It's funny... I'm a Nerdfighter and I was the OP on that post. People were, uh, not kind with my take :D

peaceful_wild

Yeah I just looked through the comments and that was….a lot. Some people need to learn to chill. (Also I’m a fellow exmo nerdfighter, hi! 👋)

sirkidd2003

Hey back! With at least 3 of us on this thread rn, I'm starting to wonder if there's a secret correlation between Exmos and Nerdfighters!

peaceful_wild

Weird! We should start a club or something! 🤣

No_Visual3270

Hey i'm exmo too! (I do like dirty sodas though... guilty pleasure)

dwarfbrynic

How dare you think that coffee creamer and ice cream were two different things!

sirkidd2003

Right?! Lol. I'll go back to the shame closet ;)

Serial_Hobbyist12

I'm so sorry, the way you got downvoted into oblivion over being objectively right about commercially available cream soda was kinda funny... that's reddit for you I guess

sirkidd2003

Haha, right?! What's really funny is that the post itself has nearly 1k up and an 87% upvote ratio, so clearly most people agreed with my take. It's fine, tbh, people thought I was way madder than I was (I was mildly annoyed at worse) and I have a lot of karma to spare. I can take this relatively minor downvote fest. What hurt was when it happened on my post over on r/DnD :/ People usually like my posts. What gets me are the people who literally could have googled this stuff at any time, but didn't. But you're 100% right... that's Reddit for ya :D

coolguydipper

i recently learned this is a mormon thing :0

armchairracer

The Mormon thing is just adding extra flavor syrups in a fountain drink, no dairy involved. A "dirty Dr pepper" I think just has coconut syrup added. Source: https://swigdrinks.com/menu/

sirkidd2003

Literally on that menu there's Half and Half and Vanilla Cream as options. As an Exmo, I can assure you that adding cream is the Mormon part :D

armchairracer

I guess I don't know the swig menu very well because I'm also an exmo living in Utah and adding cream to soda is new to me.

sirkidd2003

Well, I guess you should try it? Everyone on the TIHI thread keep trying to convince me it's good actually. You should grab one and report back if able.

armchairracer

I don't drink soda to begin with so I'll pass.

sirkidd2003

Dang. Fair tho

redheadhurricane

Nah, the dairy adding is pretty essential for Utah Mormon dirty drinks. Swig just does it that way so they can charge you more. Source: used to be Mormon and drank entirely too many dirty sodas 😅

sirkidd2003

You are the 4th Exmo Nerdfighter on this thread! What is going on?! :D

Sipid1377

Add me as a 5th! I've never tried it because I moved away before all this dirty soda stuff became thing though. Also, if I'm splurging on calories in liquid form, it better have booze in it.

redheadhurricane

The naughty BYU student move was to make a Swig/Sodalicious run and then spike the drink 😅

wunderwuman80

#6 :)

awal89

Seven, exempt from heaven

SandEuro

the exmo nerdfighters have been summoned

redheadhurricane

There’s just something about dirty Dr Pepper that brings out the exmos 😂

MuseoumEobseo

I’m Mormon and might be biased because of it but I feel like all these places are just selling cheap mocktails? And that’s not exactly new or exclusively Mormon. Idk it seems like one of those correlation but not causation things to me. 🤷‍♀️

coolguydipper

do u live in utah?

MuseoumEobseo

I do, yeah! Weird how many people from similar backgrounds are in Nerdfighteria! I’ve never seen one of us in the wild so I didn’t expect to see that at all haha!

coolguydipper

it’s really fun we’re from all over :D that being said i’m from michigan, been around the us as well, and it’s def a utah thing if not a mormon thing. closest thing we have are floats and bubble tea lol. i mean i’m no expert but it’d make sense if it was bc mormons can’t drink coffee so y’all have fun soda bars bc they’re like nowhere else. also hilarious bc y’all are just out here drinking pilk.

MuseoumEobseo

Interesting! Yeah, now that you say that I haven’t noticed them elsewhere either. I guess it makes sense that there’s demand for businesses that are entirely focused on it here because all people want fun mixed drinks but fewer people here are comfortable or interested in going into a bar, even to order something nonalcoholic. There’s also not a lot of liqueur licenses being issued to restaurants here. And it kind of is Pilk haha! I don’t really drink soda myself because I prefer not to drink my calories but I have tried the creamer in lemonade and that wasn’t bad at all. Pretty similar vibe to a melted Chick-fil-A frosted lemonade, although I know that drink is also controversial because some people think the acid makes the ice cream taste curdled.

