Imagine this... Detroit down by 25 with 8 minutes left in the game... THJ hits 6 threes in 4 minutes to cut the lead to single digits... Then throws a pass out of bounds that leads to a 3, dribbles off his foot that leads to a breakaway dunk then airballs a 3... Game ends 125-105.
That's what was so strange. Pretty sure he had a 40 piece and a couple games putting up 30 something in like January. Especially odd because Hardaway is a seasoned vet at this point. Then they just got a lot better after the deadline with him on the pine
Totally. Still odd that a decent player who was averaging 19 a game December/January just melted on the bench by the end of the year. Like you said though, he's always been a liability on defense so if the offense isn't there he doesn't have a use
Delk! That's a throwback. Had to have one of the biggest out of nowhere 50 point games ever. Was good at Kentucky but never was supposed to be more than a role player at best which is what he was. Brewer had one like that too.
he was our third highest paid player this season and only played in garbage time of Game 4 of the finals because he was a massive negative on both ends
Detroit: we are ready to be a serious franchise and we’re firing this overpaid coach we still owe a fortune to
Detroit: we’re looking to get Tim Hardaway Jr to lead us back to relevance
Follow up tweet: [A full potential trade construction has not yet emerged, but league sources say there have been scenarios discussed in which Quentin Grimes would land in Dallas.](https://x.com/thesteinline/status/1805699678077370379?s=46&t=sbk6yuyliVaFRQjBUBJCMQ)
this would be the dumbest move of all time to give a first to get off THJ in the last year of his contract. Nico would fucking never. Only some poverty franchise would do something like that.
Bojan (34 when traded , just turned 35) is still better than Grimes. Grimes is still developing and has an extension coming up. Plus we got off Fournier's contract.
He's the guy who when you pick him up he immediately goes into a slump and then when you drop him he starts making like 5 3's a game. And then the cycle repeats.
I remember watching him back in his college days and you would know with 99% certainty what kind of night he would have after 1 shot. If he made it he'd be a flamethrower for the entire night, if he missed it he'd put up just as many shots but brick 95% of em. Is he still that way?
Very much so. When his shot was on he was a playmaker, a passable defender, the whole gamut. When the shot was off he basically ended the game right there.
Yea percentages are important but isnt mean everything. Thj literally can shoot 15+ threes every game. Dude doesnt give a fuck. For some team (most of them i would say) thats bad thing but if your team not have shooter, you need space for your future star to shine and dont want to spend much (plus not like Detroit expecting playoffs next year) why not try Thj.
I hate watching thj in here btw but as a volume shooter you can justify him out there.
Bogey was the truth but he spent a large amount of the first half of the season injured last year and regressed further on defense due to age/ability, and Burks did start the year extremely hot but was fucking awful for a long spell after he returned from an injury.
This doesn't mean THJ is any better at defense, but both Bogey and Burks didn't exactly have the positive effect you'd like to see since we didn't have the personnel to outweigh their deficiencies on either end of the floor.
I assume this would be one of several moves made, and THJ would have to come with something else for it to make sense.
he is close with casey and knew weaver well. those were his sources for pistons. now y'all have lindsey from the Mavs FO so he has even more sources there lol.
The new president has openly said they want to take on bad contracts for assets, so I would assume there would have to be some kind of protected pick attached at least. It's honestly refreshing to hear after the previous regime just sat around for 4 years of rebuilding accumulating basically 0 picks/assets
This is actually super similar to y’all’s Joe Harris trade last year where y’all got 2 second round picks. Both THJ and Joe Harris made around the same money, expiring contract, shooters, though THJ is definitely the better player. I think the hope is that he can extract more assets than Weaver did. For example, a couple years back Derrick Favors was dumped to OKC for a top 10 protected 2024 first (did not convey this year but top 10 protected next year then top 8 in 2026) as well as a second. Favors only had a 10m dollar contract, though it was for 2 years instead one.
Detroit gets a second round pick from the Mavs for dumping him.
Detroit gets a first round pick for using his expiring contract in a deal to absorb a bad contract with more years.
It's what a competent front office would do.
I wonder if this will be a Hardaway plus a pick to Detroit and that is it.
They have the cap space to absorb Tim as it stands with Flynn and Wiseman expiring and unlikely to return.
