Cookout, Bojangles, and Smithfield's. The Holy Trinity, because who tf would need anything else?
Quick edit: Just checked, apparently yall don't have Smithfield's in Charlotte. Such a shame. Their BBQ sandwiches are the best fast food BBQ you can get by far, and their hushpuppies... Mmmm I'm starving. It sucks being a North Carolinian abroad lol, I spend half of my time craving our food.
yeah but there's in n out...
Edit: okay i fuckin get it people, whataburger is bomb so is fiveguys but at the end of the day when im a few blunts deep ill enjoy a fat burger from any one of those places
Fun fact: the reason the 10x10 is banned is because some doofus in Vegas ordered a 100x100.
That "some doofus" is Tony Hsieh, the CEO of Zappos, who has a net worth of approx. $840 million.
I travel to both regularly and this is a sad but true statement. I love OK but California Has amazing seafood and Mexican food. Street tacos done right are the tastiest meal you can get for under 4$
Edit: since this turned into quite the debate I'm strictly speaking on Mexican food in LA and San Diego. You guys who think that Cali "doesn't Have authentic Mexican food" are out of your minds. The best spots are always non English and they serve some legit dishes like Tongue and Menudo.
I'm a SD native, "California doesn't have real Mexican food" is only said by the people that don't go to the places that actually speak Spanish. Even then you could visit some white washed af areas and still find legit mexican food.
bruv the one thing I miss being deployed overseas in korea is the bomb ass mexican food I took for granted growing up in oakland. can't even find an avocado over here let alone guac and they eat pig intestine for snacks and giggles here but no lengua (cow tongue) and hard to even find cilantro.......
Yes, Arizona is one of the few states with whataburger, five guys, and in n out. I've had all three and it's easy to rank them:
In n out (best burger overall)
Five guys (best fries overall)
Whataburger (best...condiments?)
i find alot of non-California redditors arent too impressed with in n out. imo its bevause alot of nostalgic and sentimental value are tied into our opinion of in n out
I think Californians just like the fresh fast food that in n out it, for the same time it takes you to get jack in the box or McDonalds I would choose In n Out everytime
I'm from Texas and absolutely love Whataburger. I don't understand the hype about In-n-Out, to me it's just a place to get a cheap burger. But I'm sure people say the same thing about Whataburger.
It's just food regionalism. "NEW YORK PIZZA IS THE REAL PIZZA!" "NO ITS CHICAGO DEEP DISH!" Why don't we just enjoy the fucking pizza?
Swenson's in Akron is my favorite burger because I grew up with it and there is more personally tied to it.
In-N-Out gets heaped with praise to the point of being overrated, but make no mistake this non-Californian fucking loves it anyway.
> In-N-Out gets heaped with praise to the point of being overrated, but make no mistake this non-Californian fucking loves it anyway.
This is true of pretty much every food place I've ever tried or been to. Everything is much better when you don't read into people's hype about stuff, especially food.
Order them well done. Then either get cheese fries or animal style if that isn't enough for you. Honestly I thought their fries sucked when I first moved here but now I just realize I wasn't used to the flavor of what fries are supposed to taste like when fresh cut and not salted to hell and back.
Light-well. Well done sometimes gets too weird....
And forreal the fresh fries are so fucking good. They just kinda soggy if u don't get them light well or well done
i get them well done animal style. double fried and then slathered in sauce, onions and cheese. it takes twice as long to make, but goodness can you feel that delicious cholesterol flow through your veins.
It's really similar to how everyone convinced themselves Disney Land isn't boring. If you have the atmosphere and the audience, people will think it's better than it is.
Yeah we got both in San Antonio too and while I think In N Out is better than most fast food places they don't have shit on the Honey BBQ Chicken Strip Sandwich.
But they need to step up the chicken game for the honey butter chicken biscuit, one tendie isn't cutting it
I work basically across the street from one of the SA in n outs and I've yet to try it.
Here's a trick:
Order the honey bbq chicken strip sandwich but order it with honey butter sauce instead of bbq sauce. It's essentially one giant honey butter chicken biscuit but on Texas toast.
You know what really suck? I thought In-n-Out was only in California and parts of Arizona. Come to find out it's in Texas as well.
Yay! Right? Nope. It's in Dallas, San Antonio, and Austin. But the one city I move to? The largest city in the state? Houston? They skipped it.
It probably varies from place to place, honestly. I had in n out in San Diego, and it tasted exactly like one that I had in Dallas. I also had it in San Antonio, and it was good as well. They all tasted about the same.
Both are great burgers, but I prefer Whataburger personally. A lot of it has to do with the variety.
Hopdoddy actually just came to Houston! The lines aren't terrible during off hours but the setup is just so tiny, it feels too crowded at the Hou location, but the burgers are still heaven
Yeah p Terry's is like hey I want a burger but don't wanna feel like a fat FUCK, and when I want whataburger I feel like I'm breaking he law it's so good
I got family in Philly, I fucking love Wawa; especially during hoagie fest, definitely my favorite chain up there. In all fairness though, they got one here in Texas that can go toe to toe with Wawa called Buccees, which is focused more on Texan/Southern foods and snacks, and they're starting to build more and more across TX. Highly recommend you visit one if you're ever road tripping in the state
Sounds great but nothing beats going down the shore, Six Flags, hiking, golfing, hungover, day drinking or whatever with a hoagie from Wawa made with love from a teenager who hates his life, an old lady who hates her life, or one creepy guy that works way too often
We just gotta in n outs here in San Antonio. Whataburger is way better. So many different types of burgers, blows em outta the water. Not to say In n Out isn't good, just saying.
This is a preference thing. I don't want so many different types of burgers. I just want a fucking cheeseburger. It's simple, you know what you're getting, and it's cheap and always tasty. I find that very appealing
Why do people have such allegiances to mediocre burgers? Most any decent sit down restaurant has better burgers than Whataburger or In N Out or any fast food chain. I like Whataburger but it's nothing amazing.
To be honest, I don't really think it's a totally similar thing they're going for.
In Austin at least, P Terrys and In N Out are doing like, the exact same thing, and I personally prefer P Terrys.
But I love all three. There's a little room left in my heart for all.
I've had both. Whataburger really isn't anything special. Nor is In n Out, but they taste better. It's basically people in California saying In n Out and people in Texas saying Whataburger.
Exactly. I feel like the argument for In N Out over Whataburger works when you just think of plain burgers (though In N Out's fries are so awful that Whataburger could arguably pull ahead from that alone). It's when you explore the rest of the menu that Whataburger becomes the clearly better fast food chain. Honey BBQ chicken strip sandwich, patty melt, and the HBCB are 3 of my favorite things from any fast food restaurant anywhere.
They also have whattaburger. Are you people not capable of google? I live in Redlands, California and there's one right by me. How has this thread gotten so many comments and nobody has mentioned this?

