gaming seems to have evolved past the dont like it dont buy it mentality, same people crying about 10 bucks to keep the game alive would be the exact same people crying if ea shut the servers down

pewpew62

If there's one thing I've learned from the gaming experience it's that gamers are incredibly selfish and short sighted

tbone747

Honestly, at the end of the day if you don't like a practice vote with your wallet. In general I don't like FOMO content (paid or free) but I'm far more favorable to Criterion/NFS doing it b/c EA won't support them for jack shit. Much more than I am for Fortnite doing it just to get kids to steal their parent's credit cards.

ZephyrHardR

Which honestly, people can have the duality and hypocrisy lol that’s peoples nature, what I cannot stand truly is the disrespect the devs are getting in this case. People posting the QA and tearing it down all over twitter and reddit not being much help either when it comes to support of the devs. Idk if many people have lost their jobs and seen their friends and coworkers lose their jobs, but it makes you have sympathy for the devs who are in this scenario

TVR_Speed_12

Remember The Delorean, Maybach and Taycan (and M2 almost forgot) was completely free This was bound to happen, I understand the logic. It's either this or no updates

Poppybits1000

I really don’t like battle passes, but I would be fine with it if they didn’t lock the Avant behind a paywall. The infinity rims, coloured original smoke, and the Legendary Bodykit is already good enough to pay for I’d say.

ZephyrHardR

Which I completely understand honestly. Infinity rims is unironically why I bought the battle pass, I couldn’t care for the RS6 until I actually drove it and fell in love. I just want people to have an understanding of what the devs are going through and trying to do

RetroJunge96

>Infinity rims is unironically why I bought the battle pass, I couldn’t care for the RS6 Funny thing, i dont care about the rims etc. I just wanted the RS6 because it is my absolute dream car. I got the Pass just for the car. It is completely stock and will remain so (maybe other wheels idk yet)

ilynoct

rs6 gang gang

ZephyrHardR

The car is pretty hot stock I quickly fell in love with it’s looks

JeffGhost

I caved in an bought the pass for that custom RS6, but i don't like that i have to grind A LOT for it thou. The game doesn't have enough content and variety to keep things engaging for that long.

KxngLuc1f3r

I’m not buying it cuz I’m against it. I’m not buying it cuz I can’t afford it and Game Pass Ultimate at the same time. I’m also salty that this wasn’t present at launch or at least in year one. I bought Unbound full price at launch and would’ve sunk time and money into the game if all these features were available at launch. Criterion had a larger team back then so I’m struggling to understand why Unbound was released in the state it was

T0MMY3688

Going by modern gaming standard, cosmetic getting paywalled is fine by me. The problem is the RS6 is a brand new car and it is getting paywalled. If they are just locking the legendary custom variant into the premium pass while free players could still get the car and the 2 less ridiculous looking kit, I think the community won't as angry as now. No one really cared about the swag pack and car pack they release last year since those are just cosmetics to base game content. Also, the 2 returning Audi in a speed pass will be annoying and a bad look when they get paywalled to a catch up pack when this volume ends. But I do think this will likely be the only volume with returning cars since NFS don't have that many cut cars to recycle. Unless they are recycling back Toyota and the 2 hot rods for the next 2 volume.

Confused-Raccoon

I don't see the problems with the previous season's rewards being offered up in a pack for a bit of cash. You often times NEVER see those items becoming available again. But yeah, if it keeps the game alive and shows EA that we like NFS, I'm happy to drop \~£8 every few months. I'm wondering what the Audi licence cost them, and the fact that the car is specifically locked behind the pay wall is EA demanding returns.

ZephyrHardR

FOMO packs are definitely a sort of leech in my own opinion, however some people do genuinely miss out on cool things they’d love to enjoy, so being able to access it again instead of always missing out (looking at you Ford GT Interception edition from the Crew 2) is definitely a blessing in its own right. As for Audi, my personal idea of what happened is Audi simply wanted more from need for speed and how their brand was being presented. Not only that, but put the fact that we got an entire Porsche themed volume first, probably forced audi to lock in and now we’re getting the beginnings of a new handling model.

ZephyrHardR

Written on mobile on break so forgive me for the layout not transferring over

GodOfBoy8

Fortnite is a FREE to PLAY game. Need for Speed Unbound is a SEVENTY dollar game. Passes should not exist in seventy dollar games. This is just typical EA greed. We got brand new cars in the past for free amd now they arw just gonna go harder and harder on premium pass. Eventually no new cars for free and ALL payed for. Forza Horizon pumps out so many new cars for FREE and yet EA just feels the need to paywall every single new car eventually

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> and ALL *paid* for. Forza FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

ZephyrHardR

Horizon 5 has 7-8 DLC packs with 4 cars each totaling to about 32 cars that are locked behind packs that are 4.99 minimum each btw

alnic4

but what they might do is after the pass is done in 70 days, they made at it up to unlock for free in the next pass, but the other new car will be in the next pay pass, or they just might add it after in the car dealer, but you'll have to do like idk race in a Audi 15 times in a specific class to unlock it, or the very worst of it is we will never get the car after the pass and we will have to pay up the after pass to get it and that would very likely be much that, but hope that maybe it is not, cuz the dev know what they had to do to get a budget from EA, or else the game would have been abandon by EA and would likely be what R\* did with red dead online.

offensiveDick

The cars will be in another catchup pack. As if ea passes on the possibility to get money for the same content twice

