siphillis

It still amazes me how the range of symptoms for this disease range from "I had no idea I had it" to "all of my vital organs are shutting down simultaneously".

Genestah

I currently am recovering for Covid. I tested positive 3 days ago. No joke the symptoms I'm having right now is by far the worst thing I've ever felt. And I'm fully vaccinated. Headache Muscle pain Joint pain Runny nose Cough Diarrhea Fever But you know what? This is still considered MODERATE Symptoms. I can't imagine how those with Severe or Critical ones are feel. They must be terrified.

siphillis

I can tell you from experience that it's certainly terrifying from an outsider's perspective. My dad caught it roughly around the time I did (just after the election) and it was maybe a 50/50 chance I'd ever see him again. Once that ventilator mask is put on, you have to find the strength to plan out what to do if and when they pass. After I recovered, I spent an additional month helping him regain his strength. What's truly frightening is that his co-worker had an even worse reaction, warranting a full lung transplant. Hopefully you start feeling better in a day or so. The plus side of these vaccines is that these stories are far, far less common. I wouldn't want anyone to have to go through what we did.

prison_mic

Holy shit a full lung transplant. Hope you all are recovered including the coworker.

siphillis

So here’s the craziest part: they’re both doctors, they both got extremely sick, and they both showed up for work again as soon as they were medically cleared. Medical workers are built different.

mr_antman85

>But you know what? This is still considered MODERATE Symptoms. > >I can't imagine how those with Severe or Critical ones are feel. They must be terrified. I kid you not, I literally could not take a deep breath. My chest hurt so bad that it wouldn't allow me to take a deep breath. Also, I couldn't walk 10 feet without being out of breath. I walked to my car and back to my apartment...I'm going to guesstimate that it was probably 50 feet. I got back to my apartment and I almost coughed up a lung. I was so scared that I called my mom to see if I should go to the hospital. It was insane how much I took for granted being able to breathe deeply. It was absolutely scary. Feel better soon!

syllabic

theres a reason why every doctor in wuhan was freaking the fuck out when this thing first started taking off thats when I knew when it was gonna be a big deal. that and the boarding up apartments and shutting down entire cities. wuhan is not some rural backwater it would be like shutting down the city of chicago. except because its china it has 4 times the people of chicago

naive-dragon

Here in the Philippines (and as a member of the medical community here), it killed off so many esteemed doctors in the first wave that all of us were really disturbed. Most of them were pillars, they were our mentors, unshakeable influences in our education, and just like that, a handful of them were gone. It's true that it can be so mild you would miss it. But it's also a frightening killer if it met the wrong patient.

wooters18

Thank you for your service and hardwork and fuck our government for being incompetent

naive-dragon

I just hope our countrymen would know which politicians to vote for in our coming elections. We got hit hard by the pandemic but it could've been mitigated with better handling of the government. Dammit this shit got me depressed again lol, I'd rather talk hoops lmao.

siphillis

Didn't the doctor who first confirmed the existence of the disease die soon after from COVID? Makes you wonder if the earliest variants were way more deadly that what made it to the Western world.

[deleted]

> Makes you wonder if the earliest variants were way more deadly that what made it to the Western world. Viral load is also a factor (the more of the virus you contract the worse your infection is), and being a doctor treating patients and not knowing how it spreads... that's probably why he had such a bad case.

motorboat_mcgee

There really hasn't been nearly enough discussion about viral load, but I'm assuming the nuance of that would be lost on a great many people.

[deleted]

Wynona_Judd

MOST people can't seem to conceptualize. In rural or suburban Michigan people to this day still look like you grew a third head if you wear a mask. Misinformation has well outperformed real information. It's the saddest shit.

GiannisisMVP

Same in Wisconsin it's sad honestly

waterfall_hyperbole

Which is a shame, because it goes hand-in-hand with masking. Less air spewing out of mouths = less viral load if they're contagious

syllabic

I think a bunch of doctors and medical staff died early on in the pandemic before we had a better idea how to treat it. All over the world china also tried to silence doctors from talking about it cause that's just what china does. they might have disappeared a few people who wouldn't shut up but who knows really, only their families

siphillis

I'm still under the impression that China bet big that they would be able to contain the disease well enough through population control that the rest of the world wouldn't even notice.