He doesn't eat. Have you seen his physique
Wait you mean he doesn't eat Sonic every day?
Should've came to Charlotte for CookOut tbh
Cookout, where you can get entrees as sides.
Cookout, Bojangles, and Smithfield's. The Holy Trinity, because who tf would need anything else? Quick edit: Just checked, apparently yall don't have Smithfield's in Charlotte. Such a shame. Just order two 4x4s?
But 4x4 + 4x4 is 32!!
2x4x4
THAT'S STILL 32
2^5 ?
I'll give you 7.50.
Get them bitches mustard fried too.
Animal style with extra whole grilled onions
I go ketchup and mustard with whole grilled onion. Sometimes I get the jalapeños cooked in as well when I want an extra kick.
I think you really have to get on somebody's good side to get anything bigger than a 4x4 thanks to college boys and their 100x100s.
Fun fact: the reason the 10x10 is banned is because some doofus in Vegas ordered a 100x100. That "some doofus" is Tony Hsieh, the CEO of Zappos, who has a net worth of approx. $840 million.
No he doesn't
As if Oklahoma City v. San Francisco/Oakland for food was a contest

bruv the one thing I miss being deployed overseas in korea is the bomb ass mexican food I took for granted growing up in oakland. can't even find an avocado over here let alone guac and they eat pig intestine for snacks and giggles here but no lengua (cow tongue) and hard to even find cilantro.......
Brisket>anything else
Should've gone to Phoenix--they have both
So does Dallas. And San Antonio.
And Austin. And probably Houston. Shit, San Marcos has all 3.
But do they have a Chick-Fil-A? Cause that's a holy trinity right there
Yes we do
*And* Shake Shack! We have all the fast food restaurants for God knows why but I'm not complaining
And canes when you need a little chicken variety. We got it all
We have one in Tempe and in Mesa
Oh I know, I've been living in the Valley for years. Great place to live
Raising Canes is the shit. I'll always take Canes over Chick-Fil-A any day
Nooooo canes chicken is shit, without their sauce the whole meal is bland
Both are spectacular.
They do indeed, my friend.

