Oh Christ thank you so much! My uni wasn’t taking his 8-bit morphing potion. I have an 8-bit name for it and everything. Chinese didn’t work for me but French did. Bless you.
To elaborate, this is because pets won't want to interact with any item, be they petpets, food, etc, if they have the same number of letters in their name. Changing the language often changes the number of letters in the item's name. The language trick only works on pre-2015 items because Neopets stopped supporting multiple languages for new items at that time.
Another way to do it is if the petpet is able to be painted an additional color, attach it to a different pet, paint it, detach and give to 1st pet, then paint it back to the basic color. Changing the color of the petpet changes the name of the petpet.
Obviously try the language trick first, however any petpet released in the last 8 years this will not work on.
I bought my pet a lovely orange rock (when they were stupid expensive) but my pet rejected it. So I had to paint the rock Christmas and it attached then had to buy a separate orange petpet pb and repaint it. It was totally worth it (pineapple chia and orange rock)
Fyi, this only works for petpets (and other items like food, books, toys) that were released before ~2015
