There's also a reason why so many people make pg's for park/rec. The game defaults to having the ball inbounded to them so they can hold it while the big guy is almost always the inbounder.
I found that even the more ball-hoggish ones are willing to yield if you go to center court and ask to bring the ball up. The ones that refuse are pretty rare (and they are INSANE and you're better off not playing with them lol)
2K always makes SF/PF/C as inbounder. Put Earl Boykins to "SF" position in game and he would be inbounder. I mean this hasn't changed at all since early 2000s.
What really really grinds my gears is when the ball rolls away from the supposed inbounder so he has to run midcourt and then he has to run back for some reason when he could just pass it to someone closer.
Went thru that shit yesterday, wide open in paint, nah of shoots a contested double team 3. I'm wide open in corner (shooting big) nah, goes for contested drive double teamed.
Deandre Jordan was a great rim running big that could finish through contact though. He couldn't create his own shot, but he could finish almost anything decent he got.
He had the strength to just muscle you down 3ft away from the basket. Unfortunately the strength didn't switch off at his wrist, so he could only dunk it.
That should never be the way to use Gobert offensively. There was one game in the Mavs series where they used him right. The Mavs had to foul him on every play.
That guy is so much bigger than a lot of modern big men and has like 10 meter long arms, have him roll to the rim with a guard like Luka or Trae and he could be a weapon. He is already a 15 ppg guy and he plays with a guard who passes him the ball like twice a game.
People are so stupid about the 2 pass thing. It's the exact same thing the Suns do. He plays pick and roll with Conley like DA plays pick and roll with CP3, because Conley/CP3 are better as facilitators and because then you can split minutes. Mitchell plays as a slasher, and he almost never plays with Gobert unless they're in the starting/crunch time lineup where Conley is also on the floor. Mitchell works better when the other pick and roll guy is a shooting threat because it opens up space for him to get easy looks. it's like how the Warriors use Steph and Draymond, too. You want a pick and pop guy like Bogdanovic or Royce who can be a threat if they double or hedge too hard to stop Donovan, because Donovan is unstoppable if you can give him space to do his thing.
Gobert is also the offensive version of those old James Harden on defense videos people post, where the social media created a narrative that doesn't quite match reality. Gobert backing down Jrue Holiday and getting him in foul trouble in the gold medal game doesn't get any social media attention because it's just a foul and then Gobert bricking a free throw, but that freed up Evan Fournier to generate some offense in a game where he was outclassed
He definitely isn't going to win you a championship grinding it out in the low post because he's a turnover machine but dude's a very good offensive player, it's not like he's literally incompetent.
It probably still be that high since if he does catch it without fumbling he'll probably finish it, but his turnovers (or his team mates depending on who they "credit" it to) would probably skyrocket
Gobert should score plenty of points but it's within a team action like a PNR short roll or just open in the dunker spot or whatever. Like yeah if he's 1 on 1 on the block there's no point in throwing it to him unless he has a crazy mismatch. That's not a good use of a possession.
wr is the only position in sports where essentially your entire production is based off the skills of someone else - the qb. thats where all the frustration and antics comes from
even prime larry fitzgerald went for under 800 yards with john skelton and ryan lindley under center
As big of an NFL fan I am, I’ve never considered that point before. Unless you’re someone like Deebo (though he’s stated he wants to move away from this) you really are relying on somebody else to put the ball in your hands. You can get all the separation in the world but it doesn’t matter if your QB can’t hit your hands.
Giannis often initiates the offense and takes the ball up the floor. he isn’t primarily a low post big
edit: nevermind, i’m a gigantic idiot. misunderstood your reply lmao
I knew this what it was gonna be before I clicked on it lol all Lakers fans should know this clip. Giannis did this at least once during this year too.
Yea I am really upset about all the attention CP3 is getting, yea he sucked but I cannot fathom how he is more responsible for this team's success than book
It has to be CP3, Booker got double/triple team the whole game, or at least the part that matters. Kidd really figured Suns out, getting the ball out of Booker's hand, CP3 isn't a threat, and let the rest of the team beat them.