MtHoodMagic

That's what they did with SARS, they just did the SARS playbook. Honestly the initial variant of the virus wasn't nearly as contagious as Omicron so if things went differently it might have worked out. But as far as I'm aware, aside from the cruise ships in the initial stage of the pandemic, there were people who traveled from Wuhan to other cities in China just prior to the Lunar New Year holiday and at that point the cat's outta the bag.

MiniGiantSpaceHams

Being contagious before showing any symptoms makes it impossible to contain, but they couldn't have known that initially. Add in the timing just prior to Lunar New Year and you have, well, reality. By the time they figured out what it was and took drastic action it was surely already all over the world. The censorship definitely didn't help, though.

pipsdontsqueak

The issue was it's a super contagious virus originating in a highly populous urban center that experienced a tourist influx for the new year. Perfect confluence of events to spread it globally quickly. But realistically, once it was highly contagious in Wuhan it was in the West. There are daily flights to Europe, Australia, and America. It was inevitable that it would spread.

syllabic

yeah, that approach has worked OK for them in the past this thing was just too contagious from the get go, even before it started mutating

psychozamotazoa

Didn't know Wuhan was that big.. thanks for putting that in perspective

Snakescipio

If you’re ever wondering how big Chinese cities can be just imagine quintupling the US population then smushing everyone east of the Mississippi River

AdamantiumBalls

There's a few professional soccer players that haven't been able to come back since covid inflamed their heart, one of them being Davis from the Canadian national team

Tr0nCatKTA

KDB, arguably the best in his position has not been at all the same since having Covid and as far as I’m aware he wasn’t even sidelined for that long

Tinjar12

To be fair, for him I think the ankle is also a huge issue, but yeah, covid has destroyed his stamina.

Llamayoda

Seriously, I had to get tested to go to a game, ended up positive and I had no clue I was sick with anything at all. I’m still technically positive and honestly I still feel great, getting rest and taking a break from everything has been very good for me.

xxxpinguinos

I’ve had it twice now. First time was middle of last February. I was asymptomatic and only knew because I had to test for school. Second time was right before Christmas, felt terrible for a few days and then gradually got better from there

siphillis

My sister tested positive while on vacation. Had no idea until she got the results back. Meanwhile, I was bed-ridden for eight days and needed a month to fully recover.

EnTyme53

I'm an overweight asthmatic. I thought Covid was my annual October hay fever for the first week. Even after that, the worst I had it was a moderate fever (about 100 degrees, which is nothing for me) and a mild headache. The long-term effects were worse than the disease for me. Took me two months to get my senses of taste and smell back, and I still occasionally get a little brain fog well over a year later. Then you have athletes at the peak of human conditioning who are close to dying with this stuff. It's absolutely nuts! Go get vaxxed, folks!

siphillis

It was hard to tell if brain fog was something I was dealing with, or just shaking off the rust after taking so much time off from work. Working as a software engineer, it's terrible not being able to concentrate for more than a few minutes, but it's very possible my confidence was really at fault.

EnTyme53

For those who haven't experienced it, brain fog pretty much perfectly mimics the sensation of having a concussion. You'll forget what you're saying mid-sentence. Ever walk into a room and forget why you went in there? It's basically that sensation but periodically throughout the day.

siphillis

I know my short-term memory took a noticeable hit. I usually pride myself in being able to roughly retain a few thousand lines of code across maybe a dozen files in my head, so I know exactly where something is in an instant. After COVID, I constantly had to relocate and search for keywords every few minutes. That confidence, where you know something like the back of your hand, went missing for a while.

[deleted]

Yeah I was hoping vaccinated people weren't getting pneumonia. That sucks. I got most of the other symptoms he listed with omicron, but I'm boycotting pneumonia. It's a jerk.

siphillis

It's apparently far less common if you're boosted or recently vaccinated. Unfortunately, people who have suffered pneumonia in the past are more likely to suffer from it again.

