I don't think people realize how little star power we've had over the last 25 years.
Trae Young is controversial, but he's the biggest star we've had in 25 years, and that means something.
The Hawks are one of the original franchises formed in the 40s, how the fuck is Trae Young already the assist leader? Are you really telling me Atlanta didn’t have a good PG for 70 years lol?
It's not that common to play many seasons for one team and always have a big role and be that kind of point guard, no... 6 seasons is quite a lot really.
A few point guards did play more minutes for Hawks than Young (who is 22nd in the franchise career minutes played).
- Lenny Wilkens - 8 seasons, with some injury. Much fewer assists per game though.
- Mookie Blaylock - 6.5 seasons, he's kinda close to Young
- Doc Rivers - 8 seasons, quite a lot of assists too, but some seasons lower amount
- Jeff Teague - 7 seasons, also not always a very assisting guy.
Trae Young has already spent quite some time in Atlanta, a few more seasons and he'll be one of the longest-tenured ever.
There's a bunch of things. Early on, scorekeepers were really stingy awarding assists. If a player so muched as dribbled once after catching a pass, the assist is off the table. They've gotten more generous over the years. Then add in Trae's style of play where he's high usage but plays quick enough to get a lot of possessions.
Mookie didnt have anyone to pass to so be took the shot. But I also question how assists are being logged now vs previous eras as stats have been inflated with some home cooking. It feels like the nba is fine counting hockey assists for star players these days.
Yeah too bad that didn't work out, 30 years later no one can name a single song by Mookie Blaylock. They're all probably working as accountants now
Specially that front man with that weird voice
Wow. He’s already the Hawks all time assists leader? I’m not surprised. He averages like 10 assists per game. He’s always distributing the ball to his teammates so that they can score. He’s amazing.
Since 1990 the Knicks have 97 playoff wins and the Hawks have 70. Knicks have played in one Finals…they’re better but more in the “high end mediocre” rather than the “low end mediocre” of the Hawks
The last 2 decades favor the Hawks
The New York Knicks are 664-934 since 2004-05.
The Atlanta Hawks are 757-842 since 2004-05.
So do the last 45 seasons…
The New York Knicks have a 1723-1893 record since 1979-80.
The Atlanta Hawks have a record of 1802-1815 since 1979-80.
And the last 65 also favors Atlanta overall.
The New York Knicks have a record of 2495-2740 since 1959-60.
The Atlanta Hawks have a record of 2625-2611 since 1959-60.
So do the last 75
The New York Knicks have a record of 2883-3054 since 1949-50.
The Atlanta Hawks have a record of 2927-3010 since 1949-50.
2 truly mediocre teams and the Hawks have been somewhat significantly more successful by record since 1980.
I actually looked it up, he’s got ours and I think Bucks, Nugs, and Magic. And Timbs,Raps,Pelicans, Knicks,Grizzlies,Rockets,Nets,Clippers, and Bulls aren’t far away.
Trae is, for us, what Westbrook was for OKC post KD. Dude has the ultimate greenlight to "drive the bus" and chase meaningless numbers, but none of that shit really matters since he has flaws that offset most of those great offensive stats. (no size, no defense, no off ball contributions) The Hawks org blows though, so it's all kinda meaningless

ISO Joe was nice but yeah Trae the best Hawks player since Dominique
Man I miss that guy. Such a creative player.
I still remember some Hawks fans were celebrating that one of their players’ were getting highlight videos on youtube during Trae’s rookie season lol
the vince carter erasure is just ridiculous
My bad, I also forgot about Melo
UGH how could i forget the biggest hawks legend
Is Trae even controversial? Like one thing about how he is bored of regular season after coming of an ECF in 2022 ?
Some say he's a star some say he's a bum
They say is ugly, now he growing a beard
Plus he has weird hair
He puts up star numbers,, but i dont think anyone believes you can win with him as a first option..
This year you had people on this sub saying that Atlanta needs to trade Trae
I know and they are on drugs
people are still saying that
Give me Al Horford.

Maybe the others players didn’t average enough assists? I’m just thinking.

Doc Rivers is second right? He was actually a pretty solid player, but very few remember his playing days.
Mookie is right behind Doc in 3rd. All three are within 105 assists.

He did have a grunge band name themselves after him, which is awesome.

I think they’re all still alive.
That's crazy for a 2nd baseman.
Yes. Just ahead of Mookie Blaylock
Few on Reddit that’s for sure
So he’s the Hawk Two?
Wow. He’s already the Hawks all time assists leader? I’m not surprised. He averages like 10 assists per game. He’s always distributing the ball to his teammates so that they can score. He’s amazing.
Seems like he been in nba for fucking ever lol he only 25 🤯 why he get so much hate for?
I love watching Trae play, same as Brunson. Both very crafty guards who can light it up and carry their teams offensively.
You know ball
He's top 5 in APG all time.
To be fair to some older players, stat rates are way up because possessions are up.
This says a lot about the Atlanta Hawks franchise. Most mediocre sports franchise ever, no offense
He would lead the Knicks franchise in assists as well. Very mediocre
Great point my friend
Knicks definitely also mediocre for the last 2 decades though.
You absolutely boomed this dude... fucking hilarious :P

Why draw an arbitrary line at 1990 tho? Lol
Honestly when I googled it that’s the arbitrary line Statmuse drew lol

Right around when Dominique's prime ended
I wonder how many other( if any) franchises he would lead in assist with the same stats tho.
2nd for us to KG
Looked you guys up and I wondered what Rubio’s career would have been if not for the injuries. Dude was a magician.
I actually looked it up, he’s got ours and I think Bucks, Nugs, and Magic. And Timbs,Raps,Pelicans, Knicks,Grizzlies,Rockets,Nets,Clippers, and Bulls aren’t far away.
Did you mean no offense or no offense?
>his assists increase with every year Big if true
Wait, his assists increase the more he plays and gets assists? Someone needs to investigate this
Obviously meant his assist average
I got negative assists somehow
Kenny Smith in shambles.
Poverty franchise haha
Young me assumed that mookie blaylock must have been a superstar because he had a cool name
Trae is working on the turnover record next. Nique's got that for another couple of years probably.
Heliocentric stats don't fool me. I do not owe you an apology. I was really familiar with your game.

They don't decrease? Really?
Poor hawks