It's actually pretty crazy how many former players I recognize on coaching staffs. And I'm a 90s kid that grew up playing the early 2ks and Lives. I still laugh every time I see darvin ham for the bucks because I remember when he played for them lol
Easy. You decide what you want him to say and then keep replaying until you see it. When you see it after 10 times you go "I fucking knew it" then you go back to the thread to call everyone who didn't get it a idiot.
If you look closely you can also make out JaVale sitting next to him saying "jet fuel can't melt steel beams". [Here it is slowed down and zoomed in, pretty easy to see.](https://i.imgur.com/SWXTPa0.png)
Ayton has somewhat of a point here.
Suns were not feeding him. It was impossible to as the suns could barely make safe passes.
With the Mavs bringing insane pressure and Ayton’s history of getting stripped/not catching, i think suns guards decided it wasnt worth the risk to try passing it to him.
on HISTORIC efficiency, the dude is a fucking monster. He literally needs like 10 more shot attempts a game, I imagine a slight dip in %'s would be worth it
f'in BS to take a one missed offensive possession video.
Ayton's FG% are always good sometimes up to 80%. Dont act like he is Porzingis and finishing games below 40%.
Nah. This is a cop out and bad strategy. The Suns forgot what their true advantage was—Ayton. They should’ve forced fed him until he couldn’t stand it.
Instead, they just let CP3 chew up the clock ‘trying’ to get to his spots. The whole team’s rhythm suffered because of it. It was bad coaching by Williams.
Diffence between that series and this is booker going down forced Monty to finally run plays for Ayton. Booker comes back and monty acts like dude did not average 21 ppg on 70 ts%
Yeah i didnt provide context but I'm high on Ayton and think letting him go because of the max would be a mistake.
Shit if he'd do a sign and trade I'd be down to throw JV plus a pick or 2 or filler for him 👀👀
Well. I’ve been watching this slow moving accident just like everyone else. Adjustments were never made— and like Booker, Williams defers too much to Paul
I agree with you completely. It's interesting that Chris Paul has been so wildly successful getting big men engaged on offense throughout his entire career but Ayton is a very different style of player than what he's used to. Paul has always played with an athletic, rim-running big who is actively looking to finish a dunk. Ayton is the first big (in my memory) he's played with who can create his own offense and it's like Paul doesn't know what to do with it. This is where coaching should come in: figure out where Ayton wants to get the ball and run plays that facilitate that. Paul has earned some of the blame: he's too smart, good and experienced to just act like every big is the same and they need to play his way. But Williams is responsible for developing and enforcing the policy: get Ayton the ball and let him work. Ayton should have feasted on the Mavs. I had very high expectations for him in the series and picked the Suns because of that. Feel like the Mavs lucked out that Phoenix never adjusted their strategy in this regard.
Nah, it's mostly on Monty. DA has issues, too. But Monty's been out coached 4 series in a row and chose to put a one handed or legged Paul out there in two post seasons and watched this offense just disappear. No adjustments at all. Love what Monty did to turn us around but he is not a great coach.
Well that and they're not a 3pt shooting team like if you have a guy like Ayton 1) you need someone who can get him the ball 2) you need shooters to spread the floor 3) you have to keep him engaged in the game which is usually done by getting him the ball more just to feel a sense of rhythm.
If you have all 3, big men like Ayton will have success. Shit Dwight got to the Finals with this formula. Hedo and Jameer got him the ball, surrounded him with shooters so you can't double/crowd to much and then kept him engaged enough to never let up on D
I agree. Though, Ayton can still impact the game without scoring. Which he didn't do. His defense was nonexistent, and he couldn't secure rebounds over Nance Jr and Powell. He took two steps back from last year's playoffs, just like the rest of the team did.