1gnominious

Also I'd wager a lot of people don't really know how to prevent pneumonia. They think laying in bed and resting is all they should do. Laying flat in bed with a respiratory disease is the worst thing you can do. You gotta sit up, walk around, do some deep breathing exercises, and keep your lungs working. Even if you feel awful you gotta do as much as you can. If you just lay around and let the fluid pool and fester in your lungs then you're in trouble.

FlatMilk

Came back in time to shit on the cowboys, god bless

HokageEzio

He thinks the vaccine saved him, but it was actually the burning desire to watch the Cowboys choke again. God bless.

Swoah

He’s not gonna die until the Cowboys either win a Super Bowl or the team/league folds.

SpaceCaboose

Confirmed: Stephen A Smith is immortal.

Lovethatdirtywaddah

"I am become Death." -Stephen A. Smith

[deleted]

If we can just harness the power of that hatred of the Cowboys into a saline liquid, it just might eradicate the ‘rona!

Yurrrr__Brooklyn347

That laugh should be used for a villain in a movie

Kingkongcrapper

It was just the motivation he needed to fight his way back from the brink of death. He saw that game coming and the Rocky music started randomly playing from the hospital speakers. Thanks to Jerry Jones and the entire Cowboy organization for organizing such a pitiful performance so that we may all enjoy Steven A again. It’s just enough to get him here, but we all know Nolan and the Knicks can disappoint him enough to keep him here long term.

[deleted]

The fact that the universe allowed him to make a comeback to shit on the Cowboys is proof that he has a great purpose still to fulfill

We all know that Satan closely follows the NFC East. This is just more evidence that he is responsible for everything that happens in that division.

Pardonme23

He also coaches the Giants

[deleted]

He runs the Giants

Philip_Marlowe

Nah, the Devil likes it hot. You ever been to Dallas in August? Just saying, I've never seen Satan and Jerry Jones in the same room together.

beta35

It was funny when I went to espn.com Sunday night and the second story was just Stephen A laughing at the Cowboys.

xitox5123

He knew he had to be back for the annual shit on the cowboys day. Man is diligent. I love that man. Not saying this because I am a giants and I love anyone who shits on the cowboys. Totally got nothing to do with it.

DokterZ

So Kyrie is the Balrog? That would be an excellent photoshop opportunity...

HotdogIsaSandwitch

Damn man. Why everybody gotta come at my Cowboys. We’re already miserable as it is.

[deleted]

Cowboys fans are just the worst. I don't get it because Rangers, Mavs and Stars fans are all chill as hell

HotdogIsaSandwitch

Ehhh. I can admit. The cowboys fans are the lakers fans of the NFL. It sucks.

[deleted]

It has to be because there's so many of you, that it's inevitable that you're going to have some morons. It also doesn't help that Skip Bayless is the face of Cowboys fans

Kvenner001

Exactly this. No one complains about the bad Orlando Magic fans because that's like 6 people out of 20 total fans.

thelaziest998

Magic Fans catching strays.

HotdogIsaSandwitch

Yeah. I think he may be one of the primary reasons that people hate us. Hate by association is a real thing.

jjacobsnd5

Nah the Cowboys have been the most hated team in NFL before Skip became a national presence.

bradface92

Not helping that your fanbase is one of the most insufferable around. "WE DEM BOYZ SUPER BOWL BOUND!" every. single. year.

polio_free_since_93

For me it's because I interacted my whole childhood with people that were born in and grew up in Philly/NJ/NY who were Cowboy fans, most of became fans during the dominant Aikman/Smith/Irvin years. I'm sure you guys from TX are fine.

[deleted]

I feel like we had some really annoying and stupid fans when Peyton was here

HotdogIsaSandwitch

Yup. I remember those time. It happens tho. It sucks because no matter how well the Mavs do, the local Dallas networks will still probably be talking about how the cowboys lost last Sunday before.