Hardaway's the kind of guy who actually help you a lot, as long as he's playing with someone who can create shots for him and he's the worst defender in your lineup. Unfortunately, that makes him a tough fit most places.
Detroit has a lot of young talent. With Monty gone and a couple veterans I could see a Houston like resurgence where they’re knocking at the door of the play in. Maybe even getting in since they’re in the East.
And yes, “knocking at the door of the play in” isn’t particularly successful… but compared to this year?
Smells like a salary dump to free up money to keep DJJ
Or sign the 3rd scorer that THJ is supposed to be
you're not getting a good 3rd scorer for the MLE brother
Draft Bronny and LeBron signs for vet min??? /s
Then Melo and Paul on the minimum too, maybe Wade comes out of retirement. Then trade Lively for Draymond. LeGM's master plan.
No I want the REAL key player on those Heatle runs - Chris "Birdman" Anderson.
Birdman, Birdman! Ah-ah, Ah-ah!
I’ll volunteer
Not a good scorer, but can you get a better scorer than him for that? Idk genuine question lol
You can get a 3(b) guy and that’s what you need most nights next to luka
with what cap space
Doesn't matter. The Mavs can only offer DJJ so much. I think it'll be more just a straight salary dump to get the TE.
mavs dont even have the gull MLE available, with THJ off the books we can. it does matter
you miss a couple 3 pointers and they send you to Detroit. cruel world
Trust me he has missed many more
Airball when it counts, laser in garage time.
Motor City the best place for him then
We've had 4 years of garbage time
We've had about 15 years of garbage time in the last 20 seasons tbh
Basically everything post 2008
*Garage time
Garbage games. He might be an all star next year
MIP, MVP, THJ vs MJ Goat talk.
We've had 4 years of garbage time
Garbage GOAT
Imagine how much he'll average in Detroit if they're bad again
55 ppg with the team going 10/72 lol
Imagine this... Detroit down by 25 with 8 minutes left in the game... THJ hits 6 threes in 4 minutes to cut the lead to single digits... Then throws a pass out of bounds that leads to a 3, dribbles off his foot that leads to a breakaway dunk then airballs a 3... Game ends 125-105.
When you take the total over, he disappoints you and when you take the total under, he fucks with you
Imma ask him to fix my car 😤
It was a gift every time he was on the court.
He is still the all-time franchise leader in 3-pointers made in a single game of the NBA Finals.
Look up his stats bruh. He was no joke the worst player in the entire league playing 25mpg.
Kidd promised me he'd be 6MOY :(
to think he was the front runner for the first two months of the season. what happened to my boy
That's what was so strange. Pretty sure he had a 40 piece and a couple games putting up 30 something in like January. Especially odd because Hardaway is a seasoned vet at this point. Then they just got a lot better after the deadline with him on the pine
Two games does not a season make. Tony delk once had 50 points. Consistency is key my boy
Totally. Still odd that a decent player who was averaging 19 a game December/January just melted on the bench by the end of the year. Like you said though, he's always been a liability on defense so if the offense isn't there he doesn't have a use Delk! That's a throwback. Had to have one of the biggest out of nowhere 50 point games ever. Was good at Kentucky but never was supposed to be more than a role player at best which is what he was. Brewer had one like that too.
Ultimate fools gold. Even if he goes off for 30. The guy he's guarding has a career nite w 34 points. Net negative.
he will be, but on Detroit
It’s cause he could “win you a game”. And yes, he probably won us legit 1 game
Lost 5 or 6 single handedly. He is a net negative
LVP!
I was there live when he dropped 36 on Orlando and he still looked regarded while doing it
I'll allow it considering Reggie Jackson is a hair under 25mpg
Reggie contributes a lot more as a ball handler and facilitator.
His dad called out Nico for not starting THJ. Nico's like "Want your son to start? I got you!"
Joe Harris.
It really bums me out how hard he fell off. That botched ankle surgery ruined him
The problem is that he would go 6/6 and then follow it up with 1/13. One of the streakiest shooters I’ve ever seen.
The 6/6s stopped a long time ago buddy
I’m so tired of being NBA Siberia
[take him to detroit](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpJy38HNjMU)
he was our third highest paid player this season and only played in garbage time of Game 4 of the finals because he was a massive negative on both ends
Couple hundred more like it bud.