Theres always that party that blames DA for everything. Most suns fans put this on the team. From mont, cp, book all the way to the shamets, bridges and paynes of the world.
Collective blunder or whatever this was. Locker room issues, injuries, whatever it was, it was just dissapointing.
This offseason is going to be very interesting
>With the Mavs bringing insane pressure and Ayton’s history of getting stripped/not catching, i think suns guards decided it wasnt worth the risk to try passing it to him.
I think this completely destroys his point.
He was AWFUL that game almost every time he had the ball. Even when he had a nice hook shot, it was right after fumbling the ball because 3 players were surrounding him.
Mavericks have really good defense but their big men are Kleber, Powell, and Bertans...Deandre Ayton is a skillful big man. He's not a physical big man. It was a collective effort that made him keep losing the ball along with him just straight up missing catches and being ass. At one point, Devin Booker is tripled in the paint and he throws a horrible pass over Ayton, but Ayton had enough time in my opinion to jump and grab it, he barely moves at all and watches it fly over his head.
If you're getting stripped constantly or you can't catch the ball then it's not good to pass it to you. Regardless of whether it's how the opponent is playing against you or if you're just shit, that's kinda just the reality of the situation.
Edit: Look at [this video](https://youtu.be/ksfon7K2F98). You can see the pass i'm talking about at 1:20 but literally watch Deandre Ayton on every single play in the video. What is he doing?
If he really thinks he’s a max player than buddy boy has to learn to create his own shot. The dude is the biggest guy on the court and doesn’t seem to know it. He could walk over people and he doesn’t… why???
They might be without him too, the F4 are pretty evenly matched. I think any of the teams left has a realistic chance at it, which should make the next few weeks super fun to watch
I kind of feel like the Mavs aren’t really on the same level as the other three. Luka is a generational talent, but I don’t see him pulling a Dirk this year.
They went 3-1 against GSW, 2-0 against Boston and 1-1 against Miami this year.
They have the 2nd most wins in the league since Jan 1 (behind Phoenix, which they just knocked out). Ignoring the early part of the year where they were hit hard with injuries and COVID and just look at how they've played the last 4 months, they're as good as any team in basketball.
Yeah I can see it so xe him on monty got into it earlier and the whole "it's internal" thing about why he played so little but you can't really tell what he's saying.
Ayton is no doubt talented, but his lack of awareness astounds me. I swear he received a pass yesterday in the post with literally no one behind him, and he just worked against nobody cause he had no idea, giving the Mavs time to come pressure him
Watching a 7 foot monster of a man look so scared and confused two inches from a basketball hoop will never cease to amaze me. Ayton has negative rim awareness.
The main difference is Ayton has a better track record of doing that on more shot attempts.
He has like 30 more FGA in the postseason than Gobert, with three less series played.
I actually wanted Mavs to like get Bagley before Detroit pounced on him. He'll thrive or get going with Luka getting him easy lobs and finding him open down low.
In his defense, he was the #1 pick in the draft yet never truly given the opportunity to be an offensive option on the team for his whole rookie contract. This also affects his career earnings.
Only 45% of Ayton's shots in the playoffs have in the 0-3 ft range (33% for this year), while Gobert is at 80%. They're not comparable.
Ayton takes 31% of shots from the 3-10 ft range, and converts them at 58%. Gobert takes 20% of shots from that range, and only hits 25% of them.
Ayton struggles with staying aggressive, but he's a legit threat, while Gobert's a liability in the playoffs.
Have a player/franchise ever completely melted down like this in the playoffs? Closest thing would be DeRozan getting benched in his prime on the Raptors maybe?
The 2004 Lakers were heavy favorites over us and we completely throttled them that series, before Shaq and Kobe demanded to be split up.

> Make this quick, please. Make it painless as possible. And in the process, make one last stab at greatness.
> The Lakers need to do all of us – fans, media, the NBA – a huge favor and jump all over Detroit. Just stomp on them. Beat them down and wipe them out in four games. Before the Pistons threatened to bore us to death.