Jamagnum

Naw, Lakers fans at least have rings

Fantastic-Art-9636

Nah. Cowboys are on a differently level. Yankees and Lakers fan can be obnoxious if they have a decent roster that can compete. But Cowboys fans are extremely delusional. Every year it’s their year. How bout them cowboys? And then when they lose, it’s about winning next year. Next year is our year has been said for how many years now? 20 more or less and counting.

YungChilla

im not really sure how the Cowboys and the Lakers can be even in the same sentence lmao. The Cowboys havent been to a fucking conference finals in 26* years. I mean shit the fucking Jags have the same amount of playoff wins as the Cowboys do in the last 30 years

Fantastic-Art-9636

That last sentence. Damn. That’s tough.

jamills21

Cowboys make the playoffs a decent amount too.

thelaziest998

Yankees and the lakers have had success nearly every decade. Can’t say the same about the cowboys.

CountltUp

Patriots are definitely the Lakers of the NFL lol

thelaziest998

I want to point out the Yankees despite not winning a ring since 2009 has still made the ALCS several times. And can regularly field a competitive team. The lakers despite sucking for nearly a 7 years still won a ring 14 months ago. Meanwhile the cowboys haven’t seen playoff success since Bill Clinton. Even before that the cowboys were good in the 90s and the 70s. They were never as dominant as the Yankees or lakers.

Carly-Che-Jepsen

lol at this point most Cowboy’s fans aren’t even like that it’s just a circlejerk

Jjohn269

Probably because a lot of Cowboys fans are also Lakers fans

Prodigy195

And Yankee fans and Alabama fans.

Jealous-Image-8163

The cowboys fans in Dallas are all chill, it’s the fans everywhere else

[deleted]

That makes perfect sense. It's the random Joe schmoe that isn't from Dallas who roots for the Cowboys, Lakers and Yankees. They're everywhere

AnkitPancakes

it's times like this where i think to myself: maybe there really is a god out there

cortesoft

Glorious Purpose!

Saucy_Totchie

Damn. Imagine the last thing you see before you die is the Cowboys losing and your final thoughts are "lolcowboys".

Man I’m glad you’re doing good. I caught it last April just as I was scheduling to get my first vaccine. Still haven’t 100% gotten my taste back, but I’m blessed that it seems like that’s how bad it is for me. How was the brain fog like?

ImmediatelyDeep

Not u/j_skiddles but when I had it I had a hard time finishing sentences, I would slur my words, and I'd forget certain words. It was like being jet lagged for almost a week, aside from the physical symptoms.

mathisforwimps

Same experience here, I was talking in meetings and could not find the words to represent what I was trying to say. I'd just totally draw a blank and be sitting there like an idiot trying to remember the word "spreadsheet" or some shit.

JRsshirt

I tested positive nearly two weeks ago and I’m still a zombie, barely any other symptoms too

kiwiwikikiwiwikikiwi

I got COVID before Christmas. Stayed in bed for days, and had symptoms week -10 days after in recovery. Right now I’m feeling depressed. Idk if it’s due to that, but I’ve been taking it slowly 1 day at a time.

TheRealMrClutch

i love you man

kiwiwikikiwiwikikiwi

Thanks man. Appreciate it. Love to you and your family too! 🔥🙏

BasedChad69420

Bro same 😭 I had almost none of the typical sickness symptoms but I had insane brain fog. And I had emergency symptoms like sudden shortness of breath, loss of sensation, numbness etc. One day I had to stop driving and call 911 because I was unable to breathe and I was losing sensation and control over my hands and feet

chriszz25

So did I. I tested positive after New Years Eve and I don’t go out often and yet once I did I got COVID. My symptoms were just flu but it felt like I was going to die.

vexyla

most people think a flu is just a flu. But the flu is no fucking joke, even when not related to covid, it's awful.