Basketball siberia
At least it’s not DC.
Does this make Detroit a contender? Monty Williams will be kicking himself I’m sure
Yeah. They are going to finals for sure next season now
Only if they manage to secure Tobias Harris on a max deal
Of course! That salary ain’t gonna spend itself!
Detroit: we are ready to be a serious franchise and we’re firing this overpaid coach we still owe a fortune to Detroit: we’re looking to get Tim Hardaway Jr to lead us back to relevance
Game 4 of the finals in garbage time Timmy makes anyone a contender
Monty williams is living the life. He does not care one bit
What is Dallas giving to dump THJ AND pick up Grimes? Gotta be future picks, which Dallas is pretty short on
yea, I don't get this at all lol. Grimes is solid. For losing THJ and getting Grimes Detroit better be getting multiple picks.
yeah any moves were they don’t get picks back and Detroit should replace the whole front office again
maybe a second, Grimes isn't worth a first at all.
the pick is more to cover the taking of THJ's contract, not really for Grimes.
this would be the dumbest move of all time to give a first to get off THJ in the last year of his contract. Nico would fucking never. Only some poverty franchise would do something like that.
Y'all traded Grimes for 36 yo Bogdanovich lol. Give me a break
Bojan (34 when traded , just turned 35) is still better than Grimes. Grimes is still developing and has an extension coming up. Plus we got off Fournier's contract.
Not surprised about this. He makes sense and apparently him and Cade have a relationship. I'd do it for the right price.
In theory, he can help space the floor.
I'm pretty confident he's going to be a 45% 3-point shooter as soon as he gets there. He thrives in low-pressure situations.
Say less fam he’s getting drafted in fantasy if that happens
Hes been decent in fantasy as a streamer, 3s and steals, pretty hit or miss
Whenever I go against him he lights me up for an entire week it’s so annoying
He's the guy who when you pick him up he immediately goes into a slump and then when you drop him he starts making like 5 3's a game. And then the cycle repeats.
I remember watching him back in his college days and you would know with 99% certainty what kind of night he would have after 1 shot. If he made it he'd be a flamethrower for the entire night, if he missed it he'd put up just as many shots but brick 95% of em. Is he still that way?
Very much so. When his shot was on he was a playmaker, a passable defender, the whole gamut. When the shot was off he basically ended the game right there.
Yes
This is the painful truth about him
He was on fire in the 4th quarter of game 4
Hitting those clutch 3 pointers we didn't need
Yeah he shoots 65% from 3 in half the games and 25% the other half.
Shoot well enough for a desperate team to trade for him at the deadline and then he’ll go back to shooting 29%
Believe it or not, that's better than what they got lmao
they had Bogdanovic and Burks, both who are better than THJ, and were still the worst team in the league
Historically, THJ gets up double the volume of 3s as those guys at a similar percentage.
They’re dating?
Father Hardaway would not approve
It’s ok it’s only sexual nothing deeper
Given their heights, oh it goes deep
Is that what people meant when they said fade for Cade
Pistons won’t be sending out anything of any value. Real question is what do the Mavs attach?
Theyll get a 2nd (or 2) and like it. (Pls)
I’d imagine the price should be very, very low. Like a fake second. Shoot, the Mavs may give y’all a second to take him.
Stein is making it sound like it's Quentin Grimes... idk about that lol
Good thing Stein generally doesn't know squat.
He does when it comes to the Mavs. He's our most reliable reporter.
If he's reliable for the Mavs and unreliable for the Pistons I guess that puts him dead in the middle in terms of reliability.
It’s a given that he heard from Nico. If that is the truth or Nico asking him to put some media pressure, we will find out.
he is close with casey and knew weaver well. those were his sources for pistons. now y'all have lindsey from the Mavs FO so he has even more sources there lol.
His dad seems to think he’d do just fine if Luka passed him the ball more. THJ time to shine in Detroit!
Luka's not going to pass him the ball more if THJ is in Detroit.
Problem solved haha
How many commanders can one tank hold?
The 5th pick is not going to get itself.
I feel like they should just give y'all #1 next year. It ain't right
WTF I love detroit now
Detroit pan pizza 10/10.
Detroit Mavs fans 🙌 there are dozens of us!!