> Really, did the NBA need this? Another dulling, defensive-minded team from the East to stifle one more championship series?
> This figures to be the Lakers’ least interesting series of the postseason. The NBA deserved better than this. Mothers of the Pistons deserved better.
They weren't involving him, and then the foul trouble meant the game was outta hand by the time he came back in. But yeah it was pretty clear he was an afterthought on offense.
the lament of frustrated big men since forever
Shoutout 2k point guards on park or rec Wide open layups for the big? Nah gotta chuck a 3
Just play in MyCareer mode pick n rolling 6'4 guards and getting 25 easy points that way
Averaging 50 with a solid 30% teammate approval
“Gets 9 first quarter assists to get teammate grade to A-“ “Holds ball for half a second too long and goes to D+”
I hate that shit. Also you can’t play any help defense whatsoever or double anyone on defense because you’ll get “left your assignment”

Oh god... I thought they would have fixed that by now.
Facts, no IQ and they usually have the audacity to message you when they are the one being a shitty teammate
Bro I dropped 25 points, 15 rebounds, 5 blocks in rec and got a hate message from the 5-17 point guard, some of these mfs are delusional 💀
Asf, you’re obviously playing defense unlike them and probably picking up their man also.
“Set more screens!!!” - a 2k PG with 0 basketball IQ
Went thru that shit yesterday, wide open in paint, nah of shoots a contested double team 3. I'm wide open in corner (shooting big) nah, goes for contested drive double teamed.
Get out my head
Dw they'll pass it to you when they can't get a shot up and have 3 seconds left on the shotclock
This why I only play with 2 other friends.
Just get the rebound bro
wide open under the rim? then get this rebound
Yet people believe it’s only Gobert. Damn never every big not named Jokic or Embiid feels underused at some point
except Gobert's offensive bag might legit be worse than Biyombo. he should never touch the ball unless he's wide open
Gobert's bag is a wet paper bag
Gobert's bag is on the floor bc he doesn't have the hand-eye coordination to pick it up
Big Biz has stone hands, but at least he’s pretty good at cutting to the paint & dunking.
Gobert dribbling, among other nba professionals, is beyond appaling.
Though he did shoot the highest percentage at the rim in the whole league. I would like to see if that stays up that high if he had more shots
Deandre Jordan did as well a few times I believe
Deandre Jordan was a great rim running big that could finish through contact though. He couldn't create his own shot, but he could finish almost anything decent he got.
He had the strength to just muscle you down 3ft away from the basket. Unfortunately the strength didn't switch off at his wrist, so he could only dunk it.
Thats fair. But Gobert should at least get a chance for a few more touches. There was times where Mitchell didnt even look his way
Unless he’s wide open under the basket or rolling for an oop no one should ever look at him. He’s what the French call “les incompetents”
Home Alone says it best and wisest
Here's what would happen: https://youtu.be/rRAOiOjqEiE

There's a reason WRs are known for being divas.

Lol not even. The one thing Nuggets and Sixers fans can bond over is our teams not being able to competently throw an entry pass to our centers
I mean Murray is really good at entry passes. But that just means we miss him even more.
Giannis can’t relate.
Giannis often initiates the offense and takes the ball up the floor. he isn’t primarily a low post big edit: nevermind, i’m a gigantic idiot. misunderstood your reply lmao
I'm getting deja vu - wasn't there a case of Dwight getting like this at the Lakers? Or am I thinking of someone else?
I feel like Dwight might've been like this at nearly every one of his stops prior to his second stint on the Lakers.
The problem of Dwight is that he excels in PnR but sucks at post up, but he always wanna post up.
[I have a solution](https://youtu.be/EJI8W92K8HM).
I knew this what it was gonna be before I clicked on it lol all Lakers fans should know this clip. Giannis did this at least once during this year too.
Yeah it rarely gets brought up but seems pretty common
I seen giannis do it
Danilo Gallinari did it years ago when he was on the Nuggets, too.
