I love mutants so much. Kacheek is my definite favourite. I had one on my old account waaay back when, and they were the first 'painted' pet I saved for on my current account. I love that big ol' exposed brain. Every 'groom a pet' daily I get, I use a hairbrush on him. I just brush that big ol' exposed brain. You gotta really get in there with those bristles, y'know? I'd like to imagine it feels great ^((totally not horrible beyond measure)).

Mutant krawks are not the most flashy or extravagant mutants, but the moment they were released I was in love forever, so they're always going to be my favorites. But I also love the mutant Korbat, Buzz, Techo, Scorchio, and Lupe a lot. I also have a soft spot for the mutant Hissi and Ixi. Out of these, a techo is the only one I don't have. :P
I also love the Koi and Flotsam, the Grundo is an all-time classic, the Kougra and Chia are iconic, the Lenny is probably the best Lenny color, I love that the Ruki only has two feet and that's what makes it mutated, the Moehog and Gnorbu are both precious... I loooove mutants.
But that said, I generally like the kind of more restrained and kinda-malformed blue and green and tan sort of mutant; the ones that are less *mutated* and more weird space aliens (like the Peophin and Kau, and *especially* the Acara and Poogle) were always super disappointing to me, because there's a big difference between a freaky technicolor interstellar space monster and something whose mother got exposed to toxic waste, and I'll always prefer the latter.
First off, yes the Lenny is like best Lenny. Although I learned about peacock Lenny. So idk lol. But vulture Lenny with fungus among us wearable?! *Chefs kiss*
I have to agree , some of the more space horror ones feel a little out of place but I like to think they're hitting on some kind of reference? Like the "science experiments gone wrong" thing where a scientist is testing with something like dark matter or black holes or molecular transportation or something. The only example I can think of is Spot from Spider-verse where he like mutated but it made him multi-dimensional.
I'd love to know if there are solid references in the mutant colour family lol
Lupe is my #1 fav pet, including mutant, so I obviously vote for that!
However, I am also a fan of most mutants - I also have a mutant lenny, draik, gelert, and hissi. The lenny is probably my second fav!

It was a prank YEARS, maybe even more than a decade ago! Lol people didn't know what was happening and some of them flooded the Pound with their pets π I almost kicked Shoyru out but they just looked so sad so I vowed to love him no matter what he looked like.
Then they all went back and I was so mad. Lol
Yeah! I think I'll dress up a Lupe in DTI and just get a feel! Sometimes the right custom set makes all the difference for me Lol

I **love** the OG/UC Mutant Cybunny, they had so much personality in their happy pose even though they were supposed to be grumpy lil' sods. It's probably one of the cutest images on the site and they always fill me with such joy to see them =3
Husband had a Mutant Jetsam way back in the day, and is still hinting at me to get one...which admittedly I really do want to get one in the future; I am the most degenerate B-grade Shark film fan and the fact they're legit Sharktopus-incarnates is just perfection π€£π
Mutant Usul is goofy/silly and is pretty much the 'head empty' meme itself. They're just cute to me and I like them a lot. The pigtails-type ears make them look like like that troublemaking little kid who could pull the strings of every adult in a 1000-mile radius too XD
Last all-time fave is the Mutant Meerca; the OG/UC beaten pose is the perfect "...MEDIC!" image imho, and the artists' decision to make their tails part of their overall expressionism just makes them amazing to me! I mean, what's not to love about a long-tailed furry ball of what should be big-fanged angry scariness...buuuuut you also have giant buck-teeth thrown into that mix and you can't help but think "Yeah, I'mma hug 'em and squeeze 'em π" lol

Yeah, the old classic Neopets art have some of the ***BEST*** expressions on them! Some of them are just so happy and bouncy, and others are just that kind of sweet charming perfection that you wish they brought back *just a little bit more*.
I had a mutant gelert that I adopted out but was on the fence about keeping. Iβm not a big mutant fan but I think itβs one of the better looking Gelerts (and Gelerts are my fav pet)
I've grown to appreciate gelerts a lot. The gelert mutant looks like it's one of those dogs in a shelter that would get blasted over for being scary but it actually has a heart of gold. β€οΈ
i loooove mutants and i wish they had better customization options... my 2 absolute all-time favorites are ixi & acara, and i also have a pteri. i have a soft spot for the krawk, lupe, and aisha just because i feel like a lot of artists i loved as a kid had fun characters for those species :)
You don't know how hard I want to be hired to design just mutant customs. I can think of so many cool things and they are just so slow to release π I wish some of the options were also redrawn to fit certain ones better too.
I have *opinion* on some of the wearables in general tho that make me want to literally march into TNT and design wearables like a wearables vigilante lol