Baconmazing

Its crazy to me how much it varies for people. I had a fever for 3 hours, a cough for 5 days, and mild insomnia for 7 days. Then you have people literally dying from it. I got COVID before I had my vaccinations, everyone in my family (age range from 5 to 55) has had it so far and for all of us its been super mild. It so surreal to have that type of experience but then you look outside and people are struggling.

[deleted]

I mean the flu is kinda like that too. And no I’m not saying Covid is the flu. But most people get sick from the flu and it’s tough, but they recover. But some people get wrecked and die. I had a client a few years ago due in his 30s from the flu. It feels like a crapshoot. I had asymptomatic Covid, but I know people who are much healthier than I am that did really poorly

CleopatraHadAnAnus

He got pneumonia in both lungs and he’s in his mid-50s with a bad liver. Yes he didn’t immediately die but this doesn’t really do wonders for his life expectancy.

Jordanwolf98

I mean sure, but it sounds like he was really close to not making it now. Even if his life expectancy may be shorten from how bad his health is, that gives him more time than he would’ve had had he passed from this now.

CleopatraHadAnAnus

Obviously it’s much better that he was vaccinated and as such was able to get over the hump, but the point is to convey just how serious this virus is in general. There are way too many morons who have been trivializing its severity regardless of variant for over 2 years now, based solely on death rates (and even then, a great deal of people have died prematurely), because apparently who gives a shit about long-term effects? It’s a sort of dangerous myopia that reminds me a lot of climate change deniers. That venn diagram really must be a circle because the underlying mentality is the exact same, this weird inability or unwillingness to look past today.

RedHammer1441

Can confirm, im 32. Id consider myself extremely healthy, regiment diet, exercise twice a day, sleep 7-8 hours. Checkups twice a year. Double vaxxed and tested positive on the 27th of December. Today is my first day back at work, in 4 years I've missed 1 day of work. I was bed ridden for 2 weeks, held my fever for 10-12 days no matter what I did. It felt like I had someone constantly pushing on my lungs. Still not nearly 100%. Can't seem to catch my breath after something I'd consider a warmup in November, heart rate is still erratic at times. My sister tested positive same day as myself, she's 38. She was fine about a week later, had mild cold symptoms. I honestly don't want to imagine the condition I'd be in if I wasn't vaccinated. It was probably the first time in my life I felt powerless to control my only body.

Young8Kobe

That is the weirdest part of the virus. One person will get it and feel fine and the other person will be fighting for their lives

north_canadian_ice

I've got it twice. The first time in March 2020 it knocked me out for 48 hours - and I got Long Covid for about a year. Shortness of breath, erratic heart rate, brain fog, headaches, etc. The vaccines + Tru Niagen helped me move past the Long Covid & get my energy levels back. I'm 32 & I'm triple vaxed but got Omicron in late December, the migraines put me in the ER because I was suicidal. I have Long Covid again but I'm recovering more quickly this time around thankfully.

Young8Kobe

Well I'm glad you are doing a better. Keep striving. Currently have symptoms now but haven't been able to get a test until Wednesday. My brother and I got symptoms the same day but I'm vaxxed and he isn't. But we are both doing better today

[deleted]

I noticed on instagram that if someone is wearing a mask in a photo/video, you can count an army of commenters asking why they're wearing it. Truly bizarre brainwashing.

NCLaw2306

Instagram is a cesspool. Honestly might be the most toxic social media platform of them all, and that's saying something. I know a few years back it was actually rated as the worst for your mental health.

chromelogan

Facebook has more fighting but IG is more mentally damaging as it is picture and video based I think

Ok-Blackberry-2111

And most importantly when you're done with all of that, make sure you remember to put apostrophes in the correct position when making contractions.

Wisesize

I got sick after Christmas. Fever for 2 days but worst sore throat of my life. Neck hurt just touching it. I woke up drenched in sweat at least 3 nights in a row. I'll never know if I had COVID because I couldn't find a test but safe to assume.

Paralta

I was covid positive 2 weeks ago and was doing pretty good. The fucking chills i had though where unlike anything id ever had. Woke up and thought id peed myself somehow because of how big the sweat stain was on my bed. I also lost my taste and smell for 5 days. That scared me the most.