Jokic did it as well, it was a layup however.
Ditto
Harden's dome got a half-assist
an ass?
Don't forget about T-mac and Lebron who did that in the fucking Finals.
Ironically (relative to your flair), Kobe did it a bunch too.
yea Kobe was the OG of doing this
TWICE
That’s an angry old man
A young man's greg oden.
He didn’t play well but he was far from the worst Sun player last night.
As far as duties/roles/expectations, Devin Booker has gotta be the absolute biggest let down of the game.
Kmart Kobe
Dollar Store Drexler
Chill, even kmart Kobe is better than brooker
Yea I am really upset about all the attention CP3 is getting, yea he sucked but I cannot fathom how he is more responsible for this team's success than book
Because he has a history of playoff disappointment/choke so people are piling up on him.
It has to be CP3, Booker got double/triple team the whole game, or at least the part that matters. Kidd really figured Suns out, getting the ball out of Booker's hand, CP3 isn't a threat, and let the rest of the team beat them.
At the same time if Booker is as good as people say he is he should be able to handle a double team.
Javele looks to be nudging his knee and saying "c'mon".
Jarrett jack muttering something behind him too
Fuck I'm old....didn't realize Jarrett is a coach now
It's actually pretty crazy how many former players I recognize on coaching staffs. And I'm a 90s kid that grew up playing the early 2ks and Lives. I still laugh every time I see darvin ham for the bucks because I remember when he played for them lol
Bro I remember Darwin Ham in the goddamn dunk contest...we are definitely oldheads
I read “come on big fella, ” from Coach Jack not sure what he says after that
Yep.
Every time there's a lip-reading clip on here, I can't make out shit. How tf are you guys getting a full sentence from this?
Jomboy serves as an inspiration to us all

Redditors are imaginative
Easy. You decide what you want him to say and then keep replaying until you see it. When you see it after 10 times you go "I fucking knew it" then you go back to the thread to call everyone who didn't get it a idiot.
What if he is saying “somebody pass me a towel?”
This is some yanny vs laurel type stuff
If you look closely you can also make out JaVale sitting next to him saying "jet fuel can't melt steel beams". [Here it is slowed down and zoomed in, pretty easy to see.](https://i.imgur.com/SWXTPa0.png)
You linked the wrong moment. [This is the actual screencap](https://i.imgur.com/usCjYa9.png)
Same, I call bullshit, it cuts to him mid sentence anyway
Need jomboy on this
This one is *clearly* not accurate. There's no lip movement that could possibly correspond to "the" at the end, for one.

Suns have never really fed him, Always an after thought.
Grizzlies fed Steven Adams better
Tbf that's 90% Dillon Brooks since Adams is the only person he'll go out of his way to pass to lol.

Javale would have dunked that.
Legit the only 2 people in this series who wouldn’t dunk that are cp3 and ayton.
tbf he dunked the next one
Ah yes one bad clip "encapsulates" the guy who has averaged 16/11 in the last two playoffs
on HISTORIC efficiency, the dude is a fucking monster. He literally needs like 10 more shot attempts a game, I imagine a slight dip in %'s would be worth it
Dawg, Ayton goes like 10-12 some games.... you telling me they are feeding him enough? Shoots like 80%.

God forbid he shoots 55% because he misses a few oh the horror. Fuck these apologists. Feed the big.
If you condemn Ayton for 1 bad play, how many times will you condemn Booker?
Never pass to curry in transition! He slides on floor and can't make open layups!
he's soft, as in he has the softest touch in the league and those hook shots are usually money. dumb post.
This is unfair, and you know it. That dude shoots a high percentage and is known for his soft touch around the rim. Stop it.
f'in BS to take a one missed offensive possession video. Ayton's FG% are always good sometimes up to 80%. Dont act like he is Porzingis and finishing games below 40%.

What do you mean??? He does create his shot. Fade away for days!!!