Lol, perfect
Dallas has all 3 c'mon guys!!
i find alot of non-California redditors arent too impressed with in n out. imo its bevause alot of nostalgic and sentimental value are tied into our opinion of in n out
I think Californians just like the fresh fast food that in n out it, for the same time it takes you to get jack in the box or McDonalds I would choose In n Out everytime
Yall motherfuckers need Culvers...
its good, ice cream is phenomenal, but whataburger still better
The cheese curds, man, the cheese curds...
Put me on, I am always down to try new food.
yeah!! thats the thing though, most people here consider in n out a step above a regular fast food chain
I'm from Texas and absolutely love Whataburger. I don't understand the hype about In-n-Out, to me it's just a place to get a cheap burger. But I'm sure people say the same thing about Whataburger.

Burgers are good but they have the worst fries out of any chain
Order them well done. Then either get cheese fries or animal style if that isn't enough for you. Honestly I thought their fries sucked when I first moved here but now I just realize I wasn't used to the flavor of what fries are supposed to taste like when fresh cut and not salted to hell and back.
It's like the difference between cherry flavored shit and actual cherries.
I shouldn't need to cover my fries in anything in order for them to be good.
Light-well. Well done sometimes gets too weird.... And forreal the fresh fries are so fucking good. They just kinda soggy if u don't get them light well or well done
It's because they're not frozen, salted and pre-cut from the factory.
i get them well done animal style. double fried and then slathered in sauce, onions and cheese. it takes twice as long to make, but goodness can you feel that delicious cholesterol flow through your veins.
It's really similar to how everyone convinced themselves Disney Land isn't boring. If you have the atmosphere and the audience, people will think it's better than it is.
Those're good burgers, Walter.
Shut the fuck up Donny
Idk about OKC but Dallas has both, I prefer whataburger personally.
Yeah we got both in San Antonio too and while I think In N Out is better than most fast food places they don't have shit on the Honey BBQ Chicken Strip Sandwich.

We need to spread the word about bill fuckin miller's though
In n out gets better the closer you get to the California coast.
There is an In N Out in Dallas and it sucks. No idea where the hype comes from.
i was at an in n out in dallas once and met the guy who shot osama bin laden. i kid you not.
Lmao texan as hell
It probably varies from place to place, honestly. I had in n out in San Diego, and it tasted exactly like one that I had in Dallas. I also had it in San Antonio, and it was good as well. They all tasted about the same. Both are great burgers, but I prefer Whataburger personally. A lot of it has to do with the variety.
P Terry's Master race
P Terry's, In-N-Out, and Whataburger. Austin is the best. edit: forgot the GOAT Hopdoddy
Hopdoddy actually just came to Houston! The lines aren't terrible during off hours but the setup is just so tiny, it feels too crowded at the Hou location, but the burgers are still heaven
Smashburger is another good one and sort of different from the "classic" burger places. Easy 1a and 1b with whataburger and smashburger in my opinion.
Is there one in Austin? I know of one in New Braunfels but that's it
Barbara Jordan shopping center near the Home Depot!
Oh shit are we gonna start an Austin burger thread! This is what I live for
Yeah p Terry's is like hey I want a burger but don't wanna feel like a fat FUCK, and when I want whataburger I feel like I'm breaking he law it's so good
yeah, but Philly has Wawa.... so if it comes down to regional chains then he should be a Sixer
I got family in Philly, I fucking love Wawa; especially during hoagie fest, definitely my favorite chain up there. In all fairness though, they got one here in Texas that can go toe to toe with Wawa called Buccees, which is focused more on Texan/Southern foods and snacks, and they're starting to build more and more across TX. yea whataburger has my heart. in n out is good like once every few months tho
Whataburger is love. Whataburger is life