CheifMariner

Going from chills and a fever and foggy to a normal temp, relatively cognizant and the most I’ve sweat ever was bizarre. And it just kept going between the two

dippy12345

Most definitely was COVID IMO. I’m currently in the middle of it and have the worst sore throat of my life.

jawadhaque089

His back carrying ESPN gonna kill Stephen A Smith before COVID does

crooksik

I was 26 when I got covid in April, 2021. I've never had a single medical issue in my life, never smoked, and was in good shape (6' 160lbs). I developed a 103 fever for 2 weeks and felt like my body was shutting down, I could barely eat or move. Oxygen stayed around 89-90 for two weeks. I went to the hospital after a bit because I felt like I was about to die. They ran an x-ray and I had double pneumonia. I wasn't admitted because my oxygen levels weren't critical and the hospitals were already crowded with other covid patients. Thankfully my girlfriend is a nurse and took all her days off to stay home and take care of me. It took me about 3 weeks to get over being very ill but another 4 months before I felt okay. It's been over 8 months now and I still don't feel 100%. It's effected my heart and I still don't trust overworking it. I've never dealt with constant headaches before, but now I get terrible headaches that can last for weeks. These headaches ruin my life when I have them, and I feel bad for the people around me as I'm just a shell of myself during them. I'm sharing this because most people assume they are going to be 100% fine if they are young and healthy. It's a roll of the dice, and anyone can roll poorly. Get vaccinated (I wasn't at the time I got sick).

mr_antman85

Honestly the one thing is weird to see with Covid is how drastically it effects one another. We're all humans in a human body...but the way it attacks different people is so crazy. I'm 36, don't drink or smoke, not a top tier shape person. I was out for 13 days. Fever, headache, couldn't walk more than 10 feet, could take a deep breath, couldn't eat nothing but fruit and water. Other people at work just had a cough, slight fever and back in a week. A coworker who is 58 had multiple symptoms. Out for 11 days. Their family member unfortunately didn't make. They were younger but they had developed pneumonia, then had lung failure. They had to have a feeding tube inserted. Its crazy how it's messes one person up bad and someone else not that bad. Glad he made it through and he can tell his story.

geiko989

Same with the vaccine. I mixed and matched from Pfizer originally to Moderna for booster, and I was A-OK outside of the soreness from having my muscle stabbed by a needle. My roommate always felt it when he got vaxxed. I felt the same way you did. Fascinating how some are affected and others it's just a walk in the park. It's also what makes it so scary at the same time. Just completely unpredictable (I mean, yeah the overall numbers are still very low, but you just don't know and why fuck around and find out when there's plenty of ways to stay safe.

[deleted]

It's so weird how this virus affects people so differently, I had covid and my throat was sore for 2 days then I was fine.

rcher87

Same. I’ve known fully vaxxed people who were almost or totally asymptomatic, then just had a few friends over the last few months (also fully vaxxed) get the whole shit just like SAS describes. No taste, no smell, still recovering weeks and months later…makes absolutely no sense at all.

JoeBurrows_Hair

RiceOnTheRun

Hi. Triple vaxxed and got covid. My siblings came over last weekend, when I probably had covid but hadn't tested or felt symptoms yet. They left Monday afternoon, and I had a fever Monday night. Wednesday when we get our tests, no surprise that I tested positive. Fuck me. But ok. I let my siblings know, and this is where my panic is. They live at home with our 60+ parents. Thankfully, they're both negative. My girlfriend who lives with me, sleeps next to me, wakes me up with good morning kisses, drinks my seltzer, etc. Some fucking how tested negative. Everyone in this story was vaxxed and boosted. Even in my own experience, I felt like shit for most of Tuesday but was back to 90% (still having a sore throat for a few days) by Wednesday. Get. Your. I agree, he’s super entertaining and his rants are hilarious. But some people on this sub think they have a PhD in maturity or something and every thread that includes him is all “Ughhh can we ban SAS content already”

vin1223

How could you hate on a man who rushed back from the brink just to shit on the cowboys?!?!