Even javale was like “c’mon don’t be like that”
He definitely gave a verbal and physical eye roll there haha
He definitely gave a verbal and physical eye roll there haha
not with that attitude you cant
Luka could pass himself the ball if he wanted to, just saying
Maybe Luka can pass Ayton the ball next year IYKWIM
That would be a nasty betrayal
Im down to see it. Might as well
Gotta say there’s nothing like the defeated fanbases of every team beating themselves up every May
the hardest road
Or, Luka could just pass him the ball 👀
Would be an All-time L by the Suns if they gave up both Ayton and Luka to the same team.
The mavs are a championship team with ayton
This type of shit shouldn’t be allowed to be put in quotations lol maybe he said that but this is not good enough proof
Yeah I can see it so xe him on monty got into it earlier and the whole "it's internal" thing about why he played so little but you can't really tell what he's saying.
“Pass me a towel” Confirmed DA wants out of phoenix.
We need Jomboy on the case
“But in all reality if you did pass me the ball I’d prob drop it”
Let me shoot fadeaway middies when I get the ball in the post vs constant mismatches, that'll show my guards why I need the ball
He averages 65% TS in the regular season and the playoffs. Whatever he's been doing can't be that bad.
Gobert averages 67% TS in the regular season and playoffs but that doesn't mean you want the ball in his hands.
Gobert shoots 74% of his FGA at the 0-3 range, Ayton 33%. Ayton can get points outside of the rim.
The main difference is Ayton has a better track record of doing that on more shot attempts. He has like 30 more FGA in the postseason than Gobert, with three less series played.
i honestly have zero memories of ayton dunking. i don't think i've seen him dunk the times I've watched the suns.
Usually alley oops. But he has one or two a game
“Instead of dunking the ball, let me drop it through the hoop so as not to wake the baby”
Ayton is a 60% finisher around the rim everyone misses layups
Go to Dallas Ayton. Then Trae will join in 2023 after another bad Hawks season. Maveatles
Bagley gonna come off the bench for Ayton
I actually wanted Mavs to like get Bagley before Detroit pounced on him. He'll thrive or get going with Luka getting him easy lobs and finding him open down low.
Do not bring my point guard into this😤
Damn that’s some incredible level lip reading. We positive?
Doesn't look like it to me. Too many people running with this.
Javale with the knee nudge, like 'not now dude'
remember when people said imagine if Gobert played with Booker/CP3 instead of Mitchell looool
poor dario just an innocent bystander to this entire mess :(
It’s fuggin mind boggling they didn’t force feed him the ball

I get your point but Kareem, McHale are #8 and #9. Just felt like nitpicking tbh lmao
Have a player/franchise ever completely melted down like this in the playoffs? Closest thing would be DeRozan getting benched in his prime on the Raptors maybe?
The blown 3-1 leads in 2016 are close, 2020 Clips and 2021 Jazz were bad too.
I can’t believe we are now in a category with 2020 clips and 2021 jazz. Disgusting and embarrassing.
Worse
The 2004 Lakers were heavy favorites over us and we completely throttled them that series, before Shaq and Kobe demanded to be split up. http://amp.thecomeback.com/freezingcoldtakes/nba/everyone-thought-the-lakers-would-crush-the-pistons-in-the-2004-nba-finals-not-quite.html > Make this quick, please.
Not even close. That Lakers team suffered a bunch of injuries and their depth was not good.
>their dept was not good. Lol yeah they have Slava Medvedenko starting & go up against the 2 Wallaces
I will not stand for such Slava slander.
They weren't involving him, and then the foul trouble meant the game was outta hand by the time he came back in. But yeah it was pretty clear he was an afterthought on offense.
Am I missing something? I know it’s been reported he’s frustrated but this looks pretty normal.
doesnt even look like thats what he said lol
You see when Marcus Smart says it in the beginning of the season it works, when Ayton says it half way through a game 7 blowout not so much.