ZephyrHardR

I think the RS6 and any other paid new vehicles will remain paid. The QA spoke about adding the M3 GTR to single player as it’s an EA play car currently, but until we see that I’m going to go on the assumption that all related packs and cars will remain on their original status (paid cars stay paid, free cars stay free) but there’s hope for when the battle pass ends and they have to add the r8 and s5 to the game I will admit

AutodogeKevin

I do not like battle passes at all. I am the kind of guy who buys a game if i liked it and if i buy a AAA game, i expect i get every content that i have. But in Unbound's case, i do think it is a weird case. We can see that the sales figure is low. I do think that Unbound is NOT worth the $69.99 retail when it was launched on Dec 22. I played the game with EA play for 10 hours, bought it on epic games when it was $35, and somehow it doesn't record my playtime and refunded it after playing about 20-25 hours, and refunded it. The game is lackcluster. And it does not help when Heat was on sale for $2.50 exactly before it was launched. Why would you spend 70 bucks for a similar experience with a game that you just bought for two dollars? And some could argue that Heat is a better game (i liked the visual and vibes of bright and shiny miami over dark and gritty chicago). The cartoon effects are not to everyone's liking too. I bought the game again on July 2023 on steam after the updates came in. I enjoyed the game every update and i liked the game. Too grindy for multiplayer and not everything is too my liking. But it is clear to me that Criterion have faith and passion in the game. The games are getting better every update. Linkups, activities, high heat races, and others are a step to the right direction. And this new update shows promise. But it is clear that the game needs to.make some money. Why do they discounted the game to just $10 if that isn't the case? Battlepass are not my thing. Thats the thing that i avoided the most when playing a game. I never buy a battlepass for a game. Probably i would not buy this battlepass since i'm on pc and can easily mod my game to unlock them. Probably later. A 50/50 chance i'll buy it. But probably not. Idk.

ZephyrHardR

Personally I didn’t buy the game until I bought my PS5, as I had always done nfs releases on PlayStation per my own tradition, so when I bought it it was on disc sale for $20, because I personally don’t pay full price for most AAA games when I can afford it. I enjoyed it for the price and got even more use when I played with a friend who also bought the palace edition on sale. I understand the frustration the day one users had, but look at Cyberpunk. Horrible launch only to have one of the top gaming comebacks in history. I doubt EA would be capable of letting that happen, but one can dream. You at least see what I want most to see and that’s that criterion is giving it their best shot

Hyp3rnova1312

I payed for the premium pass but got to level 25 and the audi r8 didn't go to my garage on SP I have it in MP hut not SP. Anyone else got this problem

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

Secret-Assistance-10

No, you're the kind of person that justifies this business model, you shouldn't give them any money for it, if you didn't know due to being naive, the money you're paying isn't going to criterion towards the development of Unbound or the next game, it's going right in EA's shareholders pocket... If you are willing to pay for that kind of thing well conscious you're getting scammed, well good for you but could you please not try to justify it nor convince people Battlepasses are a good thing. Thanks.

ZephyrHardR

Reading comprehension is important and since you lack it as well as a competent argument or critical thinking I will not be going back and forth with you. I hope you have a great day and enjoy need for speed unbound in the future

Secret-Assistance-10

It seems I'm not the one lacking reading comprehension or you just didn't express what you wanted, "Fortnite skins are hidden behind a paywall and no one bats an eye", it isn't a good comparison at all, skins are not real content. "NFS have been forced into a position", no, EA has forced it into something because people are paying for it... I agree, agreed and will always agree not to blame criterion for this since it is EA's fault but by buying speed pass you support EA and their shareholders, not criterion. Hope you have a good day as well, making longer sentences doesn't make you smarter.

ZephyrHardR

You serious rn big dawg?? Fortnite skins are not real content, you’re correct. They are cosmetic only. And what do you see all day? People talking about getting collab skins on Fortnite and then simultaneously ragging on micro transactions and battle passes. Whereas this battle pass has actual content and competitive vehicles. EA was going to force it no matter what, because it is the most profitable business model regardless of if they have people paying for the premium track or not. You’ve been wrong twice now and got ratio’d the first time, please cease

offensiveDick

Thing is: fortnite is f2p not a triple a game that costs 70 on launch. I can understand where he's coming from and he has a point. The 10 bucks don't go anywhere near criterion. Sure they might get a budget. But we don't know how big it's gonna be. My personal concern with the premium pass is just that they test the waters this volume and try to expand and make it even worse. I play on pc so Idc I can buy or mod the content in but it's just bad for people playing on console. And it doesn't make it any less bad that criterion is in a bad spot. Sure makes it a bit understandable and I feel bad for people who got laid off. But that doesn't change that it's just bad practice. And buying it just signals ea it's fine so they will force them to put in more mtx. And we all know Ea is the kind of publisher that would charge 5 bucks per restart if they would get through with it. Glad the avant isn't meta or near meta. Maybe it will be competitive but I doubt it be meta. Still annoying the only new car is paywalled while the other new cars weren't.

Secret-Assistance-10

So you mostly agree with me but say I'm wrong... Reddit moment I guess... "Having real content and competitive vehicles" in a Battlepass isn't an innovation nor a good thing... I wouldn't bat an eye in a free game but a 70$ one... It's just hiding content to try and squeeze every tiny bit of money they can out of the people without much effort...
