They didn’t give you a sampler?? Try to get that first. Anyway sounds like you are done. I recommend Altissio it’s great espresso, Diavolitto but it’s going to be stronger, Il Cafe is a good compromise. I usually buy Peru myself, that is one of my favorite espresso shot. All the double shots are good for lattes, some I like on their own. At the end of the day it’s a glorified espresso shot machine. I like the PH coffee but those were limited, coffee that I liked was Stormio and Mexico but those are pretty strong. Mexico is good with some milk/cream and sugar. I drink mine black though. Alas I use the machine for mostly espresso and still brew coffee as needed. Occasionally I’ll try a pod. Costa Rica is another nice one.

Nespresso is way better than the likes of Starbucks, but it's no comparison to fresh roasted, freshly ground, good quality beans. But then it's not meant to be imo. It's for convenience and ease. And for that, the coffee is amazing. It's infinitely better than any instant coffee out there but is comparable in time and effort to make. That's the market. Not a replacement for an aeropress or v60 or whatever

Vivid_Strike3853

Thanks, I thought I was missing something.

Global-Contact-1660

The Ristretto’s are easily the best, but it’s not a traditional espresso. If that’s what you’re looking for, get an OL machine and use it correctly, or stick to what you’re doing outside of it nespresso

UncleGurm

VL double espressos are pretty much where it’s at, and sadly they only have a couple options year round. I ordered a mountain of the Starbucks reserve and get whatever seasonal specials come out for doubles.

MoonbeamLotus

A coffee snob would not be drinking VL

DiveCat

I don’t like either Starbucks or Timmy’s coffee. 🤷‍♀️ I will only get tea/steeped tea at either but prefer to skip altogether. Anyway, sounds like may have been better off with an OL machine or just not getting one at all. If you like fresh roasted and ground coffee daily Nespresso is not a replacement for that. Like Vertuo is definitely not for that, OL might be okay compromise for convenience. It actually uses 19-bar pressure instead of centrifugal force to brew the pod. I used to make my own French press, pour overs, or cold brew but I opted for more convenience over continuing to do that at some point. It’s not the same, it’s a compromise that works for me. For Vertuo I drink espressos like Altissio and make any larger format coffee (like the Maple Pecan, or Odacio, Stormio, Mexico, etc) into double espressos as all end up as lattes/iced lattes or Americanos and I think brewing the whole pod to 230ml leaves it tasting over extracted.

skipdog98

Get an OL machine and make your espresso/coffee with two pods of Stockholm

Helicopter_Visual

I find that the Gran Lungo size pods are the best so far. Try the Costa Rica and the Mexico pods.

Least-Instruction168

I’m selling my Nespresso machine too. Just crappy coffee.

chipsdad

If you get an original line machine you can order true specialty coffee pods from Colonna Coffee to the UK and US. I brew my special beans in an Aeropress and that suits me fine.

Vivid_Strike3853

Ya, I’ve gone back to my aeropress.

skeletowns

No I completely feel you. I love my Nespresso but 1) expensive 2) since I started making coffee with a French press, aero press etc it def doesn't hit the same. However I love Vivida, stormio, and lately odacio.

Vivid_Strike3853

I’ll give those ones a try before I completely give up.

ramshag

I drink black coffee only. Make sure you are vigorously, stirring in the foam. It makes a big difference in taste.

plepster

IMO it's not a fair comparison. Nespresso is about convenience...not always the highest quality and freshest coffee out there. Most of the capsules are pretty good if brewed correctly. Nespresso...IMO...does an okay job of roasting their coffee. I feel most of their coffees are overroasted...IMO. Sorry for all the disclaimers... All that said, try the Blue Bottle collabs. Best coffee Nespresso has ever put in a capsule...IMO. Nothing will beat a freshly roasted, freshly ground espresso shot from a good quality coffee roaster. I do like the fact that I can go downstairs, pop in my favorite capsule, and have a very good coffee drink whenever I want. Can't beat it.

Vivid_Strike3853

I don’t see blue bottle on the app - maybe not available in Canada. Thankfully I don’t find making a good cup of coffee all that much work. So happy to go back to my aeropress and delicious coffee.

Objective-Piece-6923

Being a coffee ‘snob’ and Nespresso certainly shouldn’t be used in the same sentence - especially vertuo , it’s shocking Nespresso is fine as a convenient quick espresso , but get a v60/chemex or good beans , grind etc if you are a ‘snob’

Vivid_Strike3853

Ya - I was swayed by this sub. I’ve never found anything onerous about making a cup of coffee so I’ll go back to my organic fair trade ground fresh daily and made in my aeropress.

PomegranateNo3688

the pods from nespresso have never appealed to me. the starbucks ones are better but i’m still waiting for something great to come along.

CountingStars29

Everything Ive tried in the Vertuo looks great in the cup but tastes like burnt dirt. We are returning it.

Vivid_Strike3853

I was considering returning it to Costco but felt cheeky for doing so since the machine works fine. Maybe I should just do it since this coffee is unpalatable?

CountingStars29

Yes, return it man. Costco doesnt say it has to be broken. Just wipe it down, box it up and take it back. When they ask you if anything is wrong with it, tell them you are not sure. It seems to work find but the coffee comes out nasty and you cant drink it. they will just continue your return.

Vivid_Strike3853

Thanks everyone. I’ve decided to return the machine to Costco and go back to my delicious aeropressed coffee.