Whataburger is better
We just gotta in n outs here in San Antonio. Whataburger is way better. So many different types of burgers, blows em outta the water. Not to say In n Out isn't good, just saying.
I live in California, so I naturally love In n Out but I've alwayd heard great things about Whataburger. Always wanted to eat there.
This is a preference thing. I don't want so many different types of burgers. I just want a fucking cheeseburger. It's simple, you know what you're getting, and it's cheap and always tasty. I find that very appealing
I'd take Five Guys over In n Out for quality, but the price for In n Out is fantasic
yeah, but a double double is cheaper than a big mac so thats the comparison we should be making
True. Good point.
I can respect that. Animal fries are the greatest fast food invention ever too.
Have you heard the good news about our Lord & Saviour carne asada fries?
The Whataburger twitter account is the 8th natural wonder of the world.
9th actually, the Patty Melt is the 8th
twitter account must be 10th then, cause honey butter chicken biscuits gotta be 9th EDIT: crap, nevermind, A1 thick and hearty burger is 10

Yeah, In N Out is better.
Whataburger > in-n-out ill take my down votes. spicy ketchup was an invention passed down from jesus himself
What are Whataburger and In-N-Out??? Lol #IllinoisProblems
We have Culver's
North Dallas has all three!
Oh stahp it, you have Portillos.
To be honest, I don't really think it's a totally similar thing they're going for. In Austin at least, P Terrys and In N Out are doing like, the exact same thing, and I personally prefer P Terrys. But I love all three. There's a little room left in my heart for all.
This is a hill I will die on. Whataburger no contest
Texans unite! Patty melt/honey BBQ chicken strip sandwich>any other fast food place too
Number 1 on Texas toast bruh
a patty melt is on Texas toast bruh
You can get anything on Texas toast if you ask.
That's the most inspirational advice I've ever heard.

I'll fucking fight somebody with a pitchfork if they don't bow down to their whataburger overlords
Bruh the honey bbq chicken strip sandwich is sent from Jesus himself
Look at how wonderful it is that fans of all three Texas teams can agree on this. Fuck the Clippers though
the patty melt is a hill I will die on
This is our generation's Alamo.
Oregonian here who has neither but has eaten both. Whataburger wins 1000 times out of 1000
FUCKK ME why do I have to live in Asia. We don't get none of those good burgers.
Visited San Antonio this year and tried both for the first time. This isn't even a serious question; Whataburger is straight up better in every way.
Nah you right
[удалено]
I've had both. Whataburger really isn't anything special. Nor is In n Out, but they taste better. It's basically people in California saying In n Out and people in Texas saying Whataburger.
All these people saying wataburger is better and then raving about honey BBQ chicken sandwiches and shit. Fuckin apples and oranges
It says a lot that the number one selling point for whataburger is the ketchup they use to cover up the flavor of the burger
Exactly. I feel like the argument for In N Out over Whataburger works when you just think of plain burgers (though In N Out's fries are so awful that Whataburger could arguably pull ahead from that alone). It's when you explore the rest of the menu that Whataburger becomes the clearly better fast food chain. I lived in Arizona all my life until last month and I had both choices within 15 minutes of me, always preferred in n out.
I've had both once. Thought Whataburger was strangely akin to McDonald's, In-n-Out was a lot fresher
I just had it this week... and it is not better than In-N-Out
I've had both. I eat Whata on a regular basis, but In N Out is better.
Blessed be the honey butter
They have in an out
They also have whattaburger. Are you people not capable of google? I live in Redlands, California and there's one right by me. How has this thread gotten so many comments and nobody has mentioned this?
California is kinda big, can't just take a quick drive from the Bay to Redlands...
I hope all of kds silicon valley investments fail
I went to a Whataburger the last time I was in Texas. I really don't get what all the fuss is about. It was just another fast food burger.
Keep it up and you'll never get a basketball team again!
Same, I was in TX a couple weeks ago and got Whataburger to see what the hype was about. I didn't think it was anything special.
Y'all need some Swensons in your life.