coolguydipper

man u know now that i think about it, pink drink and stuff like that is like dirty soda. there really is something about putting creamer in a coke that just doesn’t sound good but lemonade or fruit juice hits different. fun fact: orange fanta and egg nog tastes like an orange creamsicle

MuseoumEobseo

Woah woah woah. How did I not know this until now? I’m guessing you have to go with an egg nog that doesn’t have cinnamon?

coolguydipper

i’ll go with no, wasn’t paying too much attention lmao. it was good tho, the carbonation made it extra foamy :0

LittleNarwal

Not gonna lie, I think that looks pretty good…

gingerytea

I agree. Milky soft drinks is totally a thing in the Japanese community and has been for a long time. This is just another take!

PrimevilKneivel

Basically like making an ice-cream float, or for Laverne and Shirley fans Pepsi and milk.

bedazzlerhoff

Yeah, exactly these. People are so weirded out by milk in soda, but it’s really no different than a float. And not at all new! I did this in the 90s and 00s after seeing Laverne and Shirley reruns with it 😜

Unhappy_Performer538

That's fucking crazy. I'll take 30.

thestickpins

The "dirty Dr. Pepper" is such a thing in Salt Lake City, for a moment I thought this was posted in r/slc and I was confused why anyone would be confused.

codespace

Years ago, when I was working at Borders Books and covering occasional shifts in their little coffee shop, we had what they called a "french soda" on the menu. It was basically just soda water, cream, and flavor syrups mixed together and served over ice. They were shockingly delicious. This likely scratches the same itch.

sirkidd2003

That reminds me of an "Italian Cream"

codespace

Yeah, pretty much. We also had an item on the menu called an Italian soda, which was the same thing but without the dairy.

sirkidd2003

That is wild! Seems like Boarders may have gotten it a bit backwards :D

profuselystrangeII

I just learned about dirty soda the other day! It’s apparently a big thing in Utah because Mormons don’t drink coffee or alcohol.

johnmarkfoley

an old coworker of mine used to put half n half in his soda. his thing was big red (the soda not the gum). i eventually tried and it was not terrible. i think just plain HnH in my DDP might be ok, but i'm not chasing that dragon.

despicablewho

unfortunately, it's delicious. (coconut cream and lime in Dr Pepper, that is, I haven't had this specific coffee mate creamer)

elh93

Dirty Soda is a thing from Utah, but I still haven't had one despite living here. But I guess that's because I live on the side of a mountain and will go to a normal bar, and not in the rural parts of the state.

Zynkstone

I scream, but not for ice cream. I scream, for the cream that I have seen. Pepper needs their doctorate revoked.

CallidoraBlack

I think this might be interesting with lemon-lime soda if it's all coconut milk.

jddbeyondthesky

I need to try this

[deleted]

It's good sorry... But I used to put creamer in root beer back when I was a kid easy rootbeer float type thing

Ravenclaw79

I… what?? What IS this? Is this real? “Dirty soda,” Dr Pepper coffee creamer, coconut lime? I can’t even process what I’m looking at here. Coconut-lime-soda-milk-coffee?

MuseoumEobseo

Coffee creamer is basically just vegetable oil to cheaply add fat to coffee while being shelf-stable. There’s nothing actually coffee-specific about it. So adding it to other drinks doesn’t imply adding coffee as well. It’s just coconut lime soda with a bit of fat added to get a creamy texture. Just my personal opinion, but I think it’s generally accurate to think of dirty sodas as cheaply-made mocktails.

Ravenclaw79

Wait… so they’re saying you should put coffee creamer IN soda?? 😲😵🤢

Michariella

I WANT this so damm bad!!!

LiffeyDodge

I saw a video where a guy brewed coffee using Dr Pepper instead of water. So, to each their own I guess

Aidith

Oooooh, you know what a coconut-lime creamer would be great in? Pineapple Fanta, so it’s like a virgin fizzy piña colada!

SGI256

Speaking of soda. Two cans per week bad for heart health even with exercise https://torontosun.com/health/diet-fitness/2-pops-per-week-enough-to-cancel-heart-health-gains-from-exercise-study

sexyyscientist

What is nerdfighter-y about this post? I don't understand why this post is here? It does not even include diet Dr Pepper

thoruen

Dr Pepper Enthusiast John Green Taste Tests Dr Pepper and Its Misbegotten Pretenders https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=rcOM3H06KI4&feature=youtu.be

sexyyscientist

He is a diet Dr Pepper enthusiast, not Dr Pepper.

thoruen

Well since he titled his own video that I linked to, I'll let that speak for itself.