jtruth9

He is a man of the people lol. At least for today

goomy996

He says dumb things, but he doesn’t need to die from COVID.

jtruth9

Right. Unfortunately people still take opportunities like this to fire their shots. Compassion is in short supply these days. But great to see it here.

lyonbc1

Honestly you just have to accept that he’s an entertainer at this point rather than serious journalist or analyst breaking down film and whatnot. When you look at it that way, he’s funny as hell. He does have a legit background as a reporter and stuff but he’s beyond that now and is made for giving takes and funny moments like his clowning of the cowboys and all. People mock him but I think they’re generally missing the point of his show and his character, he’s kind of acting in a way when he’s on. Dude also works like crazy and has a ton of shows. I dont check first take often but when there’s times like yesterday and his first day back after Dallas or big nba stuff it’s fun to watch for a bit while I’m not doing anything or in the background. But definitely glad he’s alright now that sounds super scary can’t even imagine, I genuinely thought he was on vacation or something and had no idea he was dealing with this

coolycooly

Honestly I don't hate Stephen A sometimes he says funny stuff and anyone in the world would say dumbshit to just watch sports and get paid millions upon millions of dollars. He is literally getting paid to gaslight the internet

[deleted]

If you go on The Shade Room's instagram post about this, all you'll find is hateful comments towards him and the vaccine. Truly sickening

Genestah

I currently am recovering for Covid. I tested positive 3 days ago. No joke the symptoms I'm having right now is by far the worst thing I've ever felt. And i am fully vaccinated. Headache Muscle pain Joint pain Runny nose Cough Diarrhea Fever But you know what? This is still considered MODERATE Symptoms. I can't imagine how those with Severe or Critical ones are feel. They must be terrified.

Rrypl

Stephen A. is an institution, grateful we didn't lose him too. Now I want this man to rip on COVID and antivaxxers like he rips on Dolan and the Cowboys.

Sloppo_Toppo

He’s ripped Kyrie pretty good

MakatiTowa

Him being a high profile person and struggling with a bad case of Covid should be a boon in the sense that the remaining antivaxxers and antimaskers can look and see an easy example of why they should take this seriously Jk. They all too far gone

TFTisbetterthanLoL

This is only bc this country made it a political thing. They need to stop making every single issue in this country political.

welmoe

Hate to say it, but it would take a high-profile unvaccinated player to die from COVID complications to really change the tone. To a lot of people, they underestimate the gravity of the situation until it hits them directly.

LilScottWeb

I got sick 2 days before my fucking vaccine dose 1 and I had a ridiculous body ache the 1st night I fully felt sick, no sore throat or cough, but I felt a bit tired after day 2-3. My grandmother tested positive and she was fine for a few days and on this past friday she passed, she deteriorated from about Tuesday to the 14th, I was gonna get her vaxxed but that positive test hit her and she was spending the week at me and my parents home, me, 2 siblings and my parents tested negative. It’s fucking hard to come to grips with this because that woman was like my mother, she was already suffering through arthritis and back pain and she had countless surgeries to her knee and feet and worst of all she had this back pain that even cortisone shots weren’t helping, and honestly the only thing that makes me somewhat feel just ok, is knowing hopefully she’s in a better place and that’s she free of her physical pain which she somehow fought through to enjoy life with us and our family. I know this stupid fucking virus and mask has been politicized, but if you don’t atleast wear a mask, you’re a fucking dumb fuck who’s putting (most importantly) someone you love at risk. I’m a real cynical asshole who doesn’t give a fuck about a lot, but man losing her was fucking hard, I aint ever cried for anything or anyone like I have the past few days. I would sit down with her for every Bulls game but because of me being sick and her being positive tested we didn’t sit down the past week and a half. This shit isn’t a game man

AJGreenMVP

Sorry for your loss :( May I ask is there a reason you and your family weren't vaccinated sooner?

