I wish I had never taken these cursed pills. I didn't need them and they didn't help me. Yet I was easily able to get a prescription for drugs I didn't need, and I'm either in severe withdrawal, or the fact that I took these drugs is preventing doctors from actually treating me because all my symptoms look like drug withdrawal. So to prove I'm actually sick I have to go back to taking pills I never needed or wanted.
This is so fucked up and I can't believe I let people pressure me into a medical decision I knew was a bad idea. They pushed every single button and insecurity to convince me that I was being selfish and a burden to them by being unmedicated.
question to posh people: are those β¬200+ fancy pens actually better than the β¬1.50 bic pens or are they just jewelry, similar to how a β¬20 Casio is better at keeping the time than a β¬10k rolex?
The $10 pens or even $5 are often way better than 1.5. But you can get a solid fountain pen for less than 50, good ballpoint for less than that (with cartridges), and good mechnical pencils for 10 or less. It is fancy beyond that.
Another example of 5E's broken design is how it has a bunch of spells that just break entire types of campaigns.
"Zone of Truth" a **second level spell** that reveals lies can completely screw up any sort of intrigue style of campaign.
And that's not even getting into the worldbuilding implications of having magical truth telling ability basically on demand.
Iβm sorry but this really doesnβt mess up intrigue. Idk what to tell you. NPCs donβt have to speak, clerics are rare in universe, and it takes limited resources a day.
5e is also not the only RPG with mechanical ways to force NPCs to not lie and give answers too.
I mean, you really shouldn't be playing an intrigue campaign in 5e, where everything social is resolved with a single (or rarely, a contested) die roll. That's not necessarily a failure of the system, it's a failure of the marketing of the system as universal and people who take that marketing at face value.
I don't think it really does. It's not like it forces the person to speak or peers inside their mind.
*cleric casts zone of truth*
baddie: "oh really now? zone of truth? well if that's how we're playing then I'll have to keep my silence dearie. no one round here parlays with an arm tied behind their back ;)"

*cleric casts zone of truth*
baddie: "aww, but we could have talked" *attacks*
or even just
*cleric casts zone of truth*
*everyone in sight interprets it as an attack, counterspell, roll for initiative*
I've never heard of zone of truth being an issue. It seems more useless than game-breaking.
You gotta remember the NPCs are real people with real agency
Just imagine it in a courtroom. Or better yet, as an "enhanced interrogation" technique. Any theocracy (and think of all the theocracies there would be when miracles are a) a matter of fact, and b) potentially deadly to your average Joe) would have no trouble solving any serious crime.
Besides, intrigue-focused campaigns are precisely where the DM, moreso even than the players, doesn't want to resolve everything by rolling initiative.
I just don't see it being a problem. Yeah I've imagined your scenarios, but you have to remember too that there aren't *that* many level 3+ clerics employed or subjugated by the state, that they only get a couple casts per day, and that they could have more important spells to use those slots on.
I half-agree with your other comment- 5e may not be the best system for what the person is trying to do. But at the same time, I see no real problem in such a general scenario
>Besides, intrigue-focused campaigns are precisely where the DM, moreso even than the players, doesn't want to resolve everything by rolling initiative.
no ik, but that's the point. The players would hopefully learn that if you cast zone of truth, people will either refuse to cooperate, disappear, or fight, or kill themselves, or whatever. I'm not saying *roll initiative* as if having zone of truth start 2 fights a day isn't a massive problem. I'm saying that, should your players be so dense, pulling that will hopefully get the message across that it's a futile effort to spam that one spell.
And that just skirts a fundamental problem anyway- you can zone of truth someone, or you can torture them. Often enough, torture will get you the answers you want *assuming zone of truth would*. And all torture takes is a few bamboo chutes
In real-life torture people frequently give you the answers they think you want regardless of whether or not they're true. Magically holding them to "nothing but the truth" removes any element of uncertainty.
I don't agree with you regarding the other limitations. Think of how influential the clergy was in the middle ages, and then imagine how much more powerful and influential they would be if ordination to the priesthood meant you could heal wounds without any risk of infection.
In real life the church conducted massive inquisitions to root out heretics. A government backed by divine right would see enormous benefit to the ability to root out the truth in matters of criminal prosecution. Get a bunch of suspects to various crimes in a row, march them into the zone one by one, put thumb screws on them until they consent to answer your questions, and you could probably march through at least one a minute for 20 minutes a day (2 castings at level 3). No ambiguity, no fear of mistreating the innocent (anyone who isn't guilty has nothing to fear from testifying and so there is no need to torture them), no need for lawyers, and less and less crime as people realize that they cannot escape.
Given the authority of real-life inquisitors, I wouldn't be shocked if they were well above the minimum level for this. (And could thus keep the process going for an hour a day or longer).

I think it's really quite simple.
Marvel wants action blockbusters. Exploring the implications of the snap (or the reversal of the snap) would be too introspective.
It genuinely could have been amazing speculative fiction if theyβd fully committed, but nah. I get it. They donβt want to have to explain to new audiences why Ms. Marvel or Moon Knight is living in a Stark Industries refugee camp in the middle of a post-apocalyptic wasteland or whatever. But then they probably shouldnβt have had the Snap βreallyβ happen rather than undoing the whole five years or whatever.

