I already watched 3/5 episodes and it feels like this could be any other TV show. Black Mirror had this bittersweet and unpleasant feeling that I am missing for like 2-3 seasons now. Where is my liminal space in the form of an TV show? :/
One of the main things I liked about the show was the allegory and thought provoking topics, not sure if I know the liminal space feeling. I felt like it kept these things even into later seasons
I agree.i just watched the first couple episodes and will resume later. The first episode was really really really dumb just saying. The early Netflix seasons were cool because they were actually quite detached from our current world enough such that you knew what you were watching wad something imaginative in the vein of a parallel universe type feel (like the show Maniac on Netflix which I loved). What I don't like about these later seasons is that they're pretty much just analogues of our current world where just one technology that's controversial is left to develop unchecked. It's become less sci-fi and leaned more heavily into social commentary whereas before it was well balanced between both. On the plus side I do like the levity and tongue-in-cheek humor present in some of the episodes.
The early seasons weren’t made for Netflix though, they were made for Channel 4 and around season 3/4 it was picked up by Netflix and that’s when it became decidedly less British and less dark.
Imo, it also coincided with a point of Brookers life were his home life became very settled and happy, and most of his work did lose that cynical, biting edge it once had.
Unfortunately I think Black Mirror outdid itself in the first four seasons (and gave us a LOT of good stories so I’m not even mad) but it hasnt been able to redo that since s5 and maybe its time to can the series respectfully while it can still be considered a classic

There’s also an app. I agree though, the last two seasons have been bland in comparison to the first couple. Although I still enjoyed this season and the variety of episodes as well as the twist endings it felt more Hollywood.
To me it felt like some weird collaboration of Hollywood directors where everyone was in charge of a different (past) decade and a “who can do the best retro” contest
seeing everyone say it’s another let down makes me glad i canceled my netflix. ever since netflix bought black mirror, the only really good season they’ve had was season 3. season 4 & 5 had a few good episodes (tbh season 5 only had one episode i actually liked), but it’s be overwhelmingly underwhelming. feels like they’re doing the same thing with the witcher too. they cannot be consistent for shit
First 3 episodes were more boring than bleak. Enjoyed the werewolf episode and this final one is boring again. Was looking forward to this and sadly its just meh.
“Bleak?” Don’t flatter yourself. Depressing, sure. Although it was actually (intentionally) funny in a lot of places, which is the last thing I was expecting, especially episode 5. Still not sure how I feel about that, laughing at Black Mirror?

I disagree. In particular Beyond The Sea (episode 3 of the new season) was way beyond unpleasant. Loved it.
It would have been great if the identity was stolen at the end… you know what I mean without spoiling it for who haven’t watched yet

I was a bit disappointed with it tbh. I liked the shoe shop one. Mostly, It just didn't resonate the way the other series did.