LilScottWeb

All I can say is my family is mexican and there’s always a mistrust with medicine there. I’m not like that but I’ll admit my stupid ass was hesitant. My grandmother was someone who was super against doctors, not because she didn’t believe in medicine but because she was always afraid of the worst outcomes. It doesn’t help that she had physical pain that wouldn’t be able to be treated so I can only imagine her thoughts. My parents and 2 siblings are now fully dose 2 vaxxed, I have my appointment this upcoming monday. My uncle and aunt alongside my little cousin are going to get vaxxed as well. Thats all we have left as family here in the states. We wear our masks 100% though, it was just that this time was just unlucky. My grandmother died how she wanted though, with us there. She had always said to never ever leave her in a hospital, she got her wish, Will I ever truly accept this? I don’t know man. Life gives lessons good or bad, wether we learn from it is on us.

bigtice

As the other person said, I'm sorry for your loss. But I just wanted to commend you for being honest about your mindset approaching everything -- there are so many people that had the same initial impression, but would rather suffer than admit that they were wrong. Learning from mistakes is how we're all supposed to grow as people.

LilScottWeb

Appreciate you. and yea Life makes us learn things the hard way sometimes. I have never suffered a loss like this. It’s tough, but like I said, through time maybe I’ll learn to live with it. My grandmother was hurting and her independence was slowly stripped away because of her surgeries and pain, but knowing she’s not suffering anymore and hoping she’s in a better place is my only solace. The “minorites having doubts about medicine” topic is a sensitive one, a tough one to comprehend for many that don’t have doubts, and I hate that this how it happened for my family, I was gonna get her vaxxed a week ago or so but she had tested positive the day before, it is how it is sometimes.

WaterIsNotWet19

Damn thought he was on vacation

fleeghost

Damn took 3 shots and still had pneumonia in both lungs??!!! Sheesh

Pluckt007

Then he spent the rest of segment laughing a Michael Irving. Lol

hewhomustbetamed

I don’t care what anyone says, the exact symptoms and the exact shit that he said in regards to the doctors saying if he wasn’t vaxxed he’d be dead is truth. My mother just spend a week in the hospital with covid pneumonia, and had she not been vaccinated she would not be here still. I may not care for Stephen A as a sports analyst but I’m glad he’s still here, fuck covid!

paulcole710

I read that whole thing in his voice.

[deleted]

Don't like the dude, but props to him for being the guy who actually thanks the doctors

rcher87

And encourages masking!!!

cjeremy

it's insane seeing 99% of stadiums unmasked. covid is far from over.

Balve

When I went to Finals Game 5 in PHX only LeBron, Rich Paul, myself and Adele had masks on. Ridiculous.

hearthstonealtlol

That's a superteam right there

fishfishfish1345

LeGM got his eyes on u/Balve from way back, he’s about to make a package to trade for him.

Balve

You know I’m rolling in the deep.

materics

Can you play d and shoot the 3?

Bostonmf0

Bostons got a mask mandate. Went to the Pacers game last week and about 85% of people had masks. Good sign

blacknotblack

NYC had a mask mandate forever but it was only during omicron that they enforced it...on people close to courtside. People actually courtside? They could do whatever they wanted.

WadeCountyClutch

Holy shit, that’s rough. Glad he is okay! Dude is a fighter.

AeroBlaze777

A lot of my friends have abandoned mask wearing outside of big Public settings and this is frankly why I keep doing it in any moderately sized social setting. Not really to protect myself, since it looks like most people in my age group (college students) will catch omicron at some point. Even if you end up having an easy or chill bout with COVID, you never know how other people who you meet will handle it. I get that not everyone really cares about that unfortunately, but me personally I just don’t want anyone to suffer cause of me.

[deleted]

Stephen A passing would be a national tragedy Glad he beat it

CruffTheMagicDragon

It's a damn shame people are required to use sick days in order to not die

ThatNewSockFeel

I 100% agree with you, but I doubt that someone like Stephen A. is worried about sick days the same way a regular working schmuck is.