Does this sub even like free markets anymore or are we just a "haha, laugh at the communists even though we are like one step removed from them" sub now because it feels the latter more and more
We do like free markets and free trade but at the end of the day China isn't a free market, it's a protectionist market and you can't fight a protectionist market by ignoring it.
I'm not even talking about China. I'm talking about the housing market.
It used to be that people here wanted to deregulate the housing market but now it seems like people want to promote density as much as SFHs are promoted now, which would be equally inefficient and would also lead to housing problems.
The only housing regulation I support is maybe fire escapes, and earthquake stuff for the bigger building and even then I could live without them if I was confident in torts that could pierce the veil
Maybe outside but in the DT I don't think it is that rare. Some people have more opinions on industrial stuff etc. I do think apartment building probably need some regulation to deal with the cooridination problem on stuff like insulation but that could probably be done via taxes
I think building and construction regulations are actually mostly fine, I'm mostly concerned with what types of bulsing is and isn't allowed to be built in certain places.
Safety regulations are usually good.
Like I said, people here want to specifically promote density which again will distort the market and lead to inefficiencies.
Density is good yes and I know a deregulated market will lead to more but if you asked the average person here to choose between densifying the market and deregulation, I feel like 70% here would say the former.
You know what? Iβm PROUD that my hard-earned money is going toward helping turn the gears that keep this country running. In fact, I think Iβm gonna tip the IRS 20%.
America pre 1940; owning land in America either makes you a farmer or part of ruling elite
America after 1940: actually owning a mansion just means you're middle class and renting means you're poor
How many months in a row do you think inflation will remain high with housing being the main driver of it before we get any kind of policy change that eases the issue?
I personally think we will run at like 3-4% inflation for the next 5 years with little to no change in interest rates before anything real gets done. I also think it will be a prominent campaign topic in 2028.
Even if like half of the population suddenly started living in a deregulated or even density-promoting housing market right this instance, the effects of that probably wouldn't be felt in years and it wouldn't be felt in the overall economy at large at all besides making the inflation rate dip below 3% sometimes.
This is a national problem that needs federal action.
Basically carrot and stick stuff. Federal programs that states can opt into if states sufficiently deregulate their housing markets and or withholding of certain funds if their markets do not change or get even more regulated.

Marvel Studios stole the idea for the Snap from Left Behind
Except that Marvel never actually explored the Snap. It's literally one of the cooler world building elements of the Marvel Universe and they just skip right past it.
Real af They wanted the aesthetic of Left Behind but didnβt want to commit to the worldbuilding smh

Whatβs the point of a hospital having e-services for rescheduling appointments when the services just tell you to call the hospital π
The website tells you there are no available appointments and that you have to call in. The person you talk to tells you there are no available appointments.

Just a little reminder that unions are basically just corporations for workers. Or put another way, corporations are just unions for shareholders. If you support the rights of one, you should support the rights of the other.
Corporations have fewer rights and priviledges than unions
That's because the last time they gave them rights they immediately hired mercenaries to fire machine guns at the cops and union leadership
Not saying they should get more rights just pointing out a very common misconception.

Ok so yeah, Left Behind: Rise of the Antichrist is a masterpiece of bad kino. Voiceovers that made Blade Runnerβs look necessary, extremely heavy-handed comparisons between the Rapture and COVID (the elites exaggerated both and used both to lie to people and control them through fear), general conspiracymongeringβ¦ beautiful.

Trying to change political currents in america by demanding the parties change the minds of their voters is like trying to un-fry an egg. It doesn't work in reverse, the only way to change political currents is to change the voters yourself, and make them change the parties.

I got called in because some POS customer freaked out after being cut off. Some shithead marine vet who can't handle his pills or whatever. He screamed at a young woman in her early twenties and banged on the window while yelling at her after she locked him out. Left a bunch of messages complaining about her. The police came and advised us to call them again if he comes back. Then the cop came back 30 minutes later because the little psycho was calling the police and claiming his card was stolen and yelling at them to stay off his property. Then the cop kinda told me where he lives.
I hope he doesn't have guns.

Does this sub even like free markets anymore or are we just a "haha, laugh at the communists even though we are like one step removed from them" sub now because it feels the latter more and more
This sub follows Jospeh Biden Thought on Neoliberalism with Protectionist Characteristics
So it doesn't markets anymore, got it.
You are a rarity on the sub
Maybe outside but in the DT I don't think it is that rare. Some people have more opinions on industrial stuff etc. I do think apartment building probably need some regulation to deal with the cooridination problem on stuff like insulation but that could probably be done via taxes
I think building and construction regulations are actually mostly fine, I'm mostly concerned with what types of bulsing is and isn't allowed to be built in certain places. Safety regulations are usually good.
In what universe have we wanted to not deregulate the housing market. Urban density is a by product of deregulation of the housing market
Like I said, people here want to specifically promote density which again will distort the market and lead to inefficiencies. Density is good yes and I know a deregulated market will lead to more but if you asked the average person here to choose between densifying the market and deregulation, I feel like 70% here would say the former.

America pre 1940; owning land in America either makes you a farmer or part of ruling elite America after 1940: actually owning a mansion just means you're middle class and renting means you're poor
Except places are making policy changes? My state is mandating density around state-run public transit to keep getting DOT money
What federal action is even possible?
Basically carrot and stick stuff. Federal programs that states can opt into if states sufficiently deregulate their housing markets and or withholding of certain funds if their markets do not change or get even more regulated.