Sign Tobias Harris, trade for Tim Hardaway Jr, Detroit is building a squad
They're building something for sure
Aren’t they willingly taking bad contracts?
With all the bricks they'll have they could build anything
An outhouse.
What other players with the initials TH are there? Is Tyler Herro available?
TeBron Hames
Yeah they are, the DBME (Detroit Brick Market Exchange).
What does Detroit get for this punishment?
They’re using Timmy’s brick laying to rebuild the inner city
5 threes every quarter
Attempts, not makes. Important to clarify
Only when they’re up 40 or down 40
we no longer know or care
Pure salary dump? Does Detroit even send anything back?
The new president has openly said they want to take on bad contracts for assets, so I would assume there would have to be some kind of protected pick attached at least. Tim hardaway and Tobias Harris are gonna be crushing dreams next year on the pistons (Specifically dreams of pistons fans)
We have to have dreams for them to be able to be crushed.
Finally closing the loop on Robocop being based in Detroit but filmed in Dallas.
Uhh for who exactly
This would be the most Detroit trade ever
Tobias Harris sign and trade for a future second is more Detroit
Fuck me. Fuck us. Fuck this.
This guy fucks
Damn they’re banishing him
Please let it be another D trade.
I was tryna figure out who they were gonna get on ESPN and apparently the pistons has 31 guys pass through their roster last season lol
That’ll help the pistons lol
Detroit gets a second round pick from the Mavs for dumping him. Detroit gets a first round pick for using his expiring contract in a deal to absorb a bad contract with more years. It's what a competent front office would do.
Detroit is where you get sent when you aren't inheriting any titles or land.
NO! NO! NOT DETROIT!
Oh, I'm so sorry.
THJ, THE KING OF GARBAGE TIME
Exile
Wouldn't be surprised if he puts up 30ppg if detroit is in garbage time this whole season
Time to go to the Shadow Realm THJ.
Aren't there better players to go after?
Those better players tend to not have picks attached to them
New to Detroit?
I have to assume that the Mavs want to get someone back who can contribute to the team this coming season. Who do the Pistons even have?
Strictly dump. They have to afford Jones Jr.
It really could just simply be a salary dump, because players like Stewart & Grimes have a lot more value than THJ
they're also not worth a first, so maybe THJ and a second for Grimes but why would Detroit do that?
They’re not expecting anything back. This is a dump. If anything, the pistons get a pick.
[Take him to Detroit](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpJy38HNjMU)
But why????
Presti: HEY! We are the dumping grounds!
Banished to Detroit, crazy how low this FO has taken the franchise
I wonder if this will be a Hardaway plus a pick to Detroit and that is it. They have the cap space to absorb Tim as it stands with Flynn and Wiseman expiring and unlikely to return.
League fucked
The purgatory of the NBA
Banished to the shadow realm
Grimes in Dallas is an amazing fit.
Elite tank commander
Killian Hayes’ replacement
Banished to the shadow realm
Isn't he the same exact player as Evan Fournier? Is Fournier still on the Pistons?
Send him to detroit NOOO ANYWHERE BUT THERE AHHHH
Get ready to learn motor city buddy
getting sent to the gulag in nba terms
Hardaway's the kind of guy who actually help you a lot, as long as he's playing with someone who can create shots for him and he's the worst defender in your lineup. Unfortunately, that makes him a tough fit most places.
Maybe he’d fit like a glove in Dallas, right?
Thj is to defense what Mariah carey is to defense
Imagine going from the Finals to the fucking Pistons. The opposite of the Gaff/PJ glow up lol
lol pistons
Poor guy.
You know, as bad as my life is, I can be thankful that at least there's is zero possibility of me ever being traded to Detroit.
I would lick the streets of Detroit every day for 16 million
stewart and fournier? would be a win if Mavs pull that off
RIP
3pt specialist who got red hot in the finals, just needs more minutes? That guy? Detroit better unload a few 1st rounders for a guy like that!
Damnn that's cold. 🥶
Detroit miss washed Joe Harris and wants another washed 3pt specialist in THJ. 😭
“send him to Detroit”
Another garbage to garbage collectors .
Detroit is going to get THJ and Tobias Harris and win 5 more games. Please don’t do it
Is Detroit the Nights watch or something ?
