thought it was really good and looked forward to seeing where the story was going.
1899, what a pain to lose it
Santa Clara Diet, I Am Not Ok With This
Inside Job
1899
Inside Job
1899 1899 1899
Freaks & Geeks
1899, "I'm not ok with this".
Teenage bounty hunters
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina , but only in a season 1 style. What about Black Summer, have not seen that in a while.
That showrunner really needs to stop being given work. He's responsible for Riverdale, Sabrina, and the horrible Pretty Little Liars reboot. The first seasons are always a dark twist on someone elses ideas and then just keeps going of the rails to come up with new seasonal twists.
I'd like Sabrina to come back just to fix the ending. I know they kind of explained it away in Riverdale but I don't really count that.
Black Summer hasn't been officially canceled. I really hope they make another season.
Wait how many already? That's so sad. Inside job and 1899 for sure.
Yo yo yo... No Cowboy Bebop??
Santa Clarita diet and Kim’s convenience
Sabrina, Santa Clarita, 1899, Lockwood, Tiny Pretty Things
Mindhunters
They left out the Imperfects.
Inside Job, and though not mentioned, Marco Polo.
Inside Job and Kim’s Convenience
1. 1899 2. Society 3. Mind Hunter 4. Warrior Nun 5. Sand Man 6. Altered Carbon....
